hey everyone it's Ben Hardy here and you all saw the title of the video so you know what this is about so here's how this is going to go I'm going to first start things off on a positive note I'm going to talk about the positive things that I've had you know experience-wise owning Fords and then yeah we'll get into the juicy stuff and we'll talk about my plans moving forward and so with that being said let's get into it so let's start things off with a little bit of backstory as we are in the back of my Bronco wapor the Ford that I currently own so I just counted and over the last 10 years I've owned 10 Fords that is absolutely crazy so I've basically averaged one Ford per year some years I've owned multiple other years I've only owned you know one or you know some years none basically but yeah that's the average I've owned 10 Fords so you know with that and also with the reviews I'm pretty dang familiar with the brand I figure the next best thing to do is to talk about the different Ford models that I have owned to paint a little bit of a picture of what my experience uh would have been like for you guys so the first Ford I owned was a Ford Freestyle like a 2005 had a lot of miles and had a lot of problems that car only lasted me 6 months before it just didn't work anymore and that was that was my first experience with Ford definitely a very positive experience um but after that I've owned a lot of very similar cars from Ford so Focus RS a few Raptors including this Bronco Raptor a bunch of Mustang must I've actually owned four Mustangs two 500s and then two 350s and yeah that pretty much sum sums things up so basically Raptors Mustangs and then the Oddball would be the Ford Freestyle so having owned that many Fords I obviously had a positive experience with the brand or else I wouldn't have bought so many and so let's talk about that positive experience so first off the biggest thing that I think that stands out in terms of the experience with Ford that's positive is the unique Drive so the Raptors nothing drives like a raptor whether it's a Bronco Raptor or an F-150 Raptor I haven't driven the ranger Raptor quite yet but I'm sure it's going to have a very unique feel in the midsize pickup truck market and then you look at the other cars that I owned the Focus RS nothing drives like a Focus RS it's such a fun car and then uh the other one would have been the Mustangs right and then also the Ford Freestyle nothing drives quite like a for I'm just kidding anyways the the Mustangs right you know you look at the flat plane crank vehic in the Shelby GT350 just a really fun Driving Experience and so I think that's something that Ford does a really good job with is building cars that look cool they look unique feel unique Drive unique and are just an absolute blast to drive and to really hit home with this point I mean look at the Bronco Raptor it is crazy nothing else looks like a Bronco Raptor and then you look at the interior on this and it is such an exciting interior I mean you've got these like race car bucket seats crazy steering wheel with big paddle shifters again nothing is quite like a raptor I mean the shocks too that's another thing crazy live valve shocks nobody else is really doing this I mean ram did it a little bit with the TX but they're already out of the game pretty much and then the next thing that I'd say is pretty positive has been resale with some of Ford's products so the Raptors always seem to do pretty well same thing with the Mustangs and what generally happens with Fords is they you know just like most new cars they'll depreciate right initially but then they always kind of just hit this bottom line and then they just stick there you've seen that with the Raptors you've seen that with the special Mustangs as well and then the other thing is maintenancing with Ford maintenancing with Ford is super easy cuz there's tons of dealerships and it's also really inexpensive I mean something like a raptor you can keep that on the road for like I don't know like a couple hundred bucks a year in terms of maintenance cost with to rotations oil changes all of that kind of stuff and so you know good resale value paired with low maintenance costs means that even though the vehicles themselves can be more expensive from an MSRP perspective the actual ownership cost doesn't end up being as much as what it is with some other automakers now there's more that I could say with this section but I want to move on to the next section so to quickly cap things off Ford makes really unique product within certain segments it's so fun to drive it's pretty inexpensive to maintain and on top of that it's easy to get maintenance with the vehicles and then the ownership cost is not as expensive as some other vehicles because Fords hold their value pretty well again within certain segments and so yeah just i' would say you know if you're going to be I guess buying and selling cars over a relatively short period of time so like you're can keep the car for one two years then it's actually a really positive experience with owning a Ford so the first thing that's you know more on the negative with Ford is going to be the build quality their modern Bel quality definitely slipped other automakers too but I mean look at the Grab handle it's got some give the center console I feel like is the best like look at that this is a $100,000 vehicle the center console Jiggles and wiggles like that uh and like I said other automakers have this thing too but that's been something that has been an issue with Ford is just you buy a vehicle and it's expensive and then it doesn't have the best build quality and then the other thing is going to be reliability so I'm not here to say that you know Fords fix or repair daily because that's not the reality of the situation but there are some inherent reliability problems with some of Ford's models and again the models we're talking about in today's video like the Raptors every single Raptor has to have his cam phasers replaced at some point or just F-150 in general but especially the Raptors like if you own a raptor up to higher mileage you're going to have to replace the cam phasers and it's like why can't Ford figure out a fix to this problem again I'm not an engineer so I don't know what the answer is but there is that uh but the good thing is most of the issues are at higher mileage but there are some issues at lower mileage and this is where I'll talk from my personal experience every single Ford that I've owned pretty much has had some sort of