just before we get into this video guys if you wanted to follow me on social media on Twitter and Instagram the links are here and if you also want to support me on patreon as well and help out my channel that would be absolutely awesome as well but let's get on with the video hey guys it's windy here and welcome to a brand new video now I was asked in patreon a question about what Doctor Who stories would I do or take and improve so it's essentially like the how to fix series that I did a while ago but talking about individual episodes of Doctor Who and to be honest this was actually quite easy because there are three different series finales that were just such a major letdown like the first part was quite interesting or it had a really great plot idea and then the second part really let it down and if you can kind of gather from Peter Capaldi being in the thumbnail of this video it's every single one of the twelfth doctor's series finales and basically what I would do to improve them the real frustrating thing about Peter Capaldi's era of Doctor Who is the fact that like I said at the start of this video the first part of the finales are really interesting or they've got something about them that makes them really stand out but then the second part is atrocious but what would I do to improve them so first and foremost then let's do it in order and we'll start with dark water it's lush death in heaven now this is a story that I thought a while ago yep's crap not interested however having rewatched it recently I've got to admit it's not as bad as I thought it was and considering the other two I would say that as a story overall this is probably the best one I still think though the world and often time on its own is one of the greatest Doctor Who episodes ever but the doctor Falls was so soul that lost her but we'll get to that so the basic premise then of dark water is Danny pink is dead and he goes to the promised land the afterlife the nethersphere whatever you want to call it and basically Missy okay the master is using the dead and converting them into Cybermen now right there and then I was just like sweet Gus that's a really good idea borderline too far for Doctor Who or a lot of stuff actually the whole don't cremate me stuff yeah just really talk but that's kind of what you want to see from Doctor Who you want to see it push the found reason edge closer and closer to the line of what is and is not acceptable the problem for me that I have with death in heaven is that it totally itself up its own ass because what you end up with is Missy doing all of these things not to take on the doctor not to invade the rest of the universe or earth or you know whatever it might be she just wants her friend back and it's a bit just like oh okay in a story like that there's no real threat level the threat level right there and then it's just gone it's heartbreaking thinking that well people who have died they're now going to be Cybermen and these Cybermen are going to take over the universe but we know as the audience that the doctors never going to do that even with the whole am I a good man thing there was a common thread throughout with all of series eight plus you've also got the stuff with Danny pink and Clara which I hate personally not just because I hate Clara but I hate their relationship it's not believable I'm not invested in those characters and I just don't think that their relationship was developed enough for Clara to warrant some of her reactions throughout the entire story to hold TARDIS throwing well TARDIS key throwing scene being one of them I don't see them being that close so the holes love is a promise and he will never hurt her one it's because I don't buy the relationship and two it just doesn't work for the Cybermen Simon Mann shouldn't have I mean we saw it in when 2006 so like what was it eight years prior to this Cybermen if they get emotions their head explode so why is it fine now I think what Moffat really should have done was made Missy a threat a genuine threat you know killing Osgood that's one thing who cares but actually make her a villain whereas in this she seems almost like an antihero and if you want to go that direction with the master I don't necessarily disagree with it but I just don't think that the execution in this one was done well enough and I think throughout Missy's tenure as the master I don't really think that she is a threat at all she's insane and she will kill people yeah but she's basically a Deadpool type character you know someone who's batshit crazy and we'll do some bad things but overall isn't that bad whereas you want the master to be the arch-nemesis so have Missy convert the dead of the doctors beloved earth and use those Cybermen to take over the universe or maybe to get revenge on beings who have wronged the master in the past and the doctor has to stop the master or Missy in this case cut out all the with Danny pink and Clara just be like yep he's dead that's it he's a Cyberman now that for me would have more emotional weight than him fighting the conversion and still loving her because love is a promise you know you could argue that in fact this was a good conclusion to the am I good monarch but personally I just don't think that it was I think it was actually a quite weak ending for that maybe miss he wants to restart the time war again I don't know there's a few things that you could have done but the main thing that I would have done to fix that is actually make the Cybermen and Missy a genuine threat not just I've converted all these people so I'll give you an army because I mean I'm young I'm your friend I know you you're never gonna use this but I've done it anyway what she's essentially done is bought the doctor a Lynx Africa dieldrin set I mean there's a bit of thought there but he's never gonna use it is it so then we come to the next one which I'm imagining people are gonna be like here we go here we go no it's hell-bent obviously now the thing is with help and what's really frustrating is it is so easy to see what is wrong with that story of what you would do to fix it heaven-sent for me was essentially the doctor morning getting over Clara's death and get out of his system and it is a beautifully written episode I think there's a couple of dodgy scenes but overall it is a brilliant performance and Capaldi is incredible so then to go from that and again do a sort of 180 and we have this story where the doctor goes back to Gallifrey which should have been a monumental moment in the new series because this is the first time he's been back to Gallifrey since he thought he destroyed it instead what we get is a little bit of that the docs are eating soup about in the sand people watching to me some weird old woman in a barn and then he goes and rescues Clara again and it's like you've just undone what happened in the previous episode which was genius so for me hell-bent should have been total Gallifrey it should have been the doctor going back to Gallifrey getting revenge on the Time Lords for putting him through the confession dial for the time war in the first place maybe even overthrowing Rassilon and then becoming the president but then sort of rejecting it at the end because that's what the doctor would do we've seen him do that multiple times I just wished that the doctor would accept Clara dying because that I thought in face the Raven was handled really well again like I say with heaven s'en the way that that was handled does it really well so to see this doctor who has literally nothing to lose now go back and save his own