Hawaiian Airlines is saying Aloha to their brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and we're on board to try out economy and first class back toback find out if it's worth a Splurge for your next trip to Hawaii hello jet Setters I'm Jeb Brooks from Greener grass.com this is hawaiian's brand new Dreamliner and you're coming along here's the plan we want to check out the entire plane so we'll leave San Francisco and fly to Honolulu in the main cabin spend a few days enjoying the Hawaiian Sun and then return back to San Francisco In First Class Hawaiian operates out of the International Terminal A at SFO and we checked in having reserved window and aisle seats in the hope that the middle might stay empty our tickets did not include checked bags so we paid $30 each because we both had a checked bag all checked in and ready to check out economy so let's make our way through security and get this journey started Hawaii here we come what's with the shirt where's the Plaid well you had such strong condemnations uh for the last shirt I wore to Hawaii I decided to invest in the real thing for this trip as did you I think we look pretty good Aloha we'll be leaving here in just a few minutes making our way over to Honolulu in hawaiian's extra Comfort Seats cannot wait to check this out and share it with you extra Comfort is hawaiian's domestic premium economy offering and includes extra leg room and priority boarding but we'll also check out the standard economy seats on board Hawaiian Airlines adding the 787 to their Fleet is a huge deal traditionally they've just operated a330s in terms of wide-bodied Long Haul aircraft Will adding the Dreamliner to the fleet open up new destinations for him let us know in the comments below for now let's board this bird next stop Honolulu first impressions of this cabin are great I mean the colors and finishes are fresh bright and tropical now I want an airline to get me in the mood for the place it represents and hawaiian's interior does just that all 266 seats in the main C including the ones in extra Comfort have a sturdy tray table and bright crisp ifv screen you'll find two USB power sources including USBC and a headphone jack under the screen above there are no air vents and the lights are controlled by the touch screens something a lot of passengers seem to struggle with there's also a seatback pocket and we had no problem fitting our large backpacks under here we also had access to power it's time for the greener grass tape measure let's check out this extra Comfort seat 15 1/2 in here 35 in of pitch and the width is 18 1/2 in this is really a comfortable seat there are 79 of these extra Comfort Seats in the Dreamliner the standard economy seats offer 11 in of knee room and 31 in of pitch the width of course is the same all that's to say you'll get four more in of space and extra comfort and we'll show you exactly what we paid for the extra space in just a bit it's also worth saying extra comfort includes priority boarding and security screening remember our plan to save the middle seat Well the flight was completely full seat strategy was a fail but that's okay with me cuz it means I get to sit closer to Suzanne and I get to sleep on your shoulder all flight long flight time today is 4 hours 39 minutes now there's no Wi-Fi on board so thank goodness these screens are nice big bright ones with what appears to be a lot of selections but we'll check that out once we're in the air and that's exactly where we're heading we have a short t ta out to the runway with a few exciting things to see along the way before we're on our way to [Music] Paradise with the news that United is dumping hemispheres Hawaiian is the last remaining us carrier with a magazine and that's where you'll find the Buy on board options the crew dimmed the windows in the cabin to about 50% shortly after departure but mercifully unlike other carriers passengers are still able to control their own individual Windows now I found 50% to be about the right amount you can still see out but the light wasn't blinding me or anyone else the screens were as I mentioned bright and offered plenty of selections I was never bored on board even on the return flight the map feature was also strong I particularly liked the Pilot's heads up display view as you'd expect there's nothing in particular to write home about when it comes to the lavatories well unless you're dressed like me camouflage service began 15 minutes after takeoff with the Buy on board offerings we bought this bag of tarot chips for $8.50 and a bottle of water for five bucks mostly because it was reusable and covered with Hawaiian Airlines branding this bottle of water is going to be perfect for our upcoming Alaska Airlines flight after the crew had passed through with the cart loaded down with items for sale they came by again but this time with no expectation of payment this is so nice Hawaiian