[Music] hello and welcome to the review of the exceptional intercontinental Maldives as of October 2000 nineteen the intercontinental Maldives represents the newest addition in the ihd portfolio and certainly one worth mentioning this review will be extensive in nature covering all room categories restaurants and bars public facilities sporting facilities as well as the kids club and spa the resort itself is located on Mamo nagao Island which is indira at all people arriving in my lead before 3:00 p.m. can opt for the seaplane transfer which takes roughly 45 minutes and brings you directly to the resort and for those arriving in male in the late evening you can opt for a domestic 20-minute flight to a nearby island followed by a 35 minute speed boat ride that brings you to the resort the resort is separated into three distinct sections the first section is the main island where you will find the majority of public facilities such as restaurants bars kids clubs spa as well as the water sports center the second section is the lagoon which incidentally is one of the largest in the Maldives the lagoon is home to the adults-only venue called the retreat as well as the lagoon pool villas which I will cover extensively in a few minutes the third and final section of the resort is an extension to the lagoon which is a long and windy dock which houses all of the one-bedroom two-bedroom and 3-bedroom overwater villas which will also be covered in a few minutes as we move on to the review of the rooms let me preface this by stating that irrespective of the room categories you will find a very consistent look and feel across all rooms all room categories are tastefully decorated and reinforced the sustainability mission of the Intercontinental Resort what you see here is the entry-level room category called the beach pool villa these rooms are located on the main island and each have their punch pools with direct access to the pristine white-sand beach the beach pool villas come in a variety of sizes with the one-bedroom being perfect for couples looking for a private retreat the two-bedroom family beach pool villa is essentially identical in terms of decoration with the addition of a small living room area in which the sofa bed can be opened this allows the two-bedroom family beach pool villa to accommodate four people comfortably those in need of more space can opt for the 3-bedroom beachfront residence which can accommodate up to six adults comfortably this Villa category comes fully equipped with a large living and dining room space as well as a massive outdoor area which includes a much larger pool located directly on the beach and for those who settle for nothing but the best you can always opt for the Royal beachfront residence this 7,000 square foot mansion acts as a resort within the resort staff are located on-site and cater to your every needs the living and dining room areas are the largest of all villas at the Intercontinental and the villa also comes equipped with a full kitchen this is the largest villa at the intercontinental and can accommodate nine people bedrooms and bathrooms at the Royal beachfront residents are larger than in any other villa but are decorated in the very same style moving on now to the lagoon section of the hotel you take a look at the lagoon pool villas which are unique in the Maldives these villas could be described as quasi overwater villas as their pools and terraces are located over water the lagoon pool villas are all two-story buildings the ground floor consists of a spacious and comfortable living room area from which you can access both your terraces the main terrace has a plunge pool that is located over water and as such provides you the real feel of an overwater villa at the other end of the ground-floor you have a covered outdoor terrace that provides you direct access to the lagoon and the lagoon beach the room or rooms depending on the size of your villa are located on the second floor as in every room category the bedrooms are tastefully decorated with top-quality material bathrooms are similar to other villas with the exception of the view which overlooks the ocean once again providing that sense of being in an overwater villa from my perspective the lagoon pool villas are the perfect hybrid between a beach villa and an overwater villa and for larger group once again the lagoon section offers the three-bedroom Lagoon residents the lagoon residence offers ample living and dining room space but the key differentiator is the massive outdoor area with a large pool overlooking the ocean the lagoon serves as a giant swimming pool the main difference being this swimming pool has marine life in it a variety of fish can be found in the lagoon making it a great place for snorkeling moving on now to the final room category which are the overwater villas located on each side of a 400 meter wooden deck the overwater villas offer the ultimate relaxation experience in the Maldives the 1-bedroom overwater villas offer privacy and intimacy they have a maximum occupancy of two people making them perfect for couples the two-bedroom overwater villa has a large living and dining room space but its main feature is the outdoor terrace with the infinity pool overlooking the ocean this room category provides you with the ultimate Maldivian getaway the isolation privacy intimacy infinity pool large outdoor space make it the perfect spot to enjoy the