INCREDIBLE Infill Block Plane

today is a very very very good day I am so excited right now um let me move some stuff so last year little backstory real quick last year uh I went to The Woodworking shows in Atlanta Georgia and met a lot of really cool people I met a man named uh Tony Rulo he's on Instagram Hillview WM uh be sure to follow him I'll post the link down in the description below lots of really cool stuff um met a man named Tony relo and uh I've already I was previously following him on Instagram and he surprised me with a a uh Branding Iron with my logo that was super awesome and a bag of Cheez itss I think I don't know if it was him or his friend who gave me the Cheez itss anyway both of them were very much appreciated so been following his work for a while does some amazing stuff and one of the things that he made and showed on Instagram was a uh infill block plane and I believe he made the first one for a prize and a giveaway something like that don't quote me on it um anyway it was amazing it was beautiful it looked great so I met him in um April of last year and then I think it was November is of 2016 he mentioned on Instagram that he was going to make a small production run of infill block planes and he was accepting deposits in December so in December as a Christmas gift to myself I said you know what I'm going to get one of those because they are fantastic looking and uh what better way to support your fellow Craftsmen than um supporting their work directly so that's what's in here I am so excited um let me bring you in closer before I open it up when it comes to unboxing videos I think it's like a requirement that you have one of these pocket knives that flip over really fast so let's get started this is going to be awesome come on Jay Kaizen look at that he made his own uh plane socks too oh this is so awesome check that beauty out let me zoom in wrong way look at that dang that is gorgeous I don't even remember what wood I chose it's got my logo on that look at that H can you see it maybe if I get the light right look at that ah that is so cool and I saw on Instagram picture at the bottom side of the cap Hill view wood and metal 32717 revision two plane number four this is just so stinking cool I don't know if uh you guys are sharing the excitement here but I am so pumped every bit of this minus the blade I think he purchased the blades uh every bit of this was machined by him the the sides are dovetailed into the base uh don't quote me on this but I think he said that the base is uh 01 tool steel metal I think and then the sides are brass man oh man I think I have the focus wrong oh that whole thing was out of focus you're kidding me anyway so so stinking cool I'm going to sharpen this blade real quick and uh take it for a test drive all right so the blade is nice and sharp along the front edge just a single bevel no double bevel or dual bevel and then that Leading Edge is nice and flat all the way across so now let's see we can take it for a test drive so low angle planes are the most difficult for me to adjust uh just because of the way that they are designed uh rather than you know having an adjustment lever so I think I'm a little deep on the left side and I'm grabbing on the left and not the right so if I'm deep on the left I'll put the right side down and put my finger on the blade just so I can get some tactical feedback of how much this blade moves and tap it with something not as hard as the blade and from here not getting anything really so let's Advance it just a little bit getting a little on the left a little on the right I think that's good enough so I'll tighten this just just a little bit more and bring you in closer all right so put a little chamfer on the back side and I can't remember if I've said it or not but this is a piece of Hickory and this is endig grain and it is Flawless through this Hickory nice consistent even end grain shaving that is so satisfying something I really like about this plane just after using it for well however long this video is just holding it right here the front is way way way more comfortable putting your full thumb across here to use the plane as normal with two hands compared to uh my other uh rabbiting block plane where you have this little button or handle up here this is it's a little too high once once you get used to this thing this is really really nice that blade is really nice too holy moly oh I could do this all day so this is quite obviously my new favorite toy um this anytime you have the opportunity to support a fellow Craftsman uh please do so it it's it it goes a lot longer in the long run supporting the little man rather than large corporations uh so if you guys aren't familiar with again Tony Rulo on Instagram check him out it's Hillview WM uh and yeah man I I can't thank you enough this was this turned out just beyond my expectations so so cool I I love the feel of this thing it's got It's got some good heft to it uh but the lower profile than my other block plane as well as the the lower front part just make this a lot more user friendly end grain Hickory that's so cool um anyway check out hwm on Instagram there'll be a direct
