what's up everyone welcome back to the channel welcome back to the wainscot series yes this is still going on I did not quit it's just this there's this weird stuff that my kids like it's like food or something like that I have to go I get this stuff and then actually I never get this other stuff that my wife likes it's called money have to get that first then go get the food and bring it all back here it's this big thing so it's taking me some time to do it on the weekends I'm just kidding my wife doesn't she's I don't want to give you the wrong impression of my wife she's not like some money hungry but just just stop asking me all these questions man I'm gonna go ahead and build this thing right now in front of you and what you're about to see is actual speed I didn't speed this video up or anything I just don't usually like to work this fast in someone's house because they're probably not gonna want to pay me for the hours I quote them so hey whoever put this floor in look at this oh yeah it was me dang it no actually that's crazy I didn't know how uneven this was so I put a straight edge on it but I don't even know what you would do like you know putting a hardwood floor on a second floor like this you know they already had the OSB subfloor but that just shows you how uneven this is so if I was running some base in here I'm gonna have to describe it but I'm actually going to be using shoe molding in here so that'll solve that problem for me so I'll go ahead and slow down to normal man working speed again but this thing is coming together nicely and it's those little tips and tricks that I've shared with you throughout this series that really make a difference but I was thinking about probably the biggest thing that's helped me in my career as far as getting just perfect results perfect miters perfect copes I think the biggest thing for me personally was always and once I got that I was I was on another level so hopefully that helps you out so we got another nice looking unit right here and over here is the seam that's gonna be behind the door there and I just use three pocket holes and some glue to get that thing going nicely so it's not going to separate on me overtime little in grain to end grain there but I did get some questions on whether or not I should be using glue here at these joints and I never have and I've never had any problems with it but if you want to I mean definitely glue is not going to hurt anything so go ahead and throw some glue on there if you're questioning that but again personal experience I've never had anything like separate with these pocket holes this one's gonna be again a little bit tricky if I just push everything that way I need to be tight up against that door the next unit can hide any slight gap I have over here on this right side so my goal is to have a tight fit into that door and be on the laser line [Music] [Music] also another thing I don't really miss about these guns that have the ramp up time is they don't sound like a dying opossum all right quick little change of scenery here I move the saw back over here to this side of the room where I could cut those long pieces down the hallway there and I had to move this earlier obviously so I could you know build this wall back here and install that unit now the next thing on our to-do list is to go ahead and build the unit for around this window the only problem with this as far as the video is concerned is with all that light from outside it makes it real dark in here so please just bear with me on the lighting I'm gonna try to set it up at angles where you can see what's going on but I'll do my best so thanks for hanging in there with me and let's get right on this wall this thing is still not installed and I could still take it out I can also still move it up and it needs to come up quite a bit so I'm gonna push this thing up and I want my reveal right there so I'm gonna have to shim it up to right about there now the whole purpose of this gap here is so if water ever comes in and gets on this rough seal down here then it won't absorb into this finished window stool and if you ever seen that it's a really bad situation because if it's MDF it's gonna puff up like crazy but if it's pine it'll just crack and this is pine right here so I don't want that we'll bring it up this much and then that pine won't have a chance to absorb any water because there's this void of air right there I just need to shove some shims in there just temporarily like that just till I get my reveal right here where I want it and that's perfectly right there exactly where I want it and now what I can do is I can mark this right here on the drywall and I know when I cut my apron when I when I pocket hold my apron to this vertical style right here there's gonna be a vertical style right there so when I pocket hold this apron that goes under the window I can just have it perfectly in position with pocket holes right there so I'm gonna go over there on the other side of the window do the same exact thing shim the stool up to this reveal right here mark it on this underside right here and then I'll have my exact layout for this unit then I'll take this whole window assembly out put the unit in and then put the window assembly back over on top of it so now that I got it shimmed up on both sides I just want to take a level make sure it's good it's perfect this thing is dead on that's what that advice I was telling you earlier I mean you got to take it so before I take this window assembly back out I need to get a measurement for the top rail from that unit to this casing right here that is going to be 74 and 1116 we'll do this one at 16 inches do 160 6.5 that's 1/2 for you metric guys [Music] so moving right along here I got this little narrow section complete and then this larger section over here complete next thing I need to do is connect these two units right here with that apron and then I'll also have a small vertical style going down the middle right here right exactly where these windows are and I need to figure out how far that apron needs to come down right on the side there and what I've done to figure that out is I got my laser set up right here and I've got it lined up right with the top of that unit over there so I know I'll be completely level here now I can take that laser line