Angel Reese knows a ring is coming LSU captured its very first national championship well that was the story last year here was the scene today 510 Eastern as Iowa headed to their bus hoping for a different result we welcome you to the NCAA Women's Championship presented by Capital One Angel Rees in LSU looking to head back to the final four meanwhile Caitlyn Clark hoping this is not her final game at Iowa Kim M Lisa blutter great respect for what each has done through their long histories in this game both a deep appreciation for this moment in women's basketball as we take a look at our Championship bracket we know South Carolina NC State they're in the final four to join them tonight will it be Iowa or LSU and later it's USC against Yukon as we welcome your court side hey everybody Ryan ruko alongside the Hall of Fame of Rebecca Lobo we are so happy to be with you tonight for this epic matchup between LSU and Iowa you can already feel the energy in this building these are the two most high-scoring offenses in the nation Rebecca we know with Iowa not just their offense but their entire team runs on the superstar that is Caitlyn Club the most exciting player in college basketball takes the floor once again tonight she leads the nation in scoring once again at just under 32 points a game she steps into logo threes with ease such an unselfish teammate leads the nation in assists as well at just under nine per game will this be her last we'll see the numbers historic for Clark leading the nation in points and assists meanwhile Angel Reese has put together a another terrific season Angel Reese has been dominant on the interior All Season throughout her entire career this season she's averaging 19 points 13 boards a game she's an absolute Menace on the offensive glass at five and a half offensive boards per game she gets it done on the defensive end as well and certainly the emotional and vocal leader of this LSU team and F nine straight double doubles in tournament games to further set at this stage we send things over to another Hall of Famer Holly Ro well part of the Intrigue of tonight's matchup is the fierce competitive nature of the women who are involved and how that manifests itself on the basketball court it garnered a lot of conversation last year whether it was Caitlyn Clark in the Elite 8 or Angel Reese in last year's championship game and it did spark a lot of conversation but Angel Reese made it clear this week she and Caitlyn clar do not hate each other actually supported each other from a far Angel sent out a great tweet when Caitlyn broke the all-time scoring record and Caitlyn had said I think Angel is great they are just so fiery that when they step between the lines there's no friends two unapologetically fiery young rebounding team in the country yeah the the arms were hooked and officials always have their eye on that that shot partially blocked as Iowa comes away with it here is Clark eyes up up Clark will fire back iron and Johnson comes down with a rebound for LSU what a rebound by F Johnson here's van lith will take the mid-range and knock it down Kim Moi told us Haley van lith is going to be given opportunities to take shots tonight they need her to feel confident in her mid-range and I think Iowa is okay giving up the mid-range here's Clark driving in for two Caitlyn Clark is at her best when she can balance her three-point prowess with attacks to the rim here's Morrow putting it on the deck lost it out of bounds and it's deflected last hit by Iowa we saw this a lot in the sweet 16a game against Colorado Caitlyn Clark turning the corner and finishing an easy one at the rim and Lisa bler felt like LSU may put more of its attention on the others around Clark and there might be real opportunities for Clark to score in this game and that that's exactly what I may need in order to win it as Marshall comes up with a steal find stalky who will lay it in and that's why it's so important for Hannah stoky to stay out of foul trouble and stay on the floor for Iowa she is an outstanding Rim Runner Morrow so good in the post the depal transfer has averaged over 21 points in her selection since that timeout and that emotional Outburst she got what she wanted those teammates went to the post players Ana Morrow Angels got four points very clear communication from their leader that they listen to and they have responded and not just about the post players being able to touch the ball to score they've made the right decisions to pass back out Clark completes the three-point play 11 points three assists in this first for Caitlyn Clark meanwhile LSU after starting two for seven is seven for its last nine from the floor they dump it into Reese Reese bodies inside easy finish for Angel Reese Iowa might need to send the double before the catch happens because that's just too easy for Angel Rees here's Clark Clark a little too tricky fortunate and that's going to be timeout we've seen Angel read plays get steals how would you describe her basketball IQ and her ability to change this game angel in a big body has guard skills she's got quick hands she wants to was a nearly Flawless 10 minutes for Angel Reese she is an outstanding offensive rebounder there she's got a clear Lane right to the bucket great hands ability to finish inside she had 10 points in that quarter a couple steals as well man what a great start for the senior for a little more on Angel here is Holly well Angel Rees has shown to be an elite winner no matter where she's gone when she was at St Francis Academy in Baltimore as a high school player four Time conference Champion two-time conference champion in volleyball and a national championship last year everywhere she goes she impacts winning and she's told us herself I don't care what else happens in the game I just want to win but I'll tell you what 10 points five rebounds three assists two steals she's impacting everything right now thank you Holly is Clark forces up a three cannot hit it and another rebound from Reese are sixth solid defense by Haley van lithon Clark on that possession van lift faced off against Clark in the Elite 8 last year as a member of Louisville but did not have the defensive assignment her three is good Iowa and a manto man for the first time on that possession and Clark gets caught on the screen an eight-point LSU lead Clark through traffic finds a falter she hits a big one for the Hawkeyes meanwhile AJ Edinger getting minutes for Iowa so stalky and adio Grady on the bench edigar in for Iowa Williams mid-range no and a fter the rebound for Iowa LSU able to hit some perimeter shots to get Iowa out of the Zone but also so Iowa can rebound and box out better Clark dumps it edigar gets the nine a full fisted rejection from Angel Reese Angel Reese has made an impact in a big way on the defensive end we've seen a couple of steals and there she helps and then comes Williams with her third turnover yeah in then in the manto man I was going to be challenged to stay in a stance and stay between their quicker offensive player in the basket Clark getting off the ball two at the line now we see aiyah Del Rosario coming into the game for LSU she played incredibly well in the