it's time of year we try to make our dreams come true but the reality of all that is sacrificed and those dreams quickly become nightmares but in those nightmares or where our demons lie that's the domain in which they know we don't want to go into all those early mornings it wakes up all these things that we failed at past childhood trauma those demons are in those nightmares that's what keeps us from accomplishing our dreams oh they know every year we got them so this year their back is turned to the doorway cuz you know you ain't going into the nightmare land but you're going in there and when the backs are turn you can rear NE and choke them mother out every one of them that's the mentality you must have and always have take hard once again not every message I have is for for everybody so it's weaker soft people out there who want to pick aart the messages just tune it out life ain't about medals Ain't About dcats It Ain't About houses money cars Fame all that [ __ ] it's about scars so when you get judged when everything is said and done with we don't get judged on your medals you get judged on your scars those scars show your willingness to get to other side they show your failures they show your willingness to start from scratch and so what you're willing to do to go the distance to see what you're capable of so make sure in life don't be afraid to get scars stay hard so we got a lot of questions over the holidays one major question question I that was how do I finish when I start I get two weeks into it then I stop well this's the thing about it people forget one thing about me I used to be you I used to be a fat guy I guy that didn't care much I got that got D's and Fs in school I guy that blame other people a guy that was under under mediocre I wouldn't even average so this the thing about it I went to tell you what people don't want to tell you why you stop is because you're lazy it's because you don't mind getting bad grades in school doesn't bother you enough to be mediocre to be average to sit around and watch people do great things you don't mind it so there's your answer your answer is you don't care enough about yourself so you don't stay in the fight stay hard let's approach our goals this year with a different mindset now it's ele El our science teacher had us get a glass and put in the sink he said before you go to bed turn the fuc on so this one drip gets to that cup and by the time you wake up it'll be full of water all I wanted to do was turn that fost it on and fill that glass up that's not how our goals go they go like that drip of water but what I took from it is this that drip of water was building that endurance in your mind and that's what we need to have this is a slow process and that drip of water taught me that Merry Christmas but stay hard so I'm sitting there and I'm all jacked up and I'm like okay how in the world am I going to I got 30 miles to go I should quit but I didn't what I started doing through this whole process was I started to study myself in the dark times so instead of just quitting real fast I said you know I'm going to to quit but not right now so I sat back for a second and I said let me get some water let me hydrate let me clean myself up a little let me get some nutrition I wasn't dizzy so okay my feet are all messed up let me see if I can walk I'm going to walk one mile and then I'll go home that'll be a great accomplishment for me 71 miles so I took this massive thing and I started breaking it down into small chunks and as I started breaking it down to small chunks I started realizing maybe I'll walk one more mile but at the pace I was walking I wasn't going to make the time so this is when I realized that whole 40% rule those of you who you know red can't hurt me you understand it basically the 40% rule is when we have a governor on our brains like a governor on a car a car may say 130 but if you put a governor on a a car only go 101 we do the same thing to our brains I was born with limited Horizons born on the other side of the tracks I didn't think I could be anybody so my governor was myself so once you take that governor off you have Limitless Horizons so this guy just passed me he said g just be aage today some of you just don't understand some of you been average for so damn long you don't know what it is to do hard work but there's a lot of you out there who want to be much more than average but just don't know how to do it every single day to grind so check it out this is a mindset maybe it's true maybe it's not but there's a bunch of out there who wants what you have who wants the position you are who wants the job you have who wants the wife that you have or the husband the simp not you're hungry it wants everything you can have maybe it's true maybe it's not but if it is it's going to be your ass so make that a motivation for you stay hard you know a lot of people haveing like teammates and like family push my my mom was struggling bro she was struggling so it was like me and my mom and so it's a lot of just me so when you're waking up every morning by yourself getting after by yourself and it's the hidden work people see a one minute you know video of me running this these Fighters you know they they see during the fight or after the fight they don't see mother man what they deal with every day I'm not good enough I'm not good enough I shouldn't be here I shouldn't be here cuz every day even though they're from the best in the world that little mother seven or 8 