all right guys we're back on this is x so after clear careful deliberation and discussion with the owner he wanted all new motor mounts in it we're going to be waiting on some things for a little while i'm waiting on the head bolts i haven't seen those yet the kit came in uh so what i did i got one liner out i was checking protrusion i had the liner clamped down i checked two holes i just was kind of curious to see if i was going to have to cut the counter boards and mid stops on it uh there i checked these two back holes that's where the head gasket blew um i pretty much had ten thousandths all the way around both liners which i'm happy with that uh some guys like to put them up there at 14 and now i like them at 14 000 so that's the high side of the specification a lot of guys that are running real high horsepower they like to delete them and put power programmers and pittsburgh power boxes and like that in there yeah it's it's nice to get up and up there to 14 thousandths but he's not doing that and he's not gonna do that i mean these guys these guys run them stock and leave them alone and that's why he's got 920 000 miles out of it so uh uh i'll show you a little bit more on the protrusion thing there once i get i'm pulling the engine out what i'm doing because the owner wants new motor mounts in it and he wants that rear structure let me get my light here what to do with that light oh what did i do with my light that's a really good question um oh there it is i was underneath the truck i'm trying to get the grease line off the throttle bearing but um anyway so what happens on these is x's is you know these to me it's like this terminology type thing my buddy kept telling me oh drop the line or drop the liner and i was just like we talked about dropped a liner let me tell you why i was wondering about that now we always we always used to say oh the protrusion's off and the head gasket blew but now the new terminology i guess is drop the liner um it's just i never heard it said that way but i've now that i've researched a little bit i guess everybody's saying it but anyway um what happens is on on even like on the on the older like even the e model cats this well this this isx has what they call a mid stop see the count the counter bore down here where the liner seats up and the shim sets is right here but like on an e model or an older big cam 400 or whatever it's up here on the top deck it's the counter boards here so uh what you usually do if you're really far out and say i mean i've seen some pretty bad ones to where i've had some that were really bad on the is x's to where they would you you would have like nine thousandths on one side of the liner and you would have 14 you'd have five thousandths and you you got to cut that and what you do is you put your you can put your cutter down here on this ledge now there's a secondary ledge and a primary ledge okay see this see this lip right here you don't want to cut that you really got to pay attention there's a shim that you can stick between there and your cutter that coming so as you stick down there and you run your cutter blade out to that to that edge before you start cutting anyways so uh so far we're not going to be cutting these hold on a second here comes this hornblende son of a so uh i checked these two holes and they were i think i had i think i had eleven thousands on one corner and i had ten all the way around it pretty much so they're pretty they're pretty even i'm not going to worry about that one thousandths the specification is 7 to 14 that cummins gives you so what you want to do is you want to put your liner in there you want to clean up your clean up your ledge real good clean this i like to clean this area out too real good and then leave the o-ring off the liner but put your shim on there and put your liner down in the hole and then clamp it down i clamp it i just got two big bolts with they're actually motor mount washers they're really thick heavy washers and i just i mean they come clear out to here on each side and i know some guys got this plate that goes clear across but i've used that for years i've never had any trouble and i just torque them down 100 foot pounds that way it senses that liner down in there real good and then you take your protrusion gauge and just go around it at four corners and just check your your liner height so you know if i was if i get one that's down around seven or eight thousands yeah i'm gonna cut it and once you cut it what i'm saying about cutting it you'll cut this ledge and then you'll put up you'll put a shim in there to get the height back up so anyway uh everything's loose here i'm just working on what what i'm going to do here is basically i'm gonna i've i'm gonna put the jack underneath it take all the belt housing bolts loose i'm taking the grease line off the throw out bearing right now and then i'll take the grease line loose off the throw out bearing and then uh pull the the the clutch linkage loose that way the clutch arm goes down and it'll go all the clutch the clutch fork will go over the top of the throt bearing once i pull it forward with my crane and i'll just pull it out of there i've got all the motor mount bolts loose but you can see see where the rear structure is leaking see how it's washed clean right there so it's just as easy just to pull it out of there especially when you've got the head off and all that stuff you've got you're three quarters of the way there anyway just pull the engine out and just do the rear structure if i was just doing a headget or if i was just doing a rear structure job and that was it i'd just leave the engine in there of course and i would just pull the transmission out and i'd just do it underneath on the ground i just pull uh you know you'd have to take the rear motor mounts loose and and block the engine up there somehow and then you'd pull the pull the clutch off and the fly will off and pull the bell housing out of it and then reseal it so anyway um yeah that's where we're at we've got all kinds of parts over here we've got um liners pistons rod bearings main bearings i've got a new egr cooler setting over there got cylinder heads in here new gasket seals the