hey pipz we are Alex and Mikayla from Evelyn way and these is our review of the James Peru space roofing [Music] creepy alright let's go for it toward the tent this is a ladder that we actually built ourselves because the James burrowed one it connects here into these two hooks and we prefer to have one that was permanently fixed on the car so that's why I built this one [Music] all right this is our tent for those of you who don't know we've been on the roof all time for two years traveling the world and for the first 15 months of the trip we actually had one of those old clam style softshell we've got tents and we weren't really using it a lot so we decided to change to James brews you can see the video of why we decided to change here explains up in with you guys so now that we've had and used it for nine months we just wanted to share with you guys what a real impressions are so the first thing I think we have to talk about is how long it takes to set up and to pack away this was the main reason we change to James brewed the previous tent we had took way too long and we just didn't use it as much as we wanted to and the James burrows promised to be a lot easier and just very quick to do it any days oh it's so much began because of that way using it like almost every night really literally I think it takes us less than a minute to set up we use it so much more often because of that the only downside is that don't we would say if you can actually pop it up just with one person because our fan is so cool if you think it tricky to reach up there so both of us have to do it together we can do in one person there's just a lot of where they can we swear a bit when we do that it's so quick and easy to set up there literally sometimes we just open the tent so that the solar panels are facing places the sudden we get more charge yeah and as we store some stuff in it we can just pop it open and get what is in there take it out and pack it away again we would never do that with the previous tent with head quality wise it's an expensive item so you truly expected to be super high quality and in that sense it is I think it met our expectations and even exceeded it in some way yeah these are the two posts that keep the tent up they're really easy to put into place once you put the tent up it's all made a really good quality material you can actually really feel the quality of all the zips the material is really thick and strong we've had this tent for what nine months now I think and no holes no nothing but a lot of ventilation in here no window behind me this one and this one so therefore windows in total and one two we've got a pretty good view today to hug the ocean here in Mexico not too bad and a really nice breeze coming through and that's probably one of the most important things that we wanted in a rooftop tent was to have that ventilation size-wise we do you have these Mahler version I am 178 centimeters which is pretty like 5 foot 10 so I'm not the biggest man on earth I'm pretty like medium size and I just fit in michaela has no problems it is comfortable back in feel my feet touching one end sometimes so it's not incredibly massive they do make an extra-large version which is much longer we decide to have this Mahler one just because we weight punches and [Music] having said that I'm Headroom wise it's super massive it's the tallest one we've seen we can see it up quite comfortably and have about these much on top of our heads at one side it does go down towards the back so it's like a big wedge shape we actually really like it because your feet stay at the end it's shorter you've got all this space here as you can see this is the short end of the tent I can still sit here I'm not the tallest person but pretty comfortably just hitting room through so it's not too small speaking of comfort and the mattress is I don't think it's really thick but it is actually really nice to sleep on so even though the mattress is what only a good 10 centimetres thick you can't feel through it when you're sleeping or when you're sitting on it like this the doors are a really unique design you've got a window which just function as a normal window you've got this really good quality mesh here on the windows so you're not gonna get eaten or loose but then the doors you unzip the top and then at the bottom is actually velcro and it kind of works really well because it's like a quick open and quick close so you can hear the velcro at the bottom kind of just self closes however you'd kind of it kind of feels like oh it's not really gonna be waterproof we've been through some really serious storms we are almost in Central America now and it rains quite a lot here there's never been any water inside the tent even though we've drilled 12 holes to the top to put solar panels on we made sure they were really well sealed and it actually is pretty perfect there's no overhangs so that's one downside I guess it if you want to get out of the tent to go to the toilet or to grab something from the car you're not going to be sheltered but from the rain but we haven't really found that that's being a problem for us and we like it because it is so streamlined you don't need to have that you know extra effort of putting up that verandas area or you don't have the wind noise so we actually prefer it if it withstands 100-kilometer winds and we've done we've actually tested it out we were in a storm back in Baja next week and the wings boat really really really strong to the point was scary because the whole cowl was shaking and the tent was just super sturdy like that sounds when the pushing