hey what's up everyone miles deep here finally back with a different kind of video this time i have a little story to tell you as you can see from the title of this video i was reported to the faa a few times actually uh to make this video more interesting i'm gonna be talking over some old footage that i recorded a while ago the audio got messed up so i never got a chance to use it so this is a good time to show it to you so i was reported to the faa and was called by one of their agents what we're looking at right here by the way is the palm island ferry which is the only way to get onto the island of palm island from the mainland there's no bridge anyway they're all working from home right now because of corona so they're going through a lot of youtube videos and going through complaints finding people who broke the rules aka me and calling them i'm actually not entirely sure how they got my contact information but i got a call from the tampa faa office i spoke to an faa agent named tom he was actually really nice he educated me on a lot of rules that i was unaware of at the time he told me that i didn't have to take my videos down that i had violating vlos but he did ask me to put a disclaimer in the video description i said it wasn't a problem and i wanted to do everything that i could to follow the rules and fly responsibly and comply to the fda's rules after a long conversation we both felt good about the outcome and he closed my complaint case with the faa so that's it right i talked to tom and got everything settled no that's wrong about a month later another month into quarantine i got another call from the faa this time it was the miami office which i thought was weird because that's more than three hours away from me anyway i answered and scheduled a time to talk to a different agent when we got around to talking on the phone she told me that she'd seen several of my videos on youtube she was working from home as well and looking for violations i explained to her that i had already talked to a different agent from the tampa office and that we already discussed all the issues that i wasn't aware of before and now i was doing everything i could to not violate any rules she was very nice and genuinely seemed like she wanted to help educate me she went over the rules with me again which i was fine with because i really do want to operate as safely as possible and try not to break any rules after going over everything she said that she noticed i had ads on my youtube videos i said yes but i don't use any of the money for personal use all the money goes back into the youtube channel so i can purchase new equipment like drones or new cameras i just recently bought a new gopro uh which is true by the way anyway she said that this was a violation because any use of a drone to further a business even if you're not earning money directly and yes a youtube channel does count as a business requires a part 107 license we agreed that i would get my part 107 license and she closed my case so i studied for about a week and boom i got my part 107 license i don't have my physical license yet but here's a picture of my exam sheet the test is no joke you have to know how to read taf reports and meet our reports which are aviation weather reports you have to know airport traffic patterns no different classes of air spaces and a whole bunch of other stuff it's kind of crazy that i need to know all of that just to fly a 249 gram mavic mini for youtube which you don't even have to register until i put the strobe on it also it was a real bummer that the audio got messed up for this clip because i had a really good conversation with the fairy drivers after i flew my drone they called this the palm island fairy dance because the fairies switch between each other varying cars from palm island to the mainland and they do that several times a day it's pretty cool no physical bridge connecting the island the test cost me about 160 dollars but i do find this kind of information interesting so it wasn't difficult to make myself study and it's not too expensive especially in comparison to getting an actual private pilot's license which can cost 10 000 plus dollars i didn't pay for a course to help me study there's a lot out there but i didn't feel like spending an extra 300 on something when there's tons and tons of free information available online i heard a lot of good things about these courses and i'm sure they're great but that wasn't the route that i took so don't worry i'm not trying to sell you one basically i watched a lot of youtube videos i'll link a couple of the ones i think are really good in the description i took a lot of free practice tests and i use space repetition learning note cards through the app anki i think this method of learning works really well for me i mean i scored a 90 on the test so i did pretty well so i'm really happy with my results and i feel like i retained a lot of the information so now i'm an officially licensed part 107 pilot and fully licensed to make money from my videos on youtube i'm sorry for the long break i also took an awesome trip to the beautiful state of oregon and i'll definitely be posting some videos there thanks for sticking around to hear my story now that i have my license i'll be able to post a lot more and remember like if you want to subscribe if you feel like it and i'll catch you in the next video you
