[Music] nads and I have been in meetings all day one of our good buddy stopped by mr. Jonathan ward of icon 4x4 yeah and the hell is that oh there it is great way to end the day yeah Oh what up yeah Wow that's your real dirtbag cheers boys all right MA whoa survives Mia's axe first time with a trans ain't no to drink beer exact first beer add a trance [Music] mr. Ward dress nice no is how are you sir thank you so much for coming out how's it going this is my personal ride and it's actually the build that I eventually went yeah we can do this and I [Music] I don't know what it is for two cars for me here yeah this is a fifty-two Chrysler Town and Country I bought then put claim and super cool car killer interior but the front clip is really ugly so I don't know I was gonna do with it so I sat on her Philip II don't talk about the front end with very little bodywork so I didn't do that so like two years later our radiator shop had this car which was a fifty-two DeSoto sedan and it was dirt cheap and I knew enough to know all those mopars they were all Lego interchangeable yeah so that seemed night I yanked the DeSoto back took all the sheet metal hung it on Chrysler and then I was like yes okay now I know what I want to do it's so much fun I've got almost 30,000 miles on it so far and what is this is this a newer like 6-2 6-4 6-1 SRT m8 right yeah with the cast intake so that I love I told ya oh yeah because I couldn't handle the plastic valve covers yes so these are the original ones from the original Hemi from the car and I just built little stands and put them on there to hide all the plastic oh that's right I also appreciate you're normally known as like the LS guy so I appreciate the fact that you matched ya know to Chrysler we do that a lot but at the end of the day the reality is is the GM stuff is the easiest to service the easiest to manipulate you can always do custom valve covers and put it in yeah I also gotta say I love this car because it's the only car that I feel like I can come up as neighbor and just lean on it as no magic you're working on your car in your driveway lose your year off for four hours does one of these you know the first time I saw this car was it 2010 at SEMA yeah you debuted 2010 and he drove it to SEMA a SEMA car that was driven to SEMA that man I love they've been like really there's a great old aircraft surplus place by the shop it's like all the hardware's surplus left over this old eBay score 1700 whiskey bottle with a modern Lagavulin cap just because they're abundant to my recycling bin so that's for the radiator overflow and then the all horns I discovered you don't have to respawn 6 volt ones they're just louder when they're 12 volt and then I found this like an air siren like a really obnoxious siren like an air-raid siren yeah so we're just talking about that in the meeting today we could use this so when the kids were younger I'd hit that like a block away from school and they hear me in the playground look how wide this thing is and it's mostly well I mean they're big but when I had it valve covers on top of elk I was so kind of excited let me ask you something you're known for more of the icon 4x4 full repop off-road super capable vehicles but that are also done really well this was the first vehicle that launched your derelict yeah right I didn't do it as a branding thing it was a car I wanted to build for myself and then when it got on the cover a hot rod and won a bunch of stuff that I need to think of it I was like people started asking for will keep he'll know gator-skin seeds that's actually height of the elusive Naga no I I'm gonna let me sit on I love how you left petite a bit i powder-coated all of these because they were like way to patina the painted off flaked off in chunks so I powdered that same with the wheels we repeated that same powder that came out because he brought him out he brought the 58 silver cloud that was a customer's car and he drove Scott O&I around the block and they were amazing on the freeway because I really wish we could leave the yards can Scott I won't let us I was so close to get in to break that correct that's proud so he said I'll bring something back and I will get ready so oh don't get rowdy but I want to be on the dog getting rowdy so we'll celebrate after work where is it so it's just a small screen and controller right here that's it oh just that guy yeah and an AC I got the rare radio delete plate that's where the radio used to be it took like three years finally found it so that's now four AC vents and it gives you a really nice I like this here's that obnoxious I really like and then again like we didn't even have the term derelict when we built it so it was years later I think that and design the badge that you remember I remember from the roles that everything about the color yeah this is obvious which one no this is patina right now our Allah JIT so was the the front of the DeSoto and the rear original same color like no they're kind of sort of but not quite same okay but