so this is miller rock's uh level eight obstacle there's really no bypass to it i'm gonna officially name it the devil's cleavage oh i don't like that you're right that is oh you can't see this from my perspective yeah but there's my view is just down into a river like a thousand feet below you're close to the edge of that that wasn't planned yeah don't don't do that you don't have a winch on the front we really shouldn't even be able to be up here right now [Music] so today we've got a super fun video because next to me is our brand new ford bronco of course the sasquatch model on 35 but one question we've gotten a lot is how does it compare to a wrangler but not just a normal wrangler a modified wrangler so we didn't bring one modified wrangler we actually have two today a jk and a jl the current model wrangler and this one is going to be a really apples to apples test because this one is on 35 inch tall tires just like the bronco they both have locking discs they both have sway bar disconnects and in this video we're gonna get them into some terrain and see how they perform so we're gonna tackle a trail called miller rock today onyx off-road rates at an eight out of ten they say we've got some cool ledges some cool obstacles we're gonna have to climb in all these rigs really excited to see how these vehicles perform and if you wanna check out the coolest trails in your area be sure to check out onyx offroad [Music] you know tommy i'm uh really excited to see how this will compare the jeep i am too we've got you know pretty much apples to apples 35 versus 35s and looks like we're coming up to our very first obstacle yeah looks like we got a little bit of a um actually very tight turn you're going to try using the turn assist i have very well might so we've got this function or if i click this button it's going to lock up the inside tire and we should be able to make this turn tighter all right let's see we'll compare it to how it does with first the jk and then the jl so it's a pretty tight little turn and there's a little bit of articulation here too so let's give it a try a little bit of articulation fine bronco that was easy yep so i turned on my rear locker there and we climbed right on up no difficulty you know that uh the jeep behind us is also orange yeah this is not orange one would say that they're very different shades of orange one would say the ford is not orange at all i would say it's yellow even though it's called cyber orange so this orange jeep belongs to our friend justin and it's got a two inch mopar lift and under the hood is the smallest engine here it's the 2-liter turbo now a 2014 has a three and a half inch well frankenstein lift under the hood is the venerable penistar 3.6 liter the biggest engine here with the least horsepower and of course the bronco is well stock it's got the 2.7 liter twin turbo and the sasquatch package from ford so the question is can a stock ford bronco keep up with two lifted jeeps let's find out [Music] and if you stay more driver a little bit more flat coming off it yeah if you put tires in the hole yeah um it makes things a little more fun climbing up all right so this is the first obstacle there we call it the gatekeeper or like these guys suggested tommy what are you doing you like that sure grabbing camera that's what i'm doing no let's call it the washed out all right sounds good and the idea is if you put your wheel down there you're gonna test your articulation yep and if you don't put it down there then you're gonna not test your articulation so what's your plan i don't know let's see what these guys all right yeah we'll see what uh we'll see what uh chris does and then we'll follow his line go from there yep yeah he made that look easy but uh justin what does he air down to like five what what is up with that eight or nine i figured yeah that's what happens when you got real beat locks we don't have it aired down to eight uh so it'll make a little bit harder but we are aired down probably more like 25 which is what we do without b locks one annoying thing about the bronco is every time you open the doors the mirrors unfold because the doors push them open this is the first edition with the sasquatch package i'm gonna go ahead disconnect the front sway bar let's just go ahead and lock it all up right away unlike the jeep the bronco does have an independent front suspension and we shall see how that has an impact as we start to climb so far so good though front sway bar is disconnected parking sensors are going wild loads and loads of grip though we clearly just i mean waltzed up that hill that was a pretty serious little obstacle and the four just went whoosh yeah what what justin what do you think i mean so you got two solid axle vehicles right yours and chris's and uh the bronco like you said didn't even float a tire i mean you just slowed a tire i i pointed i think he saw me i pointed to him to turn a little bit to the left to put the passenger's tire in that deep hole and i didn't even see a single tire coming off the ground it's pretty impressive for you know independent uh suspension yeah people are always yeah the jeep's got solid axles uh but you know i gotta agree with the toyota guys it works it didn't float a tire all right here comes justin in his uh jl uh the most modern jeep here let's see how that does tommy as a wrangler owner what does it do to you to see a wrangler just crawl up that no problem it's like peanut butter and jelly