g'day welcome back to the channel i'm back at the home studio doing us some editing the weather is about to go really septic on us went out this morning had a bit of a fly but what i want to talk about today is this this the adsb alarm you've seen it all before but it's changed it's different i'll see if i can pull in with my camera here and you can have a closer look at what it's doing now you see on there there is a a radar scope now this was something i mentioned earlier that i thought it would be a really good idea to have this radar scope thing on the adsb alarm but i i said well we don't want to get feature creepy don't want creeping featuritis because it just delays the release of things but on reflection this is just the best way to display the data because it shows you a whole lot of stuff it shows you how far away the craft is or the aircraft is by virtue of these rings these are set to five kilometers that's three mile rings so if it appears on the outside here then you are nine miles away or 15 kilometers away and as it moves closer you can see not only from which direction it's coming this is north north is at the top so you can see which direction it's coming from but whether it's actually approaching or departing and whether it's going to go through where you are near where you are whether it's going to skip the boundary and down the bottom here we have the call signs of any aircraft that are displayed on the on the radar scope so it is a much better way to present the data um than just a whole lot of text which really you have to read it and it's you know you can't see at a glance what's happening this is a far better way to do it so i decided this one occasion on this one occasion i will produce the radar scope version because it really is the the most sensible way to present this data and that's what i've done so we went out the airfield this morning and we had a bit of a play and we were there and it went off started beeping very loudly because an aircraft came this is this is what happened okay the alarm's going off because we've got a plane i'm going to try and get this with this really crappy lcd show you what we can see you can see the little dot there and this is it that's ltv here's the little red dot it should be just out here somewhere see if i can find it oh look there it is here comes the aircraft so there's the ads sp alarm and effect that's how it works folks should be crossing there's a little dot crossing right through the middle there where we are you can see the little dot right over here now there we go that's how it works that's the new radarscope version of the adsb alarm now i had the threshold set to 10 kilometers so that gave us plenty of time to to see the aircraft was coming and then sorry about the lighting and that was pretty crap but we tracked the aircraft flew directly overhead and it showed you flying overhead on the asp alarm and then when it got 10 kilometers away the alarming stopped perfect worked very very well um so that's what i'm doing with the launch version it's going to have the radar scope oh i've just noticed an aircraft has come onto the adsb alumni okay here we are we are in an alarmed state as you can see now in this case here's the call side of the aircraft there is the aircraft sets within five kilometers of the airfield now just trying to get a better shot on this get the zoom sorted because i'm holding everything strange here yep you can see that i'll just cover up that beeper because it's really annoying okay um yeah we've got the aircraft is right up there close to the airfield and there's the call sign down there and everything's gone red because we are in an alarmed state and as the aircraft flies away once it gets outside the second ring which is 10 kilometers then the alarm should stop and the color should go back to yellow so let's just see i'm probably going to do circuits perhaps and maybe here for some time but let's just wait and see what happens aircraft is flying off to the what is it the west of the airfield in fact i'm at home which is to the west of the airfield and i can hear the aircraft coming over my head so let's just watch and see what it does yeah so this way of displaying information is a lot simpler it's a lot easier to see what's going on you can see which way the aircraft is coming from which way it's headed for and the distance at a glance whereas otherwise you have to read through the data that was displayed on the screen not that not that good this aircraft doesn't seem to be going very far away it is now heading down to the south [Music] just flying around the place and it's a very slow aircraft because it's obviously just a light piston-powered training aircraft which we get a quite a few of them around here now it's heading further away try and position the so it's more visible to the camera and if it gets outside that second ring then we should see it turn yellow and the alarm should stop beeping i've covered the beep with my finger because it's too damn loud at the moment here we go should be changing fairly shortly as it gets closer to the 10 kilometer perimeter i've said 10 kilometer perimeter here and there's another aircraft coming to the scene somewhere there no yes what do we got on here at least another aircraft's taken off from the airfield so it only just became visible to the adsb [Music] there we go it's got two aircraft tracking at once one's right at the airfield one's just about to be there we go see it's gone yellow because it's gone past the 10 kilometer perimeter of that aircraft but the other one is the alarm is still beeping as you can hear because there is still an aircraft within the 10 kilometer perimeter and it's red the one in the center is just left the airfield is in red so we go tracking two aircraft at once using the system and you can tell the difference because the colours and it's really really so much simpler this way this is i don't know why i didn't do this in the first place so whoever suggested the radar scope excellent idea thank you for that and there it is in action so there you go simple isn't it and it works yes that's all you could wish for now interestingly enough uh i'm going to do a separate video on this but there have been a spite of media collisions between manned aircraft just another one just yesterday i think it was where two aircraft collided in airfield and two people were injured so manned aircraft are crashing into each other all the time so why on earth why on earth doesn't manned aircraft have what they call tcas which is a collision avoidance system based on adsb now this little unit they're under 100 bucks new zealand so like 50 60 bucks us to build that unit which gives you that warning something's too close why can't we have that aircraft why can't we have that in aircraft manned aircraft where lives would be saved and the reason is certification i'm going to do a video as a sound certification the reason that we don't have these cheapy cheapy bits of electronic equipment in aircraft saving lives every day is because it all has to be certified and that costs a fortune so i'm going to have to do a video for the regulators why aren't you waiving the certification fees in the name of safety yeah by all means get them certified but when people's lives are at stake why put such a price premium on that why not say this is saving lives it shouldn't be a cost burden these things you can build a tcas system for a couple hundred bucks and put it in every manned aircraft that's out there and save lives every year but they don't because a tcas system at the moment costs huge amounts of money huge amounts of money so not in many aircraft adsb costs huge amounts of money so it's not found in every aircraft why it doesn't cost huge amounts of money to make 80 sb gear it costs huge amounts of money to sell adsb gear because it has to be certified in that process is incredibly expensive and also there's big money to be made of course i get very upset when regulators demand that i have an observer when i'm flying fpv and or when i'm you know flying my models even though no one has ever been killed by recreational mighty dr recreational multi-russia drone i get really upset when they come to me and i got an email from a guy yesterday who has fined two thousand dollars here in new zealand for flying without an observer at the fpv seriously two thousand dollars for flying without observing and no one has ever been killed or even badly injured as a result of that sort of thing but every week now almost people are dying because manned aircraft are colliding with each other for the lack of a couple hundred dollars worth of electronics equipment something is seriously wrong with the state of aviation regulation there we go stay tuned now as i say i'm now busy oh there's another one we've got another one you see we've got a busy airfield here we go there's another one flying outside the perimeter let me just pull in again so you can have a look it's quite busy today we haven't had this much air traffic in a long time there we go you can see it's over there and there's the call sign down there so yeah this is great um let me pull back out again so we can he's gone now um obviously when they fly out of range no i'm gonna threat they disappear from the face of the device so yeah um stay tuned as i've got to do a wiki on this or something i'll go to one of the sites and put all the stuff up there source code all the put it together stuff and whatever that's taking longer than i'd hoped because this was the last modification i'm making absolutely the last one and so pretty soon you'll be able to build your own there'll be no excuse not to have one and to be safe unlike some other aspects of aviation there you go folks um thank you for watching now there was something else i was going to say oh yeah i might throw a bit of footage on the end of this because i've got heaps of footage i'm editing up here and no place to put it so i still throw it on the end of this video just for your entertainment and enjoyment thanks for watching guys remember thanks my patreon supporters you make this all possible and no mid-roll ads in my videos because i hate them hate them with a passion thanks for watching bye for now
