[Music] hey guys what's up it's joe rady from ratey's rides i'm here in brooklyn new york and it's for a very very special evening event that we have been waiting for this is it this is the 2023 nissan z but before we get into the return the refresh the renaissance that's going on with this sports car let's talk about what's going on here nissan that brand that's been building so many great models over the years is going through a renaissance of their own as a company going back to those good old days of bringing pure driving engagement and fun but also bringing style that has that future also intertwined with the past now we were already at the nissan headquarters and got to bring to you the actual z proto but we are here now in new york and it kind of has a connection to the past because guess what back in 1969 at the new york auto show is when nissan unveiled the 240z and that goes all the way back remember the model year 1970s so this 2023z has so much connection with so much in the past when it comes to the style when it comes to of course performance and like i was saying when it comes to what is nissan doing today they are really bringing a mixture of where they're going with where they have been now this car obviously being a two-door sports car is going to be going up against the main competition today that toyota supra so what i want to do is i want to show you what is new with the nissan z but i also want to talk about and compare it to that toyota super now over the years there's been other competitors as well that's been in that same price point in that same arena but things are changing with the auto industry but it's great to see nissan sticking with its roots and bringing that pure essence of a sports car so let's go ahead let's dive into this 2023 nissan z and find out is it the sports car to buy over the supra let's find out right off the bat what i love about this new z is that when we brought you the proto z the z proto the design is almost spot on when nissan said 99 connection with that proto you're seeing it here with this full street model so when we start at the front of the business you're going to get that great headlight design and not only did they take the shape of the headlight but also the way that they did the daytime running lamps those led daytime running lamps is that connection to the original 240z from 1970 so you're going to get full led lighting at the front end of the business and also at the tail end of the business now working your way down one of my favorite things about this new z is that there's nothing fake at the front and when you think about that that's pretty huge because the toyota supra has a lot of fake vents actually has probably some of the most fake vents that you're going to find on an actual sports car so in this lower corner area nice smooth aero work has been done remember all of this has been tested over the years not only with the different z's the 350z the 370z but also the mighty nissan gtr they've taken some of that recipe of success and put it into this 2023z coming across that front grill love the way it really translates into that connection with the past you're going to hear me saying that a lot and like i also said talking about the it looks just like it did when we were in tennessee so you're going to get this beautiful metallic gunmetal gray finish i love the way they did all the intricate design super clean looks modern but also has that nice touch of heritage massive front splitter and i'm so glad that what they did was they took the splitter and actually integrated it into the front fascia extends out gonna give you down force and it's going to help scoop lots of air into that front radiator area we don't want air going underneath the z because that's going to create lots of lift we want that connected driving feel now the fun thing is you're going to get three different options when you go with your 2023z sport performance and then there's a special edition which we're going to talk about which is the proto-spec trim which i can't wait to show you this but this particular one is the performance trim so you're going to be getting a little bit extra and i'm going to point that out to you as we go around it but definitely starting at the front of the business with that massive front splitter built in and a lot of you were saying i'm not so sure about the grill you need to see this car in person all of the design philosophy makes sense when you see all the attention to detail now of course you're going to get that updated upgraded nissan badge i love the way it's got the white it pops with the blue and then there's a nice rise that goes up from the nose into the hood and this is probably one of my favorite parts right here it actually v's out and then heads towards the windshield this is another connection like i said with that 240z the 260z the 280z zx all right here love that design and that nice low slung hood now as we come around the bend you're actually going to get some different wheels depending on which trim you go with now on this performance trim what are we staring at we're looking at that beautiful multi-spoke design this is that wonderful setup with the bright red calipers there that's going to give you four piston calipers with the nissan badge the bright red shining through this is a 19 inch wheel you can see with that nissan batch and it's not just about the wheel this is a raise made by the company raised forged wheel forge is going to be lighter than just your regular cast which means it's less rotating mass quicker steering we also get larger brakes and it's not just the calipers but also the rotors themselves so those are 14 inch fully ventilated rotors those nice tomato sauce bright red nissan calipers are going to clamp down on that rotor and this thing is going to shed speed like a husky sheds hair another thing that i love about it is they went through all four corners tuning the suspension to really give you that connection to the road it's not just about going fast in a straight line just like colin mcrae says fast cars are for straight roads and the twisty roads are for fast drivers you could be that driver in this new 2023 nissan z but the color especially with the particular blue that we have and i like the way they didn't leave too much gap in between the top of the tire inside of the fender and