Is the New Catfish Boat Cursed?

all right guys rolling down the road with the new to me boat the line I've got it in tow today I'm actually gonna fish out of it it is to the point that it's fishable uh I've made some adjustments to it some tune-ups some fixes and I think she's fishable at this point at least we're gonna see it is not exactly where it's gonna be there are some things that are going to be added on to it we're going to talk about some of that stuff but I think I've got enough stuff in place that I can at least work out some of the Kinks and see what needs to be added and what can stay the same yeah guys it's a lot more boat than I am used to uh messing with so it's a little bit intimidating fishing out of it I only say that because well I don't know it I just hadn't figured it out yet hadn't dialed it in but that's what today's about all right first order of business put the plug in if you don't do anything else and to make sure the plug is in place all right let's go drop her in the water and see if she still floats one of the things I needed to test was whether or not the bilge or any leaks in it we checked it one time I had to redist some stuff on some Plumbing but I just want to take a look at that before we head out a little bit of water could be from some hoses we'll keep an eye on it maybe a drip off of one of the inboard lines there I think that may be one of the water intake lines that comes into the live well definitely something to keep an eye on that's why we're out here to check this stuff out here's the best part guys I'm gonna master power here this sonar unit you're going to get to see it's a hook seven this is not exactly the most expensive technology yes at some point I'm gonna upgrade it but for a while I'm gonna fish with this thing show you all that you can catch some fish with this technology send it RPMs let's stretch it out and see what happens running about 33 at 4 800. you got 5000 RPMs that's all the throttle it's got with this prop good about 36 miles an hour now a couple of the things I kind of redid to my liking on the boat was there's a live well on both sides a big live well here and a big live well over here I only went with one of them really don't need to I've got a big bait tank if I need that if I'm doing it in the live baiting so I kind of Switched that around there was also a rod bar entirely across here and I did away with that I don't know that that truly fit the way I was fishing and it's a little bit uh unstable so I've got some stuff I'm going to be introducing trying out on that aspect of it I'll show you that a little bit later but yeah I'm pretty much in good shape to fish it's just a matter of getting a feel for everything how the boat fishes how it drives all that kind of stuff working through the Kinks working through all the stuff but for now she's trolling good it's a nice calm day so uh not really a challenge for this boat at this point but see if we can hook a fish all right guys I can't tell if I'm hooked up or hunk see what we got here feeling huh nope may be a good fish it is a good fish it's a good fish good fish man I fished a lot of water today could not get a bite that first troll was probably a mile long never had a sniff made a run got up here unhooked up I hit my net in position here hadn't even used this net before there we go there we go see what we got here he came to the surface this could be a good good fish I was starting to think the boat was cursed the planer off I think the boat was just testing me testing me Ancient Mariner reel I go Max's power handle and a big cat fever medium action rod little Andy monofilament nice fish nice fish like fooling to the top guys fooling to the top there he is there he is bang got him first one of hopefully many more there we go I think I've got a little bit of a tool here to help me four goodies for the new boat some rig rat fish grippers you know what I don't have I don't have a set of pliers on this boat make a note feeling up here my old rig rat fish gripper on them heck yeah we'll take it nice looking fish a rig wrap super scale that should be good to 110 pounds I'm not gonna need that right now hooking on to your holder let's see how she works heck yeah about 16 pounds take that all day first fish in the boat at least first fish since I owned it I'm happy to have that one yeah guys let's get it back alive I know glad to get a fish man I covered a lot a lot a lot of water the one thing I've seen in some parts out here is mayflies it's late man it's it's it's mid-june here we're postponed should be post mayflies but man there's mayflies all over the place so kind of is what it is the boat's uh pulling pretty good kind of got a little feel for the way it drifts and the way it trolls that's nice I don't even have an anchor on here yet let me knock this reel in the gear but I've got uh an anchor on the way never lost anchors is providing me with a really cool stainless steel anchor that they make so I'll have anchors on here we'll be doing some anchor fishing I gotta feel get a feel for how this boat fishes anchored because I'm telling you guys all boats Fish different man uh you know they anchor different troll different drift different it's a little bit of a courtship is the best way to describe it you know more good points I like nice high sides this thing feels very very safe Motors plenty of power I got all the power I need in this thing to run down the lake boom there's a fish that's a bite I thought I had a small fish on this inside planer but this Rod just went yes sir that's a fish that's a fish guys I made another run a long way up the river just to get into some different water a lot and I mean a lot of mayflies kind of odd for this time of the year not unheard of it's just probably a late hatch so not a very good bite by any means change some water change the scenery change of a part of the lake and uh Hey gave me a chance to run the boat got a uh was in a place where I had a bunch of ski boats boat was rocking back and forth got a little bubble in the airline it's just sort of gasping for gas Prime drop which is good to go that'll happen sometimes so far the fish will be of the boat it's pretty good we'll talk about all my pluses and minuses here in a second but so far this is shaping up to be a platform with