hey all my name is kurt and welcome to slb basement bourbon bar as you can see on the bar top tonight we're going to be doing another distillery review not that long ago i asked our patrons which distillery review would you like us to do first old forester or wild turkey and they responded with old foresters so tonight we're going to be dealing with wild turkey and i can't wait because it's one of my favorites if you want to get in tune with our patreon check in the description of of any of our videos trenton has all that information there really cool stuff and we even have a live stream tomorrow actually with our patrons only and i ask them all kinds of good questions they give me all kinds of good information and a little bit of direction we taste some bottles and sometimes we even mix up some cocktails we have a good time so check that out when you have the time available but tonight trenton one of my favs buddy i can't wait to get into this one wild turkey distillery review i'm gonna start with the very first one i don't think you've had this before have you the regular one though no i haven't either until i got the bottle wild turkey kentucky straight bourbon whiskey trenton this one is 81 proof it's supposed to be six to eight years old somewhere in that line and it costs about 18 bucks so let's give this one a roll see what we have it's not bad i you know what it's not bad it's uh you can definitely send some hokiness in there but my only problem with it past that the only thing i really get is like a light a very light caramel or very light baking spice note not a lot going on trent what do you think as far as uh starter type bourbons that we've tasted before entry level that's a better word for entry level bourbon star where do you think this wild turkey stacks up for you compared to like the four roses we tried and a few things like that i think i prefer the wild turkey over the four roses dude i think i think for a beginner bourbon it's a very i would highly recommend it for anybody right just kidding yeah i i don't i don't find it complex whatsoever which is you know it's it's pretty normal for an entry bourbon but to me 81 proof you know but as we move up let's just get into this right now you know as you guys can see in the camera the next in line is wild turkey 101 wild turkey 101 101 proof it's it's a blend of six seven and eight year old bourbons and it cost about 22 bucks so trent let's let's give a little taste into that one see what we have all right as you guys know i really i love the wild turkey 101 i really really do you get that toasted oak a little bit of caramel a little bit of vanilla beautifully balanced 22 bucks and i think that's what that's why this particular bourbon here the entry level bourbon suffers is because it doesn't hold a candle to this wild turkey 101 for four dollars more i mean in all honesty for me personally i would always buy the 101 over the 81 proof however there might be some beginners out there that would prefer a little bit lesser proof point if that's you then then this is the bottle that you might start with but for me try and i'm going to assume i'm going to talk for you for this one but i'm assuming you would go for this 101 too so next in line russell's reserve tenure it's age stated we know it's a ten-year-old bourbon okay uh it is runs you about 35 bucks and it's 90 proof so let's see what we have here and i have actually never had this bourbon before [Music] i almost spit out my bourbon are you my son who are you i don't even know him anymore are you serious you've never had it before for real yeah i've always picked up the russell's single barrel and that stuff that you have down here because i don't have this at home and i don't think i have the single barrel at home either wow i always have brussels when i come here all right well we're going to see trenton's opinion of the 10-year here you all know what i think of the 10 years 35 dollars it's a 10 year old bourbon i mean a little bit of caramel a little bit of vanilla a real nice oak presents in there too i get a little bit of a like a tobacco or more of a you know some kind of that note there in the finish but 35 bucks man i just i just don't see how you can beat it i really want to know what you think of it i would go out and buy this and i might i might have to tomorrow yeah for real i mean so you like it though i love it i think it's really good yeah for a 35 10 year yeah and you know honestly i mean yeah in my opinion you just can't go wrong with russell's reserve tenure okay trenton here's one i really haven't had this is a brand new to me this only i only bought this a week or two ago in preparation of this show wild turkey long branch so let's see what we have in the long branch now this one is another lower proof trend it's 86 proof so and it's about 40 bucks and it's supposed to be like an eight-year-old bourbon and i know matthew mcconaughey has something to do with long bridge i just don't know what his affiliation is or how i don't know if his name is just on it or what but that's all that's all i know about long branch i don't have it at home either and to be honest with truthfully nor do i care i mean i got nothing against matthew mcconaughey but you know i don't buy bourbons because celebrity thinks this is part of it that's for sure but okay this is new to me okay this is a little bit new china i'm going to ask you what what is your what is your immediate thought of it comparably speaking now we're going to leave this alone this week we talked about this this is beginners wild turkey 101 we love 22 first time you tried first time you tried russell's reserve 10-year 35 bucks you liked it 40 do you think it's worth the step up in price i see i see no circumstance where i pick long branch and end up spending more i'd rather go for a while yeah no under russell's reserve time i'd have to agree with trenton on this one i don't think there's anything wrong with long branch i think i would actually refer to it more of as a beginner type bourbon because it's sweet slightly sweet it's got a little bit of honey to it to me some i think it even has a little bit of orange note and a very light oak presence in there so i think it has all the qualities that you're looking for trenton in a beginner's bourbon but it's 40 bucks that's what's kind of throwing me here i think this