I Took a British Isles Cruise and It Surprised Me

if you asked me a couple of years ago where do i want to go on a cruise i would have said hawaii the caribbean the mediterranean maybe asia but the british owls wouldn't have come to mind i was really happy cruising to destinations far away i thought that really that's what cruising was it's so easy for us from the uk to get to somewhere with better weather very fast i thought to myself why would i waste my time and my money cruising around the uk i already know the uk princess invited me to take a cruise around the british house with journalists and other media people i had cruise with princess before so i knew that i loved princess but i had never cruised by myself before i was a bit nervous about that and also british isles i didn't know if i would regret taking my time off work to cruise around britain i have to admit i did have all of these visions of us floating offshore and it being grey and it being rainy and everybody on board being really old and it being really boring that's what i had in my mind before my cruise my first issue came when i realized that i would need to pack for a british hours cruise normally my crew suitcase is full of shorts and t-shirts and hats and swimwear i wasn't too used to packing my coat for a cruise what i actually did for this cruise was instead of putting my clothes away once i had washed them i put them into my suitcase so that i could work out what i actually wore i'm definitely guilty of taking things on cruises that i don't wear in my real life and there's a reason normally why you don't wear those clothes in real life i own loads of pairs of jeans but it turns out i only wear a couple of pairs so by doing that i managed to pack the things that i actually wear i did bring some extra dresses for the evening but being from the uk pretty much what you're going to wear on a british arse cruise is what you wear in daily life it's going to be a t-shirt it's going to be a jumper and it's going to be a coat your british ism of the week is what we call a jumper a jumper is kind of an umbrella term that encompasses hoodies sweaters cardigans anything basically that's not a coat but it's also not a t-shirt you may not need a coat every day on a british ice cruise but you're probably going to need a jumper i do have a full packing guide for how to pack on a british ice cruise if you go on any search engine type in emma cruz's british isles packing you will find it even though i am born and raised in england we visited so many places on my british arms cruise that i had never visited before i think that does tend to be the way you don't explore things that are close to home and doing this cruise really gave me the chance to appreciate where i'm from our first port of call on this cruise was dublin in ireland and i had my first ever guinness i feel as though you have to have a guinness when you go to dublin and i did have half a pint it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be it's really not my kind of drink but it was okay i feel like you need to do that in dublin and it's such a bubbly drink let me know if you like guinness i usually do my own thing when i'm in poor i will wander around i will get on a train i will book my own admission to places it's normally a lot cheaper to do that but i have to say doing these organized excursions it was so nice to wake up every day and just have everything organized for you that's definitely a perk of cruising organized excursions and you're gonna have to do that if you're in 2021 in 2022 if you're watching this in the future hopefully we'll be back to normal and you can do what you like the cruise that i took was on board the royal princess which is a really amazing cruise ship one of my favorites my favorite cruise that i've ever taken was on board the golden princess who was an older smaller cruise ship for princess they don't have her anymore but we sailed from singapore to tokyo onboard that cruise and the british isles cruise i took with princess was great but singapore to tokyo onboard the golden princess the best cruise in my life hands down so far because we were doing princess organized excursions in every port we were very very busy on this cruise but we did find time to go in the hot tubs we went in the hot tubs when it was raining it was so unbelievably cold it was fantastic as long as you kept the water up as high as you could but as soon as you got out of those hot tubs the wind it was absolutely freezing but recommend it it was fun i didn't know anybody when i embarked this cruise but i did meet some lovely people which was fantastic some of them this was their first cruise which meant that i actually got to break the news to one of my friends that everything in the buffet you can eat it anytime and it is free i think once you've been on a couple of cruises you kind of forget to appreciate things like that but seeing a cruise through first time cruiser's eyes it was it was so good and also the chocolate chip cookies in the princess buffet the best and i have tried every cruise lines cookies our next port on this cruise was in belfast and we went to see the giants causeway i had been to the giants causeway before but it's one of the strangest places i've ever been and it was always interesting to explore it i think you can see this place over and over again and you won't you won't get