years old is still in there saying oh man man we you don't have sub we're not good enough you shouldn't be here so you're always fighting that [ __ ] even though you beat it you never truly beat it and you get up earlier and all these things you do to start forming yourself when you quit your mind does this once you say I'm not going to quit this is the 40% when you quit your mind says we're done so it doesn't expand there's no expansion when you quit when you say uh-uh this sucks I'm drowning I'm miserable I'm suffering I'm broken but I'm not going anywhere what happens to your mind is it does this it says he's not leaving so we got to expand we got to grow we got to figure this thing out so then these compartments in your brain start to work they have to work and then you start to engage parts of your mind that you never engaged before but you can't engage it by sitting back in these nice chairs drinking in this nice water talking to you talking about what I want to do so that's where the 40% thing comes in it comes in when you're in suffer mode and you say I'm not going to quit you're forcing your brain now to operate on a level it's not used to but then it becomes used to it in times of need even the hardest person forgets how badass they are so I've been through a lot of my life when you're going through a hard time right now you forget all the hard time you endureed so the cookie jar is a reminder that oh I can get through this hard time right now but you got to take a second or two to reach into the mental cookie jar you got to open up and okay man I was in three HS and I got through two of them you know I was in Ranger school I saw these beating my mom soon husband got got murdered all these things I endured alone I had to remind myself of the strength and the power that I have that is in me it's just a reminder of how badass you are in hard times because you know we just forget that bad time consumes our mind mind is so powerful and I didn't realize it I went through three hell weeks Ranger school Delta for selection all this stuff this incident I'm going to explain to you right now is where I realized we are only at 40% of what we are capable of here I am right idea to do this race called badwater 135 I Googled the 10 hardest races in the world what came up crazy race in Death Valley summertime 135 miles I knew nothing about ultr running I thought you would like you know camp out run 20 miles then one day and then run 20 miles again until you got 135 miles had no idea what I was doing called the race director up he's like hey have you run 100 miles I was like what in a week or what what you talking about he's like no in 24 hours or less I said no he goes you got to qualify to get in this race you have to run 100 miles in 24 hours or less he was trying to call my Bluffs I call him up on a Wednesday he goes hey there's a race in San Diego on Saturday where it's a 24hour race where you run around you know a track a 1 mile track for 24 hourss and anything get 100 miles I will consider you in my race it really helps to be smart people and I was not smart in this situation I said oh I did the math it's about a 14 something Min mile I can do that anyway I show up on Saturday with the blue lawn chair Rich crackers mlex and my ex-wife and every mile I'm going to see her I'm going to grab some Ritz crackers and some mylex I don't know what the hell I'm doing but it's Bliss that whole ignorance is bliss thing so I get to 70 miles pretty damn fast I get to 70 miles in like 12 13 hours we happens to your body when you haven't trained for that kind of mileage a lot of bad things but I thought I was in good shape it was amazing I hadn't gone to bathroom at all I sit down big mistake I sit down this blue lawn chair I sit down looking at my ex-wife I'm seeing like three or four of her I'm like oh this is not good so I'm trying to play it off because I know where I'm about to go so I'm sitting there and you haven't gone the bathroom you're dehydrated your nutrition's all jacked up you sit there you got to go to the bathroom now so I'm sitting there literally pooping up my back and peeing blood down my leg she's a nurse so she's concerned and I'm telling you right now there's one thing you never want to hear as a black person she said you're starting to turn white so I'm sitting there and I'm on jacked up and I'm like okay you have who wants the wife that you have or the husband there someone out there hungry and wants everything you can have maybe it's true maybe it's not but if it is it's going to be your ass so make that a motivation for you stay hard I want to be that guy I want to be a guy that's capable of doing exactly what I'm doing today you have to if you weren't born that guy that mentally strong guy he can't be made woman man whatever whatever the hell you are it can be made but in thinking that person you have to turn be able to turn down book deals you have to be who you are every day of your life and never care about anybody who gets in your way that said you're not doing something the proper way I was always afraid of people not wanting to like when you get beat as bad as I did I lied all the time I wanted to be accepted and loved and that I created about 50 people whatever you like I like just if you would be my friend just be my friend and that's where we get lost in life so today I decided to try to PR my long run so the first half of the run I'm feeling great my mind is clear nothing going on think about nothing but my just