you can see the solid front axle flex over the hole and through the rocks although you have to say the ford didn't pick up any tires so even though it's an independent front suspension when you unlock that sway bar does pretty well yeah full disclosure here guys while the bronco belongs to tfl his personal vehicle is of course a wrangler yeah but it's not yellow so makes the bronco better because it's yellow i'm gonna say tommy i'm impressed by this bronco especially considering that really both these guys have built jeeps right and this is the way it came from the factory bone stock now someone in the comment section is going to say well ford modified it from the factory because that's we'll say that makes zero sense to me this is a factory-equipped model as you buy it off the showroom floor you know i got a feeling that like ford basically benchmarked the wrangler right they said like you know the wrangler has this approach departure and break over but we're going to go just a little bit better just a little bit better yeah i mean it really is a very capable vehicle out of the box as is of course the jeep wrangler we could take the top off all three of these vehicles the doors come off all three of these vehicles as well but the ford has an advantage there because the mirrors are mounted to the body and not to the doors that's true so you don't need to get stick on mirrors to be road legal however the jeep does have a foldable windshield not that i've ever seen anyone hold a windshield now of course you can get both of these in both hard and soft top configurations but the difference of course is this one is only available in turbocharged engines you can get the 2.3 and the 2.7 twin turbo the jeep currently is available on a number of engines but some of those are diesels some of those are n a some of those are v8s right so lots of lots of engines yeah but the one that obviously people love is a 392 right and i think we have a 392 because oh bronco i mean competition is making both these vehicles better i'm very impressed uh i kind of feel like you know a wolf among the chickens well don't don't don't count your chickens too soon dad because we've got some pretty gnarly stuff coming up and maybe then we'll start to see the differentiation between the wrangler and the forts [Music] all right chris you've done a lot of uh work to your jk what is that black force box on top of the engine so this is my fancy dancy burrito maker it's a little manifold oven that i picked up a couple years ago and i use it all the time breakfast burritos at the trailhead perfect all right and tell me about the fact that you run this thing year round in colorado nevertheless with your doors off how do you stay warm sure absolutely so if you go around here i took out a couple of my little vents here and stuck in some shop vac hoses and i run them up my coat to keep me nice and toasty ever consider running them up your pant legs yep [Music] so tell me we're about to get to the gnarlier stuff here and this will be a good test to see how the uh bronco compares to the wrangler i think you're right dad look at this yeah it's a little uh it's a little sketchy here can you watch that side yep yep you're good you're about to go over do you want me to go spot you hey how you doing they did it without spotting it but of course they've been here a number of times there you go i mean you're going down the hill just make sure you don't go slamming into that rock wall yeah you're good pretty good yeah you're good there's a yeah a little bit driver there you go nice you're fine you got two feet two feet nice you can really feel the suspension working oh yeah right on the limit of independence for stitching but it's working this way bar disconnected yeah that's great it's taking it nice and easy take it easy [Music] don't roller tommy my butle meter is always a little bit you joke but that would be a bad way to end this day rolling it down that would be a bad way all right but we made it down yeah no worries the other issue to that is that this is a 63 000 vehicle and it's really the company's 63 000 vehicle so i want to be very ginger with it and we do want to make more videos with it and where would you find another one oh my god exactly where would you find another one you wouldn't you just wouldn't so yeah we don't want to crash it hey you were saying that basically uh justin built uh the extreme recon wrangler yeah he did so there's a new model um the jeep just released which is a factory wrangler on 35s and a slight lift that is what justin basically has right behind us right yeah it's a stock wrangler on 35s with a two inch lift mopar lift even so it's pretty much an extreme recon you know the other thing i like about this bronco tommy is this front camera is enormous look at that yeah it's that big 12 inch screen it looks really nice you know a lot of these cameras are basically potato cams right the resolution is really poor but this one look at that i usually don't like the front-facing camera but on a vehicle that's 63 grand and it's kind of this big and slap-sided it's nice to have you know it's kind of like you can live the metaverse while you're actually wheeling all right so this is the hard obstacle justin so tell me about it tell me what makes it so difficult yeah so this is miller rock's uh level eight obstacle there's really no bypass to it so you have no choice but to come down this so the whole goal on this one is you just