Is the 2021 Ram TRX the performance muscle car truck that's worth it?

[Music] hey guys what's up it's joe brady from ladies rides i'm back here at the og this is the original undisclosed location for a very very good reason we have the first time ever 2021 ram trx but before we get into this raptor eating truck let's talk about what's going on here ram nobody is doing it like mopar they said they were going to bring a supercharged v8 to the ram 1500 and boy oh boy did they do it and do it in a big way now don't think that this is simply taking an engine and dropping it into a truck and calling it a day i really want to showcase all the ins and outs of all the engineering that went into this ram trx and why when it comes to off-road on-road and everything in between superiority this trx is bringing the business now the raptor has been around longer the raptor has changed over the years i know there's a lot of talk about a raptor r that's coming still we don't have all the details but many people are specul speculating the return of not only the v8 but also the supercharged v8 and it kind of makes sense since i have a supercharged v8 off-road baja edition truck sitting right behind me so let's go ahead let's find out is this ram trx more muscle car than pickup truck and is this gonna be the truck to still keep putting your money down even with some raptor r that's coming down the pipeline let's go ahead and find out with our 2021 trx right off the bat it really goes and just hits you in the face the sheer size of this vehicle starting at the front of the business you'll notice led daytime running lamps led headlights i don't even have to bend over that much to show you what's going on with those headlight housings i like the way they blacked out everything on the interior and one thing i want to point out is the functional side air curtain that's from the sheer width of those fenders so those fenders are unique to the trx you're going to get the nice flat black on that fender flare look at the way they did the lighting looks really great really clean and then as we kind of drop down to showcase that you're going to get of course functional fog lamps and then you're getting you hear that that's the sound of metal lots of steel lots of aluminum lots of metal on this trx bow bumpers front and rear of course are going to be full metal bumpers you got massive tow hooks this is going to allow you to drag those raptors out of the sand out of the mud when they get stuck and as we come across what you're looking at is 11.8 inches of ground clearance of course you're gonna get full underbody protection from all the skid plates and they do it very smart it's a shingle style so what that does is it's not gonna scoop up all the dirt rocks and everything that you're going over it's gonna allow that to drift out but it's also going to allow that protection of all the inner bits you have functional flat black grilling on the bottom portion and then like i said 11.8 inches and that metal protection ow that hurts curves all the way underneath you're gonna of course get a forward-facing camera i like the way they went gun metal gray on the ram badge and they also took a page from chevrolet with the flow tie off the camaro this is that flow style design to show the ram badging but allow as much air that could possibly sneak past that in the center section and up top very very aggressive that extra width of course is gonna mean some additional lighting which i'm gonna show you where they hit it so smartly now when you get up onto the hood we have a full functional scoop of course if we're talking muscle car and muscle car power we'll talk about a bulge so you're gonna get your bulge 10 fold on this ram trx every everybody wants a bulge whether it's on your muscle car or on this muscle truck you can see the additional lighting this is required by the d.o.t because of the width it actually falls in a different class of truck rather than a standard full-size pickup truck you're also going to notice how with that bulge they do such a great job bringing some flat black into the functional venting those are those heat extractors to drag the heat out and up top yes we're talking about 6.2 liters of supercharged goodness that is the hellcat engine but they did make some tweaks specific to baja off-road duty now when we come around the bend what are we looking at you're going to get these unique to the trx 18 inch wheels so 18 inch wheel nice gun metal gray color looking great with our white trx those are 35 inch off-road tires those goodyear wrangler territory all terrain tires really going to allow you to grip and stick no matter what the terrain is doing and then i'm going to have lori kind of show off the suspension all of that amazing wheel travel you got the reinforced everything's being been reinforced the frame you got beefy control arms and we're also running bilstein dampers those adaptive dampers all four corners are gonna allow you to have the perfect amount of compression and rebound depending on if you're on sand if you're in snow mud rock crawling or asphalt and i'm telling you right now this thing has launch control wait until i show you the asphalt performance let alone the off-road performance now as we come down the fender you can just see that bulge how everything drops down to nice step formation i'm going to have lori kind of swing around and show the back side of the fender as that air is going to pass from the front to the back side of the fender and then down the side of the vehicle sexy sexy fender flares absolutely love it now on the mirrors you're going to have a nice simple flat black i don't mind it especially with this being an off-road truck you got your ram badging trx specific ram running boards these are stationary running