thing if if this moment did not have confetti spray it was over complicated either by Tyler or Ash and we all just gave it up so it shouldn't be that complicated no it shouldn't okay but we also are the theorist channels where we over complicate everything in life even down to the level of simple gameplay videos hi well and I guess that's actually a really good segue to the game that we're playing here today uh completely unexpectedly today we're playing the looker which I don't know much about I Know video game Dunkey played this a while ago and I've I've mentioned in the past uh that I played the The Watcher I believe was the original name of the game The Watcher which the witness witness thank you I'm like that doesn't sound right that doesn't sound right thank you it's the witness so the witness is fantastic um if you've never played it it is a puzzle game that I I mean like takes the concept of of very simple like mazes and elevates it you know to every way to Sunday where it's getting you to question everything about the world around you um it is it's not for everyone and it is a game that I would be surprised if many people see all the way through to completion to finishing it let alone completion uh there's hundreds and hundreds of puzzles all based on this idea of like Get amazed you know solve a line puzzle through a maze and that's it um what I loved about first off I like puzzle games but secondly it's a game that I think does really interesting things with game design uh where it uses the element and structure of Designing a game designing a fictional virtual world and feeds it directly into the core gameplay Loop which is solving these puzzles right and so all of a sudden you know there are hints in the environment or the glare off of the Sun or things off in the distance and it's commenting on how you solve this puzzle that otherwise you're like how do I solve this thing you know like the way the vines are growing around you is your like clue to the solution and it's this very organic way of puzzle solving that felt very unique very refreshing uh as The Story Goes I think like the developer of it you know it was like his like Master prod his his uh Opus yeah magnum opus yes thank you that was the word I was looking for I am so good at words yeah right you're you're crushing it with the words this morning thank you thank you um yeah it was it was like his magnum opus right it was amazing and it's a great game I loved it we we played through you know the whole Steph and I together play through the whole thing we did additional puzzles at the end we did the bonus puzzles we didn't do all of them um just because they're hidden all over the place but we found a lot of them and we did the vast vast majority of the game um and the cool thing about it too was Steph and I would approach the puzzles in two very different ways right where I you know I would see Solutions faster on some puzzles she would see ones faster on others anyway the looker is a parody of that I guess it what is it it's a parody of the witness but it also arguably redefines what we know of Comedy wow redefines what we know of course so yeah where the witness redefined what we know of game design the looker redefines what we know of Comedy yeah and game design it sets up one of the most impressive jokes of all time really yeah wow so that's that's the tease that so that's the Cliffhanger not hey my wife left me and I'm going to tell you this at the end of the episode this is this is going to redefine everything we understand about comedy and game design yeah and by the end of the today's episode you will get the joke yeah wow well potentially well hopefully we'll see okay this game contains here we go so this is it I I again I'm going in completely blind so I don't know this game contains many literary Illusions without a broad classical education it will seem stupid great good job we're decently well read if you want to succeed in the game industry APA developers chairs creation that's that's the solution cool press the shift key to walk fast I like that that's actually a tip but that one is very useful uh right click to exit a puzzle all right here let's see one last one last tip here left click while up close to a puzzle to perform a glory kill all right cool so I have a feeling we are you know on a similar wavelength of heightened puzzle solving here you know it's getting deep let's really expect a quality thing so I'm assuming that this is just all a joke with the puzzles that's one interpretation but now that this values your intelligence as a player it does value my intelligence it values your intelligence your time and that's why the loading screen was so long fair enough okay so I could go forward but I could go backward so I'm gonna go I'm going to start by going backward I'm curious in the original game you could only go forward oh wait solve to delete the save file this will erase all progress okay I don't want to erase I have yet to progress click and drag the mouse to draw on a screen okay two drawings [Music] I'm glad that I've got uh reloaded and my Med kit for what whatever the future of this game has in store for me okay it seems like there's like a first person's shooter section is that just that's the joke right that's for the walls again going in completely blind so I have no idea uh start to end okay so it does seem like it's following the same logic here could I have gone around that so again like in the original game you were confined to very specific like walls and mazes and things so could I have just you know drawn outside the bounds here nice I think it inside the box for now oh yeah this is this is a pretty direct replica yeah uh again if you've seen anything of the witness it's the phenomenal game um I highly recommend you play but yeah it looks very similar to very similar to this uh again I feel like I could just go outside the walls of all of these but like if I did this could I just like is this a possibility it is