hey guys i'm sam crack and today we are headed to a new local salvage auction what i've never been out to before so i'm really excited to check out their inventory and i hear it's really big and they've got a huge variety of stuff not just cars but like anything they can get wrecked they have there so it's always fun to check out other stuff like boats and rvs and jet skis but i want to focus in on one thing in particular and that is budget enthusiast cars things that can be had under 10 grand and well let's say even well under five grand because i think that's a sweet spot currently at white you see the red that means we're at the insurance auto auctions on right off the bat i mean this is insane i couldn't even tell you what this is maybe it's a truck you see how long it is we got a ford center cap in the wheel but one thing i can tell for sure is that the engine yeah definitely appears to be in time okay well that's a good thing you know these don't have those issues that the range rovers have anyway this lot is so big it's about 40 acres that they've hooked me up with my very own ride to get around so huge thanks to them i didn't expect this at all i'm usually walking these lots spend a lot of time here but this will help us get through more inventory efficiently so let's go all right when i see an sl i've got to stop this is either a 500 or 550 i'd assume by the wheels this is one of the most timeless mercedes that you can pick up for a bargain this ranks i would say in my top five of like salvage auction project car bargain something that's going to be 5 000 bucks or less but still offer you a ton of fun a lot of value this is a 500 so this is one of the earlier makes in early 2000s but again just look at how excellent the body looks this one happens to be an awesome overall condition the sort of stuff you see in here that's just like a clear uh wrap that was here to protect it and it's starting to starting to break apart at this point man this was a really well spec car too because check it out the keyless go on the shifter that definitely was an option and the interior is clean no smells run and drive this is something i've got to put on my watch list and these cars are awesome for a number of reasons my favorite part is it's really a gt car right it's a cruiser car but what you can really do with them is enjoy the aspects of a convertible because a hard top convertible or kind of a sports car they do mask the way they feel because of their abc suspension that's one of the big reasons they sell so cheap as well so overall this is an awesome project car one thing i will note it looks like this seat was reskinned but whoever did it somebody paid some good money for this the only difference between this and the factory seat is the perforated leather you could probably source a used seat if you really wanted otherwise i keep this the color match is just fine and again just look at how clean everything is i'm going to take a look under the hood a little bit of dirt that's a good thing big thing on these check the abc fluid if you're ever out looking at one look around the reservoir here make sure it's not oily like it's leaky and right here this is where you fill it right here is where you pull it and check it and look it's full and now it's time to play guest at our car big section of burn cars here some of them completely gone so we got to play a round of guess the burn car super duty f250 sitting next to what we come up we see a fairly small engine uh nothing huge everything is melted maybe a six cylinder three here three over there i see this right here this tells me that maybe it is something japanese i'm thinking honda the wheels are dead giveaway because the wheel center caps and well we have drilled and slotted rotors so those have to be aftermarket come on this side profile i'm still not sure as to what this is missing a center cap come on okay look we've got some paint here and judging by the side profile and the edge of what i just saw on the tail light i'm going to shift my thoughts from honda to nissan and we've got a maxima so uh i get a half point for that because i guess wrong in the beginning now this complete mystery and we've got this halfway burned hood here i'm not going to touch it man i don't even want to begin to guess what this is you can see the inside of the top end it's burned so bad okay again missing center cap two door mustang mustang maybe i'm gonna go mustang on this mustang convertible check it out there's our giveaway mustang okay 4.0 you know what the longer it takes me to figure it out i think the worse i should get on a point scale so this is again like a half a point it took me a while jeep wrangler easy that doesn't count this okay here we go time starts now we have a again a six cylinder engine no idea four-door i'm gonna go again japanese let's see all right i just lost a uh half a point because i still can't figure out what it is i mean this one is really bad i don't know if anybody's going to be able to figure this one out well someone in the comment section okay i know exactly what it is there's a hyundai i couldn't tell you the model but this has got to be a hyundai here we go i'm saying hyundai and it is a chevrolet completely wrong i lose a point for that geez that was a really really bad guess okay chevrolet we cheated on that one ford f150 you can just see by the you can see the the door handle area it looks almost like it does whenever it's perfect and last okay here we go time starts now four-door let me see the engine man well i want to say this is a chevrolet it looks identical the last burned one what is this i'm gonna say chevrolet police car the other one may be same thing looks identical to the other one it's gotta be right well no oh here's the sticker here's the sticker we're saying chevrolet final answer is