attention and be serious of all the things that make you happy well this video is about doing just that how would you like to figure out your ikki guy otherwise known as your life's purpose in the next 30 days you can do it it's gonna be 30 days of work that will be fascinating and fun but you can do it and you'll be thankful that you did I'm Tim tamashiro author of how to iki guy iki guy is the ancient practice of life's worth and it comes from Okinawa Japan coming up in this video you'll learn three steps for discovering you're a key guy in the next 30 days and at the end of the video you'll find a link to an e key guy worksheet that will help you along the way and beyond this might be the most amazing 30 days of your life it's coming up [Applause] if you're like most people you might have a tough time understanding what brings you meaning each day personal meaning and purpose are challenging things to figure out for each of us but there's a little place that is situated on the edge of the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea where the practice of daily meaning has been a big part of life for over 2,000 years this place is Okinawa Japan and that's where they practice iki guy iki guy means life's worth iki guy is the reason why you get excited about waking up each day and the best news is iki guy comes with a map and this map has four directions do what you love and do what you're good at do what the world needs and do what you can be rewarded for it sounds wonderful doesn't it but it's also quite challenging you see the hardest part of iki guy is to come up with the answers for those first two directions on the map what do you love and what are you good at so for the next 30 days you will focus on those two questions this video will help you with the process and to accomplish this you'll do it in three sections the first section is to explore the second section is to zero in and the third section is to ponder for step one you will need a packet of post-it notes and a wall step one is to explore this step will take up the majority of the next 30 days for the next three weeks in fact your work is to explore your every desire and I told you this is gonna be fun right make a list of all the things that fascinate you or get you excited about life or maybe even just the little things that you're curious about this step is all getting to know yourself better it's about finally scratching those little itches that you've been wondering about all your life step one is about doing more you and that's the essence of purpose isn't it to do more you so you'll start by sitting down for about an hour to make a list remember take your pleasure seriously if you can't invest an hour into making a list of everything that you love then I'm afraid tomorrow you'll have exactly the same thing as you have today so get serious about it make a list of all the things that you've always been interested in is it music or watercolors cooking volunteerism travel making new friends maybe you want to work with your hands do some pottery or maybe you like dogs or cats or sports or fitness just consider everything that fascinates you and be specific write down each fascination and interest on to its own specific post-it note and stick it up there on the wall be exhaustive about this list essentially you are making a vision wall for the next 21 days do as many of these things on the wall that you can pick the ones that you're most excited about doing first your work for the next three weeks is to gather intuitive and practical information about what brings you joy studies show that effective decision-making comes from balancing too little information with too much information exploring will help you gather stimulus and input about what works for you and what doesn't you'll start to understand what you're emotionally attached to and what is just a bit of a flight of fancy as you dive into your passions and start doing them one by one move your completed items over to another separate part of the wall this is considered your I did that list so your work for the next three weeks is to explore all the things that fascinate you and it's gonna be a ball go and explore at the end of three weeks you'll be ready for the next step step number two step two will require one day of work your task on day 22 is to zero in on what purpose feels like to you you're past three weeks of exploring has provided you with a treasure trove of information about yourself take a look at all the activities that you accomplished in the previous three weeks what was most thrilling what was your least favorite thing to do that was there anything that surprised you would you do anything specific again what pleasure could you take more seriously keep your most favorite things up on the wall remove everything else and now write a story for each item that is still up on the wall write about what happened when you were doing this particular activity write in the most free-flow way possible don't worry about spelling or neatness do it on your computer or with pen and paper just write about the feelings or what you noticed or how each activity lifted you write one story for each post-it note that is left up there on the wall take an hour take three hours take eight hours take as long as you like but at the end of day 22 you'll have zeroed in on a few very special things that thrill you and you might start to see a common thread what keeps popping up over and over again is there a word or a phrase that resonates with you so write those stories leave your post-it notes right up there on the wall and put your stories somewhere safe because now you're about to start phase three and you're going to put the most powerful part of your rain to work on your behalf step 3 the third step of the e key guy 30-day purpose challenge is to ponder so you've already spent 21 days exploring on the 22nd day you've taken the important step of zeroing in on what actions seem to give you the most purpose and now you are going to take a break you'll stop thinking and stop doing this step is all about moving away from everything so that your subconscious can go to work for you walk away from your vision wall and your stories in fact take a walk by yourself or take yourself to a movie going a solo date to a coffee shop your work for the next six days is to ponder don't think about anything specifically but keep your vision wall kind of in the back your mind soak in a hot tub find a chair in the sunshine meditate just don't think but instead pay attention to what your mind comes up with according to neuroscience your subconscious mind is a supercomputer it has a million times the capacity for processing information and learning compared to what your conscious mind can do stop thinking about your purpose simply exist for the next six days and pay attention to what comes up if something profound does pop into your mind no matter what time of the day make a note of it and put it on a post-it note stick it to your vision wall your work for six days is to ponder and you will quietly weigh out your exploration actions and joys and your and your thoughts this step is all about pondering where your icky guy is you're a key guy is an action it's a verb it will start with the word to to serve to create to delight to nourish to provide you're icky guy is an action that you can do anytime or any day and it will bring joy to you and to others so what's your iki guy after you explore and zero in and ponder for 30 days you will have a much better understanding of what gives you purpose now I know it seems like a lot of work but you're worth it mieka guy is to delight and I can delight when I'm making a video for you or if I'm singing a song up on stage or when I interact with my neighbors when they're out walking their dog my iki guy provides me with a TrueNorth that I can just follow every day without thinking about it I