okay there so so there are very easy solutions to these I'm hopeful that'll you know I'm assuming that it might get harder we'll see uh so okay again in the original game you have to follow the lights look at these mat UPS Ash you know they just announced it um that was part of the update of being able to jump wait really yeah is this a new update this is the updated version of the game and this is my madoffs yeah so they said by popular demand you can press space and hop it's over here oh hey secret hints go on get don't look at me what hold up can you hear me I'm nothing but a rusty chunk of Steel you don't want nothing to do with me you say hint on you though I I want to associate with you all straight across the way see this is this is pretty elaborate stuff here Ash I don't know if you're you're seeing what's going on oh I'm seeing it the Khan received an ornate letter signed by Marco Polo in Madrid city of lost things no item remains where it was set if one drops his key on the dirt he may never re-enter his home even if he manages to stoop and recover the key he may rise to find a Tulip Garden where his house once stood in complementary fashion things lost by others are forever turning up a pocket watch on a coffee table fond memories and recollection I even know the prince who turned up in a prison cell when he appealed to the guards he failed to find the crown slowly back away I'm gonna go sophomore puzzles now thanks guys for the release of this Prince of Spain is for you to send back 300 ducats for his release once he is out yours truly Marco Invisible Cities too this time can we stop this I'll get it okay so again if you haven't played the original witness some of this might not make sense or maybe you just intuitively get it but the original witness was filled with these just like incredibly long verbose story drops or not even story drops but like long audio logs that were very tangential to anything that was going on in the game and so you're like left to kind of ask the question of like what does this all mean laughs I'm sure I could is there a way to actually solved this I'm just scanning it real quick that's a dead end that's a dead end that looks like oh wait up over no that's a dead end up up over up over up over up over down hmm yeah a lot of these I don't know if there would have actually been a way to solve this well great I'm glad I thought outside the box that's that was awesome um I kind of feel like I want us all at least one of them oh hello sorry sorry about that nope that's nope okay this way just like that you know I feel like in my adult life I don't get to solve enough mazes in wait this is blocked this is blocked this is blocked this is blocked this is blocked nope yeah I know this is there is no way to solve this puzzle yeah the only way to solve this puzzle is to actually go outside the lines there we go good to know can you go through the lines can you hmm we could try it we'll try it on the next one okay why not I think it would be fun well oh yeah funny event you shouldn't mention that let's find out shall we no what hmm oh man we have ourselves a tricky puzzle foreign oh man Ash we've got we've got to actually use our critical thinking skills here oh oh no I know right are we ready for this again one of the things that I loved about the witness was there were puzzles not like that but with a similar sort of again outside the box mentality to them and so the fact that that was this that's so funny Innovation that excites it I I you know what and I am excited that's great so you know what I think this one so that okay and again the the the witness is really good at teaching you step wise the like the challenge and then elevating it so this one taught you hey you can draw outside the panel and also it taught you that you could draw in gray space so this one I'm assuming is teaching us that um I say and I'm completely wrong about because I was gonna be like oh and this one's gonna show us that we can draw because the start is right here along the black is that we can start right here and go outside the boundaries but apparently that is not the case so ignore that completely if we go here no I guess that I was wondering if maybe so is there an actual solution here let's see let's let's start the end Let's do an old old school style kindergarten Style so here because it seems like there's only one route no back out okay so it's got actually test the word great yeah starting at the ending not cheating at all that's totally fine this is fun again is the witness the game for everyone no probably not but hmm [Laughter] [Music] um is there a word end anywhere and it also gets you again this this reminds me of so when Stephanie I first met she forced me to play portal not force me like I didn't know what portal was at the time when we first met but she did it to test what my like thought process was or to see like how I would react to the puzzles inside of portal so specific well I mean because the portal T you know it's a lot about is there like a hidden worthy or something like I keep expecting there to be like invisible ink or like the word end will appear somewhere in the Maze and then we know where it is but yeah she wanted to see like oh how do you think and you know can you think kind of like laterally or whatever as you as you do these puzzles and so I passed her test which was good I'm very happy about that but this is kind of the same way where it's like okay so what is the word end like hidden because I could also see there being the word end hidden inside the maze itself right like oh the walls of the maze spell the word and like here you can see like this is kind of like an e e [Music] I think it's saying e EP beep beep beep beep beep yeah okay beep you're right there I mean beep [Music] beep beep come on beep beep that's so funny I was like oh we can't hear the letters why is it so quiet right no it was intentional yeah yeah right and then I could I also cranked it up a little bit