here's the litmus test for any marriage out there here it is Genesis 2:24 for this reason for this cause the cause of marriage a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh folks that is God's ordained measurement for any marriage Jesus affirmed this Jesus affirmed this Jesus affirmed this I'm grateful I am so grateful that we have reached the point in America that anyone regardless of ethnicity regardless of the color of skin regardless of the background of anyone anyone can become the president of the United States and I'm grateful I'm grateful that we have crossed the barrier and that we have an african-american president I'm also grateful that the Southern Baptist Convention is going to elect its first african-american president of the Southern Baptists convention this summer dr. Fred Luter he is a pastor in New Orleans he will be preaching here this summer he's preached here before I'm grateful for all that I despise racism of all kinds I think that if you can look down on your nose on anybody because their skin color is different from yours then your sinning against a holy God I believe that with all my heart so what I'm about to say has nothing to do with any color of skin or anything else it wouldn't matter if it was George Bush it wouldn't matter if it was Bill Clinton it wouldn't matter if it was Ronald Reagan or Jimmy Carter or Theodore Roosevelt or anybody else I want you to know that I am NOT saying anything because of the color of anyone's skin and I really don't want us to hoop and holler and all that stuff I really that's not it's not a place for that I just want you to know that I am opposed to what our president said about same-sex marriage even though he approves that God does not God does not and my hat is off to a wonderful group of african-american pastors who released a tremendous press release that you might not get to hear about because the media doesn't want to do anything with this but these are not just a few pastor these are various significant pastors many of them who live right here in Memphis and I want to read the press release to you I think you know while we're talking about aberrations to legitimate marriage in this text it would be a great time to talk about this especially since it just happened here's the title of the press release civil rights leaders speak out against the hijacking of their movement declaring that there is no civil right to do what God calls wrong and it came out of Memphis Tennessee let me taste something folks God has marked this city for revival and good things are gonna come out of Memphis Tennessee amen listen to this a coalition of well-known and highly respected black clergy headed by the Reverend William Owens founder and president of the coalition of african-american pastors C aap and other leaders responded strongly to President Obama's declaration of support for same-sex marriage reverend owens led in the civil rights movement in nashville tennessee and he said he is appalled by the ongoing effort of GLBT that's an acronym for gay lesbian bisexual and transgender activists delinked sexual diversity to the historic fight for civil rights for black americans the coalition includes such noted leaders as now listen many of them from Memphis Bishop George D McKinney senior pastor of st.
