this is Laurie with ardent design CA in today's tutorial we're gonna be creating this cubic squared logo design using Inkscape so let's open up our Inkscape we'll get started we'll go to your file document properties let's uncheck show page border and we'll close out of this menu we'll go to view zoom one to one and then we'll open up our align and distribute edit objects colors gradients menu then we'll go to our squares and rectangles tool on the left here click on that press shift and control create a perfect square and mines rounded because I was using it so I'm just gonna fix that and just so you know just so I can show you if you ever need to square it up you can use this here too this tool here click on that go to our select tool and then we'll go path object to path I'm gonna bring the opacity up on this and years probably is so you don't need to do that so with this square I'm going to press ctrl I'm going to click it up one time then I'm going to right-click on this I'm going to go to duplicate and up here up here we want to put on our snap two paths so these three here put them on and we're going to actually I need to flip that so let's go up here and we'll flip selected objects horizontally and then let's just snap it on right here okay so and then we're going to right-click we're going to go to duplicate again and then we're going to snap it up top here and then let's go to our nodes tool so over here click on the nodes and you'll see our nodes up here let's click on these two here and then let's just drag it down like we're closing the box and snap it on to the other portion there so let's go to the Select tool we'll click off the graphic to deselect it and I don't like the shape of my box so I'm going to select everything I'm just gonna squish it in like that and that's that's a little better that's more box like something like that but not too much so that you wouldn't be able to see the letter that we're gonna put up top here so I'm actually gonna take all three of these black squares I'm gonna turn them blue because I think it'll be easier to see what we're doing here so let's grab the magnifying glass let's zoom in on this let's go to the Select tool now let's select our blue square here we're gonna duplicate this so right click go to duplicate let's turn this one red and then we're gonna go to path dynamic offset and you'll see this little node here we're gonna drag this in just a little bit actually okay before we do that let's turn our snaps off because we don't need them anymore since we've created our cube already so let's pull that in just a couple just a little bit so you get little tiny border there and then when we're satisfied with that we'll go to path object to path to finalize it let's go to the Select tool and we're gonna do the same thing on the other two sides so right click go to duplicate and we'll turn this duplicated copy red we'll go to path dynamic offset let's go to the nodes tool here and we'll shrink that down we'll get the kind of the same padding on this side as we do on this side and when we're satisfied without a gold path object a path to finalize it go up here to this copy select it right-click go to duplicate will turn this copy red and again we'll go path dynamic offset and let's shrink that down to about there and then we'll go path object path to finalize that and click off the graphic so next what we want to do is we are going to put a line around here using the Bezier tool and the purpose of that this is we're gonna be using a tool called perspective and it's very important the starting point so let's click on the Bezier tool is very important that when we when we add our text to this when we add her I used a C and a B for cubic box but whatever your letters are they need to be upright you know you don't want them on sideways you don't want to be on sideways well maybe you do but we're gonna put them upright and we're gonna need our snaps for this so snap and let's click here click here click here click and back to the starting-point to close the box make sure it turns red and let's press shift and white to turn that stroke white and we're actually gonna make it bigger so that it's easier to easier to grab so I'm gonna make it let's try 3 pixels ok that's that's good enough that's easy enough to grab and select click off the graphic and I gotta actually do all three boxes so let's go back to our sorry bezzie a tool this one here and we're gonna start at the bottom and then work our way around in a clockwise manner click and let's press shift and white and then we'll change that to 3 pixels so that we can grab it easy and then we'll start here and here and back to the beginning press shift and white and that will make that 3 pixels make sure you're in the stroke tab fill and Stroke third one over stroke tab ok and these are just guidelines we're gonna end up deleting a lot of this stuff afterwards so these are just guidelines so that our text will go in there let's go back to our select tool and then let's click on this a down here let's create some text so I wrote C and C and s and then I put this little graphic in there so I'm gonna choose C and I'm gonna select it I'm gonna right click go to duplicate and this one I'm gonna triple click and I gotta put the s in there so I'm gonna highlight my text here and