Anyone else watch I love the 80s too?
Too bad we wasted it on teen angst and after-school jobs.
On the other hand we occasionally loaded up the car with 5 or 7 16-year olds and drove 2 hours to the beach for the day. No one seemed to think it was too dangerous, and I didn't need to ask Mom for $100 to cover gas and lunch.
50 year old GenX'er here. I consider the 1980s the last "big" decade, where just about everything seemed possible and "larger than life", especially pop culture. Obviously, it was far from perfect, but for a teenager growing up it was heady times indeed. The decade even ended on a suitably climatic note with the fall of the Berlin Wall and collapse of the Soviet Union - an 80s action flick couldn't have scripted it any better.
I'm sure that there is a lot of wistful nostalgia in my recollections, but I'm glad I got to live through it.