buick come on half a point for that a buick really is a rebranded chevrolet got a really nice looking spec p85 and it looks to be in really decent shape carbon fiber wing that's an aftermarket add-on i'm pretty sure but these wheels are these the 21 inch wheels i'm pretty sure yeah 21 inch all the windows bashed out is that what it is or the battery is dead and all the windows are down that's the other possibility now look at the front end rich would be able to tell us exactly what's going on here this is where you jump the car see the positive battery post right there there you can put the negative there somewhere else on the frame that i don't know what that is a harness for but one huge feature missing there's no autopilot sensor down there so this is an earlier model tesla model s still looks really nice but what are they saying here oh this is what this is this is a flood vehicle water best guess can only be here that the windows are rolled down probably not smashed out and we're not going to get into that car but this is a rich rebuild special man super clean flood now i would send this listing to rich because it looks so nice but we already know that he's got one flooded tesla model s that he hasn't completed yet we'll let him finish that one and then we'll let him know about this one now look at this motorhome this is unbelievable this had to be a fortune new look at all the storage compartments down below it's like a bus oh there's some some really strange stuff going on here i can't even tell what's wrong and as long as there's no damage on this side we have a little bit of a little bit of plastic but that's probably just because this is pushed out and they're they're trying to seal it up i wonder what the heck is wrong with this oh i think i have an idea see the window there has got some like it's burned yeah i'm not gonna go very far on this one but luckily it looks like um something happened in the back let me see how close we can get oh yeah it's smoky in here something caught on fire back there i'm getting out yeah if you see something like this don't don't bother going inside uh this is unfortunate something uh caught on fire a lot of the times there's a lot of electronics that are going on in here so uh yeah don't know what happened but what a beautiful motorhome destroyed come on be a stick i've never ever driven a c7 and i've always wanted to i know the c8's all the hype this one doesn't look half bad but it's got to be a stick i could even deal with the blown airbags but it's got to be a stick it's a stick let's see now here's the issue with 99 of salvage auction c7s and c6s for that matter of fact um they're all electronic right the door latches are electronic so you can't get in the doors and i actually had this problem when i got my c6 delivered a long time ago the car showed up battery was dead and when the heck do you do with the battery dead um it was a crazy thing so we had to shove a rod down the window here they put like something here to pull it back a little bit and then on the floor there's a manual open but this has a carbon fiber roof stick shift and okay this looks like an undercarriage car so it looks like it rode up over something similar to like what i had and what really sucks is this right here okay so the fender was pushed back damaged our fiberglass here well you might be able to repair this if i were doing it i just try and source a door it is a corvette so there's quite a few of these cars out there then you got a lot of suspension components i like suspension components you want to check sub frames on these cars the other thing i'd want to check this is a base model c7 which is probably good news because when you step up to the z06 zr1 those generally have frames that are not steel anymore usually they're aluminum or magnesium and when it comes to repairing those a lot tougher i'm not sure if they moved over to that on the c7 let me know in the comment section below but this looks rough i like it a lot oh i almost missed this hidden gem right here hellcat charger look it just looks like a white charger from far back until you see that gigantic red brembo brake caliper and what color are these they're like they're like a bronze like a satin bronze that is an incredible incredible color it goes so good with everything that's going on here i love this speck i wonder what color the interior is now this wheel has a little bit of superficial damage i doubt sometimes these are out around sometimes that can be repaired but you got that and you've got kind of the classic front end frame damage this is something that could be repaired the nice thing is it's just a charger underneath uh all the million horsepower that it has so you could buy a part off of a v6 charger frame components off of a v6 charger and you're going to be good and you're not going to pay a ton of money the fender bound up here again classic front end frame stuff let's open things up oh it's got the peanut butter leather awesome colors on this thing carbon fiber sil trim here i've never seen that before that might be aftermarket let's go ahead and pop the hood here oh there it is aftermarket carbon fiber intake here this little sheet that's over the air filter that's like a moisture filter so these are usually water resistant if this were to get submerged it wouldn't suck any water and here is the 707 horsepower supercharged hemi and i always wonder how to tell whether you've got an aftermarket pulley or not when i see an aftermarket intake it makes me you know wonder is this cartoon does it have a pulley does it make like 800 horsepower but this is a classic front end rebuild not too bad we got some suspension stuff in the front there get a closer look at our front end frame here it looks like somebody might have hit at an angle here pushing the entire front frame