should be here that's my opinion but anyways nothing wrong with it you're the consumer your choice but for me for forty dollars e i don't know let's move on down the line wild turkey rare breed trend come on man come on right this has got six eight and twelve year old bourbons and it's like 116 proof 45 roughly depending on your area am i on the right one here bud is this one okay thank you [Music] like i always say you do have your vanillas your caramels in there things like that but what i love about this one is it's got that real nice charred barrel note to it it reminds me i've said it before it reminds me of like a burnt toast my wife knows right honey when i make peanut butter toast i burn the toast do i not yes i do that's what i do and i love it it reminds me of that i love that about that so trenton here's my problem 35 45 right 40 dollars to me this is a banger guys forty forty five dollars i don't even have no trends opinion because i already know i love this bourbon i specifically love it over one block of ice i only have a few that i really like it that way this is one of them and i can't say more good about it fantastic buy 45 trenton let's move on down the line to kentucky spirit single barrel now this one here is going to be 101 proof uh it's roughly about an 8-year bourbon and it's about 55 bucks is what you're looking at here so let's give it a quick taste and i got a little bit to add on this one that's a little bit extra that you don't know about [Music] boycott to me this particular bottle has got some really nice honey tones to its a little bit of caramel those a really nice lighter oak presence and i even sense a little bit of orange in there as well just a little bit before i get to what i want to say about this bottle what's your thoughts on this bottle in particular just the way it sits right now i i personally would not spend that the 55 on that i think rare breed for 45 is a much better much better yeah and you know what flavor is incredible and rare breeds i don't know that i would make the 10 step up to the kentucky spirit personally okay and i really can't argue his point i can't but what i want to add to this i've had a couple of these and i got one of the old you know the trenton i got the old fan bottle back there which i absolutely love which is my infinity bottle now so i'ma always keep that fan bottle i think it's cool i will say this is a single barrel and i've had a couple of these i probably had four of them maybe trenton i'm just guessing four or five i've had a couple of them that were just they weren't really that good with single barrels it varies a little bit but i had a comment and i've had some people tell me look for warehouse e the better kentucky spirits you'll find and everything is on the label everything you want to know is on the label my bottle here is barrel number two thousand 2609 it was stored in warehouse e on rick number 23. so i will say this they were 100 right this is the best bottle of kentucky spirit i've ever had and it comes from warehouse e it's very enjoyable a little bit lighter notes than some of this other stuff but i kind of really like it now 50 55 bucks stretching it just a bit is it worth it i think it is personally for this bottle for the other ones i've had absolutely not so let's move on trenton last but not least russell's reserve single barrel you know it's about trenton it's 110 proof and it's about depending now i've heard it's up to 65 in some area but it's around 60 bucks okay so let's see what we have in here hey man you trenton you know you already know about i think about it it was in my list of bourbons that if it's only five i can keep this is gonna be one of them and i love this stuff i really do molasses brown sugar you name it you got the beautiful oak note in there some caramel i love the stuff what's your thoughts pal on that bottle i would absolutely spend even even if i don't know what the prices are i haven't seen this around much recently but for 65 years i'd spend that in a heartbeat on this yeah you know and i would too and i've and here's the funny part about it now i don't know if this is accurate for everybody but this is a single barrel we just spoke about how single barrels vary kevin williams single barrel i have back here i've had some really not so good ones and i've had some really great ones this one here i was recommended warehouse e and it's pretty darn good but i've had some that were just okay so with russell's reserve though this seems like it's it's pretty consistent i know they're hand selected so i don't know i've always thought they're very consistent i think it's an excellent purchase for 60 65 bucks it's it's really really good stuff so hey real quick let me just review real quick i know there's a lot out here tonight there's a lot on the bar top to discuss wild turkey kentucky straight bourbon might be pretty good for a beginner only in in our in our opinion for trenton and i but you move up for for 22 dollars for four dollars more you get the wild turkey 101 hey it's a no-brainer it's a no-brainer all day long and then you got the russell reserve 10-year for 35 trenton's first try i can't believe that i still can't believe that definite buy there a 10 year old bourbon with some fantastic flavors long branch in my opinion it's 86 proof it's more of a beginner style bourbon for me i don't think i'll be purchasing the long branch again but hey you're the consumer you make the choice if you like it that's fine by me rare breed banger all day long 45 dollars i think it's one of the best values in bourbon then we move up to kentucky spirit that's a 50 50. this warehouse here i think it's pretty good i'm glad i bought it i appreciate those who've actually told me to get that because that was spot on so that's going to have to be a choice made individually i can see it going either way pass or buy we're also reserved single barrel 60 65 bucks you just can't go wrong fantastic stuff that's all i have for you today boy i'll tell you what i had a good time i'm gonna promise you that as you all know wild turkey is is one of my favorite distilleries and it was really fun going through all the core releases and i hope you had fun too as always we ask you to please drink responsibly we'll see you next time right down here with me in the good old basement bourbon bar see you later [Music] you
