it's never fun to do a bad news video he is going to continue making videos i am so sorry but i've been contacted by a lot of you have had good experiences with these two sun knives and they this doesn't change your experiences at all um this might be a one-off it might be a fluke this is what happened with mine it's not a issue against anyone who likes this company or these knives or even this exact knife but um it is what it is and um what you get with this channel is you get what you get you don't get upset or you get very upset and leave several paragraphs in the comments either way enjoy [Music] with its snappy action really tidy neat little design and apparent s90v still the tucson dynamo designed by tape designs tepe designs certainly got my attention really really cool little knife it's something that i would recommend for people who want something little and punchy that find the wii banter perhaps just a little bit too vanilla for them so this is a great little um alternative to that maybe like a little coin pocket carry fires out like a jolt of lightning due to a really cool little uh deployment wheel kind of system basically a rounded off flipper with a bit more uh intensive knurling on it and yeah overall a really well done solid construction so initially this guy was hitting a home run for me two sun knives seem to be one of those kind of almost temporary chinese knife companies that sort of exist flourish for a couple of years and then kind of get absorbed into another company or something similar that seems to be what's happened um their knives can still be bought on amazon on ebay and on aliexpress so definitely those bigger marketplace kind of sites and yeah generally i hear lots of positive accounts these are lots of lots of time as a knife kind of guy with a platform kind of channel you get these brands for up that everyone's trying to get you into so ganzo was one a few years back everyone was like ganzo ganzo again so you gotta get into ganzo the value is amazing the builds are great i never really did get into ganzo i always found at that point that their designs were kind of kind of crude amalgams of um you know benchmade and spyderco and lines still kind of all smushed into one it just didn't grab me if you loved ganzo then that's great i'm not sure if they're still going but if you did love ganzo then more power to you never really got me and tucson was kind of another one of those brands i had heard of them before um i did a little bit of looking up and yeah it seems like i don't even know if they're just a subset of another company or something similar they've got a couple of instagram accounts branded 2017 and 18. um so yeah nothing they're certainly not spider-co and then they're certainly not kaiser or we knives either don't quite know what they are anyway what they've wound up putting in my hand is a really nicely designed little edc focused pocket knife let's look at it next to some other pocket knives to see how big this guy actually is spyderco delica [Music] iii rex 45 [Music] buck 110 we knife company banter half breed blades large bush folder and here is some spine thickness scissors the delica the banter and then this tucson dynamo chunky boy so as you can see it's a knife a very neat little um compact specifications the most i guess out of the ordinary thing on is it's got a little bit of a thick spine there so it's about four mil thick on the spine so that's you know a lot more than you would usually get that being said and i guess this is moving into the review part of the the story it does cut quite well still so with the edge this has been since resharpened and still tested with the edges that it came with from andrew who was the one of my patrons who sent it in thank you andrew it still cut really well on my vinyl rope vinyl rope vinyl tubing test which is stuff that i find very difficult to cut with all but the keenest of edges this did fine really did cut the vinyl tubing well with just the edge that it came with not even with the 17 degree mirror polish you know per side that i've since put on it so as a cutting blade even though it does seem a bit thick unnecessarily so i would postulate postulate being a walking thesaurus doesn't equate to intelligence it's ended up cutting just fine it's going to have those same sort of thick knife problems so when you cut things that i have a bit of tension to them or that i you know it's a longer cut it'll crack things in half from time to time rather than just slicing them to the two of them neatly like say a kitchen knife or something a bit more delicate but apart from that for edc use for getting out of your pocket it's going to cut really well so well done i'm happy with how it's ground despite the blade thickness moving into the handle ergonomics you've got a piece of carbon fiber on one side and a piece of titanium on the other both are forming sort of a bone shape almost like a it's forming like a an hourglass shape almost so just kind of swooping in the narrowest point being in the middle and then bulging out at either end and it's a fine small knife carry it's it's not even not quite even a handful it's just you know sits in the center palm last finger kind of floats off into the distance just a little bit but overall for getting out of your pocket pulling out cutting a couple of things and putting back no worries at all so overall in terms of basic execution as an edc poker knife i have no issues at all with it whatsoever the pocket clip is fine it's i feel like optimized towards coin pocket carry it's just a little bit sharp on the tip um kind of snaggy almost so i think keeping it separate from your other things is not a terrible idea you could sort of graze past this little tip here and engage perhaps the the back of a you know softer metal device such as your iphone or something like that so just something to keep in mind if i'd probably keep it separate maybe keep in the same pocket as your keys rather than as your phone just notice that as i've just gone to reach past it just kind of around as you do you know does kind of scratch just a touch on the clip there but it holds it in the pocket fine it's just a sort of straight piece of titanium that slides over your pocket seam fairly well no issues there the locking up of the knife it's got a very solid lock up so as a lock it functions really well it's got that thing and lots of knives have this the zt 022 has this where if you're applying any pressure to this lock bar here when you go to flip it open it doesn't flip or it's a lot harder to push past the detent it's like i think you need a track or there's something they do inside the knives often to stop that from happening but putting any more than the most rudimentary of force on that locking leaf there that frame lock can make it difficult to open so that's something that i don't love and it's something that i think now that i know other companies can get past that it's a bit annoying to still come across it but i think this is the design from a couple of years ago maybe before they had you know openly resolved that issue if you could call it one but it is something that you can be mitigated just by keeping your hands off the lock when you deploy so there you go uh the deployment wheel is a really nice little and i'm really frankly surprised to not see this more often maybe it's a um maybe