Intrepid Adventure - Pilbara to Exmouth

[Music] [Music] This Is Where The Adventure Starts it's good there's hardly any dust this road has been great yeah it's unbelievable isn't it I just as soon as you said oh it's good to be on the dirt first thing our cop was corrugation [Music] [Music] so what's the guy can I how far up we gotta go um well we're just going to sort of follow our noses we are going to go through um Marble Bar itself just maybe restock get some fuel but um essentially we just we're just going to take whatever tracks we feel like we want to take if we see a good track if we can take it because there's a lot of them a lot of tracks that lead to the same place so we're just suck it and see essentially we want to get as close to carry Genie as we can without touching too much blacktop we're going to have to touch the blacktop of course when we get back to the highway to get the carriage and keep that to a minimum then I'll be happy but we'll definitely get a bit of blacktop in Marble Bar Big Sky country there's only the pilbara can do and I keep looking for Wiley E coyote or the Road Runner or even a cowboy or an Indian or a dingo or a noon he didn't go [Music] I swear you're in an old western film in America in Nevada or a place like that it was unbelievable [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] part of the world but I reckon it's um Evolution it's all petrified dinosaur poo that's what all the big boulders and stuff are that's what I put down to so on a serious note Ernie obviously there'd be um stories behind it from your people what what's their take on it all oh there's different stories for different areas most of the time it's not so much the iron in the Rocks themselves but different areas of different sacred significance to um different mop from around this way um like in Central Australia they got a place called yiprinya yiprino is the caterpillar dreaming so that the McDonald ranges look like big caterpillars and same around here you've got the same sort of concept of these big mountain ranges that just go on and on and on like um like caterpillars fair enough well I still like my prehistoric dinosaur who um Theory what do you reckon I know I reckon this place is huge and I'm not even gonna come into the history of it [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it had been an awesome day playing in the pilbara but the sun had crossed the yardarm and it was time to start looking for a place to pull up for the night yeah I love cutting their own tracks to find a good Bush camp and a creek bed or at the bottom of a beautiful Hill nice flat area an open area for a fire make sure there's a lot of firewood around I'm not much of a caravan Park person I like to find a spot where I know I'm going to wake up in the morning and go how good is this spot and that's what happened on the first night in the pilbara brought in Korean guys from here and see if we can find a camp in plane all these Hills good to get between all those Hills it's an old track hasn't been used for a while but it'll be a reason for it being here it's actually showing up on my map oh there you go unsealed Road it says true what's your Duke out in Plano isn't I'm doing the potato so I got the Bernier calipers out I've been measuring them exactly 4.76 mil 4.76 that's what I'm saying 4.76 I'm almost was that a quarter of an inch I think so you sure yeah you seriously you haven't let us down just looking up into that Sky yes there's not many places in Australia that you can view the Stars you know there's no there's no City Lights to destroy it it's just vehicle it's called flash tuning I need more power or it's going into underboost it's doing this and that and I can I can relay that back long as I've got service see the axis of the trend on this is up to a dozen or more it's actually 90 different parameters you can actually tune on you read everything off there they there's somebody up there and just setting up yeah I got Davey and Eric back in Brisbane they're my master tuners and they do these Trends all around Australia and that's what I do I travel Australia different temperatures different atmospherical pressures did I just bore you sorry you were saying nothing mate I'm going to get back to tuning my car [Music] that was pretty good mate we've uh we do get some awesome spots don't we ever gotta get even hotter with us there hilver is interesting to me because of all the contrast to Colors especially at the moment with all the wildflowers and the greenery set back against the red the red dirt and the the red of the the rocks of the iron ore rocks that are actually rusting please marble Bar's official highest temperature ever was 49.2 degrees and while the bar holds the record for the longest run of hot days South Australia's Nevada gets the melted chocolates for the country's hottest ever temp at a sweaty 50.5 degrees [Music] so much for being the horse [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] coffee it's cold compared to what it can be was at least 28 foreign [Music] well gentlemen that was one Long Train full of all in all so all that's going to go to China and probably come back over here as Toyotas and bicycles and sorts of things [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] this trip was throwing up plenty of surprises for Ernie Kenner and I but when the little boy gets his heart set on a potential campsite well you just gotta follow him in [Music] true Cano fashion just dies off into the wilderness there's nothing like camping with Keno no one's going to find us that's for sure [Music] sat down there I could not understand why he went in there no one would go there's nothing in there but for some reason he put a bee in his Bonnet and stubborn little bugger and went well knee so I'm going in yeah it looks pretty nice down in here I might have to put a little bit of bulldozing but oh yeah it's looking good down here all right what's down here [Music] I gotta get into full drive [Music] and lockers that's a lot of traction I think I'm