then I'm gonna go up here to the text menu and I'm going to click on the in here and I'm gonna type in X scale to try and find my font there it is down at the bottom and I'm gonna click apply and then I'm gonna close it of this menu I don't need it anymore so these two I'm gonna scale them up press shift and control now I like I like this font because it's blocky and curved at the same time so it'll fit my graphic that's gonna go in here this this rounded part here and think it matches quite well so let me put these two clothes for the other what I want to do is I want to make these a little bit thicker so what I'm gonna do is press shift and I'm going to add a stroke to it and I'm gonna go to the stroke style fill a stroke let's choose pixels and let's try three and see how that looks okay that the thing you don't want is it for it to be too too filled in around the the curves of the S the C doesn't look too bad so this I'm gonna stop at three now let's try five and see what that looks like maybe four try that okay I gotta go with four let's select them both I'm gonna go path stroke to path and you'll see what that does path break apart and then let's just select the S here both pieces of the S and we'll go path Union and then let's select both pieces of the C path Union okay so let's go to the fun part here the C is gonna go up top here we put the C up top and the S on the side so that click on the C and then carefully zoom in and press shift and select on the white graphic now you'll see down here that you know that you've got the right color selected it says different but it doesn't have a color so let's say I press shift or if like chose the red you'd see red but we want to choose the text first press shift and carefully select the white object then we'll go to extensions modify path and perspective and you'll get this perspective box and mine's a little slower because I'm recording at the same time but it does take a minute it will take a minute on you're only not quite a minute but it'll take a little bit while it's thinking about what it's doing okay there we go so you see it on top there and that took a little bit longer than I expected so let's press the s here and press shift and select the stroke and they'll go to extensions modify path and back to you perspective and well if we're waiting here just want you to know that it's very important to finalize your text your text must become a path so whether you do it the way I do it finalizing it with a stroke you must go to path and object to path or path stroke to path depending on which method used okay so it's important that these letters be a path before the perspective can be used otherwise it won't work okay so let's um let's design our squares here so let's go to the squares and rectangles tool press shift to control create a perfect square here I'm gonna take the stroke off press shift to take this shift and X down at the bottom here and then let's grab this circle here and we'll pull it down until it's rounded okay now let's click off see if we like that we like that so we're going to go path object to path to finalize that and we're gonna right click go to duplicate press control so we move it down straight oops okay let's take our snaps off otherwise they get in the way when we don't need them okay so I'm gonna press control and I'm gonna move this down maybe about there and then I'm gonna grab both of these I'm going to right click and go to duplicate then I'll press ctrl again and I'm gonna move them sideways to about there I can click off the graphics select this one and I'm gonna scroll over here and I'm going to choose a nice blue color for that and I'm gonna choose Browns because I think blue and brown work very well together and it uses dark brown here and okay I'm gonna grab all of them I'm gonna grip them together and I'm gonna press shift and I'm gonna select this white stroke here I'm gonna go to extensions modify path and perspective okay so we're in there so let's zoom in on our graphic here I'm actually going to zoom in here so let's what we're gonna be doing why we're zooming in is because we need to start deleting stuff and we need to carefully select it so I've selected this white stroke here down here you should be able to see that we've selected the white stroke press delete and we'll start with the white ones because I think they're easier harder just to liked because they're so small okay got it and then delete the red delete the blue let's see this red one delete let's press the minus key on your keyboard and okay there's one more red piece let's delete that and then let's zoom out and have a look so let's select our letters here the C and the S press shift to select them both and press f7 to get your dropper let me just show you the location here I'm on a laptop so the dropper is down here I'm just gonna press f7 that's the shortcut f7 and there's our dropper tool so I'm gonna click with these two selected I'm gonna click and drag over the brown color just to make it more uniform and I'm going to group everything together and I believe we're finished so that is how you can create a cubed graphic using the perspective tool if you liked the tutorial please like subscribe let me know how you did with your version find me on Facebook to get updated on tutorials for Inkscape and as