a lot of options a lot of options for catching fish and for fishing a few Kinks to work out we'll talk about them I put my list together in the phone okay over there come on fishy today was a good chance that it'd get a feel for everything oh it's a good fish that's a good fish it's a good fish not a giant but a good fish thank you monster rod holders for the Hydra Webb hd80 net I love that sucker I got one on my other boat I've had it for a while sir this is the rod I thought I had a fish on a small fish I was looking at it and that's when that Rod went over we'll get to that one in the floor in a second might be doubled up here I think this one is as big nothing but cut bait today guys just decided to swing for the fence foreign you something we saw this on yesterday's guide trip I think the better bite right now is in the middle of the day it's going on one o'clock it was nothing this morning could have something to do with those mayflies I don't know sometimes it's like that in the summer it ain't no fun another good fish oh yeah nice little leader they're all good to me I just love to catch them shoot sir doubled up heck yeah we'll chunk this one get a look at this other one I was eating them it gets a knife that one goes back alive get my old fish gripper here old rig rapper come here babe old battered mail he should be on the backside of the spawn foreign looking [Music] big old long bite in not a lot of meat on him yeah there heck yeah happy to get one I'm 13 13 14 pound fish I come all day long let's get him back alive all right before I tell you about what's working and not working on the boat I got a funny story I had a guy cancel a guy trip today uh it didn't exactly break my heart I needed a day off plus I needed some time to get this boat out on the water and test out a few things he was going to come fishing his biggest fish he'd ever caught was five or six pounds he would have had both of these so not on fire fishing but you would have easily doubled your personal best twice so anyway the boat uh I'm gonna have to add a Bimini top to it I think for summertime I'm gonna need it I I like the Headroom the ability to walk around the coverage I think this enclosure uh will be great this winter uh you know it'll be great running down the lake having something to take the wind off of you I think that'll be good but I think I'm gonna have to add a Bimini top to it definitely gonna have to do that that's on my list of stuff to do uh the other thing is I got to do something with the trolling motor it uh I don't think there's an option to for extending the shaft if there is y'all let me know uh give me some feedback on it but that is a Minn Kota ultera it's probably 60 inches probably needs to be 72 is what I'm guessing so it's just you can hear it chirping in the background the top of the prop it's just barely coming out of the water so that's gonna have to be dealt with like I said I got some things uh in the works on the Rod rack mounting deal not sure exactly which way I'm going with that yet but this has given me some good ideas I really need to get out here and anchor up that's going to be my next thing I want to come set up probably do a night trip and anchor the boat up see how it sits see how it anchors see what I need to fix there because every boat anchor is different too man they drift different they drag different they anchor up different boats just sit differently in the water got to kind of figure this one out like I said it's kind of like you know dating recording you know you're you're figuring out the other person what works what doesn't work and uh you know how to make it work for you so uh those are kind of the two things big things right now the trolling motor and Bimini top other than that I'm feeling pretty good there's a little bit of tweaks here and there there's cosmetic stuff some people have asked about that why don't you just get it and redo everything I'll be honest with you guys that's not me I am not a DIY person that wants to spend six months working on a boat because by grannies it would take me that long to do it I wanted to fish I want it to work it's going to end up being a nasty mess anyway it's just because I work a boat pretty hard so there's some stuff I will take care of as needed but for me I want to get it out fishing I want to get it out shooting some videos showing you guys around and really having something for some rough water and for accommodating uh either more people or just having more room on the boat so it's great for both of those things and it kind of shows you just what some options are on the boat oh one more thing sonar unit there's I gotta I'm gonna have to do something with it I'm gonna catch some fish with it though and I here I put three fish in the boat today two in the teens uh but there's some stuff we'll go in depth on in some future videos talking about the unit and just what the limitations are it's just been a good experience for me to kind of go back in time a little bit because I have been on some better Electronics on my skiff and before I get rid of this I want to uh you know go over some things and see what its limitations are what works what doesn't work and kind of go over that with you guys so it's a good platform a lot of learning a lot of stuff to share and uh appreciate you guys watching and sticking with me guys I just literally had this board to go tight and it started fluttering and flickering I think there's a fish on it already just got those out and reset it happened that quick just getting ready to tell you some stuff about the boat and then Boom hooked up again these fish are Shallow by the way uh the stuff I was trying earlier down Lake I was a little bit deeper trying some deeper water these fish are in 14 feet of water and I think some of it may be related to this mayfly stuff that was going on so I think that maybe why they're pulled up shallower just FYI and the hottest part of the summer doesn't mean fish go deep all the time always keep that in mind I've said that before I'll say it again they don't always go deep we've got here another eater hey we'll take it we'll take it that's another blue yes oh he's barely hooked he's released hey it's like I say if you ain't weighing them or taking a picture with them the quick release is the way to go
