I kind of sort of suck at miniature painting and I don't really have any interest in getting better at it I hate Edge highlighting and glazing so I've always been more of a shall we say quantity over quality sort of guy overwhelm the eye with sheer numbers and it looks past the quality issues but recently I have had a life-changing experience with army painter speed paints and their improved 2.0 formula is now available for order now they did Supply this kit to me but I do mean it in my nine years in this tabletop Miniatures hobby there's been three or four key moments where something revolutionized or reinvigorated my time in my workshop here when DM Scotty showed me how to texture things with hot glue when I first used approxen hot wire cutter when I discovered Graphics medium chipboard and now this when I've tried speed Paints the product won me over within minutes I am probably done with conventional paints these are a miracle for someone like me the color explosion is gorgeous and the advertised three in one steps is pretty darn accurate I'm going to show you a bunch of models I painted here in this video because I've been painting like a madman and I think the longest I took on any of them was about four minutes these paints do so much of the work for you and have such great density that even my kids got into it and could get decent results in their battle Tech lances it has opened a whole new world for me with them which could be a separate video all on its own this Mega set is typical Army painter stuff a bunch of inserts that are pretty well made for newbies and all the paints come in these cheap plastic things and it's got included QR codes directed some video tutorials though I will say the quality of those videos is a little bit technically lacking the content is good but the video quality audio lighting resolution frame rate crispness all that could stand to improve a bit but whatever they make paints not videos there's plenty of Pros out there who make videos on how to use these paints by the way I need to mention I have a newfound respect for all the mini painting kids out there doing miniature painting on video is hard stuff goes out of focus and the camera is in your way and you gotta be still as a statue so man newfound respect the physical bulk of this side of the hobby may not be nearly as much as mine but the dedication needed to produce a watchable video that's hard anyway it is a handsome array of bottles good spread of colors including three metallics now in their tutorial documentation Army painter recommends that you prime up a model then start with the zenithal Highlight okay I can do that type into Miniatures for eight years and then after it dries you simply apply the contrast paint now the brush that's provided is I think perfect you really only need this one size unless you're doing very large area coverage and my first couple models came out pretty blotchy pretty heavy darkened down but then you get the hang of it and you learn that really you need to put a good amount of paint on there it's sort of like a wash if you try and spread it thin you're just going to stain the model as opposed to keeping it pooled and liquid enough that it flows where it's supposed to however the speed paint does not flow like a wash I was worried about that but it pretty much stays where you put it it's kind of miraculous I still recommend waiting a few minutes for a coat to dry before you do an a butting color so that you don't risk them running together but still even when I was in a hurry I think that only happened once or twice it's amazing how it flows but still stays in place it's hard to describe the color Vibrance is off the charts and on camera here it looks almost like neon sometimes it looks a bit too much but I gotta say in person these are perfect from a few feet away at the game table it's very apparent which miniature is yours cool features stick out color density incredible of course you can use them over any sort of base coat I had these mummies staged from months ago that I've simply never gotten around to I had already base coated them with beige so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to test some things out I got out the Hop light gold and applied it and this gold goes on well I was really doubtful that the metallics would go on just like the colors did but they do if you're after tabletop standard speed paint you can get away with using these metallics as opposed to a metallic plush a dark wash my one minor complaint is that this hot light gold is sort of a muted desaturated gold I'd like if this set included more of a yellowish greedy gold like a gold gold there's like seven or eight different Browns I think you could have ditched one of them and in that slot give us a fourth metallic now for as much work as they do you are still limited by your ability to control a brush and in fact you're basically coloring in the lines it's sort of like coloring in a coloring book unlike conventional painting where you can go back and fix it if you've done a xenithal highlight for your undercoat you're not really going to be able to fix that so you do need to practice and master your triangle of power using pinky fingers for stability choking up to the metal fail rule on the brush and learning your angle of attack for the bristles with these speed Paints the angle of attack is mostly gonna be perpendicular to the work which I think for pros is not a new thing but for me it was anyway it forced