let me get in the dirt okay I don't want to be in the road Oh because we have to do any camera oh that's true see milk what are you doing down in the dirt there and really don't get hit by a bus or a truck that's pretty pretty normal pretty pretty good explanation so anyway we're talking about yeah there's a nice big truck those things are just yeah that there are it's terrible the amount of people those things kill and it's no joke yeah we see it all the time we chat moments I think just like they lose control these squash cars they run over crowds of people they go off the road into houses they just demolish buildings does things are killers yeah anyway yeah we're talking about selective crackdowns yeah I want to say when trying to decides to do something they do a big they do they do and we're just going to be talking about especially what's going on now because there's a big party conference coming up right and snow that kind of party no it's so disappointing like yeah party but no it's not that kind of party room yeah here the party room so yeah some lots of big changes happening around China right now and that's because of this big upcoming thing so we're gonna talk about this whole culture in China of like selective crackdowns and the fact that the crackdowns never really last very long let's get political literature let's not get political let's just talk about it what are you doing I'm getting out of the dirt dude yeah dirt I think still like a word yeah that's one of them you have it no one's saying that anyway yeah selective crackdowns well yeah you guys have to understand that the way things work in a one-party state you might be from a country that has you know a liberal democracy where things have to go through checks and balances and stuff but in China the way things work is very very strange because you have provincial governments you have all of these kind of states it almost looks like America and the way that's broken up yeah but the problem is is that these all of the local governments have to answer to one big top dog right and that's cheating think that's the current leader right or whoever might be in power at the moment and the way things work here is that a lot of times the you know the party in Beijing is so far away from from issues and the fact that there's only one branch of government that really kind of oversees everything means that a lot of stuff can boil over into absolute insanity right yeah so an example would be like maybe there is a cult you guys might not know this but a lot of cults become popular in China like grassroot cults and stuff yep and that's because like you know in the countryside a lot of these people are quite susceptible to new ideas and there's a there's been a hole and you know where religion hasn't filled for a very long time so you might have a cult right there's one called like ever lightning group or some [ __ ] right yeah they move to America or something but anyway the cult will happen and it'll get out of control to the point where like it you know maybe a town is following the cult and the government has to do something about it right yeah but you know until the actual government finds out about it it can get quite rowdy and out of control so sure what happens is the government will have to do a crackdown right and this this is not just cause this is everything right so we talked about motorcycles before how it had to get so insane that they had to decide to just ban yeah it's we're gonna get rid of motorcycles BAM we're gonna do this ban we're gonna do that what are some other examples of crackdowns street vendors in street old people selling food or clothes and stuff on the side of the road right people you know that the biggest problem to be honest is the fact that things are never regulated properly in China right and so it gets it gets out of hand and you'll get so many street vendors that the entire road gets clogged up that cars and people can barely even walk down there right that's what I'm saying is that that kind of lack of communication or that lack of control means that huge crackdowns have to happen and they have the power to do so right yeah but then they're like because of that one street right what they'll do is they'll say like okay the entire city no longer is about to have anyone selling any food on any street absolutely around it they go around like arresting and confiscating everyone's food carts and you know they you know beat them up or whatever you know there's all sorts of things go on the funny thing is if it doesn't threaten the party's rule like yeah that kind of stuff that stuff will creep back right it will come back and then eventually a leader a party official be in town and it gets all cleaned up again and it's just a cycle it's beautiful I've seen it all over again over and over again and I think the street vendors thing isn't actually it's a good example right yeah it's like they when they start like getting wiped off the street by all those like government thugs jung-hwan guys yeah yeah then you can tell that someone's in town yeah so what will happen is for instance I used to hang out this years ago sort of in this little little urban village right and for years you know it's a barbecue place you can sit out on the street you can sit down and you know a lot of my old videos are shot they're actually you know sitting on the road basically out at a table having barbecue drinking beer and four years it's fine then all of a sudden like a Beijing official