hi guys welcome back to my channel for today's video i decided to wake up at 5 00 a.m for an entire week see what it was like and if it could make me more productive because i've read so many books from successful people who say that their morning routine is to wake up at 5am and so i thought i wonder if this could transfer to me as a busy mom and help me out in some way and this was also requested from you guys that i do this experiment so i hope you really enjoy it and let me know in the comments below if you want me to do any other challenges if you want me to try meditating for a week or i don't know going vegan for a week anything like that because this was quite interesting and fun to do so the video is kind of a vlog style but stay tuned to the end where i'm going to like sum up my experience and like things i'm going to take away from it um anyway with all that said let's get into it okay so day one as you can see here i didn't actually quite get up at 5am i snoozed until nearly 5 30. i found it so difficult and i did get to see this beautiful sunrise from fraser's bedroom i ended up sleeping in his room and he slept in my room with jackson because i didn't want jackson to have nobody there when he woke up so i just got up i made the bed and then i started to get ready and i think that's a major plus of getting up before the kids if you find it very difficult to get ready for the day get ready to get out the door then waking up a little bit before the kids is a really good way that you're able to do that as you can see i was really struggling this morning um very tired but i'm gonna get ready and then i'll talk to you a bit more and i actually really struggled to get up this morning i also really found it difficult to go to sleep last night i normally sleep obviously in my bed with jackson but i was so worried about waking him up that last night fraser slept where i sleep and i slept in fraser's bedroom so that no one would be with me so that i could like wake up at five but i kept pressing the snooze button and in the end i was like oh emily like if you wake up you can like do something that you actually want to do like go on your phone or something so that's in the end how i got up at like 5 20 i went on instagram for 10 minutes and then i was like hey come on like get up so i didn't actually wake up until 5 30 and i was thinking you know when you have a baby that gets out of a routine or you go on holiday and they're jet lagged it's recommended that to get them back to their normal bedtime you would put them to bed just 15 minutes earlier at night so i was thinking if you were actually going to try this maybe it's actually worth just waking up 15 minutes earlier than you normally do rather than like straight away 5 a.m because i really struggled to get up this morning anyway got up got ready got dressed made the bed like all of that and i actually already feel good for having done that because i know when the kids come downstairs now like i'm ready to go like on the school run or whatever we have to do no matter what morning we have um but now i'm just gonna have a coffee just made a coffee and i've also got my water just poured that um so i think i'm going to i don't know i was like i've really been wanting to do some online shopping for spring and i thought oh if i wake up early maybe that could be like a reward for actually getting up early but now that i'm awake and ready i feel like maybe i should actually do um the main piece of work i need to do today which is a voiceover for a video so i might actually try to do that um and then that's just done for the day because we've actually got jackson at home today so it would be nice if i didn't have to worry about that i was facing the window like i normally do in this kitchen because normally it's sunny and like it's on my face but obviously it wasn't um i wanted to excuse my hair i'm actually getting my hair done today today's the day that everything opens up again in england so i'm able to get my hair done and i'm just so excited about that so hopefully you'll see that tomorrow [Music] so the first hack that i wanted to share with you is a way of making any blanket a picnic blanket obviously you can buy proper picnic blankets with plastic on the bottom but if you don't have one you could use a shower curtain or you could also use something like one of those plastic tablecloths for kids parties once i'd finished my voiceover i did actually get a chance to make breakfast so i just had some greek yogurt with granola and maple syrup on top as well and i didn't know if i'd have time to do that so that was actually really nice and then it meant that when the kids did actually end up coming downstairs at about 6 45 i got to have snuggles with jackson and like enjoy some time with him whereas normally i'm like rushing around like a headless chicken so that was actually quite nice hi guys so it's about 20 to seven on day one and as you can probably see i'm feeling quite rough i've been yawning so much and i'm just really tired where i didn't really sleep much last night so i think what i'm gonna do is go to bed with the kids tonight try and catch up on some sleep and obviously wake up at 5am tomorrow good morning guys so it's now day two and i definitely did better at waking up earlier i only snoozed once so that's an improvement and i actually feel so much better because last night i went to bed with fraser at 9pm so i got nearly eight hours so that's just made all the difference so i think if anyone's gonna like do the 5am challenge or try 5am wakeups like it's fine but obviously you just need to make sure you get enough sleep um there is something really nice about the house being so quiet first thing like it's just quite a nice um first thing in the morning like for your mind because normally when the kids wake me up it's like i need a wee i need breakfast i need this and it's like full steam ahead like straight away whereas this is just like much um like a calmer start to the day i'm also finding that waking up this early definitely means i get ready quicker because normally when i get ready i turn on an audio book or i'll put on like instagram stories and like watch those but because i need to be super quiet in the