me to get better at that and as soon as I did by the sixth or seventh miniature I painted I was getting clean results and clean boundaries between colors foreign I put together kind of as a joke I don't know a year or two ago and it's been sitting based and washed on my shelf again opportunity to finish it so I covered up some spots on this model with a very very light gray and then I tried the Ashen stone color I was very curious about this because I've never been able to paint white very well I've watched all the tutorials that say you don't actually use true white you use a gray you lightly wash it with a bluish or a greenish and then you do a white Edge highlight but still I've never been able to get it also the flesh colors there are several of them included in this set and they're all fantastic peachy flesh in particular has always been a hard spot for me but with speed paints no longer look at this guy this took three minutes three minutes love this guy what about these models that are sold pre-primed out of the box ready for painting how does the paint perform on them answer flawlessly no cleaning or prep work needed I just cut open the package and within 90 seconds this miniature was done [Music] also yellows I hate yellows but these yellows these are good yellows this is a doubly hard test because it's on a battle Tech back lots of flat surfaces one could argue it end up looking a little splotchy but I think it looks better worn just recently started to get into battle Tech and these speed paints absolutely work for Mech Miniatures nothing to stop you from a little bit of highlighting afterward and touching up the gun barrels with some traditional gunmetal of course but getting the base coat done and not having to do panel lining oh game changer recent d d campaign session I'll spare you the details long and short of it is the party ended up fighting a zombie bear you could find anything online nowadays so I found one printed it and painted it now this Satchel Brown is a gorgeous brown but it's pretty dark each paint still does have its own little nuances but after it's bone dry there's nothing to stop you going back and doing a little bit of dry brushing which is what I did I think this is their traditional monster Brown and so despite what I said before I'll keep traditional paints on hand for little touch-ups like this but as far as base coating and layering and stuff probably will never use them again and so now with weekly games and wanting to have bespoke Miniatures that represent that evening's issues between speed Paints in my 3D printer it's about 30 minutes total of desk time to get ready every week and this has me psyched and walking out of the game store one day I saw this troll marks down I figured that why not it's a chance to test the paint on a large area and see how it looks now this is nasty troll skin so of course splotchiness is gonna be okay and again you can go back and highlight over this now part of the 2.0 formula is that it's more durable it doesn't rub off with the finger like some of the 1.0 paints apparently did I don't know I never tried any of them but in all the three dozen models I painted for this video I never had any rubbing off or reactivation issues with the paint oh and when the instructions warn you to not squeeze the bottle too hard but rather shake it up some more because it probably means the ball is plugging up the nozzle they mean it heed that warning and so here's my first set of four no idea if they fit together yet these were just randomly selected and painted because at the moment I'm more interested in the painting and like I said the eight-year-old and the six-year-old both painted some here are their lances as you can see mine's really not that much better after these next two minutes I'm just gonna show off some of the DND models that I printed and painted and mounted on clear bases my new standard for the table is anything that's not a monster that could be like a player or an NPC I'm starting to put on clear bases so that they'll sort of fit in anywhere anyways these are all rotating around please consider checking out my backlog of videos and liking subscribing and notification Bell and all that because I guess the trendy thing to do is say hey my subverse watch ratio is way out of whack because notifications don't work because YouTube whatever so that's fine also I'm on patreon and I'm on Etsy I published a few cheap DND modules some years back and you can get up there they're not great they're not bad but you know they're fine and they're priced accordingly also as always I'm partnered with Heroes horde for you 3D printers out there an excellent selection of fantasy based Miniatures including but not limited to the original 1.25 inch grid true tiles so check that out and if you're into cyber Punk by the end of this year I'll be publishing my cyberpunk system neon Skies novel new rules and setting should be plenty there for even Veterans of the genre to explore and discover now right now I'm really on a role-playing kick so I haven't done much mass Miniatures War gaming 40K one page rules any of that but surely it'll come around again when it does I imagine I'll do a video series about painting an entire army with these speed paints in conclusion I will give no conclusion because I think I've been pretty clear throughout the video I love this product and it's a legitimate game changer for me go and buy it I'm wylock make things and play games [Music] okay [Music]