my running pace what I'm doing my breathing everything like that get to mile 15 I turn around and the demons start to creep in that inevitable wall is creeping up on me when you push so hard something's about to give and I started to give my mind started to break down I started feeling my legs starting to hurt I started feeling dehydrated started feeling sorry for myself started looking around why don't you go ahead and just stop call your girl have her pick you up get out of your head and stay hard this guy stopped me at a stoplight he was like hey goggin why am I not getting better I'm a big time goal Setter I run half Iron Man I run half marathons I go for that new promotion at work why am I not getting better I asked him a question do you have fear of not reaching those goals he said no that's your problem you're setting goals you know you can reach and when you do that that fear that insecurity that doubt that's where you grow he's not getting that you must always set goals that you think you cannot achieve and let there you get better stay [Music] hard and this this is one thing about life this is why you always must be ready always be ready never get ready people go oh hey what are you training for David I ain't training for [ __ ] when something pops up I'm ready so when Cam Pop the up and cam calls hey man I'm going to be in uh Las Vegas you want to go for a run sure do sure do brother sure do while the Run sucked I was ready went got same day say oh we worked it out dude whenever meet him together you can guarantee it's going to be two people that love each other but are waiting for the other [ __ ] to break 100% dude it's like this thing in the back of your head okay maybe this will break them maybe this will break them so we haven't broken each other yet but I'm sure the day will come in my mind a lot of times man I'm like it doesn't mean I quit I don't quit you know I may not make it to the first time but I'll come back I got to call an audible can get my head back in the game I got to I got to figure this [ __ ] out it doesn't mean you leave it means you study it more it means you study it more and and whenever I feel at something people always say man how do you handle failure man I fail a lot dude I fail all the time they go how do you handle it what I'm trying to do and this isn't being arrogant man I I it's being real not many people are trying to do there's not many people that who who can even open their mouth and criticize me when I do fail cuz I'm on trying to do man that many people aren't trying to do but I don't look at failure as failure I look at failure as your first second third fourth fifth attempt I look at them as attempts I don't look at anything as failure because when you're willing to try to do something not trying is failure that's that's and that's not some after school special [ __ ] but when you're able to go out there there there is no failure it's attempts cuz when you're trying to do something that's bigger than you whatever you are whoever you are if if if you're paralyzed you're trying to walk one step and you didn't you didn't fail mother that was your first attempt if that's your biggest thing that's how your mindset needs to go into everything so I don't look at it as failure is a big word like that gets people down we give so much power to words I don't I take the power right away I didn't feel hey come here brother let me talk to you real Qui brother people don't like that man but I'm not going to allow you to go to a place that's going to be hard to get out of it's going to be hard if I allow you to gain five more pounds or allow you to take four more days off of school or allow you to keep on procrastinating in your life and I see it and I tell Jennifer behind your back I'm doing you no justice zero justice so with this world is now you can't say a mother I do I I still do and I always will don't like me don't like me I'm good with [Music] that where it gets hard and the harder it is the more you start to push back and the more you push back and then it's not right for people to talk about it's not right for like let's say you are fat I was fat that's what I talk about it go ahead and say something mother I was fat too and it was hard everying day to get up I know what it feels like when you roll your fat ass out of bed and all you want but I can't want it more than you and so many people just wanted the easy way it I'm sorry man it's not so what they start to do is they build this Narrative of it's okay when the narrative should be you need to work harder you need to discipline your mind better we need to help people more than just saying it's okay it's okay that you're not not and willing help yourself out that's not okay it's not okay it's not acceptable even though it's your life if that's if if that's acceptable that's unacceptable and there's a lot of people in this world me included that if I accepted that I wouldn't be anywhere so yeah a lot of people just they they start creating a narrative about themselves that make it okay the ultimate get out jail free card and now the world is set up to have so many gel free cards everything is okay and you can't say a mothering thing about it I want you I want you to go there with me I'm taking you there with me I'm I'm a Storyteller I want to take your ass down Paradise where I so the house I lived in in Buffalo New York that I got my ass beat every day funny we lived on Paradise Road and it was anything but Paradise so I want you