over to the driver's side you see how clean this look it's looks it's all untouched but that means that our frame rails have likely shifted over this way angling them so you're going to have some front end frame repair on this if we get a closer look inside here this whole entire front radiator support it's cracked but i'm pretty sure it's modular yeah see it bolts in right there you could buy a whole new piece so you got a lot of front end frame components and generally when you have this sort of damage you take out most of the cooling system i don't see any leaks underneath it who knows it could have leaked out at the time of the accident you see that i would definitely replace this condenser and then there's several coolers this looks all neat and intact so you could probably reuse it and the core is behind it again you can always look i'm a big fan of replacing any damaged coolers some of them are going to be proprietary to a hellcat i'm sure and some of them are going to be generic you know dodge coolers that are probably pretty inexpensive you got a missing headlight on this side so a lot to take into consideration when it comes to the front end of this car now let's check the inside for any airbags no airbag deployment at all which is a huge positive although we do have the massive front end it looks like there's a lower diffuser mounted that doesn't look stuck what i want to do considering everything we've seen on this car the interior and exterior i want to reach out to someone who's very familiar with rebuilding the same exact type of car get their take and find out what it might cost to buy and rebuild this hellcat what's up guys it's v tune from the v2 and garage and as many of you guys know i've owned a hellcat in the past i actually bought it from the auction rebuilt it and then i actually ran into a deer hit the whole front end ripped everything off but the cool thing about hellcats are they're really simple in the front so when sam sent me this white hellcat to take a look at i was like man this thing would be pretty easy fix it's a really nice looking car i did notice that the frame rails are pushed over quite a bit but the good thing is it would probably take around 15 to 20 hours to just pull them frame rails back maybe splice them in if you needed to that's actually what i did on the goon squad car and it all turned out pretty easy and pretty quick and also another good thing is all the frame components are the same from a base model charger to a hellcat the only thing that's really different is like the cooling components obviously the engine is different like the hood and the bumper but the radiator support is all the same that stuff is relatively cheap so sam if you get this car you can bring it down here we'll get this thing rebuilt and knocked out pretty quick all right v i'm gonna heavily consider taking you up on your offer there and huge thanks to v tune for his input on the hellcat as someone who's worked alongside him when it comes to frame repairs i can tell you his input is extremely valuable in a situation like this because it can help us determine exactly how much we're going to spend to rebuild a car like this hellcat and he gave us a really key piece of information here about 15 to 20 hours of labor just to fix the frame alone and now when i think of frame fixes i think of him pulling it on the frame machine cutting out and sectioning the rails like he's talked so if there's any additional material say he's going to paint in the rails blend them really nicely you can't even tell they've been repaired well that might end up costing a little bit extra and in my neck of the woods frame repair runs about 50 to 60 dollars an hour now anytime i'm theoretically calculating the cost to rebuild a car i always go worst case scenario so let's take v tunes highest number 20 hours and let's take my highest labor hour 60 it's about 1200 and just frame repair alone now remember we're going to reuse some of the parts off the bumper that comes with the car but we're going to probably have to buy a whole new cooling system it is specific to the hellcat and between buying a bunch of parts if you source some use you might get away between about two and three thousand dollars if you go to the dealership you're gonna be probably closer to about four to five thousand dollars on the really worst case scenario that's you buying all the brackets all the broken pieces of plastic and things like that add that to our frame repairs and then remember you got to put some paint on that front end we're going to have to do the hood the fenders and the front bumper all that's going to run at least if you want a really good job boards about 2 000 to 2500 bucks that's a really decent job this is a base white no metallic so it shouldn't be too hard to paint all in the repair bills on this car sourcing a little bit of outside labor with the frame doing some diy assembling the cooling system and all the bracketry yourself and then getting it professionally painted you could spend anywhere between 6 500 and 10 grand really all depending on who you hire and how much the work you do and then you got to buy the car my opinion is you buy this car for 20 000 bucks and if you get it for 18 or 19 you stole it because if you take your time source the right people and they do a good job you're going to walk away with a hellcat under 30 grand on a technical basis this car has a handful of things going for it number one it's a 2016. it's not much different from a brand new one you'd buy at the dealership but it's a lot older than a 2020 right so that has already taken some depreciation which means it's gonna sell lower than say a 2018-2019 counterpart and it's got over 50 000 miles so not super low mileage considering the nature of the car and that's again going to drive the price a little