bored of it the giants causeway is made up of 40 000 of these columns and it's around 60 million years old they're all of these stories about giants creating the giants causeway it's very interesting if you like your history if you like your geography it's a cool place to go for sure we also stopped off and saw some of the game of thrones filming spots at the time i had never watched game of thrones i have watched it now and i loved it so i think i'm gonna have to go back to appreciate those bits again one of the main things that people say when i talk about british house cruises and it did worry me a bit too is of course the weather in belfast it rains 213 days per year apparently but we were very very lucky with the weather that said even if you're lucky on a british ice cruise you need to bring a coat you need to bring an umbrella at one point when we were in scotland we were docked i was actually sat out on my balcony and i was almost sunbathing i'm not sure if i can call it sunbathing it was around 15 degrees c which is about 60 fahrenheit for us here in the uk that is glorious it's been around that temperature this week and i've been out every single day sunbathing but i understand if you're watching this from florida or any hot place in the world 60 degrees fahrenheit is not sunbathing weather for you here in the uk we have to make do as soon as the sun comes out we get outside for barbecues we're we're ready i did have a balcony cabin on this cruise which was amazing i'm normally more of an inside cabin girl i'm definitely a budget cruiser but having a balcony cabin and having one to myself meant that i was entirely in charge of the temperature of the room and whatever i wanted to watch on tv i could i could do that i remember watching what was it greatest showman greatest showman had just come out i watched greatest showman so many times on that cruise princess have these amazing very very comfortable beds i did have a look when i came home from this cruiser how much it would cost to buy the beds because you can buy the princess beds and let's just say i could probably book another cruise for that price so i haven't but i will take another princess cruise to sleep in that bed it was amazing huge so comfortable probably the best bed i've ever slept in i think so next stop on our cruise was glasgow and i managed to meet a friend who i've known for years and years and years who lives up in glasgow that was really nice unfortunately if you're watching this in 2021 and taking a british ice cruise you will not be able to meet up with friends you'll not be able to wander off because you have to stay with the excursion of the cruise line for coving safety measures if you're watching this 2022 or into the future hopefully things will be back to normal it's a great way just to send somebody a message to surprise them and say i'm going to be in glasgow on this date if you're free let's meet up and you can see your friends i loved visiting all of these ports but my favorite is the next and it's definitely the rainiest we visited in the gordon and we went to have a look for the loch ness monster i didn't see the loch ness monster at least i don't think i did but it was still a very cool day if quite rainy it was quite rainy up there we also visited ercart castle which is just by loch ness and we learned about all the history of everybody who had been there since the 13th century if you're somebody who likes your history british charles cruises there's so much history hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and thousands and millions of years of history around the uk i was quite lucky with this cruise because i'm from the south of england none of the places that we docked at were next to my home port i understand why some people will be annoyed if they live in liverpool to fly down to southampton to take a cruise back to liverpool if i was doing a cruise like that and i was docking basically at home what i would do is i would make that a sea day a private sea day i wouldn't get off i wouldn't get off and pop home i would stay on the ship and enjoy the ship for everything that the ship is it's basically like a sea day but with less people there which is ideal often on the port days you can get things like spa treatments cheaper so take advantage of everything just enjoy it as if it's your own cruise ship that's what i would do before i took this cruise i definitely thought that it would be a lot of elderly british people on this cruise no problem with that at all but i was actually very surprised by who was on this cruise the majority of the people who were on my cruise were american canadian australian and that makes perfect sense if you're going to fly all the way to the uk you might as well do a british isles cruise again if you're taking one of the 2021 british house cruises it is going to be all british people on board but i don't see that as a bad thing i quite like my fellow british people i had an amazing time on this cruise and i was really surprised just by the amazing places that were on my doorstep the british house crews kind of gave me a chance to sit back and appreciate where i'm from and i was very very lucky with the weather i did book a british house cruise with princess for this august but it didn't exactly go to plan to find out what happened to that cruise and what i did as a result watch this video next
