sometimes when people pass away the question is asked what is the appropriate thing to do with the body of the deceased is cremation condemned from God is there a consequence in eternity because of cremation being chosen over a physical burial of a body to answer this question let's look to the Bible first of all for what our body is really is in Genesis chapter 3 when God was speaking to the man Adam he said in verse 19 by the sweat of your face you will eat bread till you return to the ground because from it you were taken for you are dust and to dust you shall return of course this is referring to when God formed into a man the dust of the earth and the Bible says breathed into him the breath of life so he says to Adam you were taken from dust and to dust you shall return later on in Genesis chapter 18 verse 27 Abraham was speaking and he replied and said now behold I have ventured to speak to the Lord although I am but dust and ashes Psalm 103 verse 14 says of God for he himself knows our frame he is mindful that we are but dust and ashes we are just but dust it says so the Bible is clear that this earthly body came from the dust of the earth and upon dying we will return to the dust of the earth sometimes described as dust and ashes that's all we are given a living soul by God himself in fact in Ecclesiastes chapter 12 it says in verse 5 for man goes into his eternal home while mourners go about in the street so it says while we are a part of the funeral or the funeral procession the soul of a person has gone to their eternal home verse 7 says then the dust will return to the earth as it was and the spirit will return to God who gave it so what happens is that our soul our eternal soul upon dying goes to our eternal home if we know the Lord Jesus that is heaven if we do not that is torment in hell what happens to our body our earthly body is that it returns to the dust of the earth that's what the Bible says well mourners go about in the street our soul has gone to our eternal home while our earthly body returns to the dust from where it came from and then the question comes then what happens at the bodily resurrection at the second coming of Jesus that the Bible talks about if our soul goes to heaven or hell and our body turns back to the dust from which we were created what happens and where does the body come from that the Bible describes as a bodily resurrection that is answered in Philippians chapter 3 and verse 20 the Bible says for our citizenship is in heaven from which also we eagerly wait for a savior the Lord Jesus Christ this is talking to believers in the Lord Jesus Jesus who verse 21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity or to be like the body of his glory by the exertion of the power that he has even to subject all things to himself so it says that for believers in the Lord Jesus there will come a time that we are eagerly awaiting our eternal body to be transformed into conformity or like the body of the Lord Jesus when he was resurrected so the question now comes what body is it talking about if our earthly body returns to the dust from which it came but the Bible says there will be a bodily resurrection what is that body and where does it come from and does cremation matter to whether or not that body will be resurrected and in addition to cremation if we are burned to ashes then where does God get the body but in addition to that we can also ask other questions that come to our mind what about bodies that had earthly deformities if that body is necessary for our Second Coming res rection then are we resurrected exactly as we were with the deformity what if we sustained a tragic injury and lost a limb what about amputees what about organ donors what about martyrs that is some are listed in the Bible that have been burned to death or decapitated or otherwise what happens to their bodies because there's a lot of situations in the world where our earthly bodies are far less than perfect or far less than complete the answer to that is found in 1st Corinthians chapter 15 so we're answering the question what kind of body are we resurrected width and the question is not the first time it has been asked it's been being asked for a long time 1st Corinthians 15 35 it says someone will say and they do say that now how are the dead raised and with what kind of body do they come and then the Bible leads us later in the same chapter in verse 50 this is a very important part to understand now I say this brethren that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God nor does the perishable referring to our earthly body inherit the imperishable referring to our heavenly body behold I tell you a mystery we will not all sleep but we will all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet for the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised imperishable and we will be changed so not only does the Bible not condemn cremation or the type of burial anywhere in the scripture it actually assures us of the opposite that this earthly body is irrelevant to our eternal resurrection and the type of body we get that we are given a new body and flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven but God gives the believer a new body that is in conformity with the body of his glory so deformities and amputations and organ donors and all these kinds of things whether it be cremation or otherwise has no bearing on the type of body we get because it will be different it will be transformed into an eternal state and lastly in the Gospel of John in chapter 6 Jesus guaranteed this for this is the will of my father that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life and Jesus said I myself will raise him up on the last day there is no condition given to whether or not a believer in Jesus will be raised up on the last day the only condition is whether or not a person believed in him the burial the type of burial whether it be cremation or bodily burial or otherwise have no bearing whatsoever on the resurrection [Music]