straddle the the slot in the rocks right here uh and drive right down it and off you go if you get your tire placement off a little bit you can kind of pop tires up and and put on a bit of a show but can you roll it uh yes you can um i i know that it has happened a few times and it's a long ways down i see that so does this obstacle have a name i don't think so i'm gonna officially name it the devil's cleavage chris will go down first show off the line and then justin who's done this before is gonna spot tommy and i'm gonna be nice and safe watching it from afar all right now you know the line tommy oh yeah i'm gonna keep your driver's side tire a little bit closer to this okay just so that way we don't have the chance of like bottoming out and falling into this hole sounds good to me so yeah we'll just keep you keep it more dry come on forward filling me down here buddy [Music] floating the tire that's our line right there watching justin carefully or did lift up a tire a little bit there nice and slow okay start turning driver just a bit probably can't see me looking good a little more driver there you go [Music] [Applause] there you go should come straight down oh this good played a little there but here we go feeling pretty good about it nice work justin oh boy i don't like that right that is awesome you can't see this from my perspective yeah sure but you're looking straight down down the gum barrel of a cliff yeah there's my view is just down into a river like a thousand feet below it's a little unnerving isn't it it is a little unnerving six inches from the bottom don't pound on the brake and you won't pop over just inch it forward there we go okay you want to start going passenger just fit all right well a little poo shot out there but it turned out to be okay the ford bronco did that now i did lift the tire too which i don't believe chris did in the red jeep but um we did make it down and we're in one piece now we just got to make it back up which is of course going to be harder congratulations nice work good work yeah yeah i think we're impressing these uh wrangler guys dude slowly but surely or at least you are i'm not i'm just i'm just you know you're like hold my beer so two down one to go here comes justin in what we're calling the extreme recon for all of you cheap boys and gals out there wrangler so that's where things got really unnerving right there so there was a difference there on the way down i picked up the right rear pretty significantly justin took the same line in the wrangler and kept tires on the ground at all times so we did see a difference in articulation you know what i find uh interesting tommy yeah what's that then um we just came back from sema and everybody's doing these incredible bronco lifts uh-huh but very few people actually put them in harm's way like we're doing you know yeah that's a great point that i uh i do think that we are in relatively the minority here yeah yeah and this is what we love to do real world testing and actually show you what the vehicle is capable of not just you know a beauty contest right yep and i am sweating bullets doing that but i think it's worth it i think it's cool to see how the bronco performed on the rocks out in the real world and you know as your dad i'm so proud of you tommy oh thank you dad you know it's so really nice to see you take on these you know relatively difficult obstacles maybe not even relatively just let's call it difficult obstacles uh and do it you know with something that's not tried or true right a lot of jeeps have gone over this sure this is i would bet that this is the first time you know that the bronco has gone up certainly one of the first dead yeah i think that's true all right you're nervous yes but we'll uh we'll make it happen all right one way or another all right so there's one more obstacle left and that's once again the devil's cleavage but this time we're going up instead of down so let me ask you gentlemen what do you think of the bronco i am actually i'm pretty impressed with how uh how that handle was coming down and that tire was only off the ground foot in half but yours was up off the ground yeah nothing yeah so it was yours so there is more articulation in both of these just i mean just a little but still like i'm assuming you had the sway bar disconnected yeah for sure yeah so i'm actually i'm really impressed about what that did how about you chris honestly it's an eight out of ten obstacle yeah and you went down it you didn't rub tommy's still alive it's a contender on the trail because if you can do that there's you can basically hit every trail in colorado all right so i was talking with uh with my man here and uh he said that he actually has one order i do i do november 5th i placed an order so if you get one what are you gonna do to it are you are you gonna go like you know 37's no probably not um you can pop these off yeah you can take them off yeah i'll probably leave it as is and run it for the first you know a couple years because i want to just i mean just like that other than the fact that that's dealer modified i haven't done anything to it so i want to just run it for a while and see what it does compared to probably what it could do with aftermarket yeah yeah it's it's early days right i'm not sure there's a lot of aftermarket support you'll catch up it's coming yeah all right so we're gonna go up the devil's cleavage and chris has graciously volunteered to make it harder than