boards i like the way it mimics the design of the heat extractor a little bit color match on the door handles and like i said you're getting that four-door flexibility usability because you could use this truck don't let a supercharged v8 scare you for daily use you could use this as your daily work truck if you wanted to now as we come towards the rear you'll notice that bilstein active so it's going to be reading the terrain every nanosecond and i love the way nice bright silver with the trx badging this was a combination work effort between bilstein and ram and the trx of course there's that style wheel that nice flat gun metal gray black color looking really tough looking really slick and then as we come around the back you even have that nice fender flare now i'm gonna zonk it we're gonna have to zonk this area back here this is a fake vent so we're gonna zonk this fake vent but it really clearly shows just how far that rear fender is flared out clean job on the tail lights your trx badge the ram badge across the back of course you're going to have your backward facing camera that reverse camera love the way they did the exhaust nice lash cut this is muscle car right here this is something that you would see on an old school challenger or charger like that slash cut massive opening of course you're going to get the tow hooks out back metal rear bumper you got your full tow capability all that ground clearance and of course the this is four by four i'm going to open up the back look at that nice soft release of course we have the optional tonneau cover in place but you got plenty of room and you can keep whatever you want in the back nice and safe you got led lighting the whole rail system your tie down locations and another thing i want to show you is this is so light that rear tailgate look at this one finger getting some reps in right now one two three but why don't we go ahead let's pop that power bulge hood and see the supercharged power underneath it all right guys we got the massive hood open with that bulge you do have hydraulic hood trust to hold it up i want to showcase at the back part of the hood you can see where it says ram airflow you have two squarish openings two rectangle size openings when the hood closes that's going to force feed the air into this area back here now you're probably saying well joe what is this engine cover this is ugly you're going to zonk it not so much and i'll show you why so you got the trx badge here this cover is removable we're just going to take it just get it right out of here what i want to show you though is look at the little easter egg there is a t-rex with a raptor in its mouth dead little touches like that that i love about mopar and i definitely love about ram now i know you're probably still saying well joe i still can't see the engine where is it lori is going to take you on a little journey and show you that engine you're also going to be able to see the extra bracing so you can see the super charge 6.2 liter there and of course when we're talking about a hellcat engine we're talking about over 700 horsepower now like i told you earlier this is tuned specifically for off-road duty so you're looking at 702 horsepower 650 pound-feet of torque it is mated to the torque flight eight-speed automatic transmission here's the crazy thing guys this truck weighs 6866 pounds it could do zero to 60 and 3.7 seconds it does have launch control quarter mile is going to zoom by at 12.3 at 110 miles an hour top speed is governed to 118 miles per hour now if you're wondering well joe what about towing i use my truck for towing on average you're looking at eight thousand one hundred pounds when properly equipped up to twelve thousand seven hundred fifty pounds toe rating and if you're wondering about mpgs you're watching the wrong video i will show you a uh maybe a honda ridgeline or a little four cylinder tacoma but this thing mpgs 10 in the city 14 on the highway you have of course all that great suspension technology and when we're talking about wheel travel you're looking at 13 inches of wheel travel here's the bracing i was telling you about it's not just about putting a v8 supercharged engine in here it's about doing all the proper engineering but i do like the way you can see the hellcat back there hey kitty kitty that's going to cause a lot of worry for those raptors and the raptor owners but while we go ahead let's fire up this muscle of a truck and hear what it sounds all right guys we're inside this 2021 ram trx i know you're at that point where you're like joe this thing is one bad mama jama i'm not even sure if i can fit this in my driveway let alone my garage but i want one i like that power bulge i like supercharged power this thing looks like it could drive through anything including a raptor how much is it msrp this one does have the tr-2 package which comes with a lot of niceties you're basically looking at 87 dollars let's see what you get for the money to the door panels absolutely love the style you're gonna get some of the best truck interiors in the industry you got the leather up top with the contrast stitching that's real carbon fiber i watched ram make it myself harman kardon sound system all the switch gear nicely done and then of course you're going to get pockets you have a nice taco pocket up top in the middle there and then dropping down you easily can get i would say four whoppers in that bottom door pocket and not only one but two bottles of mountain dew to wash it all down and you're getting alcantara material that microfiber suede material very very classy nice touches now when you go from the door panel to the dash this has the optional leather around that oh crap handle for your passenger the nice soft material the stitch work carbon fiber with the trx