only thing they didn't get me no rear seal and front seal so i got a call got to call tom in the morning and say hey where are my where's my man got six new injectors got new upper and lower radiator hoses got front motor mount here's the new rear motor mounts this guy is definitely spending some money on this truck so anyway there's the six pistons out of it right there look what my i wanted to say something i know it doesn't mean much to some people but i thought it was pretty good my wife and i moved him with this i was so happy she made my life easier she made me not have to work as hard she was at an can you see that in the dark here she was at an auction that thing is brand spanking new she picked that up and at the bly auction for 100 bucks this pallet jack that thing's brand spanking new it still has the cardboard and the owner's manual taped to the handle on it there ain't no pain even worn off the forks on it i mean it's a pretty sweet deal yeah it works good i because those uh i'm pretty happy with that i don't know how many times that i've needed one of these things to move something around and man it'd be nice to have a pallet jack and move stuff around and those two pallets we unloaded them over here the other day where the hood setting and i moved them over here this morning when i took the hood off and just rolled them right over here so nice and easy oh man i had i got to give her a big hug and a kiss when i get home she sure made she sure made my life a lot easier i mean used to i'd have to either unpack the box or you know take a crane wrap straps around it or you know and i used to just take my forklift but as it's it's over here in a pile that i haven't had time to work on it it quit me a couple years ago and i haven't i haven't had time to work on it you know so it's it's always something like this one of these major major ordeals so anyways i'll quit yappering at ya uh let's get the grease line off the throat bearing get the clutch linkage loose and let's pull the engine out of here so let me see here they swing over yeah i'm pulling on it towards the truck there we go oh i know what's going on i bet that lower hose is holding me up i bet that lower hose is hitting now i do got to take that off but it's not hitting yet [Music] all right she's coming just gotta keep the clutch i can't tell if we're past the throw up bearing around or not oh i'm hitting on the rocket here see i gotta swing over there we go i see i was hitting on that front the mount see i'm pulling on it kind of at an angle which is not good she's coming so yeah that engine mount bracket get the crossmember there she's almost out of here now so oh oh now i'm getting over here like this radiator hose off there i should already done all right one more problem child out of the way the light make sure that pulling a wiring harness into or something here don't want to be doing that basically i left the cummins harness on it and then hooked everything off the oem oem plug off the ecm i think we're clear so okay well i've been waiting for the opportunity to use this engine stand uh buddy of mine work for a big fuel hauling outfit and call me one day says you want a engine stand for knee model cat i said sure he said it's nothing fancy but it just if you got one you're out of frame or something you might be able to or you just you know he said you might be able to use it i said yeah sure and i yeah i mean it really wouldn't i mean the guy could out of frame one once he got the crank in it he could set it on here you know but once you got set it on set it on here then he could do whatever he wanted i mean you could put the pan on and everything right here what i'm gonna do is i've got some plywood over there and lay plywood right here and just lay on the plywood and do the main bearings and and all that stuff i'm just gonna put pretty much the engine together here and i'm gonna stick it back in there and the reason we pulled it out and put it on the stand and that's another thing that we're going to have to we'll have to support it back here somehow how are we going to do that we need to support it back here because we're going to be pulling this bell housing and this clutch out of here and doing this rear structure so you see that rear structure is just washed clean right there but no i'm sure i'm glad that's that's it's a hell of a lot better sitting on the floor i don't think i'm probably going to be man enough to roll it because it would be nice if we had a nice smooth floor but it's just all chipped up broke up asphalt one of these days when i get rich maybe i'll get me a nice concrete shop floor that's not likely to happen i think what i'm going to do is i could come along on to it right under the hook of my service truck and i'm going to pull it over here let me get my come along now i got her turned a little bit i just wanted to get it away from the truck where i could walk around it and move around it actually rolling fairly easy now i just couldn't get it turned at a rough spot on the floor there that's probably not too bad right there before we work on it okay well my homemade lifting eyes i just i just got a torch and i used the bolts that i broke with the nuts on it and threaded them back in there and cut a hole in there and ran the chain through just a piece of oh what is it three by two two by three angle iron quarter inch wall thickness so that worked out just fine my lifting eyes that i had the holes weren't big enough for the most to go through so anyway okay uh mission accomplished on that part i want to get i don't know if i should wait i probably i'll probably pull this clutch off right quick let's just go ahead and do that right quick i'll probably wait on pulling this bell housing until i until i get the gasket and the seal i don't want to be gone and have this thing hanging you know on a jack or something back here supported maybe when i do this i'll grab it with the crane and support it with a jack underneath that way i'm kind of doubling up there on the safety part of it uh what are those like 5 8 it's going to be the wrong i need to block up the throwout bearing with something i got to put something in between the ears on the