the thing it's sort of like in its patina state like what's the natural wood like the DeSoto wagon had the killer catfish grille and killer frankly I'm like the fun in but the interior on the DeSoto's were like super plain too bright but the designer who did these for the Chrysler division who did the interior there they just have really hurt us and at least a story that I was giving out like you saying he was a guy didn't like real cars so it just has way more care to know yo and then this folds flat when my seats on all the way back and even the tailgate so it's a really do you have an 8 foot bed you yeah yeah no I cut those to hide my rear because they're Frye that's so chill I've made new kicks in the front - uh-huh and then the base is under the drive instruction how do you feel about clear coated patina [ __ ] yeah oh there Milan know if you clear coat patina it officially has jumped the shark frankly if you're gonna do that personally I'd be less offended the vehicle wrap cuz then you're not cut I am earned wabi-sabi and ruining it so then you just take your car and wrap it I like 5050 agreed with the rabbit inna killed you notice I saw a lot out there were our tour no it didn't work because of the body panels are plastic so it's not selling yeah let's see no a couple that worked really good I could testify that this is real patina because we tried to get you to bring it out in the rain so don't mind driving in the rain but I got to be honest I'm committed to my patina and I can't let it get you worse so anytime I expose it to the rain you do you have a level of patina that you can see we call the crocodile ink on the front door cuz in the water drips down again I think it's trap is and you just think you have a raw metal door we go is vinyl rivalry so actually said it's less offensive doesn't mean I'm gonna do it as you're you guys think about folk patina oh there's a bit yes like we're in the it's not like wearing the the band shirt to the show guys in case you wondered what you were watching you know reminder how three best derelict stories once like traffic old lady cane walk-ons me she goes and suddenly postures good cane wagon comes right over to me taps the fender on my 33 Ford and she goes I lost my virginity on this very running board of this kind of car then the first car morning commute leaving Starbucks black lady modern Mercedes traffic big crazy fingernail she goes that card just about make a white boy was some guy like you know panhandling on the off-ramp he goes that's what fine whoops so I really hoped he would have been that's one of the layers of why I love the derelict projects that most of everything we do they're so diverse they're so creative you can be tongue-in-cheek and make design decisions playing off the history and the patina but most importantly like it just makes people smile like they're fun yeah they're not like oh that prick wonder you know there's no judgement except for slipping the zip tie I've never seen a zip tie or a sheet metal screw I found from zipped I miss them you're human where is it under the kind of stuff right here it's just for that hey you know in in defense of zip ties it depends on the zip timer well it's like a grasshopper there are many parade of zip top they're the metal sheath line and then my favorite if it's if it's not conductive is from poultry farms yeah the leg tags you can do some bulk on line there's really try to class up zip ties I am I think I'm actually now I don't know about you guys but I would really like to hear what this thing sounds like I see eight cylinders so I'm gonna go ahead and guess there's some chopped yeah doughnuts donut all right you realize anywhere else on automotive media that would have been that's like that's the front cover of Motor Trend lawyers is your shop in short yeah that's amazing yes you've never visited right do we want to see was that was the warm-up right no you all that one of us drive it no no I want you boys the boys thought they were gonna get to drive [ __ ] car and Quinn my youngest it's perfect timing because he just got his learner's permit and last week's rain I thought be a perfect time so I took him out of my parking lot well we get about 10 minutes to learning how to drive stick let me give another 20 on Burnett right yeah getting really good he was like very excited let's let him down what do you think you should do I think you should carry the rear tires upright do you think you should have leaves try throwing 180 but did you I tried all on its own [Music] oh yeah you're gonna get this guy a beer oh is that not good enough I don't think it's worthy of a beers much as I love them to death man maybe next time maybe next time we'll see about next time so well I think we should bring the about 1100 horse Tom Nelson twin turbo big-block 3 door now 4-door 69 suburban because the client wants to drive it so if he wrecks it you guys get your yah yah he does his and I get more work all right well so that that works for us then so for now [Music] [Laughter]
