[Music] this is the Kindle scribe and after using it for about a month I can confidently say that it's helped me a lot with journaling more and never thought I'd say this but I've been enjoying the process of writing more especially with this device everyone's aware of the Kindle brand from Amazon but Kindle scribe definitely stands out from the rest of its lineup due to its huge screen size I bought the 16 GB bundle with the premium pen and you have the option to go up to 64 GB but I didn't feel like I need that much storage for my usage I'll also get more into the pen later but I would definitely recommend getting the premium pen over the basic pen for about $30 the Eraser feature has come in really handy more often than not like I mentioned Kindle scribe has a huge display compared to the other Kindles it has a 10.2 in in ink display that can get very bright if needed in daylight and I personally have had zero issues with the quality of the screen so far I will say it's one of those things where I feel like I can't go back to reading on the smaller Kindles especially after getting used to this bigger size it has an auto brightness feature which works well during the day but I usually end up adjusting manually at night to ensure that it's not too bright on my eyes it also has an adjustable warmth feature which makes it easier on the eyes especially at night this can be scheduled to be turned on and off or be automatic depending on the sunset or Sunrise I personally read mostly at night so I find myself needing the screen to be as dim as possible so I crank the screen brightness down to one and turn on the dark mode which inverts the Black and Whites and it seems to hit the perfect spot for me especially in Pitch Black situations I know that it has an autoc screen on and off feature based on the compatible cases but since I don't have a case on it I've noticed that it takes Solid 3 to 5 Seconds when I want to turn it on from its idle state which could get a little bit annoying at times but it's really not a deal breaker for me as you can see here it's got a pretty big notch on the left side of the tablet which is about an inch and a half thick and I'm still not sure if I'm completely sold on it from the design perspective but it has come in handy from time to time when holding the Kindle for writing or reading purposes it allows me to hold a tablet with one hand without actually having to touch the screen and it actually comes in very handy when you're holding the tablet with one hand and using the other hand to sketch or take notes without a surface looking at the outside of the device it has a power button and also a USBC port on the left side of the tablet and that's about it there's nothing else on the sides of the tablet which keeps the device very clean and minimal on the back of the tablet you'll find the Amazon logo as well as four little knobs on each Corner that helps it from not sliding around for someone like me who uses it without a case it's one of those design features that's very practical and useful for my day-to-day usage you can also magnetically attach your pen on the right side of the tablet and since the pen doesn't need charging it's just used as a place to store your pen speaking of the pen let's talk about what you're probably most curious about which is using the pen and the writing experience on the Kindle scribe as I mentioned earlier I really wanted to get my first eink tablet mostly for two purposes which was reading and journaling I was leing towards a remarkable two tablet in the beginning of my research since it has a more modern and Sleek design in my opinion and I don't know about you guys but I saw ads for that tablet everywhere so you can definitely say I was influenced a little bit there what made me actually pivot away from remarkable 2 was the fact that I read most of my books on Kindle and there weren't any easy ways to convert your Kindle books on remarkable 2 I think there are some workarounds to get your Kindle books on remarkable 2 too but this made me realize that I just really need a Kindle that I could write on and Kindle scribe was honestly the perfect fit for me once I decided to go with the Kindle scribe my only concern left with buying an eink tablet was the lag with the writing experience I was definitely skeptical and while it may not be as responsive as writing on an iPad with promotion display or maybe other eink tablets I think the matte texture of the eink screen really gets close to writing on a piece of paper I sometimes notice the lag when writing here and there but I actually really enjoy the writing experience enough that it's actually making me Journal more often when it comes to writing there are a few pen options you can choose from and also some of them support touch sensitivity so for example the pencil option will react based on how hard you're pushing down on a tablet with your pen I'm currently loving the fountain pen option which makes my handwriting look much nicer than it actually is whereas using a regular pen or marker option it really reveals is my true handwriting ever since its initial release there have been many software updates to enhance your notet taking experience on the Kindle scribe such as being able to write and add notes next to text like an actual physical book but that's only available on very few select books so I personally would have utilized this way more if it allowed me to write on more non-fiction and fiction books good news here is that this is something that can be added with software updates so I'm hoping that Amazon can add to the Kindle scribe in the very near future you can also convert your notes into PDFs via email which allows for easy sharing as well as exporting but I really wish Amazon allowed for cloud access for all my notes here this is probably the biggest flaw of the Kindle scribe in my eyes since I would like to be able to access all my notes and journals especially through the cloud without having to actually have the Kindle scribe physically with me these are great features and updates for people who are looking to integrate their Kindle scribe more into their everyday workflow but for someone like me who's looking to use the Kindle scribe for mostly journaling and take simple notes I'm just glad that it has a pretty decent file management system you have the ability to create subfolders meaning folders within folders to help with your organizing and this makes it very easy to organize my journals by month and year and it helps with feeling like I'm actually managing a notebook with pages and dividers as I briefly mentioned earlier the pen doesn't need to be charged separately or it doesn't require any specific setup with the tablet so you're able to just start scribbling and writing on the tablet and it'll just work I was a little bit skeptical with paying a little bit more to buy the premium pen over the basic pen just to have the Eraser at the end of the pen but having the ability to simply just flip the pen while you're writing and start erasing without pressing any button is pretty convenient lastly the pen also has a shortcut button at the front that you can configure to a few different options options including different pen types that we mentioned earlier sticky notes eraser and highlighter which is the one I currently have it set as I did some research on what kind of cases or portfolios are out there and there are some options but the only one that I really liked was the Amazon portfolio case but I really wasn't going to pay about $60 to $70 for case on my Kindle scribe and after using it without a case for a while I felt like I could get by without one and also o didn't want to add any weight to the already somewhat heavy Kindle yes so the term heavy here is very relative compared to other regular tablets Kindle scribe is very light it only weighs about a pound but compared to all the other Kindles in the lineup that I'm used to it weighs about three times more so you can definitely feel the difference when you're holding it for a long period of time not saying it's uncomfortable to hold by any means but if you like holding your Kindle with one hand or in weird positions when you're in bed and reading it could definitely get a little bit annoying all that to say although I don't have a case I would highly recommend that you get a case if you get the Kindle scribe talking about my old Kindles I want to quickly mention the trade program where you can trade in your old Kindles for a 20% off on a new Kindle that you buy so for example if you're trying to buy a Kindle scribe you can trade in your old Kindle whichever model it may be and you can get 20% off I was able to pick up this Kindle scribe for about $300 with the premium pen so if you do have an older Kindle whichever model it may be and you're looking to upgrade to for example Kindle scribe I'd definitely highly recommend looking into the tradein program lastly I want to quickly talk about the battery life so if you've ever owned any older Kindles you'll know that this Kindle scribe can last a long time so I've had this Kindle for about a month and I've used it pretty frequently and the battery life is is still sitting at around 65% and I haven't had to charge it once as I mentioned throughout the video I didn't pick up kindle scribe to integrate it into my everyday workflow I just wanted a tablet that I could read my Kindle books on but also to be able to journal on there are definitely different eink tablets for you out there if you're looking for specific and dedicated features for note taking specifically such as remarkable 2 or even supernote X but if you're in a similar position to me or or if you're in the market for a tablet that can seamlessly integrate with your Kindle books and just need a tablet to write simple notes on I'd highly recommend looking into the Kindle scribe especially if you already own an older Kindle and take advantage of that 20% discount by training it in anyway thank you so much for watching this video and I'll catch you in the next one