bit down so it's very realistic you could buy this car sub 20. let me know what you think about my assessment in the comments section below is sub 30 grand a steal of a deal for a hellcat i sure think so all right let's get back to the auction and finish up our walk around did see something while i was checking out the side of this mini cooper and i have no clue what this is this white car right here i just see the hood vents and it says v8 down there so wait before i walk i'm going to guess this is a nissan or infiniti product it's got a beautiful paint job from here i'm going to get closer and show you but i want you to go comment section pause do you know what this is all right here we go this is i still can't tell what it is uh we're gonna have to look at the sticker hyundai that's completely wrong hyundai genesis you know that these cars are being ranked uh in the top of like reliability of all cars unbelievable but somebody somebody or these are stickers i thought somebody cut those in i'm going oh my gosh i can't believe somebody cut those in yeah this car has the autozone special package i don't think they add that at the dealer but the paint is really a beautiful paint it's a white metallic i don't know if you guys can see this but in the sun this is a great color and really these cars again they're they're really highly rated i know little to nothing about them but you could see why people would like them just look at the interior well maybe again maybe you look at the interior of one like on hyundai's website this interior is still very nice it could be a little bit cleaner no big deal something you could clean up but something that's probably not for me and we got that rear quarter damage now right here i'm pretty sure that this car would make for one of the best daily driving cars i'm a huge fan of the 335i shout out to scott every time we talk about the 335 we got to give huge thanks to scott who gave it to us to use for channel content we're not quite done with it yet but this is the new version of that this is a 430 and actually this is what scott swapped his 335 eye out for i'm pretty positive he told me he got a you know 3 30 or 4 30 i'm pretty sure he got a 430 because of course you know he likes a sportier car these are awesome nowadays especially when they have that center shifter but seriously this is i'm going to smell because anytime i see this missing people are trying to get to modules or trying to get the car in gear or whatnot i think flood but doesn't smell like a flood same color seats that we have this is a really nice car and every time i see something newer at the auction like maybe i could just get one more car but seriously this is a really nice car but what is wrong with it we know what's wrong with that um i don't know this is a strange one it is sitting kind of high in the front end and it's an insurance car what is lost water you can't see but this is a flood car that's why all that was missing so guessed right but it hardly smells of it so this this is actually something all right i'm not gonna let's blur this number out i'm gonna put this on the watch list we've got an old ciel mercedes these cars have pretty awesome styling they do look a bit dated now but i can tell you that the amenities on the inside and the build quality specifically of this year look at this this is all solid metal it's all just incredible here's more here here's more here none of this is plastic it's all solid metal and look at this 128 000 miles lights right up smells fine it's a little dirty but that's not a big deal you vacuum that out but what is this a cl 500 is my guess and look who knew this trunk lid is made out of fiberglass that's crazy come on look that's fiberglass that is not aluminum i always thought that these let's see here this is this co might be made of fiberglass i think this is made out of metal you learn something new every single day mercedes cl portions of it are made of fiberglass it didn't stop it from weighing a ton though i think these cars are close to five thousand pounds in the high four thousands oh i have dreams of christmas morning that looks like this just have a bunch of salvaged cars sitting underneath uh some tall florida cypress trees pine tree right there and you don't know what's under there i guarantee you right here that's a lamborghini eras right here that's a bmw 760 12 cylinder brand new light damage right next to it though i mean come on this is this is one of those short tactical hummers like i just know that there's some great stuff under here we gotta start unwrapping we're gonna start with i'm kidding we don't unwrap anything remember salvage auction etiquette anything's wrapped up even if it's just the windows like on the tesla you leave it it's not for me to do but these will be unwrapped another day and we'll come back and see them when they are right now i'm a bit torn i've seen a lot of good cars today a lot that are going to sell again i'm looking for the cheap stuff now i think the cheap stuff you can make really fun but right over there okay we'll go look we'll go look but i'm not gonna get any ideas i see one of these new like sporty range rovers i'm not gonna do it i'm not gonna do it we already are in the middle of a range rover that probably will never get finished at least uh under my supervision but right here what is this a valar it looks so sharp i mean come on they did a good job with it and well it's not big guy like the one that i have but the lines on it yes this is a velar i like the color i like the styling and i like that there's no damage well the handles are popped out which is always kind of suspect the interior is meant 22 000 miles on the clock and i mean just look at how well they did the interiors in these cars hold on we didn't see the front end i'm getting all excited we