so we could hear it better but that's so funny oh that's great that's great that was oh that's hilarious what that was that was brilliant that was broken right there come on right right I appreciate it just get going come on man oh through many births I have wandered on and on searching for great never finding great better deal than zero percent April for trucks where we do the things that get things done yeah get things done with a truck better deals great oldies oh that's fantastic so uh oh wait wait wait wait we just learned that you can connect start and end as Essen e right or what what will start and finish hold up the last it was it was sne yeah so presumably connecting sne in other oh but you also have to connect lowercase like you have to connect uppercase and lowercase yes good job Matt that's that that's smart because yeah the earlier puzzle showed you that there were two lines that you had to connect uppercase the uppercase lowercase lowercase and that's so cool outsmarted the guide do you realize that wait really why what's the guide say well I was looking at the guy just to give you hints if you got like super stuck yeah but it says to just keep drawing lines over the sign because they didn't realize that there was a connection between the uppercase sne and the lowercase oh that's funny so you have congratulations oh I came up with the actual solution for it as opposed to randomly do this thing nice I'm proud of myself yeah I mean that's that's smart this is smart I thought that this was just gonna be a joke game but this is like there's legitimate gameplay here and the puzzles are tricky okay this is terrifying I am scared of this welcome to like the analog horror segment it looks like Benedict's Cumberbatch but like wrong that's looking better than Cumberbatch oh hello um I need it to drip over the black lines here keep going okay so okay so now yeah there it is huh oh he's gone there's no s there's an e though oh hey the door's locked now oh no oh hey oh cool I love games I play when I'm not filming for GT GT not live it is stuff like this and Dark Souls basically that's it Mario Platformers imagine gravity is fractal because light is just a wave and gravity is just a wave so imagine there's a big piece of glass that splits up gravity like a prism so that there's like blue gravity and yellow gravity and then somebody gets hit by the red gravity oh no not the right gravity so they have super strength but like they're also really slow and another guy gets hit by microwave gravity so he's trying to zap everybody and just when he's about to zap the main guy we see a lady come out and she turns out to be ultra violet girl and she has super speed so she beats him and it like also gave her giant cans Thomas pinch on gravity's Rainbow gravity's rainbow ash here at summary that's that's actually a good question have you read gravity's rainbow I've not I have not either I know that that's one of those ones that they're like oh you should read like that's that's one of those like literary Classics that you hear people say good things about but yeah I don't know anything about it I just know that it is a book that sometimes you have to read for school hello is there a puzzle up here I thought there was I thought I saw a couple oh another starting end the notion of two realities is uncomfortable and in recent decades a genuine effort has been made to find the link between Quantum and classical so that we can have a single reality whose laws and rules are United at some deeper level this brings us back to prayers let's say that a prayer is a classical event or feels like one you a unique individual have a particular request which you voice in words that no one else is speaking at that instant what if this classical event gets processed at a non-local level the notion isn't far-fetched because it seems that the mind-body link does consist of fluctuations at the quantum level if this is so then any thought not just a prayer as Quantum implications Deepak Chopra a spiritual mystery does God listen to prayers part two so and again no bad ideas in brainstorming but here we have this we have this oh maybe if we oh oh God ah why did I right is so clearly we have this the solar panel that we I probably want to reflect into the sun in some way right we or we want to turn the sun to it or something we also have this solar model right and if and if this whole thing is start to end or S to e if we're constantly if all the puzzles are connecting S's and E's the Sun starts with an S the Earth and starts with an E so I was thinking like oh maybe there's a way to connect S and E here but it doesn't seem like that's necessarily like I can't draw on anything so maybe not but that's where my mindset was or maybe there was something in the Sun and again like feels like we should be able to do something up here and I'm not unless unless again like maybe this is a bit more linear and I need to solve other other puzzles first s e but yeah I'm not 100 sure okay so we've got so we got one where it's like okay maybe changing colors or something or maybe I just need to be more precise not exactly sure we've got that guy so we're not 100 sure what that's going to do this is probably going to open up this which is going to change the chess board and then we're going to do a puzzle on the chess board so this can you do I I don't hmm I don't think this is gonna work yes oh for you to figure that out that's cool that's cool okay so it doesn't have to be sne that's that's cool all right that's good to know nice yeah did you know this is a reference so braid right braid is I believe it was the witnesses the the developer of the witness his first game or one of his herbs that was first but one of his early games became this huge Indie smash it was like when you look at games that started the history and the rise of indie games and like some of those early players you have stuff like Cave Story you have stuff like limbo and braid was one of them it was