I Was There When: Yankees Clinch #27

I was there for the last out of the World Series in 2009 I was there in 2009 November 4th for the 27th World Series title I was there for the last out of the 2009 World Series I was there on November 4th 2009 for the Yankees most recent World Series championship over the Phillies I was there for the last out of the 2009 World Series [Applause] 26 [Applause] waiting for the last out Victorino unigram ball to second base I remember catching the ball but actually having to look in my glove to make sure it was still there because I didn't feel it I was already celebrating at the excitement was already running through my veins only thing I remember is trying to get over a rail fast enough to get out there to celebrate I just jump and just want to jump all the everybody and celebrate it's fun being able to run in and jump into the dog pile give hugs and congratulate everyone and get ready to go pop champagne because we just won the World Series I think is the best moment of my whole career I was so excited because I was like my first year and the big leagues well I mean you still have the same excitement as far as you're happy the Yankees won you relax you're watching the game here and join it because of the intensity involved in the player you know it was a remarkable moment for the for the Corps for you know it was a remarkable moment for Derek Jeter for Jorge Posada and I have bookends on their careers from 1996 for Derek to 2009 I mean you play for one particular reason is to win a championship we've been fortunate to win five of them so anytime you're on the field for the last out that's that's it stands out the most [Music] [Applause] [Music] she has scores here comes [Music] [Applause] - Ilana the right-center it is high it is fun it is Senate bill will to share a scores [Music] that experience to me was almost like a dream it was very unreal for me it wasn't so much about winning the MVP or anything like that it was a nice experience but I joined the Yankees because I wanted to win a serious more than anything 2009 was was winning running for the boss I remember Derek Jeter saying we need to win win this one for the boss and then to do so I remember seeing him cry tears of joy and what I saw and how I interpret it was a man that was so proud of winning or another World Series title for the organization that you know he built but also I saw tears of joy from a man that was so proud of his family we're taking on the leadership role that he had and proving to him that they can continue his legacy some of the guys you play with are still out on the field you feel like there's still a little connection there of the guys that you played with and what was accomplished in the late nineties the 2000 to me one of the most important championships in recent memory and maybe in the organization's history because it was the first year of the new state the ghosts of the old stadium clearly came over to this new stadium and the Yankees being able to christen the new stadium with the World Series championship in its first year to me ranks up at the top in terms of importance and overall impact that I think any inky inky championship ever pretty fitting that the first year in New York my first year in New York we have a new stadium I'm a Yankee for the first time and we win a World Series for the first time in nine years you grew up a little boy playing the game of baseball and we dream of playing in the big leagues and playing in the World Series for me my dream came true so you know for that I'll forever be grateful it was the most important for me since within one after 2000 and just take it for granted [Music] [Applause] I caught the 27th out of the 27th World Championship for the Yankees a moment I'll never forget it was the best moment I believe in my career I just feel Warner wool serious and then be with all my teeth is in the mound it's not just winning the game six that's nuts and obvious but just the entire journey of 2009 was pretty special you