it's copyrighted or maybe it's intellectual property or something if that is the case then good work or being because you've made a really fun really nice uh to use launching method of you know really does as just as well as a flipper and it's not a pecker at all it's rounded off entirely i mean it's got a different sort of quality to it i guess you could you could maybe find it a bit rough or grindy perhaps but really excellent little use and really fits in well with this kind of design really sort of low impact and uh really nice i actually really like the deployment and the flipping it's on a set of washers and bearing washers in there as well so it deploys really well really nicely does it drop shut yes it does it drops shut so there you go all the knife guy stuff on a really small scale is done pretty well really really well done design the design is the strongest point of this blade for sure apart from one little thing which this is a me problem i was looking at it the other night and then i couldn't stop thinking about this being like a little pair of bowls there and the old wiener coming out there and then i started thinking about butters with his chin balls well um they call me a turn ball boy and a ball chain boy when i was when i'm walking there i was like hey are those chicken balls and it's kind of decreased the seriousness or the sternness the knife has with me if it ever had much at all but there you go but moving on to the main thing we've got a really well done blade and a pretty well done handle and a nice execution but knife says it's made of s90v i don't know it just seems like i'm not gonna i don't have the moxie to say that they're not telling the truth about the steel but it does seem it's odd you don't see too much s90v apart from kind of specialized projects and brands and sprint runs and things like that it's unusual to see it get sent to china to be made into tucson dynamos but whatever you see other stuff like you see lots of um m390 and you see lots of what's the other one they're using all the time s35 vm seeing lots of that so i mean hey maybe so what i've decided to do is take this to the knife lab because i don't really have i'm a normal guy i don't have all the highly precision machines to test if this is the chemical recipe for the s90v steel or not i you need far more advanced machinery than i am available than i've availed myself too but what i do have is a desk a chopping board some twisted cesar rope and a sharpening system for a 17 degree mirror polished edge on this guy so let's see how i went [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Applause] so [Applause] yeah i'm calling it it's like two obvious dulled out spots on there to cause the knife to steer off and then stop and then drag into sort of fluffy cuts so yeah the spyderco mule in the s90v cut the rope 700 times that's performance you'd expect out of s90v it's a upper level edge retaining steel difficult to sharpen lasts a long time that's the trade-off you get and i mean not difficult to sharpen on my kme for sure but perhaps it would take a few more than the average amount of stone sharpening passes for sure so that's generally the trade you're getting with s90b what i found with this s90v if it isn't if it is in fact s90v is that it sharpened very easily that's sharpening very bloody easily that's for sure a very rapid reprofiling need very few passes were needed to completely reprofile and put a mirror polished shiny edge on this blade and then when i did my rope cutting test it cut the rope 275 times and that was at a bit of a push he seems unaware that lauren thomas has made him obsolete so i'm pretty confident that i had the same edge as the mule or as the same as i could make i use the same equipment the same angle measuring the same everything that i could make to make it the same same as i could compared to my spyderco mule i've done other s90v tests before but they were using different uh sharpening systems and things like that so point of comparison is the s90v mule from spyderco 700 times to 270 times is too big a difference to me to to say that this is something hasn't gone wrong here something's something's not right so either the heat treat is far undercooked or conversely the edge was you know severely burnt during grinding or it's not as naive at all i don't know which one of those things is more likely to be but if this is you know 64 rockwell s90v that spyderco would have put on their mule series i will eat my asshat for sure but i think if it is s90v which it may be they've either gone really soft maybe very safe with their heat treatment or they've yeah made some kind of error that has made it well not a bad performer like it's still cut a decent amount of time but i can get this performance with this edge out of cts bd1 or vg10 almost i think so definitely not that stratospheric s90v performance and you know if you're going to have s90v why not why would you not go for that level of performance you know simply getting the steel doesn't mean it's going to perform like you still have there's several other steps you need to do they've ground it correctly for sure like it's got a good grind on it as i said before but you need to treat it correctly as well for it to hold that good long edge so and i just don't feel like the most positive you know of the options is that that hasn't happened so all i'll say in this review is that it doesn't cut like s90v should and it's not how you you know if they're advertising s90v as a feature then it feels more like at best s35 vm and i know all these things aren't really world-ending stuff now now we can't forget the great hrc meme war of 2019 [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] if you're a knife nerd and you care about the steel matching what it says on the box and performing like it should given that it matches that still then yeah there's a little bit of an issue here for sure which is a shame because everything about the designs from this tape design house is excellent like it's a really cool really different little knife and it's really impressive and it's put together well enough apart from that little lock bar kind of snafu there put together really well as well so just a bit of a shame that something's going on with the s90v steel on this one because if the s90v was just right then this would be an absolute home run like a complete winner up there with the wii banter the dragonfly zdp 189 in those little coin pocket knives that do really well so there you go guys bit of a funny review there i don't like these kind of these internet controversies but there is a little bit of one here i think like it's something's not quite right so the numbers there if it was 500 or 600 and the spyderco was 700 i'd be like oh this is just a because i'm a dumb person in my shed now you're talking i've made a couple of small mistakes or there's something variable about it going on here but that difference is a void there's a chasm between this and spyderco's performance so there you go make of that what you will my friends i think if your biggest issue this week is a knife steal being weird that qualifies you as living in the top 10 of the available opulence the brick people will put you all underfoot it will be the handmaid's tale but for both human sexes your name will be of bricky [Music] do [Applause] [Music] you
