Image Of God - Author of Life

[Music] i look up at your macro skies dark and enormous your handmade sky jewelry moon and stars mounted in their settings then i look at my micro self and wonder why do you bother with us why take a second look our way yet we've so narrowly missed being gods bright with eden's dawn light you put us in charge of your handcrafted world repeated to us your genesis charge made us lords of sheep and cattle even animals out in the wild birds flying and fish swimming whales singing in the ocean deeps psalm 8 echoes what we learn in genesis chapter 2 and 3 that we humans are made in the image of god humans are fundamentally unique both to god and in comparison to the rest of creation we humans house god's very image to know him intimately to his son jesus christ we are also different than the rest of creation in that god gave us a job or a charge to caretake to be responsible for all of creation it says in genesis 1 26 this let us make mankind in our image in our likeness so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky over the livestock and all the wild animals and over all the creatures that move along the ground yet science also tells us a story about the origins and place of humans in our created world across the disciplines of geology and biology astronomy and physics all of these disciplines point to us that all of living things is a product of an intricate process taking billions of years that process is called evolution we humans are part of that process we are part of the animal kingdom you see we have five digits on our hands and feet just like any other primate our appendix tailbone ear muscles and chicken skin are reminders of our non-human kinship you see both scientists and theologians agree that we humans along with the rest of creation share a common story but while we share many things we are different because god chose us humans out of all the rest of the other organisms on this earth to be his image bearers we humans have a drive in each one of us to give to contribute to share and to create for others my name is danny carvalho and i play hawaiian music specifically i play a style of hawaiian music called slacky guitar and i also sing and when i'm you know when i'm playing music what i feel is a three-way connection one channel of that connection is between me and where the music is coming from sometimes i could say it's god the other channel of connection is between me and who i'm playing for the audience sometimes again it's god [Music] we desperately want to find a way to contribute something to the world something no one else can do quite like us my name is kim hee wong and i have a passion for dancing hula hula is the ancient hawaiian way of storytelling and stories are passed down through generations through hula and through the different motions with the hands peace happy calm there's different emotions with each song they all mean different things but every time i dance i think of my family and i think of it as a way for me to honor i guess the past present and future so those around me and those who support me and in the future everything that will happen i know that i can connect back to my roots through hula our purpose in life is to participate in bringing god's peace or shalom to the world hi i'm nina oishi and i love to write well for me the world can be kind of crazy and kind of chaotic and i often feel like i'm kind of lost with everything that's going on but when i go back to my journal or when i go back to my essays and i start writing it's like everything becomes clear through the words i've always really identified with that passage from the bible in the beginning there was the word and i know it's about god's message to the people but for me there's always been something really powerful about the fact that it's the words i think that's just so beautiful that when i'm writing and it's good i just feel like there are these phrases pouring out of me and these words pouring out of me and i feel like i get to be being part of this tradition of poetry and truth through writing and i really love that inside each of us is a burning desire to make or build or write or dance or play or heal or organize god has chosen you and placed his very image in you so that you will participate in his creative masterpiece of the world [Music] you