Maldive Ian sunset of all the villa categories I stayed that this was my favorite overall and of course to top it off the Intercontinental Resort offers a three bedroom overwater residence [Music] the layout of the villa is very similar to the two-bedroom overwater villa the main difference being a third room located on the second floor making this villa suitable for six people moving on now to the different dining venues at the Intercontinental Cafe Gumi is the main dining venue of the hotel where you can enjoy breakfast lunch and dinner this restaurant is located right next to the main hotel pool and has direct access to the beach for breakfasts guests can enjoy a combination of buffet and a la carte options whereas lunch and dinners are 100% Paulo carte food quality across all venues at the hotel was without any reproach and the person lies an attentive service received was truly exceptional and worth mentioning the retreat is the adults-only venue located in the lagoon section guests that are 12 years old and above can enjoy breakfast lunch dinner as well as afternoon tea and evening cocktails also a point to mention the Intercontinental Maldives is the first-ever resort to offer full Club benefits to all guests irrespective of room categories this means guests can enjoy the afternoon tea service from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and also the post dinner cocktails from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. [Music] the lighthouse is the Mediterranean restaurant located at the other end of the island and is open only for dinner from the top of its observatory you can enjoy sweeping views of the island and then the evening time breathtaking views of the sunset nicely decorated and with a maximum capacity of roughly 40 people the lighthouse comes across as the high-end dining venue at the Intercontinental while the pricing of the dishes is consistent with other restaurants the overall presentation of the dishes gives you the impression you're in the high-end European restaurant as the name implies the fish market is the seafood venue of the resort and is located right next to the main pier despite being located in the middle of the ocean hotels in the Maldives generally need to ship or fly fresh foods on a daily basis one can therefore expect the selection of fresh seafood to change on a constant basis everything we've tasted here was excellent and I highly recommend the Sri Lankan pepper crab which is a local delicacy the sunset bar is located on the second level of a structure that's designed as a boat from the top deck you can enjoy a variety of original cocktails all while admiring the gorgeous sunset finishing off with the restaurants the collective specializes in oven-baked pizzas this venue opens at lunchtime but also can serve as an alternate venue for those that want to enjoy the afternoon tea for those that want to indulge in world-class spa treatments you can always go to the avi spa which is located on the main island right next to the lighthouse restaurant the treatment rooms are essentially overwater villas providing for a really unique environment and helping achieve that sense of relaxation a small pool is also made available for clients of the spa where you can sit down relax and enjoy the views of the ocean the ocean section next to the spa is also the best spot for snorkeling around the resort as that is where you can find the local reef the reef is located no more than 20 metres off the beach and can be accessed directly from the beach a wide variety of sea life can be observed here and represents a good option for those don't want to venture off the resort planet trekkers is the signature kids club at intercontinental resorts children ranging from very young up to 12 years old can enjoy a variety of activities under the supervision of very competent and attentive staff by default planet trekkers offers an extensive daily programming that is sure to keep your children entertained and for the thrill-seeking children out there parents can register their children to a few additional activities for a modest fee ocean dive center is the watersports activity venue of the hotel a wide range of activities are available for hotel guests some for free others at a feed the center has all of the traditional motorized and non-motorized equipment but also include what I will call big boy toys that will be sure to please those in search of an activity that goes outside the norm wrapping up the review here I have no other choice but to highly recommend the Intercontinental Maldives for anybody looking for a high-end luxury experience the competitive nature of the marketplace pushes new market entrants to excel and differentiate themselves from a service perspective at this price range customers will and should expect top quality across all services offered on the property this applies to the physical premises but more importantly to the personal touches that will help create a memorable experience I'm pleased to say the Intercontinental delivers on all these fronts and I have no reservations in recommending this property to anybody wanting to visit the Maldives the service level received was above anything I've experienced so far on the Maldives this was facilitated by the personal curator service which will help tailor design your stay and create truly memorable experiences I hope this review was useful to you and I wish you the