all of the material the James brood doesn't have as much wing noise the other good thing about it being wind resistant is that we can actually drive we've the rooftop tent open on top of your car and we've done that as well and that's really good because if you want to just pack up and move 100 meters down the road or a climate down down the road you don't have to pack everything away absolutely no problem is you don't even notice the 10th up while you're driving now one of the other really cool features that we absolutely love about this rooftop tent is the solar charged vent so this thing has a little solar panel at the top and it basically runs we've kind of leave it running all the time even when the tents packed down we can leave it on and it will just make sure that the air circulates in here it gets pulled out and make sure it doesn't get too humid and mold doesn't start growing inside the tent while it's closed we've got storage here so you've got this really nice net which we put pillows we put pajamas you can carry books we've put a whole lot of different things in here there's also some more storage at the footing at the feet which I'll show you in a second and then the last thing that's up here is this light here so you can have it suck in place oh we can pull it out and use it like a torch but the one thing we don't like about the tent in general is that this light isn't solar powered so every couple of weeks or however often you use the tent you're going to have to take it downstairs plug it into your cigarette lighter and recharge it again it wouldn't really be that difficult for them to have like a vent solar powered vent that has a light in it as well and we think that that's one of the things that could really make this tent even better and imagine if they put a USB charger in there as well you could have your phone charging put it into here and you'd be set now let's talk about the installation process for us it was so simple basically all you need is a couple or three roof racks and then the James Pro 10 actually comes with tracks on the underneath and you just bolt u-shaped boats like these and then you slide the 10 right on you can just pull them through all right down this end you can see all of our blankets there's more storage here it's really good just to put it well that's the charger for the for the arm of the light and there's quite a lot of storage yeah which is good we leave all our bedding up here so we've got this dinner we've got a blanket sheets and then underneath the mattress we also have two sleeping bags but the great thing is that we are able to close the tent and all of this bedding stays up here the tent itself weighs about 65 kilos if I'm not wrong so it is a fair bit of weight to put on top of your car and many people wonder if it's gonna affect the handling it does a little bit especially with our van because it's quite narrow and has soft suspensions but it doesn't change it completely and we don't feel like it's made it unsafe in any way even when full driving I personally think it looks great on top of the car yeah it's really sleek slim it's pretty aerodynamic we haven't felt much of a difference in our fuel consumption either we actually just loved it yeah the whole tent overall looks really really everything's good quality all the finishings really sturdy we haven't lost anything over the nine months and we've been using it pretty much full-time sometimes we'll sleep downstairs in the band but a lot of the time we're sleeping up here and the roof it's nice it's got a bit of padding so if you bump your head you're not gonna hurt yourself it's got that bit of insulation as well and overall just looks really nice to be honest like out of a 10 I would give the James Reed nine and a half but I need downsides that I don't like about the tent would be the ladder the original ladder that it came with the reason why I didn't like it is because we would have to be zipping it inside the 10 closing it and then when we open it we would have to unzip it pull the ladder out and then latch it on it would be sweet if they had like a leather that went under the tent and you could just like slide off and put onto the ground without having to undo so what we decided to do was create our own ladder and have it permanently attached to the van just because we're using it account so much but I guess if you're only taking it for like weekend trips and that that wouldn't be a problem the only other thing that we don't like about it is the light that's inside it's not a big deal but apart from that it's an amazing 10 people always ask us so if you were gonna do it again would you buy a James pari 10 for me it is an expensive investment but hands down yes I definitely would buy it again so you ask yourself first so you actually need a rooftop antenna can you get by with a 10 that just goes onto the ground boy sleeping the car if you don't need it it's a lot of money and if you can save that money just save it now for those who you actually need a roof cockpit yes yeah hands down I would buy a hardshell roof but then he's way better than those ones that open like these just because those things are so difficult to put up and peck away that you're not use them as often anything and they cost a lot of money also so in the end it cost us more money buying that and then having to sell it to then get a James Murray so you do need a roof top then we call recommended announcement just by James brood didn't get those things that they're just a big hustling yeah that's it maybe guys liked the review please give us a thumbs up for this video
