Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Jack Kornfield is amazing. He was a Theravadan monk in Thailand about the time I was living there myself.
His teacher (Ajahn Chah) asked him what he would do when he came back to the U.S. He told him he'd teach Buddhism. Ajahn Chah replied "okay.. but maybe call it something else!" (..a true story and very cool)
Kornfield, when he came back, he went to a spa-salon to get himself done over a bit. He was in his robes. He fell asleep and woke up to see strange women in smocks and hair curlers standing over him, they were whispering how odd he looked in his robes. None of them understood how odd they looked to Kornfield in their curlers and salon-spa robes! (a natural logical flip-flop)
I really like his talks, he's quite an original, integrating all kinds of Buddhist ideas like zen principles with Christian dogma and Hindu mythology and such into his teachings. He's really a brilliant mind. The real deal! Anyone can learn much just by really listening to him.
The mediation center he founded isn't too far from here, three counties to the north and about 70 miles as the crow flies.
I googled who this was, he was also taught by Ajahn Chah.
Is there anybody that hasn't been taught by Ajahn Chah? :)
I would suggest that Jack Kornfield is how westerners know who Ajahn Chah was!!
