so you know those 300 and something yards of finished fluffy frilly flounces in the last cinderella video you know the ones that have about a thousand yards of hem to them yeah those it's time to get them attached together and make one extremely large petticoat but a couple points before getting there as i'm making this petticoat i had to change my pattern slightly compared to my previous assumptions that i mentioned in some of my previous videos such as adding more gores and just a few other things but don't worry too much i have a pdf pattern available for all those different layers and tiers that you're about to watch me make so if you're planning to make a cinderella petticoat i highly recommend checking out that link that will pop up and there's also one in the description below so with that let's get started first up this full-length layer made of white silk organza [Music] to strengthen the seams i'm doing a seam that sort of combines a french seam and a lapped seam i feel like there's an actual name for this seam but i just can't seem to find what it's called but anyway how i did it is i first sewed a regular quarter inch seam and then pressed the raw edges to one side then from the right side i pinch at the seam lifting it slightly and fold it over to one side creating a little pleat so to speak that contains the raw edges this little fold is about 3 8 inch wide i then do an iron to set the fold now i'm just doing a top stitch on both sides of the fold to keep it in place and repeat for all the seams before moving on to the next step i did give the hem a little bit of trim to make sure once the flounces were attached the hem would be even now it's time to attach those flances for this layer i've chosen an aqua and a lilac and it's a bit weird but when attaching the flounces i want the raw seam edges to be facing out like you see in this picture of the original dress i think this helps with the fall of the flounces so anyway i'm aligning the wrong side of the petticoat layer to the fountains i actually don't treat the flounces as if they have a wrong or a right side they technically do in a sense because there are seams along them but it just adds extra hassle to find the right versus wrong side of all the fountains and i personally don't think it's a huge deal seeing as there's so many yards of fountains all covering each other up after getting it sewn in place i'm now trimming the raw edges with pinking shears to stop the frame and now on to adding a lower tier to this layer this is the iridescent layer here that i had a hunch is actually a rectangle piece of folded fabric draped onto the layer that sounds weird but if you just keep watching it'll make a little more sense i first cut five strips of fabric the width of the fabric by 36 inches and then i got all the sides sewn together and i surged the edges to prevent fraying before we go on to attach it to the layer i'm first going to attach the fonses so on both sides i'm attaching two layers of flounces on one side i'm using my darker blue flounce and fonts is made of the same iridescent fabric [Music] and then after pinking those raw edges onto the second side where i attached a lighter blue flounce and another iridescent bounce but this iridescent one has a bit more of a blue aqua tint to it after getting that attached and pinking those raw edges i can go on to draping this piece on the previous full-length petticoat layer i'm first folding this piece in half horizontally and placing it like so [Music] after doing this all the way around and just getting a feel of what it's going to look like i ended up re-pinning and re-kind of playing with it to get a better drape out of each of the sections [Music] and here you can see what that finished drape looks like and now we get to sew all of these draping placements in place yay [Music] so first i'm going to do a vertical stitch of zigzags and it's going to be about 1 inches long now on the edges of the fabric i'm first going to pull the fabric in slightly so that the folded edge is now lying at an angle to that previous zigzag stitch and then i'm doing a zigzag stitch onto this folded edge this is the way that the fabric was falling when it was pinned in place so when sewing it all in place the last thing i want to do is break the natural fall of the fabric when i sew it [Music] i continue this all the way around the layer sewing at each point now on to full length layer number two again this is made of white silk organza and is a very similar pattern to layer number one but it has a slightly larger circumference at the bottom edge using the same seam as layer number one i got it all assembled and then i did trim down the bottom edge to make it even now to attach more flounces this time i used silver and pink as you can see and as you saw probably in some previous sewing i am no longer pinning the flounces on before sewing i'm just aligning them at the sewing machine as i sew so this is something i forgot that i did when i was doing that first connection of fonts's and petticoat layer but i realized this is what i did to save so much time in pinning and taking out pins and all that just do it at the machine and take a little more time sewing the seam with this full length layer now complete i am going to go on to the two lower tiers that need to be added to this layer both of these lower tiers are made up of godays and i'm going to use my blue silk organzas with the lower shorter tier i'm cutting out 15 godays and for the upper longer one there's ten [Music] starting with the lower