yes [Music] welcome everybody to a very special video it's one of those picture self moments career highlight today reason being I'm at the Monaco Grand Prix I'm here with Renault f1 and in a few minutes I'm going to go out for a few hot laps with none other than Daniel Ricciardo in a brand new Renault Megane trophy are the most hardcore renault megane you can buy no buggering lap record front-wheel drive it's going to be amazing so let's go check it out [Music] here we go oh I'm in I'm gonna ask you a few questions if that's all right we're just gonna have a bit fun go for it well I'm gonna have fun probably [Music] here we go [Music] Daniel I'm going to ask you some questions starting with what is that why do you look so depressed all the time so depressed yeah I hate my life yeah yeah what's wrong with it I just all my like my life my fans they're all just idiots why I don't know how much group this has absolutely this is embarrassing that's right I'll just tell him I'll I'll let him win today you know I don't know I like living my dream job so yeah they got to be happy right absolutely yeah well you know so how have you settled into Renault I think pretty well like the transition was obviously something I was excited for but curious as well because I was like well I don't know is it I'm so used to Red Bull and and the way the team works and it sounds kind of a little bit apprehensive but it's it's been good question three and this is a mister for a friend what's your advice for a 34 year old man with two hours racing experience Jesus oh my god that made me feel really sick right I'm gonna repeat that question and again this is me asking for a friend what's your advice for a 34 year old man with two hours racing experience who wants to get into f1 takes two hours racing experience who wants to get into f1 yeah what are you calling again be born again yeah stop being deluded hobby it I'll tell my friends my friends really what are the most fun had boring aspects of being an f1 driver mr. Daniel Ricciardo it was it was a terrible meeting you yeah no it's fairly average my expectations were low and you didn't disappoint it's been good thank you very much man I hope to maybe see you again one day hopefully not okay cool no it's well he's very rude doesn't he's a very rude young man mr. Daniel Ricciardo but me can he drive this is the first time he's ever driven the Macan trophy our or pretty much any McGann and yeah Nico was quite a lot faster and then by the end of it when we were doing our cooldown laps he absolutely nailed it and then I felt very vomity great driver awesome car as well the handling is fantastic suspensions amazing it feels totally dialed in I mean it's one of the few road cars that made me feel really sick really really vomity actually so I'm probably gonna find the nearest helmet and just throw up in that beer apart from that it was amazing after managing my vomit levels back down to a 5 out of 10 we all headed to the Renault pits where I was able to ask a less distracted Daniel Ricciardo about what the trophy are is like to drive normally when you drive a road car swishy when you push it you feel like it's heavy and lazy as we say because they got so much more weight and they're a lot of softer and you know but that was so spark world impress centre they've done quite a bit of weight saving for this car and getting through the chicane and the response was was good so yeah that was I would say better than I anticipated well it's gained at once then how would my interview technique you're folding your arms already else he's honest I know but you can put your hand in my pocket you're impressed right you've never come on what you know what that's wrong never sinned Talladega Nights No we should have this interview right now you seem to collect a lot of paper that's a mercy from WTF one soon as you mentioned WTF 1 hours I world's just another person the sound it's gonna in the same way Michael I knew WTF no nice to answer your question how was your interview yes yeah pretty good continuing my answer yes something about that we're done with my big toe away from the track I had a few minutes to chat about the trophy our with none other than the man in charge of Renault Sport very nice thank you nice to meet you first of all congratulations on making such a wicked badass car later Daniel took me out and yeah it was it was interesting the brakes are extreme we've got carbon ceramics they're like dinner plates at least tell me how much work goes into making a car that laps a Nurburgring faster than any other probably all drive car it was quite some work we started with the magan trophy or s trophy which is already pretty good we didn't touch the engine we worked on the weight on the chassis on the balance and there's a close word between our test driver and our engineers and they were able to fine-tune the car so that it makes it nice so we've got a bit more power we've got 300 horsepower weight saving of 130 kilograms looking at the car you can see we've got carbon wheels carbon ceramic brakes carbon bonnets what's your favourite feature if you had to pick one feature of this car was the one thing that he's the one oh yeah the one you see here yeah I like this is that your babies because well we needed also to improve the cooling for the that that lap and also it's it was quite difficult to design a carbon carbon bonnet so we were pretty happy with the result and in terms of driving dynamics what have you done to the braking system what have you done to suspension well you know the the in the Nurburgring where we make the differences in the corners so you need very good brakes and then you need to find the right balance to increase the G's we have more more lateral acceleration with this car with I think any front-wheel drive so that that's where we put all the effort and in terms of interior the seats are slightly different you sit slightly lower is that correct let's eat Sydney's lighter mainly please I'd like to take you to the rear of the car my favorite part is the rear we've got this massive diffuser the exhaust pipes I think it's really really cool that they flow downwards why is that to increase the downforce we have more downforce with this system than with the standard diffuser so we had to redesign the last largest parroted of the exhaust it's also titanium exhaust and we put carbon here which allows us to have thinner fins and so it's light lighter and more final question when you guys clinched the Nurburgring lap time what were the emotions like it was great it was great because we you know we went for first lap and we're still a little bit wet so he didn't make it and he went the second time this time he made it so it was it was great for the whole team yeah showers yes thank you very giving life to the mound that we've got to thank for the fastest car around the Nurburgring front-wheel drive that is thanks for watching what was one of the most incredible days I've ever had on the job remember you can subscribe to car throttle by clicking this link to watch more videos it's here and don't forget to check out the car throttle shop right there
