were my first time seeing it now with my moist fat adult brain sticks out with the fire crowd just like oscar does with the water types and by stick out i mean you don't take a look at every fire starter now take a look at chimchar looking more like a baby pokemon than a region's first choice you can all gas up greninja as much as you want today but if you were around back in 2013 you'd know that no one was writing froakie actually no one was writing any of them eight years ago it's hard to say now but i think chespin was seen as the most popular choice up until the other evolutions got leaked and greninja seemed like the lesser of three side men i know it's mad to think in hindsight when everyone loves them now bunch of glory hunters the lawyer but i reckon and i think we all know it's really because the prospect of being publicly seen with aquiladine scared people into choosing froakie froakie got roasted before its evolutions came in to make the save and use it all right the first time doesn't matter how hard it's gonna peak when it grows up because as it stands for now it is a very collapsed looking frog looks like it gets shoved into lockers on the daily by local poliwags how are you gonna get shoved into a locker by an armors tadpole gala comes at you with a bit of a hard sell who could blame anyone for being indecisive with this slot you got the golden boot favorite it's because it was your first pokemon or you just really like torterra because i outright refuse to believe that anyone who isn't a psychopath finds any appeal and growth looking at all 24 of these funny little characters here you choose a lump of soil it was the most tame grass starter by a long stretch when only four generations existed and now today double the generations double the contenders and still the undisputed side man of the grass type starters but hey what do i know i rated a crab of boxing gloves and it's so much i made a shirt out of it all right a jiu jitsu cephalopod so much i'm tempted to do the same just like what you like except gretel your weapons for a region which collectively has the most bang on average looking set at nine starters and evolutions fennekin it might just be the most bang on average starter pokemon going it's serviceable it gets the job done is is is he up enough where could probably use it as an air fryer if you don't mind the hairs but uh i'm kind of drawing a blank here i'm too neutral on fennekin i really don't think they could have designed a more c-grade starter if they intentionally tried to do that being in a 2011 mindset for a long while when it came to black and white i thought tepid pig was a turbo side man as well for the longest time and you know what still is the first time playing through the games growing up what i was actually turned off from the fire choice could you even blame me how's anyone gonna go out of their way for something literally called a lukewarm pig might need to get back in the airfryer set that boy to reheat till it comes out spicy enough to be worth my time and infernape was already pushing it just a little bit being another fire fighting type so soon after blaziken but you triple down and you go for another one and not to mention our brief moment in its lifespan it's gonna look this claps instant side man starter contention but in all fairness it's nowhere near as roast worthy as i used to think because tepig's a lower tier starter for sure you're still what 18th here but the more you look at it it's actually a solid enough design for as lukewarm as its name suggests poplio got roasted big time when the alola trio got revealed i bet a lot of those people loved oshawa too they'd rather have their plain ready salted sea otter over this goofy lad of a sea lion and it might be my last choice if i ever somehow regain the patience to play through alola again but it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the crowd made it out to be back in 2016. if anything for being 10 times as memorable as as uh popplio the second i held my ground back in 2013. i didn't fall victim to the great quilled in reveal shakeout justin was marcallo's choice it's just a shame that greninja looked like the kalos main character and quilladine had to look like the kalos comic relief character that be voiced by james corden so chespin just had all of its hype absorbed the brown color palette overpowering the green makes it stand out a lot more compared to your standard weaponized leaf and chespin was very needed for a line up as collectively skin and bone as kalos sounds a bit harsh putting it that way but compared to everywhere else that region's starving they're all decent enough but decent enough isn't decent enough for starter pokemon standards really think about it if they botched greninja and even frogadier so badly that it couldn't be a main character which one of these is getting remembered none of these are getting in smash none of these are getting an ash form without greninja who would be the most recognized who else but chespin i know it just set alright chessman for taking a different aesthetic direction for grass designs compared to your standard weaponized leaf but you know i wouldn't say no to the weaponized leaf either i get it the literal number one pokemon and even kanto as a whole was a tough act to follow up on 20 years back and it's definitely not the greatest in game i'm not saying it's up there in the god arceus tears and i understand that it has all of the symptoms there to medically diagnose it as mid but even then deserves a little bit more respect because for a lot of people it seems chicorita is their undisputed worst starter or at least in the bottom tier that's some high level disrespect when you take a room temperature pig or a sentient house plant over a miniature dinosaur are you joking me alright fair fair enough the dinosaur is a big stretch up until you strap the experience share on it maybe it's a glorified house plant just like tartwig as well but at least here you've got the end products you've got the full pair already grown it's not roaming about still in the soil phase you've already got a stew going with chikorita at least rowlet's coming in here a lot lower than i anticipated coming into making this video so here's where i'm at i still do like rowling i've not retconned being straight on the rowlet hype train it was a valid decision but there's something about it that i can't explain it's like you know how i said over time the more you look at tepig it actually starts to look less bad i kind of have the opposite with rowlip not that it looks like a bad design suddenly but for me the longer you stare at rowlet the weirder it starts to look and i have no idea why nah it doesn't matter how long i give it a good ocular pat down for and my brain deteriorates as i think it looks weirder and weirder because weird isn't bad it's still a top boy i gotta give him that i can understand in game there isn't really a wrong choice for gala but in practice if i had to deal with kids i'd much rather go and play football in the garden with him then i have to put up with him crying every two minutes so how would you even choose sobble over a footballing rabbit