Airlines must be one of the only airlines in the United States now offering free complimentary hot meals on flights from North America to Hawaii this sausage egg and cheese English muffin was not the most delicious thing I've ever eaten in my life but I do appreciate the effort on the part of Hawaiian it's really good to see in this day and age the economy cabin is generally laid out in a 333 configuration but there are also several rows like this that offer ideal seating for Honeymooners in fact I might even take those over extra Comfort after breakfast I settled in and the time quite literally flew by but what's it like up front we're about to find out first though our tickets in economy from San Francisco to Honolulu cost us each about $200 we then paid another 00 $123 each to upgrade to extra comfort and as you know an additional $30 each for our check bags bringing the total to $353 we're just beginning our descent into Honolulu and the seat has been really comfortable it's well padded I certainly hope it stands the test of time uh the inflate entertainment has been a little finicky cutting out a few times I've had to kind of skip through it and and and lost some audio uh but generally this is a really comfortable way to cross half the Pacific Ocean and beyond for that matter maybe one day uh but let's uh get on the ground check out Hawaii and then head up front well I really enjoyed that flight on the brand new Dreamliner I thought that was a really comfortable seat but what did you think Suzanne it is a beautiful airplane what a game changer for Hawaiian we're going to go enjoy a few days here in Hawaii before heading right back but this time in first class back to San Francisco so see you in a bit people often ask us if we get spend any time in the places we fly to or do we literally just fly there and then fly back well we are lucky enough to definitely spend a couple days here in aahu and how could you not spend some time in Hawaii it is so beautiful can't wait till our next trip maybe explore a couple other Islands but for now let's check out first class on Hawaiian Airlines leaving Hawaii is always such a bummer I'm really sorry to say goodbye yeah but being able to check out this brand new first class cabin makes a little easier it certainly does we're filming this in miday and currently Hawaiian has two 78 sevens that are active and 10 more on order that's very exciting for them it's currently flying to San Francisco but soon it'll be flying to LA and Phoenix as well and who knows after that could be the East Coast could be Asia Pacific very exciting possibilities with a few minutes still to go before boarding we decided to check out the premiere Lounge thanks to our domestic first class tickets now this fairly basic Lounge is not as nice as the one Hawaiian reserves for International Business class passengers we were however grateful for the coffee and the snacks but we didn't stay too long there's always something happening here [Music] so Jeb has pretty strong feelings about the A330 so I think he's kind of psyched that Hawaiian has the Dreamliner and not the A330 Neo is that true that is very true I know that I have some friends out there who think the A330 is a fantastic airplane and it is from a capability standpoint it can do a lot but it's just it's aesthetically not my favorite so the Dreamliner to me is a more attractive airplane let's face it um rout planners Revenue managers all those Airline Executives don't really care about how an airplane looks they care about what it does which is why the A330 has been so massively successful for Hawaiian and others but for me I just think that Dreamliner looks so good it's a good look and bird wow the inevitable finally happened it was time to leave Hawaii but we were excited to be turning left on this leg next stop San Francisco once on board I was struck by the 34 enclosed tweets the extra surface area in here gives Hawaiian Airlines even more space to highlight the textures of the islands it's impossible not to find yourself in here with a sense of the unique and special place that Hawaii is I was in seat 8A and Suzanne was just in front of me in 7A now couples who don't have to film YouTube videos which require window views might prefer the seats in the center they have dividers that can be lowered to allow for conversation back in my seat there's a pillow and blanket you'll find more leg room than you'll know what to do with along with everything you could expect from a seat a reading light storage a mirror headphones power a remote even wireless charging they seem to have thought of it all my tie a flight attendant passed around menus which had two choices for the main course Hawaiian a330s are arranged in a 222 configuration which is great for couples traveling to Hawaii but this new 121 configuration on the Dreamliner that's great option for solo Travelers this seat is so welld designed very