[Music] thank you [Music] power levels now you guys might be like yes power levels the measure of how powerful the character is in the story yes like to see if the character that I'm sexually attracted to could beat this other sorry-ass character and if they can't I would cry and destroy everything in my entire room but now let's take it back to about 2009 I'm on the couch and the TV is currently playing a movie called Iron Man and I'm looking at it and I remember thinking wow I I love Iron Man this is the coolest guy fast forward like seven years I'm in the theater watching Captain America Civil War and then I was just in shock I didn't actually expect them to pick a winner but their Iron Man was beaten defenseless Arc Reactor shattered and all he could do was talk I don't remember specifically feeling sad or mad but I knew that I hated this feeling of seeing Iron Man lose of course he could lose to some random villain but this was different this felt definitive now right now you might be thinking wow kid you used to be a weirdo and you would be correct but surprisingly or honestly unsurprisingly there are millions of man children like this on the internet look at the Civil War comments section today you still have people clearly very emotional about their fictional Idols like if it was real there is an entire YouTube genre where fictional characters are put up against each other and what's the main reason people watch this content is it fun speculation to see what would happen no of course not it's just a bunch of goofballs looking for validation on their favorite guy look at this Doom Guy versus Master Chief video you know pretty fun analysis and oh you see what they did wrong they made Master Chief the winner basically guys if you weren't aware if some software made doomguy an Unstoppable God of Rage that can't be beaten which if the story wasn't already bad enough like yes I love the fact that doomguy could realistically wipe out everything in two seconds that makes the game so much better and that's why I need to see another full length versus video because a fight between a grounded well-written character and a [ __ ] God Is So compelling and interesting to me and definitely not because I'm a man child Doom fan and then we arrive to Hell Tick Tock edits not only are they full of insecure man children the criteria is illogical you bring up all these different categories like some of them would even matter in a fight and then you weigh them as equals and pick a winner like yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah exactly exactly yeah Superman loses the captain [ __ ] America like you goof balls are working tirelessly just for some fake uh Second Place medal Uncle Grandpa is the most powerful character in fiction you like Goku [ __ ] you you like prep time Batman go cry about it you dumb [ __ ] you want to bring up Darkest Night why don't you bend over her to take this laser Hammer up your ass Uncle Grandpa is a fifth dimensional being he physically can't get hurt he's malleable on a molecular level he can't die he always has access to different dimensions he can pull out anything is the most powerful character in the universe and Uncle Grandpa clapped him without even trying your fictional boyfriend loses to Uncle Grandpa and if you disagree you're sorry laughs the writers the writers just like deleted guys say the writers decide who wins the fight like these dudes are so stupid looking up to these fake characters for being written with the pencil and paper literally anybody could make a God to your character like why the [ __ ] do you idiots care this is literally fiction nobody worked hard for your favorite superhero to be powerful it was a decision the writers decide the writers the writers decide who wins wait the writers are [ __ ] stupid it's 2018. I'm watching black panther for the first time and I actually remember really liking the movie but years later I come back and this movie is a bad movie and the worst part about it is the fact that t'challa loses the entire Kingdom because of shitty power levels t'challa was supposed to be the protector of wakanda he trained his entire life he's supposed to be this combat expert and he loses to a fit guy with military training the only reason he lost was because the plot needed him to lose why would I care about the narrative if it doesn't follow its own rules one stupid mistake like this ruins the stake's intention because now you can't rely on anything nothing is more disheartening when experiencing a story than when an annoying contrivance like this is the only reason the entire story happens consistent power levels in superhero media feels very neglected because it's honestly treated like WrestleMania most of the time Infinity war is one of the most beloved Marvel movies it's a mess okay so here we have the two strong Avengers Vision in Wanda Vision has a super powerful laser he can fly he's made a vibranium he can become intangible in Wanda who's kind of like a telekinesis God and oh oh my God oh my word they're getting B and how are these new guys so powerful oh my God Captain America Black Widow and Falcon who are basically just buffed humans run guys please you're not strong enough okay oh all right oh holy crap guys Thanos is so powerful he just turned everyone into Blobby pieces without even trying how were the Avengers going to get past this oh oh wow oh wow he's actually getting hit wow oh oh my god wow he just refused to use the reality Stone and now he's gonna lose crazy oh wait why are you why are you hitting him oh he's out and oh oh wow he won oh you never once used your greatest weapon yeah why didn't Doctor Strange just use the time zone he could have just froze time and then portaled everyone in half like this very movie shows that he can do also now Thanos uses the stones all right oh wow where's Thor is he doing right now oh he's here now and oh my God he's throwing the ax through the power of all six Infinity Stones and oh stormbreaker's such a powerful weapon holy crap oh nice now so some flimsy acts awesome I love Marvel it's awesome it's amazing Infinity war and end game basically throw all logic out the window just to be a crowd-pleasing spectacle but despite this Infinity war is still one of the best MCU movies it's really well paced and the characters are good but in a movie where the main theme is dread and the stakes are this artificial it's impossible to take seriously so I guess the question is how much does a consistent plot matter well it comes down to each specific story in an individual's view of it that I don't even think there's a real answer for this question I have talked a lot about speedsters in the writing inconsistencies but honestly I don't think a Speedster losing in a contrived way has ever negatively affected my enjoyment of whatever media they were in I could say that contrivances wouldn't stick out more in a goofy movie but Infinity War takes itself super seriously plot inconsistencies are as objective as you get when it comes to criticizing media and they are fair criticisms because they could realistically affect someone's enjoyment the truth is that both enjoyment and a consistent plot can be achieved simultaneously and you can write great stories with consistent power levels so I guess what I'm trying to say with this video is that Uncle Grandpa demolishes your favorite guy
