In Residence: Mattia Bonetti

My idea of a home is that homes should resemble the people who live in I think it was uninhabited for at least 15 or 20 years so when it came I loved it because it was still in its original conditions There is a mixture of furniture, antique furniture existing that I inherited from my parents because they were antique dealers and I also introduced some pieces that I produced for my galleries so those are additions I always lived with that fish at home In Italian it's called the "luccio" The painter was a local painter here so I think it has a relationship and it's something quite logical to be here The size corresponded to what I wanted I wanted a nice living room a few bedrooms I didn't want anything big The floors are made in the same place with the same clay where they made it for centuries here on the lake The frescoes are original to the house and they had those corners with flowers so I thought from there work on the wall sconces on the same theme of flowers which I made myself, with my own hands and painted, and tried to imitate the color of the ceiling There is some humor, definitely, yes some playfulness in my work It's not always there, not systematically but there is, there is, definitely Mainly, I always wanted something on the water because I swim every day of my life Water is an element I need to live with and to be near to To be frank, I never really worked here I usually work in places that are very anonymous almost gloomy whereas when the scenery is being so beautiful I can't work Unfortunately, I think that there is a big uniformity all over the world that makes everything very, very similar and very impersonal very little imagination, I think I guess it resembled me, this house, somehow I can dream