basically like the the definitive uh platformer like Indie thoughtful artsy platformer where it's like you are basically playing a Mario game but you have time manipulation mechanics attached to when you can rewind things um again a very iconic game in the early days in the early rise of Indy and to kind of to the explosion where it is still to this very day um but again it was all about playing forward and backward with time and so one of the things that comes to mind here right is ponytail obviously a braid reference uh thanks a lot Mac I'm assuming they weren't able to Port it to macros like I'm assuming that that's just a joke at Max expense like oh they weren't able to get the game on the Mac but the reason I was wondering if the solution here is actually e to S is because if it if that game was all about rewinding time and slowing down time and this and that [Music] and you even hear it in the music where it kind of reverses I was wondering maybe that's the solution or maybe this isn't a puzzle maybe we just you know it's just an Easter egg reference because it does it is making the sound of like dude it's giving us the little strum that we did it um here we go let's see what else we got this one seems fairly simple oh oh here we go is this the laser beam again this is in the witness at the end of everyone you get a lead like if you if they're you complete like a chunk of the map you get a laser beam that shoots to the center of the island to unlock like the big puzzle of the big like thing at the end of the island and it's a very long animation I'm gonna shoot my laser so on one hand you're like oh this is meant to be a joke but on the other hand this is actually how long it takes in the game itself it takes forever but it the the Team Laser is I think parody shooting it just into the wall man you want to shoot it up a little bit higher oh is this high enough for you Matt right it felt attacked lower just this is a game that you guys will appreciate like I know I think people played it and were just meming on it again I I saw donkey do like the looker and I'm like wait that looks like the witness and I was really excited to check it out uh and I figured with the name like the looker and stuff that was probably a self-parody but this is this is great like it's got legitimate gameplay it's got legitimate puzzle solving it is very different and getting you to think outside of the box with these balls this is awesome I am so happy hey guys and welcome to GT not live we're back on the couch channel if you're not familiar with me I um I'm here you were the original co-host of the original you're not writer I know it's the other person who shows up on this couch and not in frequent amount of times right exactly and this game that we're playing today was so fun when Matthew played it by himself and he was like you gotta play this game and I was true okay give me this game and so last night um he downloaded it for me and I you know breezed right through all the puzzles in the first section to catch up with where he was and I was like this is a really fun dude and and he was like yeah I know that's why I downloaded it for you stupid and then I was like I did not call her stupid for the record stupid was not thrown out there but he was like do you want to come film on the couch so we can play more of this game and I was like yes please because my alternative for Monday morning which is when this is being filmed sorry break the illusion no the illusion is shattered uh my alternative for this Monday morning is like making PowerPoint slides and sending emails and so I was like puzzle game sign me up but PowerPoint slide Steph I know I'm PowerPoint my pointing is very powerful it is it is my puzzle sauce I would dare say it's it's not just powerful it is mighty point oh wow it's not PowerPoint no it's a mighty Point yeah your pointing is mighty so he's just flattering he's just he's just buttering me up so I'll solve the puzzles for him I know I'm buttering you up so you stay on the couch with me [Laughter] [Music] so uh when last we left off this is uh the witness parody called the looker but even though it's a parody it's a it's a outright really smart puzzle game unto itself we got through a bunch of puzzles last time uh Stephanie like she said actually got through the same amount of puzzles in basically the same amount of time uh so great minds truly do think alike it's no wonder we hang out together I know uh and so literally apparently we had like the same thought processes oh yeah there are certain times where I'm like oh I did that oh I did that too oh we did the exactly yeah so okay anyway long story short we are here we are back at the Hedge maze uh which is where we left things off and and we're just gonna hop into it so here we go um okay are you ready Steph I'm ready so and the reason oh this is that hedge maze that we saw from the outside yeah cool great and I know this is the right way or maybe it is oh hello initially I was like oh I'm not trying to solve this hedge maze I just want to see what's in the corner yeah exactly but now I guess we're in the process so we're just standing right now we're just in the midst speaking of hedge mazes oh my gosh so I have spoken on the just to get stuff up I've spoken on on these episodes about how Steph and I spent this summer in London yeah and ah the handmade game is so strong hedge maze game for days hedge maze for days oh my gosh so fun and some of them are pretty tricky yeah oh hello a secret Chapel in the Maze that'd be awesome to get married in the middle of a hedge maze so your guests have to find the ceremony and then find the reception afterwards you're like why that would be awesome that why is everyone late to my wedding we lost Uncle Joe again oh he's out there Uncle Joe wave your flag so we can go get you oh okay okay all right okay let's see what this does yeah so Stephanie knows the mechanics now yeah I know the mechanics oh you can just go through the you can the