comfortable everything exactly where you'd expect it to be of course but what I like most about well the whole aircraft this cabin and the economy cabin for that matter too is how it reflects Hawaii there are color choices and finishes that really make it highlight a lot of the wonderful things about the islands here the Jet Bridge pulled away the safety video played and we made our way out to honolulu's Reef Runway Hawaii had one more show for us always try to sit on the left side when you're departing here it's not a guarantee but you're often rewarded with spectacular views like these [Music] with Oahu firmly in our rear viw mirror I settled back into the familiar inflight entertainment but this time on a much larger screen 18 1/2 in diagonally this thing's huge I pulled out the tray table and tried on the headphones which Hawaiian allows passengers to borrow while on board I ended up preferring my own I also found the remote to be easier to use to drive the if because the screen was just so far away from me but from there I raised up the armrest dimmed the window just a bit lean back and got really comfortable starting service with an oldfashioned and macadamia nuts not too bad when it came time for lunch Suzanne and I both chose the curried brazed beef brisket which was well prepared tasty and juicy but I was most impressed by the grilled papaya salad that was also on the tray I love when Airlines find ways to highlight the uh places they serve on their meal trays and this salt and pepper uh container is a perfect example of that here with Hawaiian I love this uh Hawaiian shirt that's so cool and the rainbow cake for dessert was light and tasty too the island flare is all over the plane perhaps nowhere more more so than in this entryway the first place most passengers will see when they board there's plenty of wood paneling here creative lighting even flowers also the ceiling has stars which Hawaiian Airlines says are a way to recall the ways ancient Polynesians navigated across the Pacific how cool is that but back in my own seat I closed the door to try the layf flat bed this bed has a lot of shoulder room it's really comfortable at the top uh unfortunately the footwell is well it's just really tight you know I think this is going to be a reasonably comfortable way to uh have a long haul overnight rede flight the footwell is is is probably the only challenge I've seen yet so far with this seat it's worth saying Suzanne didn't have the same challenge I did in the footwell as the sun sets it's time for the Jeb score now as a reminder we only rate first in business class experiences so that's the focus this time too we'll look at the Lounge the seat the food the inflight entertainment and the service first the lounge for domestic first class passengers is nice it's extremely basic though that said it's pretty rare to get access to any lounge with a domestic first class ticket alone you can do it with Alaska Airlines but only if your flight is more than 2,000 M but without views or any real food to speak of Hawaiian earns two stars here the seat is on par with every other us international business class cabin except maybe the most massive Delta 1 Suite out there this seat is five stars all day long the food in business class was nice now only having two choices is not quite industry-leading but it was good and did a great job of representing Hawaii four stars here the if offered plenty of choices and thankfully wasn't as finicky as on the first leg the screen's large bright and crisp I'll give this five stars the cruise on both legs fantastic this is really where Hawaiian Airlines shines I can't believe how proactive they were now I know I said I'm only rating the first class crew and I am but I have to say the folks in economy were up in the aisles every 15 or 20 minutes offering water it was great five stars for sure we each paid about $900 to sit in first class on this leg it's more than 2 and 1 half times the price of extra Comfort on the way to Hawaii I'm not so sure it's necessary on a 5-hour daytime flight but on a red eyee a live flat seat becomes a lot more attractive but what do you think is it worth it Hawaiian Airlines new Dreamliner service from Honolulu to San Francisco earns 21 out of 25 possible Stars between now and the next time see in the sky we'll be leaving here in just a few minutes flying in you ready to go to Hawaii who's not absolutely let's go now we're flying out of San Francisco all the way to uh walking through uh the airport and randomly see good friend of mine and if you've been watching the channel for a while this is a deep cut he's appeared before uh here's your hint where are you headed from here in H I will be heading to Sydney uh with Haan Airlines flight ha451 I hope well enjoy it there's your hint if you know who this is leave a comment below you got to keep your eye on the uh got to keep your eye on the you got to keep your