morning because i don't want to wake up my family i don't have anything on my phone so i get ready so much faster than i normally would so that's actually quite good in terms of being a bit more productive obviously it's quite nice to have that me time and listen to stuff but i'm getting ready in like 15 minutes now whereas normal would maybe take a bit more time um but anyway i've just made my first coffee of the morning and it's only 5 30 so now i'm going to actually try and clean my office space it's a space that i always mean to clean and since we've moved in nearly six months ago i've never put the prints on the wall or made it like a nice space because it's just been so busy with the pandemic and then it was like a homeschooling room um so this morning i'm actually gonna try and tidy it up get rid of some boxes in there from deliveries and actually maybe put up a few of my like inspirational prints and stuff and just make it a nicer space to work in because now the kids are back to school i can actually go in there to work and soak them at so that is my plan this morning because i just know that's a task that i just put off all the time and it's not until i go into that room to work i'm like uh like this really could do with a bit of a tidy and clean so that is the plan this morning i have to obviously do it really quietly um that is another thing that when it comes to getting any like chores done or anything like i would normally first thing empty the dishwasher but obviously that's gonna be way too noisy like i feel like it could wake someone up so i'm not doing things like that so i'll do this super quietly i won't be like vacuuming or anything [Music] right so i've been working on my office space for about an hour now and now the kids have just come downstairs it is about 6 30 and that is quite normal for them they wake up anywhere between 6 30 and 7 p.m i always think that's completely acceptable especially on a school day um so i only had an hour to do the office but i'm ready for the day and i'm really pleased that this task that i've been putting off for ages is finally a little bit better like there's more that i could do in this room um but overall quite pleased with how today's gone and hopefully i won't be as tired this afternoon because i actually got eight hours last night and while i've been in the office i've seen so much wildlife out of the window i've seen a fox run past through our drive and also these really cute little um blue birds i think they're blue tits they're on like the tree just outside and they're like eating something so that's actually been really sweet and like peaceful [Music] good morning guys so it's now day three of the 5 a.m challenge and this morning i did still snooze once before i actually got up out of bed last night i went to bed at about 9 30 and i slept in fraser's bed with him um so i'm actually finding the hardest thing about this whole challenge is trying to be very quiet upstairs when i wake up so i lay my clothes out the night before what i'm gonna wear so i kind of grab that and then i go into the bathroom but i don't turn any lights on because all the lights in the bathrooms have these like fans attached to them they're quite noisy so i don't turn the lights on i sort of try to wash my face in the dark and then get dressed and then i came downstairs to do my makeup in here while i watch a video that's going up on my channel tonight so that is the trickiest thing i also realized after three mornings of washing my face with like freezing cold water i was like we need to change when the hot water comes on because i think it must not come on until like 5 30 or something um so i need to do that because like washing my face as soon as you wake up like 10 past five and then washing your face with freezing cold water it's just horrible um and also because i don't turn the lights on this morning when i was trying to get my earrings in i actually dropped one down the toilet and it went into the toilet and i had to like fish it out and then wash it it was just like not a nice start to the morning but anyway i'm now at my desk as i said it's 5 30 now i'm just gonna try and do my makeup and watch a video that's going up tonight for my channel so at least that will be done um but normally things like that i always try to get the video scheduled the night before it's going up on my channel like if i ever can i'll do that so last night when i was going to bed it was just like on my mind that that wasn't done yet and i really had to wake up early to make sure that that gets done so yeah anyway it was just a bit of a like start to the day like dropping my thing down the toilet and everything good morning guys so it's day four of the 5 a.m challenge and i have to be completely honest with you and say that i woke up at 7 00 a.m this morning by accident basically i went up to bed at 9 00 pm like i have been and i've had so much going through my head of things that i normally would do in the evening like i had some life admin to do some like clubs to pay and like things to sort out for the kids and then i also had some work stuff as well so i went to bed at nine but i probably just shouldn't have because then until 10 30 like things were just going through my head things i should be doing and i didn't actually fall asleep till like 10 30 or 11 anyway and then jackson slept in my bed and when my alarm went off at 5am his little like warm body was laying on my back and i was like i just can't do it like i was just loving the snuggles and i was so tired so it was a complete fail and i didn't get up until 7 00 am so i did think maybe i just won't tell you guys and i'll add a day on at the end but i've just got to be completely real with you and say that today was a bit of a fail so on day five i was back on track i woke up at 5am and i was just feeling so guilty from missing a day and yesterday i spent some time reading a book called miracle mornings which you guys recommended and the book says that when you wake up at 5 a.m you should do three things you should meditate you should do affirmations and sweat so i spent about five minutes meditating with and like a meditation app which i just downloaded and started a beginner's course i also