badge and watch this boom twinkie tray this is the official ram twinkie tray you can literally put about 28 twinkies in here and you're not going to squirt cream anywhere and it's got felt lining so you're not gonna scratch your twinkie because no guy wants his twinkie scratch that's for sure close that up the carbon fiber and then this is where really ram earns its keep you're gonna have a skittles tray up top with the ram badging a 12 volt for that radar detector and i highly recommend getting one with this truck you got your 12 inches yes 12 inches of visual pleasure that vertical style it works in this truck normally i don't like this kind of setup but it works in the ram trx or any ram 1500 with this screen set up because i love the way it's integrated into the dash you can see you got your different modes tow snow we're going sport that's going to unlock everything red means race and we're ready to rock and roll you got your different modes on the side for mud sand rock and baja and then watch this you want cameras we got cameras out the front which trajectory the 360. you could go every which way and i love the system in the ram because it's very intuitive very very easy to use watch this i'm going to go ahead and hit climate you got all your climate controls we got ventilated seats heated seats sirius xm apple carplay android auto and full navigation with a ram trx there that's what i'm talking about style that's what i'm talking about the little touches i love this brushed aluminum style finish you got more carbon fiber of course a bright red engine start stop button we got the trx mode selectors over here to go into your different performance setups we have our four-wheel drive remember we got electronic limited slip diff and we have launch control yes on an off-road pickup truck get ready for that we drop down what do we have we have a little cubby here for jolly ranchers all the connectivity more connectivity than radio shack or circuit city ever had you got wireless charging plenty of cubby space down here you could just have a field day with all the things that you could put down here on the side we got a very very slim holder but you know what what you could put in here are some of those costco churros love the stitching we got two cup holders with carbon fibers so look at this you got carbon fiber you could touch open that two cup holders this is going to control that torque flight eight speed automatic transmission more alcantara trx badge here with the vin number the leather wonderful finishes and then watch this whoa look at that that's a dream golden brown and delicious look how many you can put in there really nicely done and then look at that we picked this up i'll get the trash out of here you got another 12 volt and you could easily put i'd say a football and a softball now that football that you have signed that's where you're going to put that in there you know really just keep the memories alive and drive around and we have the periodic table so if you failed science look at that you got everything here and the football signed by tom brady so you can put that all in there go bucks and then the seats leather the trx embroidery very comfortable very supportive the alcantara of course full electric assist for the passenger and the driver the one thing is that if you look up there's no sunroof to speak of let me know what you think about that if that should be a zonk put it in the comments section but why don't you come over the business end because i want to show you behind the wheel of this ram trx alright guys we're behind this leather alcatera and carbon fiber steering wheel in the ram trx you do have two memory seat settings and it's really easy to get to those seat controls the lower lumbar feels really good i'm swimming in space in here remember i'm six feet tall plenty of room let me show off that key fob we have the red key fob locks unlocks all 702 horsepower digging the finishes and then of course you got the buttons on the back i highly recommend doing remote start because it's got a bark on cold start that will just really raise the hair on the back your neck and i like those kinds of touches talk about touches we do have some technology so you have your standard rear view mirror right there i am hey guys watch this boom it's also a digital rear view mirror i like the technology like that in this truck there's that steering wheel i was telling you about the leather the alcantara the carbon fiber even the way they did like a dark chrome finish on the ram logo it looks perfect and it's ready to lock horns with you of course we have a tilting and telescoping steering wheel and i do like the way they did the paddles this is how the paddle should be on the challengers the chargers the durangos that's how it should be set up you have room up top and down below tilting the wheel is real simple it is manual tilt and then there is your dash you're going to get a nice blending of analog and digital readouts it's a little busy for me but i'm starting to appreciate it more and more the longer i'm behind the wheel this truck you'll notice in the center there i could scroll through a cornucopia of information and i love the graphics all the readouts super duper clear you got your different modes look at that toe snow look at it going through the snow auto of course custom mud sand and then yes you could do rock crawling and you could also enter the baja 500 and you'll probably come home for with a win very nice touches like that and a head up display so they got you covered when it comes to readouts and information but why don't we go ahead let's get to the back seat and see how your passengers are going to enjoy you doing launch control in this ram trx all right guys come on into the back seat area this freaking