I'm gonna share with you today how your Pompano rig may be failing you and you don't even know it the underwater camera does not lie it'll teach us so much on how to be better fisherman's with the rig's that we have tweaked them a little fix the problem and catch more quality fish let's get started here we are we're in Orange Beach I'm using a single drop rig extra-long with a salty McCrory's hook float and bead throwing it out in the surf this is my very first cast and as you can see it hits the water and the first thing that we can learn from this video are really how many catfish can swarm over to your bait it almost starts like an ant one ant finding food and then all of a sudden they call their buddies and they swarm that food until it's gone as you can see what started with a few is now many and this rig has failed at this point it's gonna fail anyways when you have all these catfish around it but it has failed to stay in the water column you can see that there's now separation from the hook falling down towards the seabed while the actual float stays on top this is going to leave your bait vulnerable to crabs snails stingrays if you've caught a stingray using a pompano rig with a float your float has failed and that bait has rested on the bottom of the ocean where the Stingray can eat it you can catch it so as you can see with this herd of catfish they are pulverizing my bait and the actual pompano rig can recover it will stay in this position in its entirety now I would eventually reel this in here's the thing when the rig fails it takes the tension away from the actual main line it's kind of dangling suspended in its own little its own little free zone and all of a sudden think about all these hits that are happening on that bait I am not detecting one single bait back at the shore because it's not tight it's just it's basically these catfish can do whatever they want to to my pompano rig and I'm gonna miss it now these catfish are all so small and so that's other reason why I can't really detect that bite but I would cast back in the same spot six times before I caught a small catfish and that's what made me think hey let's catch somewhere else look there's a crab my baits vulnerable he gets spooked off now you see this stingray how it flows through this area stops over my weight looking for food doesn't find anything and takes off if that pompano rig would have been on the bottom it would not have survived the stingray it would have been a stingray catch [Music] now this rig is suspended in the water column you can't see it it's a really long line but look over to the right I'm gonna freeze the frame three times you're gonna see a pompano come from the top right into where the bait is actually being suspended the pompano rig is not failing I didn't Week this rig I just put a smaller sand flea on and there was no small fish around it to cause that tug which makes it come off balance and where it sinks why the float rises to the top and as you can say boom fish on but this is doing the job it's a great fight he's a keeper fun times the rig failed at the beginning succeed at this point let me show you at this point how we can fix this pompano rig to where it won't fail exposing the bait on the bottom of the ocean while your float is separated from it let's show you as you saw in the video when I caught the pompano the rig was to spend it up in the water column when those little catfish were eating it they caused the the actual float to go higher and then all of a sudden this is exposed to bottom feeding predators okay the fix to this which I believe if you're using floats in this situation this fix comes from pompano brownie when he does his pompano rigs tutorial this is what he does to finish it off the fix is simple it's a toothpick break a piece off put it in one end and you can finish it off by pushing that all the way in I'll press it against my nail and there you have it that will not fail anymore all my Pompano rigs when I buy some from salty as well I put the toothpick in so I can make sure that the pompano rig does not fail this is probably the biggest tip for me to give out to you in 2019 I did not do this in the beginning okay I did not do this in the beginning with the toothpick I knew about this for about a year but it's one of those things like you had on me to do that I don't need to basically put a toothpick in there and enlarge the float in place that's not that big of a deal it is a big deal I'm a believer after seen what's happening to my rig on the underwater cam so you would do yourself a favor by working in some toothpick into your pompano rig to make sure that float does not slide back down the line causing this be exposed to crabs snails or stingrays thank you so much for watching we're gonna do some giveaways against sin but I'm still revamping all of that as I've been back from a hiatus from YouTube be patient thank you to all my patreon supporters you can see my patreon account I'll leave a link in the description there's ways for you to get perks but most important I'm thankful for you we've passed 3,000 subscribers join me