sweet 16 brings great size and strength on the interior playing against size of UCLA in that matchup here's Morrow Morrow traveled and you can see Kim Moi saying we got to stop turning the ball over and that is not what anybody wants to see Angel Reese going back although it looks like get get on the bike all right here's Clark bounces stoky can't finish a good setup from Clark and stalky unable to cash in van lith out to Williams as LSU awaits the return of reesee here's Williams shimmying taking can't hit stalky the rebound and an opportunity for Iowa Clark knocked out of bounds by Del Rosario no they'll say it last hit Iowa and Caitlin Clark has made far too many careless passes in this first half and it's not going to be an over-the-top pass there to stoky just because Del Rosario has great size she is 66 bounce it to her yeah or fake it and go the other way you have three turnovers from Clark as well as a 5-second violation started the game redot Johnson a play on Johnson evades dishes Morrow can't finish nice breakdown from F Johnson and no offensive rebound for LSU since Angel ree left the game Iowa has started getting stops but they've had more trouble scoring stalky can't finish but gets the foul Del Rosario whistle for it and now Angel Rees is going to bble to the scorers table and check back in for her [Applause] team one of the things Angel Reese talked to us about the other day Rebecca she said you know last year we were able to play so free and easily no one expected anything from us this year it's been a harder path because we all have felt the expectations as the defending champs and obviously as a team that gets a whole lot of attention as well two-point game six straight points from Iowa here's reys we going to go to work on stalky Reese flips it up and in she is Unstoppable tonight such a difference for LSU offensively in their Williams the rebound LSU pushing Pace now three on two Williams to Van lith van lith misses Williams can't hit either this look a little exhausted at this pace yes Clark no LSU should smartly walk the ball up the floor this has been frenetic players a little bit tired right now and Lisa blera told her she was surprise when she went into Synergy to learn LSU actually plays at a faster Pace than Iowa they had hard time getting it in the last time on the under out of bounds here's a falter on the drive a falter lays it in and this game is tied as Marshall nearly comes up with a steal second time she's got her hand on an inbounds pass tonight and then she fouls F Johnson on the other end and helps her right up Caitlyn Clark tells her teammates to attack and try to get to the rim and draw fouls no foul drawn but certainly getting to the rim by a falter well we saw a falter that big go-ahead bucket in the final minutes of that second round win against West Virginia not afraid to take it to the hoop deflected into the arms of Reese Reese will take can't hit what a rebound Morrow goes over Martin leaves it short and that is not over the back she is able to jump and reach without causing a foul here's Martin into ogrady bounc to Marshall out to a falter here's Clark fires it in ogrady a deep catch can't pop it home under two minutes to go in this first half here's van lith driving it inside and gets the whistle against Clark who picks up her first Hal van Li insisting the contact thir great decision by Haley van lith to attack try to get this foul called y I'll say I think this game has been very very well afficiated yes I don't necessarily agree that that was a foul and Dan Li ratts in the first free throw not all contact is a foul yep can have marginal contact if it doesn't make a big impact then it is not a foul if it's marginal contact that does impact the play significantly then it is a foul correct [Music] Professor here's a falter Gathering inside could not points from Caitlyn Clark game tied at 41 Morrow wants it takes it no ogrady is fouled by who by Rees and that is going to be number two on Angel Reese Angel Reese Angel Reese is relentless on the front LSU has missed its last nine shots Johnson ends that and back to what Angel ree was saying there's the phrase in basketball feed the beast and there's been no better beast for LSU today than Angel Reese she does need touches when she's on the floor tied at 43 10 second Difference game in shot clock kayen Clark saying get away to Addison O'Grady because she wants to wind this down not give LSU a lot of time here's Clark Clark bounces away five to shoot shovels back go Grady sure 7 seconds left in the half Johnson on the attack spinning and finishing what a move from CL Johnson and what a half from these young [Applause] women FL Johnson has been spectacular at times including this one the move the Finish beautiful basketball let's set things over to Holly row Caitlyn your team got out to such a hot start and then a dip how did you recollect yourselves in that moment see they're really good players they're going to make tough shots we got to do a better job on the glass they got they're outrebounded Us by eight um but they're going to make some tough shots that's how good they are so I think being able to respond and whether there storms and go down and make our own runs everybody's breathing hard this has been a high paac game how do you guys have enough in the tank for the second half with this kind of pace I don't think you need more motivation than a final four on unbelievable as we take a look at our capital one rewarding performance how about the Stars beginning with Angel Reese there was no more impactful player on both ends of the floor in that first half than Angel Reese here she draws four as she gets into the paint able to finish was all over the offensive blast with three o boards in the first 20 minutes getting it done defensively as well two steals two blocks what a first half for Angel Reese and then Caitlyn Clark of course is going to cause all kinds of problems offensively here drawing five Defenders gets the paint touch delivers it outside for a three and we know she can also walk in and drain them from deep I thought she had a really good balance of attacking the paint and taking the perimeter shot take a look here what does Caitlyn Clark like to do when she goes left she likes to pull up what does she like to do when she goes right get all the way to the rim she was able to do both in the first half Clark with 19 points five assists reys with 13 points eight rebounds three assists here we go second half action in Albany a trip to the final four at stake Clark was trying to redirect a pass Clark oh my from sked here's Johnson who gets fouled and if it's stalky it will be her third and it is number three on Hannah stalky Caitlyn Clark here Haley van lith right there but you're never right there when it's Caitlyn Clark the benches lik in the three we know the stardom of Clark is unlike anything we have seen the thing that's at the base of the stardom is her intoxicating range and when you look at her average three-pointer made it's over 26 ft the three-point line is just over 22 ft 56% of her threes are from 25 plus as Johnson hits both free throws he simply have never seen a player take that many threes