all it does is piss and moan wanna know what score buddy does gets dubs scores guarantees you a solid that that's real i was just joking about the edl people actually did that one i avoid spoilers for new pokemon so i had no clue this common house cat would one day become the macho man's far sona no regrets with rowlet because decidueye is a weapon so i know what i'm choosing for legends arceus but whenever i pick up alola again lytton isn't going over my head this time because again even without evolution lines in consideration lytton is a trimmed up design does the same as chess spin and uses a unique color palette compared to the rest of the fire starters remember that little quirky classic i heard you like mode keeps heard you like what you heard wrong my man mudkip is mid kip when you're comparing it to half of the starters but wait nah here hear me out now how do you like hoenn now that's a bit more like it because it's a tough lineup to compete with here so tough that b plus bridging into eight here is apparently mid i mean what segment's this 11 out of well really 24 if you're being serious and that feels wrong because mid isn't something you could describe the hoenn starters as because i really can't decide i just can't separate three certified bangers torchic is my guy but i don't know how you can say there's a wrong option here if you woke up late and birch's lab had slim pickings you'd still have a top shelf banger waiting for you actually if you woke up late but you would have got mauled by a zig zagoon when out of all nine taking evolutions into account for a second you have trico in like seventh place probably that's how you know you've got an elite lineup of 10th birthday presents to choose from someone a long time ago and hopefully now old enough to be funnier than that might have told you i like mode keeps i like you saying i like mud kips you're talking to me that's some slander i mean i mean i feel like marcus is all right but you must have misheard because what your ears should be picking up is i like piplup easily the sinnoh starter of choice it's got a slight bit of competition up in the big boys stages but as it stands as a youngin it's a no contest if you're comparing chimchar and turtwig to this i'm sorry usher what more like osha who osha who cares so wonder his suey got its act together and started handing out piplups by the time it got that sinnoh rebrand not only was generation five a turning point for me as a player it didn't just put me off the fire type for the first time it actually made me opt for the grass type for the first time as well my initial impression wasn't so much that i liked snivy but it was the lesser of three sidemen at the time i couldn't bring myself to even consider taking an oscar war or a tepee back then i'm trying to keep this as unbiased as possible and not compare them to their evolution line but i still have to ask myself do i really like snivy more than most people seem to or is it just because i'm more interested in what it evolves into yeah nah nah snivy's a banger on its own got one of those designs filled with personality to it looks like a proper joker doesn't he if snivy were your friend he'd think it's funny convincing your other mates that up until age 14 you'd only ever eat food if it were cut in the shape of a dinosaur and that's the smirk he'd give you when he somehow gets away with it and they'll believe him in some regions it's a very simple transaction you've done your research you know who the sidemen are all right just give you the piplup then you have a region like hohen where they make a strong case for being the most consistent trio but i've gotta say professor oak's boys have to be the most airtight in that sense i don't think it's even an exaggeration for me to say that if you're botched these three and their evolutions especially pokemon wasn't ever making that 100 billion the starter trio that people use as a personality trait on par with hogwarts houses you already know i'm part of that squirtle squad but it wasn't easy making that decision kanto had to go and make it so difficult you just wanted all three of them pokemon yellow did it right you have three very equal options here bulbasaur isn't just a choice of refined culture it's objectively the correct choice in game i don't know if the new games even go by this i don't even know if gen 2 did given that chicory walked straight into a flying type gym but bulbasaur was easy mode and you can rank it anywhere you want either way it's always gonna be number one and you can hate charizard as much as you want for being rinsed out getting first in line every time the latest gimmick comes around but don't let that seep into grilling charmander too he's done nothing wrong who could ever hate this spicy little lizard character and of course the absolute unit himself everyone's favorite shelled companion i just want to slap his bald head and tell him he's a good boy after a hard day's graft of sticking him on other people's pets and legally obtaining their pocket money reaping the rewards of his bikes professor oak's table is as top shelf as it gets a treble of instant classics that's why i've had to put them all at the back end of this video neck and neck and bob so you even have a neck cyndaquil may just be the johto region's lovable hedgehog starter but for me it's every region's gold base form fire starter a little porcupine fella with fire for his quills not even up for dispute if that's a banger or not i don't want to hear it i'm not having it it's very clear that the sinner region used to have a far better taste for its fire starters back in the day what kind of devolution happened here going from something as unique as cyndaquil to charcoal chimp you know what he's suey sinnoh we'll call it even since they did already give us that massive upgrade from osha who to emperor piplup grooky really had to go and do it to him chimp charcoal really get exposed here turns out you can have a monkey starter with a bit of charisma behind him looking so sleek in comparison not even just a chimchar to any starter going almost even with the top set pe rabbit gala made its starter choice way too easy if you had grooky down in kanto you wouldn't catch ash sleeping in he'd have 20 alarms set he'd have a half hour long wallace and gromit machine that drops an anvil on his head four hours before oak's lab even opens have to make sure you're first in line to cop that grookie spawn us that monkey sammy is the undisputed number one starter pokemon of any stage of evolution fueled by nostalgia oh most definitely you're damn right totodile gets me plastered on nostalgia peak nostalgia trip it takes me down how could it not be when it's literally the first pokemon i and many others have ever used so dial could have been one of the first words i ever read properly for all i know man made me pay attention to being literate the one that even my caveman child brain that was easily attracted to fire still preferred over the also top dollar cinderquil that's how you know but even without the gray tinted 8-bit lens on totodile is still the triple s plus tear-orbed companion not up for debate the elite of