was coming down to Shenzhen right and the police the chung-won came in there and they like confiscated all the tables and chairs that were on the road you know they don't tell you move them no they come there and they take them and they throw them in a truck and they go and destroy them you know they don't let us fight in seven because yeah I mean they take people's actual if they selling clothes I'll take the whole like rack of clothes and throw them in there you'll never get that stuff back you know No so they basically steal I mean there's all these videos of them like smashing people's watermelons and studying old ladies yes all sorts of nonsense but I mean I was there and I'm sitting there and the parts of the the barbeque is like sorry you know there's nothing we can do the Chum corner are taking all that stuff away we have to close up for tonight you know yeah and then it was like that for about a month they weren't they weren't any tables or chairs on the road yeah they had a little like indoor area but it was so small and cramped and crap I never you know there's like two tables in it right so I didn't go there for like a month or so while this crackdown was happening and then you know the Beijing official had obviously long since gone and things started to go back to normal and then it was as if it never happened I know tables are back on the streets chairs and all those back to normal so that's kind of what happens it's like a cycle you know it is uh this is a funny example in my city everything that you said pertains my city as well right it's kind of how you judge when when shits going down basically but it's so crazy because it is a situation where everything is pure chaos and then everything is hyper hyper controlled so you get these conflicting ideas of what's trying to life is like it's like way more free than where you're from and then it's way less free than where you're from yeah like overnight right but there there's this thing called winning every like a lot of cities trying to compete this title winning city you mean civilized yes yeah and for tier 3 cities where Joe is always trying to compete for that title so they can put up the civilized city wending this is a blending juncture wrench yeah yeah Schengen always wins that you realize every city wins that right [ __ ] anyway anyway they want they need to have certain standards to get these titles or it yeah so anyways everywhere around hi Joe it's like when being city civilized City right yeah and there's actually a month where the Beijing officials are wherever whatever officials have come down yeah and things go from pure chaos the absolute frickin police state level stuff you'll have ten cops on every street corner wearing white gloves they start seizing bikes because my motorcycles are actually actually illegal right funny like wending this word civilized is become a swear word amongst us bikers because like yeah well we'll call each other and be like dude watch out it's when ming mahn yeah this kind of sound like when ming is now so every because we hate the police presence they decide to like literally just like for lack of better words [ __ ] everything up yeah rip down all the the restaurant installs the street signs and you know right it's crazy it is I've actually got a story about winning you know okay I used to used to do dirt biking here in China there's a like a little Club of other foreigners and a couple of Chinese guys who enjoy doing dirt but China's not built for that right they don't have the infrastructure that it doesn't really exist as a hobby or anything here so it except in their mom yeah I mean the thing is yeah that's that's a bit different we had to go and kind of make our own little areas too right yeah yeah you know anyway so we went we were keeping our bikes in an actual bike repair shop so a motorcycle repair shop in like a third no actually the more like a fifth tier yeah it's not anyway it was a place where bikes are legal and you're allowed to ride bikes so we can't pull our bikes in there but dirt bikes aren't registerable right it's just all done yeah oh yeah exactly they're they're basically just for riding on the dirt we only did ride him on the dirt they're not for riding around the city or whatever anyway we get a call from the shop owner hmm at like 10 o'clock at night and he's like listen the police have just come past our shop because it's wooden Ming week they came in and they're demanding to see the registration papers for each bike that's in the shop in their own shop yeah so that means you couldn't even like hang one on there so it's like you do not provide all the registration papers you know tomorrow morning when we come back we're confiscating all the bikes that don't have registration papers sorry I had to call up my friends and we had to like do a road trip in my car up to sharp in order to get our bike bikes out of there before the next morning you know saying things like that which is weird because it's a chaotic little town with bikes buzzing around every Shore and you know it's like why that's I was gonna say is it literally goes from zero to 100 pretty damn yeah that's like okay it goes from like unbelievable fun and you'd really think that it's a lawless crazy awesome adventurous place you know to absolute crackdowns and it becomes absolutely unreasonable like this bike there right who's to say you're not just collecting it for parts and you wanted you wanted like you know keep it as a memory or like put it on the wall