throw out bearing or i'm going to regret it so let me find something to stick in there i hope this will stay in here look out oh heavy bastard let's just go straight down with her and that clutch was put in there not very long ago they said it's not very old but he said that ever since they put the clutch in it's had a vibration problem ever since they put the clutch in so that's a little odd huh i don't really see anything right off that would cause that good i don't know why why it would have uh a vibration problem after the clutch was replaced that's a little bit strange huh did they take the slip yoke loose on the driveline i'm wondering and get the driveline out of time hmm i wonder if we can pull the flywheel out because we're going to be putting a rear main seal in it okay what size do those look like around i guess we're wrong maybe 21 12 point yeah right on the money huh let's turn this thing on full power got enough huevos for that one huh what's our battery like oh it's one bar maybe that's it [Music] all right get all those out finger smashing bastard come on baby come on out of there where is my rubber mallet this there she comes she's all right hell bloodies you're doing these out here i'll tell you that [Music] okay i don't see anything obvious that they would have done there i mean so basically there's a rear seal and there's uh we got to pull the starter out of it we gotta support the engine once we get the gasket and that rear seal this rear seal has been leaking see where it's been running down right here but uh we'll do the rear seal and the uh the uh this gasket here that seals the rear structure or the bell housing to the block and all right yeah lots better lots better a lot easier to deal with now so anyways i think what i'm going to do now uh is uh it's that that's just sitting on the jack i'm gonna get a jack stand underneath the transmission to help the jack so the jack doesn't leak off that there's a there's a little cross member that goes over the top of the transmission in the back it's on there too so it's helping support it but uh yeah here we go with another thing i thought i was going to be putting together and then they didn't give me all the damn parts i asked for i asked him i said make sure them rod bushings are in there and make sure you know i didn't want to buy rods for it i wanted to just take them to the machine shop usually they'll have them done in a day they'll just knock the old ones out and take your wrist pin with you and they'll ream them to fit the pin and make sure the clearance is there the oil clearance and you bring them back and they're they'll use the usually the machine charges me like 50 bucks a rod to do them you know versus 400 bucks a rod to buy new rods so i'm thinking i could just take this plywood over here that's another thing i could do i could get that radiator swapped out in there while i'm waiting on parts and get that done but this is my idea i don't know if that's the way it was designed or whoever made this but i thought you right know and just just climb under here do your thing that's pretty slick that'd work out just fine yeah there ain't nothing wrong with that it's a little bit i kind of wish it was a little bit further down but actually you know what it's actually probably better than being being laid on the floor and the engine being in the frame because sometimes sometimes they're too far and you're you always gotta sit up to try to do things but anyway well i'll call them tomorrow they said no i think that's probably what happened i bet ruth just didn't pull it because they said they had the rear structure and rear seal in stock they probably got that front seal in stock i think the only thing that i'm going to be screwed on is a small small end bushings for the rods so i might just go home it's i know people are gonna give me house memorial day today i didn't work sunday uh i sat around this morning until about nine o'clock and be honest with you i told my wife i i worked i stayed home yesterday but i ended up i got a 20 20 john deere and i got a rototiller for and got a box scraper and one of those yeah i've got a little box scraper three-point box scraper for it and got a uh oh i don't know six foot you know mower for it and got quite a few implements and stuff for it and anyways she's got about a one acre garden there and i i rototilled it all up for her and maybe i'll just go home before it gets dark because i told her to water that thing and it was so damn dry and hard i told her water that son of a gun now that i've got it broke up a little bit and softened that ground up a little bit maybe i'll go over it again so maybe i'll do that i'll go home and go over her garden again what the hell is that oh something is paper but anyways yeah good deal huh yeah let me get this transmission supported so we don't have an accident and these motor mounts here are going to get changed out so we got new ones of those and we got new rear motor mounts too so that's another thing we can do while we're waiting is we can get them mounts changed out all right guys well we got the engine out of here we can do the rear seal and the rear structure now here real easy like you know what i just thought of this with that pan off there why can't a guy just get a piece of plate get a good piece of plate and stick it across this right here and just then put a piece of plate on the flat surface of the block deck cert the pan where the pan mates up and just put a jack right in the middle of it on the back and just jack it up off that right there and if you had to you could put one of those little three ton jack stands underneath it just in case the jack like leaked down and then just pull that yeah that's what we'll do that's another idea we'll do that anyway i got a piece of i got a piece of quarter inch plate at home i'll bring back with me all right guys i know i'm a rambling son of again but thanks for watching hey make sure you hit that thumbs up there and you know and it sure helps out a lot i'll tell you what when when the guys get the thumbs up on the on all the videos and i get like 4 000 likes boy it sure helps the views get out there so all alright guys thank you