issue and it's not been super high mileage that Bronco needed a new battery at like 800 miles my gen 3 raptor was was less problematic but it did have some weird stuff with the sunroof and it had some creeks and rattles pretty early on in the mileage like I think after like 2 or 3,000 mies it was already starting to Creak and and that kind of goes to the build quality with it my Gen 2 Raptor there is some stuff that was definitely my fault but like it had engine knock at I think like 4,000 Mi and like that that did not make any sort of sense um the GT350 that the last one I own that had some issues with the brakes like there's just all these things that uh happen and they don't necessarily happen at high mileage now the good thing is Ford is amazing at covering things under warranty I've had a really good experience with the warranty coverage but it's a little bit disheartening when every single vehicle that I buy happens to have some sort of issue over the ownership experience and not at higher mileage right under 10,000 mi in most cases now there are more cons that I could talk about just like how I could talk about more positives in the Ford worlds but that's kind of the important stuff for me personally and so you can put that all together and you can see why I've owned so many Fords because my ownership experience with vehicles over the last like 10 years has been new vehicle you know every year roughly every 2 years depending on the vehicle but I talked about how moving forward on the channel I don't want to do that anymore I want to own vehicles for a longer period of time that's why I bought the 200 series Land Cruiser that I have in the shot here behind me and so because I plan on owning vehicles for longer I've looked more into long-term ownership costs and again Ford is not necessarily worse than other automakers but the product that I buy because of how crazy it is like the Raptors with the shocks and the engine and all that it does happen to be more expensive to maintain over the longterm cam phasers those are expensive uh rebuilding fock shocks that is not cheap whatsoever again there's a big benefit of how crazy capable it is off-road but yeah there's a downside of when you own it long term that it is more expensive and so because I don't plan on churning through Vehicles more often the you know things that you do have to fix and the reliability concerns that they're more important I mean again that's exactly why I bought the Land Cruiser this vehicle it's well documented that you can go 200 300,000 Mi and pretty much just do battery replacement oil change tire rotation like not a whole lot of stuff but the reliability is not enough reason the next thing comes down to lifestyle changes so I'm showing you guys the payload on the Bronco Raptor 1,019 lb and the cargo area here also if you happen to be named John jenx I think these are yours I honestly can't remember but if they are yours then it's in this video and you should probably get them out of the back of my Bronco Raptor at some point also if you're looking for a new Ford John Janks I bought like 10 almost 10 Fords cuz one of them wasn't from the freestyle I bought when I was like a teenager but anyways like nine Fords from anyways you can see how the cargo area is built in the Bronco it's it's relatively vertical but there is some limitations of the space and this now leads us to the crescendo of today's video the cargo area and the payload capacity so everything that I mentioned in today's video is real when it comes to the pros and the cons the cons are not nearly big enough to push me away from the Ford brand I love the product so much and I love the brand so much that I I any of that stuff I will deal with it it is not a problem whatsoever however what is more of a problem is that my wife and I have recently had a really big lifestyle change you know we had our daughter just over a year ago and that obviously causes a lot to change in your life but we've also recently discovered that my wife although she thought she hated off-roading she actually enjoys off-roading but of course the style of off-roading that my wife enjoys is the Overland style and I don't blame her because Baja driving and raw crawling is stressful and it makes your tummy hurt especially if you are the passenger and so with that being you know something that is important to us moving forward we got to have a solid overlanding rig now we could use the Land Cruisers I'm still debating on that that's something that is still definitely on the table but the thing that's pushing me away from that is again I plan on using mine and hers as our daily drivers for the next 10 to 15 years and off-roading a vehicle on a regular basis which is what we plan on doing it puts a lot of wear and tear on the vehicle so I'm still having that debate in my head and so back to Ford They Don't Really offer a solid overlanding vehicle the Broncos don't really have enough payload they're they're great for the driving again this is I've said it before and I'll say it again this is the best vehicle when it comes to overall off-roading from the factory it's great at rock crawling it's great at highspeed off offroading it's really comfortable all that and then you know if we want something that has a lot of payload like an F150 it's just a little bit uh too big Ford doesn't really offer like a bigger SUV that is body on frame solid rear axle independent front suspension or solid front axle like what you can get from some other manufacturers uh like you know we looked at the new inos Grenadier again that's that's one that we're still not completely sold on it but that that's one that we're looking into and so if we didn't have this lifestyle change this wouldn't even be a video I would still just be going down the Ford route but because this is something that's going to be in our life where we're going to be going on these off-road Adventures it looks like there again not 100% but it looks like there might have to be a change let me know what you guys think in the comment section below let me know what you think we should you know do in terms of the vehicle if we do decide to go this route we're we're not going to use one of the Land Cruisers for overlanding because we trying to keep them somewhat nice for daily driving for the next 15 years um again any scrad is something that we looked into uh there's new Lexus GX and the new Land Cruiser as well there there's some options out there that have again solid payload good space all of that so I'll see you