no serious like you're like you're not you tell the cops I'm not gonna write it on the road but that's not even the law yeah they just make [ __ ] up it's true so they clean remember when we were going through northern China also in a lot of the cities you had to produce when we wanted to put in petrol we had to produce our our passports our bike registrations our insurance our all this before they would let us even put petrol in the motorcycles it's kind of weird right but motorcycles aside let's talk about the whole WeChat thing that's happening right now ahead of this place as you go ahead we've been lead we've been leading up this I mean this is this is scary I don't want to be tinfoil hat yeah but it is a bit scary and WeChat you know it's obviously the be-all and end-all of apps here in China you can use it for pretty much everything honestly they should just make a WeChat phone that just doesn't do anything else because that's pretty much all Chinese people do on their own so it does chat you could pay for stuff yeah and this huge ban that they put on you know foreign websites the social media like Facebook and stuff is conglomerated all of these things into their own domestic efforts as we did so it is under full government control and you know the government's always had an issue with it being so popular that you know stuff's always shared on there you got little video clips you got articles you got pictures and it's shared freely like there's not much they can do about it is pure Anna you would need absolute infrastructure - I mean they do have some algorithms in place like for instance for sure I've actually seen it where because people shared gruesome stuff they share people being ordered people being run over by cars you know it's people being stabbed committing suicide jumping raid all this kind of stuff gets shared like little video clips but they've been quite a few times where like someone will share a video clip I try to open it it'll just be blank and then right that's that's what I'm trying to get at it's like they're there you need the infrastructure to be able to control stuff like that right and obviously they have like algorithms like yeah but the end of the day you just like so much you can do right in this juggernaut of an app people find ways around it whatnot so what they did was double down right obviously it's getting out of control for them they think it's probably threatening party rule and people are probably sharing information they probably shouldn't be and they don't like when that sheron's I don't like when a big group of people share information so what's happened now is that you uh if you have a group and wechat group is very easy to explain it's basically like like a google hangouts permanently in your phone with tons of people in it you can share everything so we have we Tegrity alright are just a small we chat group for our conquering northern China team where we talk about like what we're doing as far as the edits going right stuff right yeah it's very convenient very good but and there's you know those groups that share like porn we're not in those but they're there all right those groups that share this and this and this and hundreds to thousands of people can be in these groups and the government's pretty not keen on that so what's happened is they've now made a law yeah I have such a bad headache yeah they've made a law that says you are legally responsible if you start group which is easy to do you can do it too so just add some people are so easy yeah you just add people you're legally responsible for everything that's posted in that group than that that's ridiculous it sounds like [ __ ] and it sounds like oh yeah Big Brother you know other people are sucks [ __ ] about that but it is happening and the first arrest has been made so you can be liable for what you say in what other commit you have a group and someone just post some stupid political crap in it you know just because they like repay stal Inc or something suddenly you're you're reliable for what he said right it's ridiculous I mean that's that's ridiculous I mean that's that's how they do it though and that's these scare tactics and it's not even reporting people that gets the arrest said he'd screw it it's they are it has been said that the government does consistently monitor especially people like I mean that's something something you always have in the back your mind is whatever you're saying and posting on WeChat is definitely being recorded I mean 10 cent and the government are very quite close-knit and of course they share everything all the information right I get kind of tired of people that say like Google you're in America we also do that you think your eyes and ah blah blah blah yeah I mean it's not the same it's not the same scale likeness it's not the same scale and you have a lot of legal recourse in America you can be like that's right invasion of privacy or blah blah blah you know people that actually care but here it's like they can literally take anything that you said in a group and put you in jail for it and nobody will be able to great thing so it's very different so that's that's the newest band and things they're big getting down left and right so yeah it's a scramble when things get out of control like we say that the government has to do these huge sweeping yeah they've tried before remember WeChat you could do like sites where you could just like record a very quickly yes they got rid of that out of the program