stuck on a rock I heard him on the radio yeah it's all right it's all right I'm out [Music] I'll tell you what for about 50 meters of low range it took us about 20 minutes to get through hey going with a gleno yeah mate just um what you want to put the wheels [Music] you got a piece of stick stuck in one on the way in so a big fellow Jody I thought that was pretty amazing me I went oh well I'll change that tire no they just tried to pull a stick out wouldn't come so they've got this Corkscrew sort of thing and push the stick in and there's air coming out and he just go there put this in it this little rubber thing with a bit of glue on the key to getting out of trouble like the trouble we find ourselves in here is to be prepared [Music] the spike out of the tire and hold this guy and then I'm going to put a plug in you want to pull the spot glamor good to go good to go yes mate director I'm born here yeah [Music] spin him sits in there mate okay how far and then we can get 15 minutes away then we can get fuel fuel bacon egg Sanger iced coffee really and then we can head off to the mountain with no name it has a name it has and I've got the track right here Mount nameless see it has a name apparently it's the highest full drive track in wa is not really famous for Hill so I don't know how big it's going to be [Music] [Music] thank you foreign [Music] Amos is the highest four-wheel drive track here in wa you get to the top of that it's spectacular views I don't think we better tackle it from this side [Music] apparently it um oh that's there in front of us so I can see the mines right there where they've been piling dirt Mount nameless I'm not sure why it'd be called Mount nameless I guess a fella went there and couldn't think of anything [Music] yep if there's one thing I know about Keno he said he loved the challenge there was no way he was going to untitch that camper respect said four Drive track a lady came down and gave me her two cents worth saying I wouldn't go up there with a trailer there's a couple of loose rocks [Music] he was right there was a loose rock on that track but I just drove around it [Music] it's starting to get a bit steeper boys oh really plenty of traction oh yeah it's definitely getting to see them [Music] thank you it's not throwing a swinging cat up here complicated [Music] halfway up and mint name was just starting to leave us breathless [Music] the beauty of this rugged eye in all country has to be seen to be believed [Music] foreign [Music] yeah crawling just calling look at that view to the left boys [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] know that 13 of the world's iron ore comes out of Australia out of the pilbra out of the pilbara and I believe that I believe that Tom Price is the the heart of the operation here we go mate the highest vehicle access in wa yep East that way west that way and that's where we're headed Due West ex-mouth 395 as the crow flies yeah it might be a few Hills before I'd say it's going to be more than a lot more than 395 um on the roads more like 600. [Music] thank you [Music] foreign takes us out to Woodstock where we meet up with the high high Inland Highway again and then head south a bit and then we're going to shoot across the coast outside of the coast uh it's about 12 hours 12 hours to ex-mouth mate and I know a beautiful little camping and fishing spot there it's been a bit of time I already haven't you can I it's a little bit yeah yeah wolfpit Creek and basically I couldn't spend I had two fishing rods running that's enough bulldust for a few days it's time to turn west follow the Sun and head for the coast [Music] thank you [Music] so this is Keno's secret Hideaway nice secret spot I don't know if it was much of a secret but there wasn't anyone out there but on that track in very interesting there was lots of sheep you could tell it was sort of like a wild that wild sheep because it definitely hadn't been farmed in quite a while because these sheep still had tails so those sheep are a little bit like you mate No Boundaries on that day we had a big drive out to exmouth and we pulled up just short of ex-mouth and turned right out to the spit lovely little spot right on there where the tide comes around you we rolled in it was open empty it was firewood around I first found it I was just looking on my Hema map and I could see that there was a creek through there but it wasn't showing any tracks each side I think locals have just made the track and I just did a bit of exploring just followed the creek up and found the mouth and found that awesome Camp spot right on the end [Music] yeah as soon as we got there opened the doors washed out with the mosquitoes and I'm going oh fair enough and he said something about a big tide coming in great spotty reckons [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] you know only the first time I came here I drove all the way around the top of the ex-mouth cape to the other side into the National Park Copper's logs everywhere ropes telling you where you're allowed to go and where you're not allowed to go so then I drove all the way back around here and found this is nice no one here no one telling you where you can park or where you can't park just beautiful and the boys try their try their best at a better a bit of fishing and I don't think that was successful either that's pretty pretty typical low range fashion for for Keno any I don't fish so there's no biggie for me but it keeps the guys entertained for a little while foreign I wouldn't mind a bit of weight so I can cast it out further it's not a big creek but what do you catch in here oh mate you get Estuary Cod Mangrove Jack brim Flathead Whiting and then once the tide starts rolling in your plagues will come in you'll have tuna mackerel wild sharks what whale sharks [Music] Sunset the beach at night all to ourselves and the chance to stop and reflect on what had been an awesome trip already and we're only halfway but the biggest challenge of the trip so far will arrive with the dawn [Music] foreign [Music]