and I can measure from that laser line to the pencil line that I made earlier when I was shimming this window assembly up and I have those shims under there this measurement right here whatever that is I'll just transfer that right onto here and then pocket all that apron in all the way over to here same measurement and we'll be good to go and I may have to move that but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it so I'm gonna get on that and that's that's it laser line to pencil line transfer to here connect the two units so we'll do 14 and 1/8 over here and then laser to pencil this is gonna be dead-on 14 and 1/8 I could I could say whatever I want cuz you can't even see it from that far away you're just gonna have to trust me but it is dead-on we're about to find out all right so we'll come down 14 and 1/8 so I made this thing tight enough where I would do a pinch fit for me so I don't have to sit there and fight with it sweet dill pickle so there we go we've got these two sections now connected with that apron and it looks good I like it next thing I need to do is add my little vertical style right here in the middle and it'll line up right with that I'll just measure from there to there - three and a half divided by two and we should be good to go so I went ahead and moved this outlet over here so now it's not going to be right in the middle with my style and obviously to move this over here I had to cut out this rectangular shape and I have this one right here that I just cut out from there and this will actually fit right there so I'm gonna go ahead and patch that up just put it back there and I have a little trick I can show you how you can patch this up there's another way you could do this call it a California patch but I don't have any like spare drywall on me so I'm just going to use this I want to patch this one up because it is an exterior wall and if it just being more insulated probably not a big deal but I have the block so I'll go ahead and patch it so here's the little trick basically I'm just gonna take this little off cut piece of scrap that I can shove up in there and then I can fit right about like that and then I'm going to take two drywall screws and just screw it in and then it'll it'll be set back there so then I can just go ahead and attach that block to this this is kind of like a backer board so this can just lay up against it so you get this little block back there without dropping it I'm just gonna put a little screw right here that I can hold so I'll be able to now hold that shove it up in there and then screw through the drywall but I just hold it with my hand right here so now I can pull this firmly against the back of the drywall and then just take another drywall screw sink that one in sink this one in remove this one and then now our patch has something to lean against all right there we go we are ready to install this all the obstacles have been taken care of and this is an exciting moment I'm gonna pop this thing in here then once I get it lined up with the laser line I'll take this laser down and then I'll set you guys back on the tripod but right now I'm just gonna have to set it on the miter saw so we'll have to deal with whatever camera angle we have right now but then after that we're going to fit the window assembly and actually install that so we're gonna get a lot done within the next 10 minutes and that's usually how this stuff goes most of it's a lot of preparation then once it's all built it gets installed very quickly let's get this thing right up there where it needs to be this is going to be a snug fit and that's going to work to my advantage because I'm doing this solo I don't have anyone to help me out over here get right on our laser line there so now that's held up please be good on this side it's gonna work this is exactly what I wanted to see sometimes I get it right and this is one of those times so before I actually send this thing home and shoot this whole section here I need to put the shims back there because while this is supported somewhat by the apron it's not going to be supported in the back so I'll just stack up some shims that equal the height of the apron and we are good to go so there we go we got our sims to support the back of the stool and this apron right here will support the whole front of it man this looks like a different room it really does I am super happy with this wall I thought this is going to be kind of the weird wacky wall but honestly think it's my favorite part of the room now it's weird how that works but I'm gonna go ahead and pop a couple of nails in this oh one other thing too you'll notice the bottom rail on this is a 1 by 6 that's all I had as far as long pieces so that little tiny section there that will be covered by the base I'll just put in a larger filler strip down here so the base has something like just to rest against because I'm gonna have to put a small one under there but other than that like from here up you're gonna see all the same thing that won't ever be seen so yeah I'm happy with the way this came out I'm happy with all the little transitions I got here all these you know tight areas I'm gonna put a cove molding up under here to the same Cove molding that I used right there in the back band and then all these sections over here came out really tight - you'll have to ignore those two failed nails right there I don't know what happened there definitely think about the painter when you're doing this stuff trying to keep everything tight and since I'm the painter I'm constantly thinking about myself like I don't want to make extra work for me and it's just overall gonna be a nice clean install so there we go that's it this whole room is now completely framed up with the wainscot units and we are ready to move on to trim this is gonna be awesome this is my favorite part so that will probably be the next video after we figure out the casing there all right guys that is going to do it for this video let me know if you have any questions or comments about what I've shown you here in this video as far as building this unit in this configuration with the apron and then fitting this window assembly after the fact or any questions about this in general just let me know and that's it for this one I'll see you guys on the next video take care