to go there with me you want to learn from me let me take your ass home let me take you there so that's the whole thing about it man we're we're scared to dive into our lives what made us who we are the beautiful people that we are we're all jacked up in so many ways that's the beauty of us that's the beauty of me I'm jacked up but I figured out my own little process on how to get unjacketed up and how to I'm not going to get the same you know I'm not going to get the same way you're going to get there you may get there by going point A to point B I might go Point C to D to e to f i going to be there the same way you are just a little harder that's how I train my brain so it's just different I'm just different thinker my part-time Savage was me running like 50 miles a week what I used to do and I do now is I got to a point I be running and I was like okay man we can do 10 miles today I get I get to 10 miles back on no that fing demon that I let out every morning that walks the streets at night he comes say no bit not today man there's somebody out there that you don't know have never met in your time enre life that is doing 12 13 14 you're going to do another one and when you meet him you ain't get ready so Goin kept on running I'm the hard working guy that that doesn't talk about so basically I don't take any days off as far as working out first thing in the morning time is you have to build your confidence and every day you're constantly gaining and losing confidence you're never staying the same so how you build your confidence is if you like what you see in that mirror that's how you start your day off if you wake up and you and you look fat you look out of shape you're not feel good which is you know or you don't feel good inside so my whole big thing is get up and work out shed some calories get the adrenals going get the mind going get all that going every day I run every day I work out a lot of people what they do is they have these these Finish Lines and I have a saying that says I don't stop when I'm tired I stop when I'm done when I was uh younger I didn't have any goals it's not really so much about goals it's just Tod do list a to-do list and as a human being if you don't have a to-do list you're going to sit back and just fade away so I've been grinding lately every day run over 20 miles a day getting up early going to bed early eating the right this last week started taking a toll on me I usually don't think too much get my shoes on head out I've been thinking a lot that internal voice has been talking to me talking about oh man you're tired looking at my shoes about pushing back the time of that that I go out to go run so I decided to tape record myself that Eternal voice I put on tape so if you ever having a hard time out there take yourself listen to what kind of bit you're being stay hard well at that time of year again we start to feel real happy why because we're we're not going to work if you believe in Santa Claus and you celebrate Christmas you're looking forward to Santa Claus coming down the chimney giving you some presents it's a real good time of year so in that good time of year we start to feel real good about ourselves so start to feel great so we start Mak Mak promises to ourselves about hey I'm going to lose some weight I'm going to do better in school I'm going to be better here be better there but guess what happens the real merry Christmas happens when all of that noise is gone it's quiet and it's you against you and now all those endorphins are gone and I promise you made by getting up early and getting after it to go lose weight study harder guess what it's a lot harder now that repetition becomes a lot harder now so a lot of us can't do things on our own so find somebody in your life so when you throw that towel in they throw that back at you and say you're not done yet stay true to yourself stay hard people go man why are you so open and vulnerable I tell you everything I lied about everything I I'll tell you everything I am an open book I don't give a the only reason why I don't give a anymore is because I overcame it and I beat it it's not really to talk about it why most people aren we want to go to that darkness and that vulnerability is because they're still dealing with it when people who have overcome it they're open book bro because they're proud the only thing that changes your DNA is discipline discipline is the only thing that changes your DNA man only thing man you could be so [ __ ] up and I realized that man I was like man the only thing that changed my DNA is discipl being in cold water cold ice water it literally is the one thing that makes you question everything when you're going through hard training like that like you know I've been through a lot of different training in the military and that cold water it definitely many dreams die while suffering many dreams die while suffering my friend that's so true I talk about it man like this God's getting that water and you see their eyes roll back and I'm like oh yeah many dreams die while suffering friend I see these older guys who are still grinding hard people ask about Father Time father time doesn't get you man it's father fatigue it's father fatigue man like I see these guys who have been in sports for a long time fighting or basketball footb whatever it is and it's that grind it's that everyday waking up grind it's not it's it's not not father time man it's it's the fact that you know I got to go do it again got to do it