haven't even looked at the front end something that keeps me coming back to these cars and every time i come back i get in trouble so we've got a decent front end impact here they've removed all the cooling system so you got a really clean view of what's going on and what's going on is we have very very minor frame rail damage right there something that i mean like look you can see it's bent a little bit right here i don't think that's supposed to be like that it was pushed out this is a v-tune special man you go he'll go repair that see how this bracket sits so what v2 would do i'm almost positive e2 i know you're watching go ahead let me know if you would do this he'd go and he'd source this part from the dealer it's probably 1800 because the land rover but this just spot welds into the rail man come on you're telling me that they totaled this car out because of that i mean obviously you got a very expensive cooling system you got headlights that are probably a fortune a front bumper but this is a nice car look it starts and it runs i don't know they put it in the gear the suspension all looks good you know so sometimes they'll list these see this just starts doesn't say run and drive but if it's got something rubbing and you saw that this was touching the tire on the other side they won't even attempt to drive because they don't want to do any more damage this this is a nice find i don't need to do it but this is a nice fine when i saw this set of wheels i had to stop because i had the same or a very similar car the same set of wheels these wheels on a mustang ranging from 2011 to 2014 means that you got a set of brembo calipers now ford has come very far away with sport packages on mustangs but back in the day all you got was the wheel the brembo brakes and if i remember correctly a taller set of gears these are very fun cars they've got that live rear axle which makes them a little bit more playful in the rear end this one we got the fender damage the front end damage it's a good amount of work between the two it always comes down to how much you end up winning the bid on a car like this and what your intentions are on top of the front corner the front end damage we've got rear end we've got this rear quarter so body wise this car's got a lot of work if you're considering rebuilding it and there's just so many of these cars available for sale however lately they've done pretty well and held their value i've seen them with clean titles in the 20s so again you'd want to win this i would say well sub 10 especially seeing that there's an interior blown seat bag blown steering wheel bag that means you've got locked up seat belt here but the spec on this car this really was one of the top trim spec gts back in the day see this seat stripe that was an interior package and it came with that uh different shift knob as well so the spec on this car great the damage not so great you guys let me know what you think about it i'm talking about a set of wheels these things look pretty outrageous on an older 7 series really nasty quarter panel damage here this is really bad everything's pushed in so given the age of this car given what it is it's a parts car off the bat even though the rest of it's really good and you guys let me know but this brand i've heard of it i think it's a pretty popular bmw tuning and accessory company if those are the real deal and they're sought after the whole set might be worth more than the entire car when i see a tuner kit hanging out of the salvage yard that is obviously modified aftermarket wheels this is a really gigantic rear tire is it not it's really wide i gotta ask did they turbo it 350z did they turbo and hold on before we asked did they turbo it it's got a manual transmission it's really hard to see really bright right now before we open this hood what do you think did they turbo it see if we can pop the hood it's stuck we may never know if they turboed this car no look the hood is already popped what am i doing did they turbo it they did not turbo it this looks pretty darn stock except for a red coolant hose and a piece of actual garden hose wow they did not turbo it but they did do some tasteful cooling modifications uh this air box is completely removed and these are sitting at the wrong angle clearly well strange car but they did not turbo it with everything that's been going on it's been a very long time since i've been able to physically step foot on a salvage auction yard and to get out today here at iaa and check out their inventory has been very enjoyable if it was for you guys at home as well be sure to hit that like button now out of everything we looked at i always want to hear from you what would you bid on and when considering well you got to pay for it so out of everything we saw today of course i'm i love the hellcat i mean it's it's the newest most modern car out of pretty much all the other cars we checked out but it's also going to cost substantially more than say that mercedes sl500 that in my opinion is a huge bargain if it were up to me i'd take home well probably the golf cart because that was super convenient again huge thanks for letting me borrow the golf cart but i like the sl500 because it was clearly owned by someone who really cared about their car uh that driver's seat was probably destroyed at one point or it was really worn out so they took it to an upholster and they got it recovered in leather yes it's not perfect but if they did that that tells you that they were up to date on their maintenance again you saw that abc fluid was full so i'm biased and i love mercedes sls in general that would be the car that i'd bid on to win because it's gonna go super cheap and it's a good fixer upper and a car that a lot of people can enjoy again you guys let me know what you liked in the comments section below if you're not
