having a brief look here now further along the route and this is Luke LeBlanc while we go back to the start house and now we should see Miguel Indurain in their Kingdom the time trials who was actually very upset at being beaten by Chris Paul bond when he lost 15 seconds in the prologue time trial he had ambition to lead this tour from day one to the finish oh but he's done that since four years and injuring goes now I've got to him well hopefully we establish him as the best rider in the business we see we get enduring quickly into his rhythm his hands on the handlebars changing the gear shifts and moving smoothly up the gears it's the first 20 kilometres of this course which is very technical indeed well endurance straight away he's got into his company's position he's flying along at the moment and it's going to be exciting waiting for the first time Jake to come through after six kilometres to see where he is in relations with Chris Boardman as he started the day with a 39 seconds advantage over Borman and Ian in the overall standings so with a number of the top riders still to come there if you didn't catch it but it is man Jana now and this is his opportunity to remind everyone on this race who's been the boss of the Tour de France these past three years beginning in terrain he's such a beautiful rider when he sits in the saddle and there's a car behind shouting him all of the time over the hills some very fast descents very tricky corners his pot just a matter sitting on her bike and petting as quick as you can you need a lot of skill to squeeze out the top speed around some very difficult bends now let's have a look at six and a half kilometres in terrain has been through nine minutes seven seconds that's a tremendous performance isn't it 17 seconds better than Telus quavers and the man that beat him in Lille has already conceived 32 seconds and he didn't even reach the distance that we did in Leo fall exactly that's the difference with riding a Time Trial one week of the Tour de France in fact to be exact nine days because you have the repetitive fatigue that comes in the hard long stages we've had so far and that is why Miguel Indurain has recovered so well in the time trial so far but that is an incredible turnaround of the books 32 seconds ahead of Chris Boardman in six and a half kilometres that really is tomorrow that was the request of his father who was terminally ill and he said if I die join the Tour de France you do not give up the race for me and so he's fitting in the best of both as he can this is now the situation as we move to the 15 point what either find his rhythm and settled down here as we now arrive of EFT this is the 29.8 km/h still the best time and it he's got through portman slipping behind him and we're seeing in terrain and in fact his time has just come through to us and we're now going to tell it to you 20 minutes 23 seconds he's gone through almost a minute quicker and we're only a quarter of a way through the race today now he's hot scheduled to be roaming or by 4 minutes that is unbelievable Roman has said before the start he will be content to concede only a minute to enjoy rain well he's done that already in 15 kilometers when Miguel Indurain has looked very strong since the start of this Tour de France and it's going to be very strange for Lance Armstrong the current world champion and he's about to get caught by in Duran you can see in the rain will just fly by him and then what Armstrong has to do is try and stay within 40 or 50 meters he's not allowed to get into in deranged slipstream and it might help Armstrong to pace himself and try and stay in contact which would increase his chances of doing a good ride but look how fast in the rain has gone by well I know that Lance Armstrong expected in terrain to catch him and who wouldn't but I don't think he expected him to bridge a gap of two minutes in just about 16 kilometres which is 10 miles and so the arrival of Alex alar coming in one of the riders who said he was feeling good and was looking forward to the time trial but his time is not good 18th place at the minute he will be outside the top 20 and Romick is in trouble there's a puncture and a quick bike change for tony romo gap well when you when the chips are down it seems they are always down because enjoy range riding smooth at the moment and gaining time with Ed to every pedal Rev Paul andromeda has problems like that it's almost an action replay of the time trial last year except that he started which is very rapid indeed elissa kilometer will go through the best time so far there it is 37 minutes and 30 seconds for Tony [Applause] in the half-way town of vet on the type-check coming up where it's good to be sensational whatever it is Lance Armstrong still holding him in his sights he called him a long while back well Armstrong doing what he can to keep injuring in his size that'll be a big effort by large but let's look at the time I just look at the clock here injuring aiming for the best time set by Rama ger of 37 minutes 30 and it's going to be or at least a minute faster at least a minute faster one minute 24 seconds indeed better than R Omega for Miguel Indurain but his gains are slowed down well he obviously took a very rapid start and I think helped by the fact that Armstrong started in front of him he saw Armstrong was there but putting the cards on the table straightaway at the first six point five kilometres at time check will be route will be relayed to all the other teams and all the other riders in the race and that for Tony Romo go would be a real blow to his morale but this man the initial speed that he started off with was incredible the thing is now can he keep it up over the last few kilometres because the last 30 kilometres of this time trial are very very hard and I think with the weather conditions today riders have got to be very careful not to dehydrate him which is what he's trying to do now and go by him as we go back now to Miguel Indurain plowing his own little trail along as some way behind Tony Romo ger on the road we saw him though poor rubbish left later in with earlier as if he might be getting trapped in his side I hadn't looked there to see what was happening in fact it was just after he'd taken a buckle at the feeding station and it may well be that he'd just got a little bit of stickiness but he did leave his hand on his thigh for quite a long period of time and it may well be that he had a little bit of a cramp in the top of his thigh but it doesn't seem to be affecting him now because he's back down in that tuck position still pedaling along there at roundabouts 95 revs a minute so he doesn't look as if he's slowing down he doesn't look to me as if he's got any problems at all well I'll tell you the check that will come up for an ex-mob between these two will be most interesting to see if in fact the man on the right ramen ger is closing in on injury who seems to be a little uncomfortable in the second half of this race I think the first six and a half kilometres was the most impressive the amount of time he put up between himself and all his rivals it may well be but that fire start is causing him to slow down a little bit this is Abraham Olano the Spanish champion that's the Spanish champions Jersey you can see on him there that is one of the riders I'm Tony Romo his team a good time Carlos he's going to come through in third place 121 43 in fact this is a man who is the Spanish professional time from prologue but he still put in a tremendous performance in very very hot conditions indeed comes right up the line and drives himself the line it would be second best so far 120 125 on the line for Chris Paul but shakes their head he said he's not good enough but he sets the standard for himself out on the course Tony Romero has gone through 54 kilometres now quicker than Murray who is in quicker than Bauman who is in and quicker than the other two who were also in at the finishing line so the run away quicker than today Mary and Tilly Barry is the best rider in at the finish with a ride of one hour 20 minutes and 43 seconds so we're going to see that wealthy and another band now at the site of bigger engine as well now build up this is the manner is eating into the time desert asset that he had this morning flying along and whatever problems it looks as if he had I don't think he's got any at the moment because on this final part of the time trial course here that really told it's going to be a great time by robbing a three-time a winner of the Tour of Spain and the pre favorite for the Tour de France along with Miguel Indurain today was the moment of truth and Tony Robin has come over the best time so far one hour 17 minutes and 58 seconds now the arrival of Miguel Indurain with a flotilla of people following him a familiar scene indeed and what is going to be a familiar result this brilliant master of the race against the watch so all that is riding at the head of the fence these last eight days it wasn't the psych-out the riders he mean he was feeling good look at that clock the time in the house is robbing go this is going to knock him off the leaderboard by a big way not perhaps as much as we feared after six kilometres today robbing have got better but in terrain held his own all the way on a viciously off day he just takes one more opportunity to settle in and choose his gears he comes up to the line one out 1558 to mated precisely bitter and Tony Romo ger and not as bad as long ago will have thought
