in today's video I'm going to take a look at the iRobot Roomba combo J5 plus a robot vacuum and mop that can do both tasks with a simple bin swap let's find out whether this is the ultimate cleaning device for your home the Roomba combo J5 plus is one of the newest models from iRobot the company that pioneered robot vacuums the J5 is the most affordable model but it doesn't have a camera or a self-emptying base the J5 plus is somewhere in the middle offering both vacuuming and mopping functionality but requiring you to manually change the bin depending on what you want to do the J5 plus comes with two bins a vacuum bin and a combo bin the vacuum bin is for sucking up dirt dust hair and other debris from your floors it has a power lifting suction and dual multi-surface rubber brushes that can handle different types of flooring the combo bin is for mopping your hard floors with water or a cleaning solution it has a microfiber pad that scrubs and wipes your floors as the robot moves around to switch between the two modes you just need to press a button on the top of the robot and pull out the bin you want to replace then you insert the other bin and press another button to confirm the robot will automatically detect which bin is installed and adjust its cleaning Behavior accordingly for example if you have the combo bin inserted it will avoid carpets and rugs and only clean your hard floors the J5 plus also comes with a clean base automatic dirt disposal which is a docking station that can hold up to 60 days of debris in a disposable bag this means you don't have to worry about emptying the robot's bin after every cleaning session the robot will automatically return to the base when it's done or when it needs to recharge and it will empty its contents into the bag the base also has a water tank that can store up to one liter of water or cleaning solution for the mopping mode one of the coolest features of the J5 plus is its camera based navigation and obstacle recognition the robot has a camera on its front that allows it to map your home and create personalized cleaning schedules based on your preferences you can use the iRobot home app on your smartphone to see where the robot has cleaned set up no go zones customized cleaning settings and more the camera also helps the robot avoid common household objects that could get in its way or cause damage the robot can recognize more than 80 different objects such as shoes socks cords pet bowls toys and even solid pet waste Yes you heard that right the J5 plus is backed by irobot's poop promise which means it will avoid any unpleasant surprises left by your Furry Friends the J5 plus can also respond to voice commands via Amazon Alexa Google assistant or Siri you can ask it to start or stop cleaning clean a specific room or area or even clean around a certain object the robot can understand more than 600 voice commands making it very easy and convenient to control so how does the J5 plus perform in real life well I've been testing it for a few weeks now and I have to say I'm pretty impressed the robot does a great job of vacuuming my floors picking up all kinds of dirt and debris it's also fairly quiet compared to some other robot vacuums I've tried the mopping mode is also effective at removing stains and Spills from my hard floors the microfiber pad leaves them shiny and streak free the navigation and obstacle avoidance are also very impressive the robot rarely gets stuck or confused and it always finds its way back to the base it also avoids all the things I don't want it to touch like my shoes or my cat's litter box the app is very user-friendly and intuitive allowing me to customize everything from cleaning schedules to water levels the only downside I can think of is that you have to manually swap the bins if you want to switch between vacuuming and mopping this can be a bit annoying if you want to do both tasks in one go however this is also what makes the J5 plus cheaper than the j7 plus which has an automatic mop switcher but costs 300 more overall I think the Roomba combo J5 plus is a great device for anyone who wants both vacuuming and mopping functionality in one robot it's smart powerful versatile and easy to use it may not be perfect but it's definitely one of the best robot vacuums and mops on the market right now if you're interested in buying the Roomba combo J5 plus you can check out the links in the description below and if you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for more Gadget reviews thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next one