the good news is if you want to personalize your z you'll be able to do that down the road with lots of parts to make that z exactly the way unique to you but like i said the colors spot on the money the brakes what you want now coming into the fender look at that beautiful body line going down the door i'm glad they didn't do any fake vents nothing stuck on it's all in the actual design that side sill drops down and it's going to help carve the air down the side of this new z and i'm telling you the shape it's like one of those cars that you just stare at and you keep finding something new with it every single time another nice thing that you're going to see is the availability of two tones so you're going to have your solid colors to choose from but i think the smart move is to go the two-tone because not only you're gonna get the black on the mirror caps with those led turn signals nice slim and trim but we have that gloss black roof with the a pillars really gives it such a unique style and i'll be honest there was this one piece of design that until i saw it at the nissan headquarters i was like i'm not so sure if i'm going to like it but it's right here this katana blade that they actually brought into the design style of the vehicle i thought it was going to be a little too bright a little too shiny it actually really feeds into that design philosophy and we're comparing this to the supra i think you're going to love the direction that they went with the overall aesthetics compared to that other sports car but really that katana blade coming into the rear pillar love the size of that rear quarter window and as we drop down from the quarter window look at how they did the door handles this is exactly what i think many people wanted to see when they brought out the 350 and the 370z so clean especially the way everything is color matched and it almost has that coke bottle shape as you come towards the rear nice rounding of that rear fender and as we drop down you can see what we're working with at the tail in the business you're still going to get those nice solid calipers bright red those forged raised wheels remember raise is a brand that's been building performance style wheels for years and these forged wheels like i said less rotating mass stronger wheel design beautiful rear fender underneath the back you've got a mechanical limited slip diff that's going to help get the power to the ground because remember power is nothing if you can't get it to the ground that's going to help you get off those corners here's another little fun fact if you go with the six speed manual and of course i highly recommend that you do get a carbon fiber drive shaft compared to the new nine-speed automatic that's another little caveat if you go hashtag save the manuals coming to the rear that wonderful sexy fender design and then the tail lights they took from that z32 that's that 300 z 300 zx from 1990 to 1996. i love the design elements full led just like up front coming to the rear one thing that i like that they added compared to the proto z is this nice kick up rear wing nothing too aggressive nothing too boy racer but this is a piece that obviously is going to create down force and it looks drop dead sexy as well that gloss black coming from the rear of the roof area and then as we drop down there it is one simple way to explain it the z the nissan z a little bit of gloss black nothing too heavy up top but as we drop down from that z badge you can see on the performance trim that beautiful exhaust system the sport exhaust system with the rear diffuser this area is a little gloss black heavy but i think that the design elements are spot on the money but while we go ahead we talked about the outside let's pop the hood and see what's powering our 2023 z all right guys it's that moment that we've all been waiting for we have the hood popped on this 2023 nissan z there is a prop rod but the good news is it's all the way over to the driver's side but this is what you have been waiting for that is that twin turbo v6 power plant so let's talk about what's going on here you're looking at that three liter twin turbo v6 400 horsepower 350 pound-feet of torque now here's the big news the big news is is where they built the power into the rev range you're looking at torque is going to start kicking in 1600 rpm all the way up to 5600 rpm 0 to 60 they were able to shave 15 of time off the 370z 0 to 60. the great news is is thank you nissan we have the option of a six-speed manual or an all-new nine-speed automatic now remember comparing this to the supra you don't get that option plus i just want to throw out there that this nissan z is exactly exactly what you say it's a nissan z where as the toyota supra we all know the discussions with how bmw did a lot of engineering building and development of that car but you got the six-speed manual nine-speed automatic that's replacing the seven-speed automatic and like i mentioned earlier if you were paying attention you go six-speed manual you're gonna get that carbon fiber drive shaft and if you're wondering what would that do for me because i can't see it it's going to help with the overall revving of the engine and how the drive train transmits the power to the rear wheels with that mechanical limited slip diff you do have launch control there is an engine oil cooler and you do have a sport grade muffler exhaust system on the performance trim love the way when you open up the hood you're going to get a nice sexy engine cover that v6 badge of course the twin turbos having the twin turbos the way they spool up is going to help cut down on that turbo lag it's going to help give you more smooth torque delivery you have a brand new massive strut tower brace nice and thick just like the brooklyn bridge that's right down the street to stiffen up the front end of the business of course it's not just about stiffening up the front but also the rear but like i said at the end of the day nissan went through the whole chassis and suspension not to make the stiffest z ever but one that's going to give you that pure connection to the road but while we go ahead it's about that time if you're ready i'm ready let's fire up the new z [Music] all right guys we're inside this 2023 nissan z like i said three different trims to choose from this is gonna be the performance trim the sport trim is gonna