it needs to be so let's watch you're close to the edge of that [Music] [Music] so we're so that wasn't planned yeah yeah you know this was not what we were expecting we're going to try to do like like a bucking bra well wrangler but instead uh we slipped off the edge and now we get the winch maybe i will do that so i have to go don't don't do that you don't have a winch on the front [Music] you can go around this you can go you can go around this one yeah that's pretty big yeah that's pretty big so you got a recovery to that chip here uh we recovered a couple of jeeps uh that drove up the other side and ended up uh sliding off the edge of the road in the snow the snow tends to stay on that shady spot uh quite a bit uh clear into june like we should really shouldn't even be able to be up here right now yeah it's crazy it's almost december we're you know one day out of december and we're still wheeling up here it's nuts all right let's try this you know that's why you bring buddies right buddies with wing straps and winches and experience and good shoes and food get food we have food guys got chicken i got three days where the food in the back there you go we got food so what happened was that's super soft and he slipped and got hung up on the passenger side shock mount uh and then the wheels just spin and you need a winch [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so you're probably going to have a front tire off the ground over here yep but it'll make contact as soon as your butt starts climbing up cool so there's really no it's not impossible to go over because we'll give it a go yeah steady pedal and just stay with it and just kind of just let it go and if you can lock that thing in the first gear just override it and put it first and so let it roll up if i wouldn't have gone down there my butt would have been over far enough that it would have popped it would have lifted all right so i'm gonna not slip off the log like chris did but i'm gonna lock everything up and put the goat mode into rock let's go into first gear on the transmission and then we'll just try to crawl it all right here comes tommy got chris spotting me right now he's gonna put me as close to the edge as possible without going off like he did crawl it nice and slowly come on bronco oh okay parking sensor freaking out on the rail look at that though these guys are good i mean the broncos good too but chris and uh chris and justin are the real mvps here heck yeah guys thank you appreciate that that was really good so there was like a scarier line that i could have taken but i was not willing to do that because it's my first time out here and a 63 000 bronco that's not mine but these guys really are pretty amazing and we were able to get up here only damage scratch the bolt that is a good day on the trail [Applause] so [Applause] [Applause] nicely done so he took a slightly different line you can see that was the wheel lift line that they were mentioning earlier today super cool beautiful driving chris you were the spotter through there what did you notice so i spotted them both through the exact same line and both on the bronco and the jl whenever the they lifted a tire they lifted the exact same tire when the bronco lifted the front so did the jail same line i'm gonna show off to justin here my disconnectable front sway bar that i can do under load all right check this out oh yes disconnected under load see if we can clear this rear diff it's gonna be interesting keep coming straight for a little bit longer it'll feel kind of weird but okay now come passenger hard passenger yep there you go every time i drive a bronco i'm like oh this is gonna be hard and then it just isn't a little different than down up is always a little different than down i like that turn off the parking sensors i wish the parking sensors would remain off between key cycles when you're in four low i think that'd be cool this thing is really good off-road does feel like you're driving a modified vehicle even though you're not pretty cool stuff ford you did a good job with this bronco and now look lockers off don't have to wait for them to stop flashing don't have to wait for them to disengage they're just off [Music] [Music] all right tommy uh here's how i would put it in football terms all right no no i'm not gonna understand it well these guys will and these guys both okay so to me uh the wrangler is more like the wide receiver naturally athletic very talented and very good whereas the bronco is more like a linebacker a little bit more brutish a little bit more beefy and buff but nevertheless just as athletic and talented so really it's what you're into i mean do you want a little bit more agile jeep or do you want a little more brutish bronco the choice is yours well i'm far too nerdy to really fully grasp that analogy but i do really appreciate chris and justin for bringing the wranglers out here it's really cool to see especially the 35-inch tall tires on the jl versus the 35-inch tall tires on the bronco back-to-back pretty cool comparison i don't think we've seen um and it was a super fun day out here on the trail now we just got to get down and get some food how about if i go like chess like rook versus sure would that work i'm depressed that that is more that is more more more applicable for me thanks for watching remember check out tfl-studios.com for our podcasts our websites our news and of course our video reviews see you guys next time ciao