did some affirmations and it's the first time i'd really done it so i ended up looking online writing out some affirmations and then i did my workout for the day it was quite a big one it was a 40 minute workout that my online pt sets me but it was actually really nice to get it out of the way in the morning once i'd done my workout i did also have time to get the kids lunches and snacks and all of that ready for the day so all in all day five was a very productive morning although i didn't actually get any work done which i keep saying you know i normally do in the evenings i didn't get a chance to do it in the morning because all of that kind of took about an hour and a half and i didn't actually get ready i ended up getting ready when the kids were up i should say i did my affirmations on my new desk bike this just arrived so i was really excited to try it out and i'll probably do a full review on this at some stage but i just got it because i thought it would be a great way to keep me moving while i'm doing mundane tasks like editing a video or just going on instagram i could be getting a little workout in as well it tracks things like how many kilometers you've gone how many calories you've burnt like how fast you're going and all of that there's eight different settings so anyway i literally just got it so i'll let you know what i think of it but i did my affirmations while i was on this bike and i think i biked 28 kilometers while i did that and went on instagram as well so all in all day five was a good day good morning i miss you so on day six i kept up the same miracle morning routine and i forgot to say that first thing you're supposed to down a big glass of water as fast as you can because you dehydrate so much during the night while you're breathing but i downed that i then did my next day on my meditation app and i did my affirmations and i just about started doing some work when i heard someone shouting out my name and not even mummy he was shouting out emily so i had to go and see jackson so i was downstairs and i had just done my meditation and i was just starting a little bit of work and then i heard someone shouting emily really loudly and it was this little man isn't it why didn't you shout mommy he was shouting me because well you all love me so i'm gonna sit in bed with jackson do a little bit of work while he watches youtube representing you and you're better so it's now day seven when i'm filming this and this morning something happened i really wasn't expecting to happen when my alarm went off at 5am i also heard another alarm go off at the same time and i thought that's weird have i set two alarms like what's going on went into fraser's room and it was his phone that was going off and he had basically set an alarm for 5am to join me in this challenge and it really made me think god they really do watch what you do and copy what you do so he was basically just setting his alarm because he was going to join in like wake up with me maybe work out maybe do the things that i had been talking about all week so instantly i was like oh my gosh like go back to bed you need sleep like you need sleep to grow and had that conversation with him but i'm pretty sure he was like awake for the day then so it was a bit of a mess this morning um really cute that he wanted to join in but then i was like uh like not ideal i'm sure you can see from the video that there are some pros and cons from waking up at 5 00 a.m i think as a busy mom with kind of young children it just didn't completely work for me the main thing as well was i just really missed my evenings with matt i honestly feel like i've not seen matt all week really because when the kids do finally go to bed at like 8 30 at night maybe 9 p.m we then hang out for like a couple of hours we might watch a show or like just talk about the day and i didn't get any of that because i was trying to go to bed earlier i also feel like i'm personally not that great at going to sleep whereas say my husband matt for instance when his head hits the pillow like he's asleep that's it i sit there and i think for like half an hour or 40 minutes and i think it was even worse when i wasn't working in the evening or getting things done because i was going to bed thinking oh i haven't done that voiceover or i haven't edited that video i haven't done that like life admin so for me going to bed i actually found more difficult but having said that there are definitely things from this experience that i'm going to be taking away like i actually really enjoyed meditating every day and i'm going to keep doing the app that i've got i also really enjoyed affirmations more than i thought i would i think it's a good way to like keep your focus and to think about your goals every day and try to like trick yourself into believing in those goals so those are two things i really enjoyed it's also really nice getting workouts out of the way in the morning it's really nice getting ready before the kids and also to have that little bit of peace before everything gets crazy first thing and i think it's quite a nice like thing that i can have up my sleeve if i ever think we've got a busy day ahead i know that i can wake up at 5 a.m and get loads done before we've even started today for me personally i think that my perfect routine will be somewhere in between what i have been doing for the past week so i'm going to wake up at 6 00 a.m which is still an hour before the kids on a good day and then i'm gonna try and go to bed at 10 p.m i'm gonna see how that goes because i do think that going to bed at like 11 or 11 30 that is a little bit late and then it is quite nice to do a few things before the kids wake up so i'm gonna try that and see how it goes but i would really recommend those two books i have read this week i'll link them down below the first one was called the miracle morning and the second one which i really enjoyed was called the sweet spot and i have talked about that one before um but yeah let me know what you think of this challenge if you would give it a try what what time do you actually wake up let me know in the comments because i'd be really interested to hear that maybe in the future this will work out but having young children and