be your entry level right away i know you're probably saying yourself well joe if we're comparing this to the toyota supra i want to know about price well here's the thing official pricing is re isn't released yet but expect this to be around starting 38 000 obviously depending on what trim you go with is going to add or take away from that price but the great news is if you're comparing this to the supra the supra starts for around 53 000 if you go with the 3 liter straight six turbocharged engine and that's another thing you're getting twin turbo and you're getting more horsepower in this nissan sea but let's see what else you're getting on the inside of the business for the money to the door panels love the nice clean design there's some soft touch material that gum metal gray finish on the door handle on the ac vent and then look what they did in the center section that bright blue leather and alcantara awesome suede material really brightens up the whole door panel you do have a door pocket there that is large enough for two twinkies and a bottle of yoohoo to wash it down and this has that eight speaker optional bose sound system now going from the door panel to the dash same thing soft touch material i love the leather the stitching and the blue really just makes this whole interior come alive being a nissan z and being connected with that 240 the 260 so on and so forth you're going to get your triple pod gauges up top that's going to have your boost gauge turbo speed and volt meter i like the way they just kept it analog and it looks super clean if you notice the ac vents they took that same design from the grill and brought it to the interior and working your way down this is the larger nine inch infotainment system apple carplay android auto navigation the whole shabam standard is gonna be an eight inch love the way it's integrated super clean and if you're comparing this to the supra you're definitely gonna like the way this is a cleaner fit and finish you got your ac controls down below nice little cubby area for a couple twinkies if you're racing a supra you could after you beat them throw them at twinkie as a consolation prize usbc usb look what we got that automatic rev match downshifting with the six speed manual your start stop button and this is where the magic happens this is that six-speed manual transmission with the carbon fiber drive shaft they went ahead and went through the whole gearbox nice short throws crisp engagement and i really like the way they went with a classic just round shift knob with your shift pattern right up top this material is a little bit on the harder side so i am going to zonk that but you do have your heated seats your button to pop the rear hatch two more cup holders good old-fashioned e-brake and then a nice soft armrest that if you slide it back and forward you could actually uh open it up and put i would say another eight twinkies in there and a 12 volt plus you could slide it back and forward i really like that that's nice engineering i would probably just keep it clean like this because you're not drinking in my z even though there's one cup holder here seats love the new fit and finish the blue with the leather nice bolstering you do have electric assist on the passenger side you can even adjust the seat look at this look at how i'm adjusting the seat with the switch gear nice and easy love those touches over here i'm six feet tall plenty of headroom in here get your helmet on for your track day for your autocross event coming over the business end though i want to show you this deep dish steering wheel in our new zoo guys here we are the place you want to be sitting the business end of this new 2023z i like the way they just kept it simple nice flat black on the sill panel but where they brought the business is on the triple pedal setup you have a nice bronze dead pedal clutch brake and throttle and the wonderful thing is if you want to shut off the automatic rev match downshifting heel toe downshift is going to be easy peasy lemon squeezy then it comes to the steering wheel of course tilting and telescoping and i love the way that they went with a nice classic connection to the past i know i keep saying that but this is what it's about where nissan is going and that connection with the past you got the z badge there with the horn button looking clean some gunmetal gray a little bit of gloss black but nothing too crazy nice thickness and it is that deep dish and what i mean is it actually goes inward not outward i know a lot of people probably want a flat bottom steering wheel but the size of it overall is great but look at that you want 12 inches nissan is bringing the 12 inches 12.3 inches digital display you're going to have different drive modes you could show different information which is going to open up the cornucopia of data that you can consume while you're driving your nissan z and i just love the clarity and the font of all the graphics but while we go ahead let's pop the hatch and see how much room we have plus what is going on in that cargo area of the new zealand guys one of the most important things if you're on the fence and maybe your significant other is like i'm not so sure that a z is right for our family the great news is this is a sports car but it also can be used as a perfect daily driver and the ultimate grocery getter so if you're trying to convince your significant other let them know that you will get the groceries for the rest of your life because check this out to open up the rear hatch look what they did they actually hit the button right underneath the nissan badge here you push and then one finger lift easy peasy lemon squeezy look at all the cargo space this is another thing that makes the z such a versatile vehicle is you could have your fun on your twisty bits you could go do your track day but you could also go to the grocery store get everything you need you'll notice the massive strut tower brace at the rear like i told you they did that up front as well to stiffen up the chassis front to rear but it's things like these that makes this car such a unique standout especially in a day and age when we're all going suvs we're thinking about evs and everything else this brings back that pure driving excitement but i definitely want to thank everybody with nissan usa and it really starts with alfonso dan josh