at some point it's now back it's back right at some point they actually just deleted that feature because people were using it to share my clients and stuff right which we saw I now see that's not and for those of you who are who are curious the guy who got arrested it's because he posted about some traffic police that were taking drunk tests in the ring you know and usually they're not out in the rain but you can almost be guaranteed that police in China will be not out in the rain so this guy was like fully agree so this guy was like look at these idiots they even like out in the rain taking drug drunk test what's wrong with him you know I call them some bad roads and stuff and he got arrested for that you know so right just for talking about cops imagine you could do that in America so guys it's not the same there have been some very big crackdowns during my time in changing the probably the biggest one I'll just finish off with this is a the university aid which was this big almost like Olympics for universities I guess I mean I don't think anyone knows about it except China really it was they made such a big anything Olympic relay that built like four new stadiums and chindan for that one event like over a huge bigger than any stadium I've seen in American I went I went across America you know and I saw like it was big so called beat the other math you know like they're tiny they're like little Lego toys or something you know like they build all these stadiums they built like Olympic villages and also for a University Games it's ridiculous right well anyway the thing is they made massive crackdowns during that time like before where you could just drive your car and everything's fine they were like now how to drive during these days certain lanes on the road like now only for the university it also it's a weird stuff huge rap dance police everywhere patrolling up and down you know that you never saw before you know just saw such a crazy stuff like that so yeah I've seen it happen a couple of times and then it just goes back to normal again so after this big party conference I think we can expect things will go kind of go back to normal again what are you thinking I want to agree with you but I just keep seeing the stuff build up and build up and build up you know actually I'm of the opinion that China will become more and more restrictive how do they do I agree with you on that actually a hundred percent what I say by the same it's like you think it's gonna live back yeah yeah whatever they're focusing on right now like this whole they're focusing on cracking down on WeChat that's going to revert back to the kind of chaotic way it was before absolutely but if they put the measures in place right yeah maybe not I don't know yeah we'll see but oh and in general definitely you know yeah after these crackdowns it's harder to do but life creeps back you know right so what you see two x payoffs comes back these but yeah totally like just like that town that we were in now right you know exactly yeah so I guess that's all we can say about this topic really this roots some things it's a bad road anything you want to say to our subscribers before we sign up whether you like to crack down or crack up I don't even know what that means whatever if you liked the video please give us a thumbs up helps us out a lot and leave a comment tell us what you think about the crackdowns and does your local government do anything like this and subscribe if you haven't didn't click that little Bell button next to the subscribe button yeah oh absolutely oh by the way um I did forget there is one thing I really do have to say yeah I didn't say is it like last week I was on the Shenzhen Metro yeah and this really big scary-looking army dude in body armor and everything was walking up and down into carriages like with a very mean look on his face ordering everybody that I get out of my way type thing you know like right it's like run you know that kind of thing it is just walk in there like big muscle guy pushing people out the way staring at people in the face like everybody's staring at everyone like not just foreigners but when he's so silly public place yeah in a public place on the Metro on the train when he saw me he came up and he said like wrong you know like move so I moved out of his way but then he walked towards me and pushed me out of the way anyway even though there was tons of space like he had to get his hands on me did you like kind of forced me out the way right and then he pulled out his phone and he stuck it in my face and took a photo of me and then he walked down the carriage we looked at everyone else all the the locals then he turned around there was another foreigner like just a little bit down the carriage walked up to him took a photo of him okay yeah I mean this is another one of those it's before the party conference obviously been given a directive to you know go and harass the foreigners make sure they know sort of like terrorists or whatever you know right man did yeah that's that's quite a big one so it's not what it used to be no it's not whether or not you are one of those distort arable the press what you know a SWAT team horrible people that probably should get cancer or you know you're a nice person who's not like that person we love you all the same actually don't love that guy but now I don't like them either after what you just said either way you know the drill guys stay Hilsum [Music] [Music] [Music] I remember [Applause] I remember
