[Music] it's camping season so let's get ready [Music] i'm mostly using three-quarter inch pine plywood for this project [Music] my shop and my table saw are both too small for a full-size sheet of plywood so i usually cut it on the ground first with my track saw this is definitely a design as you go and figure out the details later type of project [Music] once i got some parts cut i started drilling some pocket holes [Music] a lot of pocket holes [Music] and then it was assembly time [Music] i used my cnc to make a router template that i could use to cut some holes in the frame for weight reduction [Music] here i'm cutting out a section where the cooler is going to sit and i'm just clamping on some scraps of plywood to make a simple and quick router template for those cuts you can also make these kind of cuts with a jigsaw but i actually think it comes out cleaner with a router [Music] i'm using a template router bit with the bearing on top that rides along those scraps of plywood [Music] hopefully this will redeem at least some gas mileage [Music] so more plywood and more pocket holes [Music] so [Music] these 60 inch full extension drawer slides hold up to 500 pounds and lock in both the in and out positions i'll post links to all the products that i used in the video description below [Music] the two middle slides are attached to either side of the same piece of plywood so in one of the slides i had to drill some extra holes so that the screws wouldn't run into each other [Music] instead of drilling holes in the truck bed to bolt the drawer unit in i'm exposing these u-bolts to use as attachment points and this is the chain i'm going to use to secure the entire thing [Music] before i installed it i decided to make a few last minute changes [Music] and i'm using this aluminum angle iron to make some custom low profile drawer [Music] slides this long skinny drawer will go the entire length of the truck bed and take advantage of some otherwise wasted space as you know i have a tiny shop and i've packed a lot of tools in here over the years so i have to be really picky about what i bring in here due to the limited space but i've wanted to incorporate a glowforge laser into my workflow for a long time now so i reached out and they were kind enough to send me a glowforge pro to test out and the thing is incredible my glowforge was delivered when i was about halfway through building this project for my truck but i've already played around with it enough to know that it's a complete game changer in the short amount of time i've owned it i've done everything from utility projects to kids projects and even fine woodworking and laser-cut marquetry it's a fun easy to use versatile and extremely powerful tool my glowforge pro can cut wood up to a quarter inch thick it does engravings it cuts plastics and leather and all kinds of other materials i'm not going to go into too much detail now because you'll actually see it in use in my next few videos but if you've been thinking about adding a glowforge laser to your shop this is the perfect time because i've got a link that will save you up to 500 bucks and it'll support my channel too seriously go use that link today it'll save you up to 500 bucks get yourself a glowforge you won't regret it i made templates out of some cardboard scraps to get a tight fit on the top platform [Music] [Music] these j-bolts will hook onto the chains and when i tighten them down they'll secure the entire unit [Music] you can't see it but i'm connecting the chain to that j-bolt under the plywood after screwing the plywood down to the frame i tightened the nut on the j-bolt and then cut off the excess [Music] it was a lot easier to install this platform in sections rather than one large piece for the odd cuts in these custom drawers i'm using the same method as before using scraps of plywood to make a router template this time i'm just using double stick tape to secure them here's that template bit i was talking about earlier [Music] [Music] i decided to cover my kitchen surfaces with this aluminum sheeting [Music] and i'm using spray adhesive to attach it [Music] a router bit made for laminate countertops works fine to trim the aluminum and because of how easily this stuff was scratching in the first five minutes i decided to go over it with my sander to give it a pre-scratched look [Music] with all the parts done for the first drawer it was assembly time again i cut out a hole for the burner insert and as a reminder i'll put links in the description below for all the products that i used i'm using this aluminum that i found at my local hardware store to cover all the corners and edges and once the first drawer was installed it was time to build the second one [Music] i'm using these sheets of rubber diamond plate to cover all the surfaces [Music] this is going to be that long skinny drawer i mentioned earlier all of the drawer faces get tacked on with a brad nailer and then secured with screws later these two drawers are going to become the cutting board and the kitchen sink the corner has to be cut out of this pantry lid and secured separately because otherwise when it pops up on these hinges it would hit the truck shell i used contact cement to secure more of the rubber diamond plate to the drawer fronts [Applause] [Music] and use more aluminum for the corners and edges this project got more and more fun as i added all of the finishing touches after a long search i found the perfect low profile faucet [Music] i used this 17-inch blackstone griddle for all of our camping trips last year and i actually like it so much that i designed this entire project around its [Music] dimensions next it was time to figure out all of the gas and water plumbing [Music] i wanted everything to be pre-plumbed so it would all just work with one connection at the campground [Music] it may not be beautiful from the inside but it works great i'm using four inch pvc to build my water tank [Music] after a few prototypes i figured out the perfect shape for some plywood brackets to mount the water tank [Music] [Applause] [Music] so after i assembled the water tank i spray painted it black i figured this would help keep the water warmer and also hide it a bit in the truck then i set up to pressure test the tank after a little research online it seems like 30 to 40 psi is plenty to make your water run smoothly so i pumped it up to about 50 psi and held it there for a few hours no leaks [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] i found this flush mounted drawer pole at a local boating store it won't stick out and bind when the main drawer closes when i made the plywood brackets for my water tank i also built in this section for my propane tank i had to make one more little plywood mount for the fire extinguisher bracket for some overhead lighting at night i found this rechargeable led light bar that secures to a magnetic base and it comes with multiple bases [Music] [Music] it's camping time the cooler is always easy to access without pulling anything out [Music] once you get to camp the main storage compartment is behind the cooler [Music] the cooler slides in and out from the side we're a family of four so we sleep in one of these large family tents and i picked up this cover to keep sun or rain off the cooking area this became the zombie apocalypse drawer due to popular demand from my instagram followers and behind that is storage for hand [Music] tools this little drawer is dedicated to the water hose and here is the kitchen [Music] the propane connects with a simple click and so does the water [Music] believe it or not i can cook on this propane tank for about a week [Music] i've got everything i need but the never mind [Music] the water tank carries about eight gallons and it'll run like this for over 10 minutes i've got a collapsible bucket to collect the waste water so it's easy to dump and the sink has a push button drain this cup holder is actually for the soap dispenser the water hose doubles as a portable shower and you can even use it without pulling out any of the drawers it's great for washing off kids with sandy feet or even the dog to repressurize the water tank i just hook up this portable air compressor and set it to 30 psi i found this little bracket online to hang a trash bag [Music] and here's the silverware drawer the pantry lid pops up like this so you don't lose any countertop space this is the cutting board and it lifts out for cleaning or for taking to your picnic table and here's the knife storage but i also added a magnetic knife holder so i'd have a safe place to put them while i was cooking [Music] i mounted a stainless opener for the camping juice a magnet to catch the cap and a throne for the bottle [Music] a huge thank you to all of my supporters on patreon for encouraging me to go out into the shop late at night after the kids are in bed and produce these videos if you want to join the club get access to my sketchup files t-shirts stickers and other merchandise or see your name at the end of these videos just find me