planet save the planet that he thought he destroyed and in a way get rid of some of his own demons that would have been a much much better finale and I imagine for a lot of funds a lot more impactful than I'm just saving that that woman that I was with for a bit I mean it's your home planet honestly people who like health and tell me what would be more impactful saving Gallifrey or one person and I know it doesn't really matter to the doctor you know whether it's one person or one billion people but come on so yeah how I would fix hellbent just focus on Gallifrey and have it as a bit of a Western standoff overthrowing the power and then off again simple and then lastly we come to know what I'd actually say the most frustrating one because whilst I think Heaven Sent is incredible world and often time for me was almost a perfect Doctor Who episode I think the little bit of the beginning where miss is just like I'm dr. loot no now I can live with this whole thing that I hate is the doctor Falls because that is so bloated it's so bogged down it's messy and it doesn't really follow on from the tone or the story that preceded it and that for me was so so devastating actually because you guys know how I feel about the Cybermen I thought we were about to get not only the perfect Cyberman story but we also get John Simm buck and we have two masters on-screen at once and seeing a master opposite a different doctor is something that I really enjoy so obviously like in the 80s Anthony Ainley popped up throughout the entire thing from Tom all the way till Sylvester and it was nice to see the master interact with different incarnations and with Capaldi it would be interesting to see John Sims version who is very much like an anti ten and face off against a doctor who is totally different unfortunately though what we get instead is some about on a farm bill again why Muffet feels the need to Cybermen don't need to worry about their emotions anymore and it's fine and she's just herself but a Cyberman the masters literally do all they just sit around on this farm for no reason and they're essentially just hiding from the Cybermen it was so lackluster and boring and when it could have been phenomenal like have bill permanently be a Cyberman that's it now she's gone she's just a Cyberman John Simm mentioned earlier in one of the stories or one of the parts I can't remember which one it was but he mentioned that he was the reason as to why it happened so you could have had the entire civilization come after John Simm because they realized that he is who he is and then when the doctors making that speech of you know I do what I do because it's right where I stand where I fall all this sort of stuff and it would have had a lot more impact if he was trying to protect the master and sort of explain that you know that's what it's like to be a good person like look at all the lives that you've ruined and potentially then you can even have that conflict with Missy still but it would feel more deserved not just you know yeah we're just gonna you know do a thing sit here for a bit then you have a Pappas and then she has a change of heart it doesn't really feel warranted it I don't really get a sense of why Missy actually turned on the master not at least for plot reasons in this story anyway but then again in the bigger context of series 10 you could argue that but for me I think if you had a bigger storyline where it's like this story is the catalyst where she's like oh maybe the doctor does actually have a point not just him randomly making a speech I mean Weldon often time is genuinely one of these best portrayal of the Cybermen I think I've ever seen in the TV show and there are a lot of great Cybermen stories but this one I think was borderline perfection like I say however the second part it just doesn't match that soul and I wish it did because the Cybermen in this feel creepy they feel like something out of a horror film you know with the patients and the slowly converting into Cybermen and you see bits and pieces added I think if you kept that up and not just make them cannon fodder I think that would have been a lot more impactful I properly have it has got wrench in not just like well the Cybermen know you could have had it as you still see that slow conversion build and build and these people who are on floor 500 or whatever it was like you see them get trucked away you see them gets converted you see them all slowly develop into Cybermen and it's a slow burner as everything unravels around them and the doctor has got to prevent this this horrible thing that the master has started applause it's even more personal now because bill is already one of the Cybermen like that's why he's doing it not necessarily just because it's the right thing to do you know help everyone else but there's a much much bigger stake there and the doctor almost has a bit of revenge for the master but then he makes that speech and he's still just like you know what what you did was awful but I still want to help you however obviously that wouldn't have been as good as sitting around on a farm with people that we don't care about for an hour now that was just as good I think the main thread throughout this entire thing all three of these stories is that Moffat simply could not follow through with a genuinely great idea he said in an interview with dogs and who the funchal and I mentioned the same point in my series stem review at the time and I still stand by it he said something like doctor who is supposed to be hopeful and it's not supposed to be gritty and you know in the end everything will be okay and again like I sort of said in that review I don't necessarily disagree with that but I think the problem with Moffat has or had in Doctor Who was that he set up a story he made it dark he made it gritty he did things that should have been irreversible and yet he still makes it hopeful and reverses those things and it is so frustrating I'm okay if you want to do the happy ending but you can't keep killing characters off and then bringing them back because you want to be hopeful you do one of the other I think the biggest problem with a lot of these stories is he starts out with such a great idea but he has to do something else with it he can't just stick with it can't just be like okay this is where this story is going so I'm gonna take it further so I think a lot of these stories would have benefitted from somebody saying like listen right I know you want to do your twist and all you want to do your turns and all this sort of bollocks but maybe just maybe finish the story that you've started I mean obviously there is plenty of other Doctor Who episodes where I do feel like they could benefit from different versions you know whether it's I mean something like the end of time maybe I think could have been a much better story I think army of Golson doomsday could have been a better story as well but these are just the main ones in my head that I just thought they consistently have the same problem and for me at least I thought of a couple of ways that I personally would improve them now some of you might be thinking what you said was terrible I leave them as they are by any rate that was what I think that's how I would improve those certain stories in the comments though guys below let me know what you think do you think my versions are alright what stories would you improve how would you improve them how would you improve the stories that I mentioned all that sort of stuff if you enjoyed this video make sure you leave a like on it subscribe for