the flower is like a little Port key okay so oh so we have a restart option here that's fine just go do you want to go through so crown Double Diamond yeah I think you have to go through all the goldie things right that makes sense does it does that happen stuff in the in the way that the logic of this game kind of makes sense anyway okay we're going through the goldie thing it's so satisfying to solve bubbles I love it nope oh wait what that didn't work no that one didn't work okay just go so go through the Moon and whoops hello and hourglass I did a terrible job drawing there so Moon hourglass so maybe we start with astrological symbols so we go Star then Arrow you really think so no I don't know I think either way it's absolutely probable maybe it's the top then bottom maybe you go from top to bottom that wouldn't work right what do we do try going from top didn't see this at the end of your gameplay and I ended it there and I'm like I don't know how to do this yet but we're gonna learn I think what that just taught us to do is how to do the puzzle at the top of the castle oh Neato okay right there I'm so excited I have no idea how big this game is it's already much bigger than I expected right okay so this is what I was talking about okay start down so there we go oh man did we learn have we learned our lesson in this game I was filling everyone in last time we played this on the channel about how you and I were obsessed with the witnesses this is it but also we just played it religiously together Matthew had the nerve to start playing a puzzle game without me oh wait we failed mark can we do wrong one two three wait how do we do it good we're all good Stephanie's biggest challenge playing this game last trigger happy was actually drawing now if you have very high mouth sensitivity on his computer okay and that's where I was playing it it's not my fault but I did have to redraw over a whole bunch of there was one maze the one where it makes the sound where it's like yeah yeah or like whatever it says that one I was literally just like scribbling over the maze to try and find where the actual end point was I feel like scribbling is how I assume most people do it because Ash last time informed me about the walkthrough that I was walk through was just like Scribble until it opens oh come on was that what it was it said scribble until it opens but Matt found the actual way to do it um and outsmarted the walkthrough hey it was pretty wild Stephanie figured it out pretty quick yeah I also figured it out wait come on where is it not connected here where are you not connected you look so connected right no oh shoot no oh man come on where is it okay hold on I'm just gonna do it again okay sorry welcome to okay welcome to Matthew draws bad lines for and I understand that this is my problem okay okay the white that white beam okay white beam up to somewhere uh oh no just up to the oh interesting right the wiping does not cows okay you're on the black no no okay I'll wait down to here okay oh there Cannons and did some things out of water so in the walk through there was more after what we already did so we technically beat all the puzzles we just did them in a separate order than usual you just did just a spicy way oh so that was that so really that was that was the true end and there are no more puzzles to be had yeah I mean I told you that this was cutting edge comedy I love puzzles I feel empty I know I I got really excited Steph and I had breakfast this morning I'm like oh my gosh are you gonna join me for the looker and I'm like yeah I'm a looker no I'm not oh wait Embrace we didn't brace your beauty oh I meant like I I was trying like describing myself in a funny but creepy way like oh like Oh I'm a looker yeah I'm like that's an unusual thing well I'm surrounded by Beauty all right okay I guess that's it well this is really great actually this is a really nice way to start my morning thank you I'd like that last night this is gonna be like a 20 minute episode of GT live shortest episode ever but even though we might fuse this into looking we might need to fuse this into look away I think that's what we do yeah yeah though brief our time together was special please what did we clock in it like a little over an hour 15. do you realize how unusual that is for us it's it the first time ever we have beaten an estimate of someone else's gameplay unreal and that's even with all the banter and stuff good for us so anyway there you have it ladies and gentlemen that's the looker uh you have the solutions to the puzzles now but clearly there you will have two players if anyone makes an extended version of this or does more with it because it's great um real quick just just because I'm gonna open it up one more time okay because in the original witness after you beat the game there's potentially more to be had so I don't think that there's gonna be more here but I'm just gonna throw it out there on the off chance that you know there might be there's a small glimmer of hope in my heart that there might be more here I don't think there is but maybe just maybe because again the whole witness is all about you start to look at the world around you in a very different way no it started me back here which makes it tells me that this is the final puzzle yeah all right shoot well there you have it ladies because otherwise I think it would have started me at the beginning and then you get to like open up a new pathway or a new door to something but yeah this looks like it's basically the same thing so oh what a shame okay any other s's any other e's in this world around me s e are you there no it's nothing nothing all right there you have it ladies and gentlemen that's the looker fantastic game uh of a fantastic parody of another game which was also fantastic just across the board really really cool uh so if you haven't checked it out it's on Steam and it is free so play the game test your friends with it like I tested Stephanie with it it's
