I Had a Baby at 47 After Going Through the Menopause | This Morning

you got married in Jamaica in 2003 such as you were 33 at the time and both of you just wanted to start a family in fact I think you came off the pill before you went out there hoping yeah you might be pregnant coming home yeah that was our dream to come back with a baby and it didn't work out like that did it and you tried to naturally conceived and it wasn't working out for you did many tests and you'd qualified for one round of IVF on the NHS yet we got a free go and did that and that was one successful it wasn't too bad at the time because we were quite excited oh it might work yeah that didn't work so we went for another round of IVF and we paid for that one and unfortunately that didn't work then we went to a different fertility place up in London and had all the tests under the Sun including one blood test that cuts cost 900 pounds had to be sent to Chicago that was for a high immune system they thought I had a high end 15,000 pounds all told wasn't it yes yeah you've got the expenses of that which is why you'd have paid anything to have yeah oh yeah have a baby but what was it like for you guys heartbreaking stressful it's not a very nice it's not a nice experience going through IVF really with nearly injecting me and it just wasn't very nice with it nice stressful yeah of course and then you get this heartbreaking news that actually that the quality of your eggs are similar to somebody that would be going through the menopause yeah and that's kind of for you both then no matter how much money you're gonna throw at this situation the chances of you conceiving it just yeah not looking good the fertility the doctor at the time said you might as well forget it IVF isn't gonna work you haven't really got many eggs left so we had to stop and that was our full stop on it and we drew the line in the sand and then I I crashed and burned really distanced yourself from anybody and everybody I did all my friends family were having babies at the time and I love kids but I I felt really heartbreaking and well you thought about surrogacy perhaps and and maybe thinking that adoption might be an option then that wasn't right for you so you actually looked towards fostering yes it was something completely different but it was still with children because we great with kids and we went down that road we got trained up as foster carers it was very very very rewarding and very hard work it it didn't fill the void but it was a different void yeah so we'd moved on and we thought we won't have children but we're gonna be give something yes you see you have parents in another way so 46 now and you're getting symptoms menopausal symptoms you'd already had I think around 40 already had their tests at the doctor's that said you were going through an early menopause and you went and will put on HRT won't you to help with those symptoms all my hot hot flashes and night sweats yeah they were lovely yes yes the HRT patches worked and then you began to feel unwell again yeah and went back for a scan because this is where the c-word was mentioned this is where yes and so so if you're think that the doctor is saying this is actually you have all the signs of a varying cancer I'm going to send you for an emergency scan and expect bad news so I went to the scan Neil was on a home with the foster kids I went on my own the nurse was holding my hand the sonographer said you're Avery's look fine do you want to have a look at this and turned it round and there was Molly oh my gosh Molly's waving in that picture so I mean an actual miracle yeah medically shouldn't happen no I said is that mine was brilliant it was that you were about three and a half months pregnant yes he'd gone through all the scary bit without you ever knowing you transformers Gary things yeah she was in it was meant to be we've done something right along the line and I imagine you rang him straightaway and hello oh it's really me my dream back from the hospital parked up on the driveway and I was smoking and Neal was met me at the front door saying what are you okay are you okay and I said it's it's not cancer I've got a baby and I'll just left him on the front porch 12th of January this year and along comes Molly and we've got her she's with our mornings Phil's got a Molly Molly means miracle miracle also when you get a little older in like a little settled you know you weren't expecting as much as you'd always dreamed of it yes she's supposed to be 14 you must look at her I mean when you do those night feeds and you're there you must just look at and go why did you cut you really weren't mentally we're still in shock and I still look at her in the mirror and cactus myself with her and I'm like we made her all by ourselves age 47 he's 52 you