backseat of this truck has more room than my college dorm room had back when i was in college but what's wonderful about this truck is you got plenty of space to share the experience and it's a crazy experience with your passengers but you could also use it for all those day-to-day uses that you have you hit the latch you pick up the seat obviously this seat will fold up that gives you plenty of storage space plenty of room and it's easy to use which i like the backs of the seats all that leather you do have a it's a small type pocket so maybe just a back scratcher or an abacus but you have all these other areas to attach things and they even put alcantara on the back of the seat sliding over you've got a command center that should have been in the starship enterprise you got your rear ac of course we have an atomic fireball holder you do have heated and ventilated seats i'm going to turn those on nice usbcs usbs and a home power source so they got you covered there really nice touches unbelievable room like i was telling you you got plenty of room here you got your oh crap panels that are also wrapped in leather for the backseat passengers as you're going off-road that's what this would look like like that plenty of headroom and then yes we pull this guy down boom more alcantara two cup holders they're on the smaller side but you do have cup holders in the door panels and look at this open that up now you could put your skittles back here you won't rub off the colors or anything because there's some felt lining boom boom if you're ready i'm ready let's go on throttle in the 702 horsepower pickup truck all right guys we're inside the 2021 trx i have it in sport mode we're gonna do launch control here we go throttle yeah that supercharged v8 golly this thing is a beast and then the great news is you got those 15-inch rotors that are gonna slow down and shed that speed we got the bilstein dampers reading the pavement this isn't a corner carver but we're using it right now as one nice shifts from the torque flight eight-speed automatic and i'm telling you even with the off-road tires this thing actually handles well for the type of vehicle that it is and the fact that it has launch control and 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds check mark for muscle car muscle car power muscle car bulge and giving you that muscle car excitement and then on top of that you could take it down your favorite off-road trails rock crawling baja whatever you want but you know how we do it all right here we go ah this thing is a beast great throttle sensitivity i do have it in sport mode like i said you could adjust it any different which way but we're gonna do launch control again from a dead stop why not right launch control activated apply brake with left foot throttle release here we go nice pass shifts ah look at this thing now let's talk about the drivability of it comfortable seating just like any other ram 1500 the visibility is awesome of course you're getting that supercharger wine it's a ton of fun and just really nobody the more time i spend in ram pickup trucks the more i appreciate this interior i get why this ram 1500 was trunk of the year north american truck of the year because it is just unbelievable the finishes the quality the fit the finish pothole here we go that eight speed shifts great on the brakes of course we got somebody riding their bike in the middle of the street here we go wow wow wow wow wow wow look at this great sound great drivability it really is the ultimate and you're comparing this to a current gen raptor even the 2021 ha ha ha ha ha ha hey we're in a trx let's do it arthritis here we go yeah oh my god look at this thing suspension travel oh my god you guys this thing is just ridiculous look at this look at this wow it just puts so much fun into just what being a car enthusiast is all about i mean this is what it is driving this truck wow look at this whoa i mean you can handle anything with this truck this is nothing but it is fun i know that here we go here we go we're doing some donuts in the dirt yeah wow wow wow wow now that was fun that was a lot of fun i think i need to do that just one more time just one more time here we go yeah whoa look at this thing [Music] who says you can't do donuts in the dirt look at this i can't even i can't even see where i'm going wow but that's what's awesome is that you know what you got that ram air hood scoop it's designed to do this kind of work and you're not going to be able to lose the performance wow let's put it back into sport mode and get the heck out of here i throw here we go it does it all wow i gotta i gotta take a breath i gotta take a breather here my heart is pounding from all the enjoyment it's a muscle car truck man dodge is doing it ram is doing it jeep is doing it all right guys one more time activating the launch control here we go i'm thrilling look at this those bilstein dampers doing their thing on road and off-road on the brakes feels phenomenal great pedal feedback this left-hand bend yeah that supercharger wine unbelievable on freaking believable [Music] i am so glad that i was able to share this one with you we got to get back to where it all began because i know ram wants their trx back so i'll see in a split second it's been another magical mopar day here on radies rides i definitely gotta thank kimberly and the whole crew not only at truck enthusiasts that want to bring the utmost in performance style and everything else to you i think definitely this is more muscle car than it is pickup truck and really if you're looking at the current raptor this thing is going to trump it but it's going to be interesting because remember competition improves the breed for everybody but if you want to keep seeing trucks that have big old