tier let's get these pieces sewn together with the top points of these godays there's going to be six and a half inches not sewn to the other pieces so this creates a point and this is where the godays will be sewn to the full length petticoat layer after aligning all the pieces starting six and a half inches below that point it's time to sew the seams i chose to do a french seam with these just personal preference after getting all those go days sewn together i now need to mark the placements of this on that base layer i first measured up from the hem or more like where the fonts have been sewn to and mark at inch number 14. then along this line i mark my distance between the points which in my case is nine and a half inches i also mark the center of these measurements so at four and three quarters inch at this center mark i'm measuring down four and a half inches from the line this is going to be the bottom part of my points and now we just connect the dots and of course this needs to be repeated all the way around and should if my measurements are correct create 15 marked points in which my 15 godays will align two and that did happen and i can pin my goodies to the layer using the markings now for the joy of sewing these all in place i am just doing a simple top stitch about a half inch away from the raw edge while i'm sewing it's important to keep an eye on the marked lines to make sure it's not going all wonky with the swishing of the fabrics after getting that sewn in place i'm going to go all the way around again but this time folding the raw edge under and stitching near that fold this will contain the raw edge as well as add some strength to the attachment once that's all done i made sure the edge was hanging evenly and then it was time to attach more flounces and then we repeat for the next year [Music] [Music] it just keeps getting bigger and bigger and that is what it's supposed to do so the next layers are the three full-length layers all made of silk organza and also featuring the interesting v's at the waist the pattern for these are just large godays each layer will be subsequently longer but other than that they're the same pattern in order to fit all these pieces into the remaining silk organza i need to mismatch one of the layers with a combination of colors this layer will be the under layer to get as hidden as possible then the next one will be this darker blue and the outermost one a lighter blue and each of these layers has seven godays to get them sewn together i'll be using french seams and i'll be doing the same thing as the lower tier goday layers and leave a certain amount at the top point unsewn and that certain amount is six and a half inches [Music] [Music] [Music] now for the little v things at the waist i am just cutting out little fees the sides are six and a half inches and the top is four inches there will be six of these v's for each layer and these will just attach to the little left open points of the large godays with right sides together i'm attaching the little v's to the big godays and as you can see i've got to do some maneuvering to sew that bottom point [Music] after getting it inserted i'm now going to the right side and doing a top stitch to secure all the seam allowances smoothly in place plus to add a little extra strength to the attachment and then all the way around like this for each of the six fees once this was done i did a quick trim to even up the edge and then sewed on flounces repeat for the next two layers [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] and just like that all the flounces i can fit are attached and i can move on to the waistbands i am just using a piece of twill tape to make the waistbands this seems to be similar to what the waistband of the original looks like and that's why i'm doing it and then a clasp to just finish it up and i am having two waistbands for this [Music] petticoat [Music] [Music] do [Music] so [Music] do [Music] oh and i weighed myself the petticoat and the crinoline weigh about nine pounds i am pretty happy with that someone who worked on the actual dress that was used in the movie said that the dress and crinoline weighed a total of 12 pounds and she was really proud of this so considering mine is nine pounds so far and i just have the outer skirt to do i am very happy with where this is headed there you have it my sixth cinderella petticoat is complete the amount of finished frilly fluffy fontses i actually ended up using in this petticoat comes to around 200 yards but remember that is measuring the ruffled top gathered edge so the amount of hem in these 200 yards that i used is near 600 yards so 600 yards of hem though the thing is i am terribly tempted to add a couple more layers to this petticoat to use up a bit more of my fonts because i already have a mate i have 170 yards of them about plus you might have noticed i didn't use any of my tool frills that i was saying i was going to use i completely forgot about them they were in a separate pile and they just left my mind so i just kept sewing and making it and there's no tool in this petticoat oops anyway thank you for watching and remember you can find that pdf pattern for these petticoat layers and tiers down below and as always a huge thank you to my patrons who have been cheering me along this project i am so excited for the rest of the cinderella project and you can learn more about patreon at the links now go into your own sewing area and learn create and inspire and maybe you'll make a huge fluffy cinderella petticoat too you