again so a lot of these guys are fighting father fatigue and they're doing a good job of doing it I love watching fights man cuz I I see them and I start to say okay you're in the bad situation man and I see a couple guys can't ready tap and that 1 second decision I call it they're thinking man I got to tap like and and you see the hand motion like a m tap and it go somewhere else not today mother cuz I've been here I've been here before I can last maybe just one more second and this one second may get me out of this and I see how the how the mind is evolving in that one moment that one quick moment I see that a million thoughts went through their mind and it didn't tap I I studied that so much you were in a horrible situation I know you were like I got to tap I got to tap I got to tap but if you break that down really break it down to the smallest molecule possible your mind I went through so many things that allowed you to not tap you got to study that man you get there and you want to quit and you don't it just makes it a little easier that's all that's all the repetitions do man it's not doesn't take away the pain does take away the suffering no you just studied it you know it you know how it feels you know when to breathe when not to breathe you know all these different things you've been there you visited that you you you've lived there for a long period of time what are you doing with your life man why are you sitting around why are you waiting to happen it ain't going to happen like that why are you feeling sorry for yourself why you waiting for that apology that's never going to come people sit around waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and blaming and blaming they waiting with a hand out Co happened and everybody's hands out hands out why do I feel like I said I'm missing something because you didn't go out and achieve it on your own we change everything we change our car we change our house sometimes we change our wife or husband we change our underwear we change everything in our lives change our hair change how we look change everything but very few of us change how we think and that's the one problem with with a lot of people they're not willing to change how they think you're not going to evolve if you continue thinking the same way so a lot of people have a problem with that so I'm always trying to evolve in some way I never wearing the same underwear every day I always change that bit I'm not gifted I'm just driven so that's when you move from motivation to driven to obsessed it's how you get through that on a daily basis we forget how badass we are during that hard time it's all on you it's all on you the self part is what's big I'm going to make myself good enough I'm driven I'm obsessed I want to prove people wrong I'm a warrior I'm here again today I'm here again tomorrow I'm going to be here the next day thicken your skin become more of a human being don't be afraid of the reflection in the mirror cuz that's all you can be afraid of once you overcome the reflection in the mirror you done it you're going to have can suffer man it it's how you get somewhere in life motivation crap it comes and go as how you feel I'm not going to be okay I had to realize I had to take a stand I I I to make a real stand and it was painful to look at who I like who I was what the world and myself created it created a a very lonely depressed insecure man that would do anything just to have a friend and I saw that as very pathetic I have a way of going to a place like a did in that race where all the pain and suffering that they put on top of me in hell week I will reverse that pain and suffering and I will take your soul my job what drove me was I wanted you to go home that night after you beat the living out of me and I smiled in your face I wanted you to feel worse than I did I wanted you to think about me knowing that I'm comfortable being very uncomfortable you don't want to break open that callous that that scar in your mind you don't want to break no you have to break it open let that blood flow you have let blood flow in your brain you have to let all that stuff flow out all that toxic stuff that you have trapped in there has to start flowing out now so like you said you are doing this to yourself yes people may have helped you get there but it's now on you it's a painful truth painful truth like all those people in high school and everything else they don't know how you're going to end up so you got to make sure that you constantly are rewriting your book you have to constantly rewrite your book every day of your life these aren't just words I say this is how I have to live like these are conversations I have with myself and I say to everywhere I go the most important conversation when you have with yourself so what's youring excuse is it too cold where you live is it too hot where you live doesn't rain tooing much now it's time for some realing talk maybe you're the only black person applying for aing job maybe the only female job whatever the it may be maybe that it's in youring head maybe that's your excuse for not being better Life's a real biging picture when I was young all those things got my head blacked not smart enough single mom all that [ __ ] own space in my head if you're allowing people and things and situations to on space in your [ __ ] head you're losing last thing life one big [ __ ] head game you play it with yourself if you lose it's because you allow life to get in youring head stay hard
