I Listened To Dream's Music So You Don't Have To...

I listen to Dreams Music so you don't have to now I know that recently dream hasn't been the most popular of people on the internet but I have noticed that recently he's become more active with releasing music and it's pretty clear that this is the direction he kind of wants to head in and I thought to myself hey I'm a musician I have something to say about that so today I went through and listened to each song individually on their own and I'm gonna tell you what I think so to begin the first song is a collab track called road trip with pnb bada the song came out on February 5th 2021 so this song is actually pretty straightforward so this is the first thing he's ever released so I'm gonna go pretty light on it because the first thing I released was pretty horrible it's kind of got that early like no copyright sounds Monstercat 2015 2016 kind of vibe to it I think the easiest criticism to go for in the whole track is it's pretty clear he's not very comfortable vocally but that's to be expected because it's his first song ever but I think what's surprising is the stark contrast between him and then the actual feature verse it's a pretty stark contrast and when you actually hear that feature come in it's on almost jolting a bit because he really clearly shows the levels but overall lyrically I don't think dream does anything too offensive here it's a pretty straightforward song overall it's not a bad song and once you have a strong audience like dream it's pretty easy for something like that to go insanely viral like it did one more note I also wanted to say is the song is pretty short it's only 2 minutes and 13 seconds so when it ended I kind of had this feeling like oh okay that's it next up on the list is of course everybody's favorite mask and this song dropped May 21st 2021. this is dream's first solo release and you can hear that he's definitely trying to do more vocally you can definitely hear more range and then when it comes to the mix of the song or the leveling of the song you can hear that everything is just a bit more cleaner and sharper my main criticism with this track is that when you start getting into the higher register it gets a little tricky and you can hear that he's struggling to stay on Pitch specifically the part that stood out to me on the chorus is the word terrifying you can hear that it really kind of fell flat again though because he's so early on it's pretty much to be expected that things are going to be rough like this but I do want to give props that he is trying to expand his vocal range the production of this song is definitely a bit more interesting than the last one as well they're using Like a Rock acoustic drum kit and I actually think it sits pretty nice another gripe of mine is one that I think most people are unfortunately going to feel the same way about lyrically this song starts to get a little rougher when you get to the second half of the song words that I wrote down here that really didn't sit right with me is one he says okay-ish and then he follows that up about 20 seconds later with failing all of my classes they think I need glasses of course we're going to be a little charitable because this is only his second song but those are pretty rough the vibe they're kind of giving me is like your fourth grade teacher thought that they could write a rap song and this is what they came up with ending off the track they have kind of this atmosphere closing and I actually think it's pretty nice the next song on the list is change my clothes with Alec Benjamin and it was dropped on August 20th 2021. overall I'm probably not the best person to get my thoughts on this track specifically because I'm not that crazy about the style of it this song to me feels the most inoffensive of the bunch like it's just trying to Coast through stylistically in that pop slash laid back genre something really weird about this track though is specifically his microphone quality just seems to be so extremely low on it but I'm a bit of a music nerd so maybe it doesn't bother you but it bothered me a little bit positive points of the song are first off the pitch was actually really on he didn't end up going into that higher register and I think that really benefited him it made it sound a lot more sharp and second off lyrically there was nothing in this one that really stood out to me in a negative way at all at the same time there wasn't anything that really grabbed me or pulled me into the song but I felt like it was alright the song is over three minutes though and I didn't know how necessary that felt I actually felt myself starting to get a little bit bored after we got past that first 45 seconds or so to me I feel like once we got past that point I've basically heard everything the song has to offer and it doesn't really switch up the formula past there after this he has a bit of a Hiatus and comes back with the next song Until I end up dead June 23 2023. this is actually a really great song it's pretty clear that he's been working hard and really trying to improve lyrically I do feel like this one is an improvement over last songs and what I thought was really good about this was when he goes into that higher register it actually hits really nicely although saying until I end up dead is a bit melodramatic I think he can actually get away with it with the delivery of the chorus like if I sit there and really think about the fact that it's dream saying that it can get a little cringy but if I'm just approaching it from a musical perspective I think it's fine I even want to say that the chorus is really catchy when it comes to these other songs remembering the vocal Melodies and lines is kind of difficult but this one I can still specifically remember the chorus production wise as well the song is pretty engaging and keeps me interested in actually looking forward to the next sections that are coming throughout the whole thing and finally the most recent song up to date is Everest and this song came out July 28 2023 and it has a feature by young gravy this is definitely his cleanest intro today and it had me really excited to hear what the rest of the song has to offer but unfortunately when we get to the chorus I feel like Things Fall Apart a little bit weirdly enough I felt like there was a certain muddiness over the track also performance wise guys I don't think it's his best to date to me I felt like the chorus was a bit annoying and grating and I knew that it was going to return later after that we go into the young gravy feature and it's about what you would expect from a young gravy feature he's a bit witty it's confidence he's just kind of going with it although I will say that stylistically it kind of fits in a little strangely this is definitely the bag play where they're both just trying to get a little bit of cash and I respect it it just feels ever so slightly out of place eventually going into dreams first this one feels a bit phoned in we're using some of the lyrics from earlier in the track and I even felt like his vocal flowing and Rhythm seemed to feel a little unpredictable I felt like this time like I couldn't really follow him also we have a couple more shaky notes getting back to the final chorus which I said is already a little grating and annoying overall it's not the worst song ever if I hear it I'm not going to cover my ears and start screaming or anything I just felt like it was kind of okay but yeah that's all of the songs dream has released up until now there are definitely things that he's doing right and with all the resources he has he definitely should and as for the things that might be quote unquote wrong or not is well done he's definitely gonna work on them for somebody's first five songs you can definitely hear clear improvements and you can hear the direction that he even wants to go as an artist so yeah those are all my thoughts
