[Music] all right so i just got back from an exploratory fishing trip and i found a massive brook trout he's got to be pushing 14 inches and i have nicknamed him goliath because he's just unbelievably large this creek itself is just incredible i mean the average size fish has got to be pushing you know eight to ten inches so i'm going to spend the next week or so trying to catch this fish and see what happens all right guys one thing about this creek is that um the access sucks badly like there's no way there's no good way to access it other than to just like fight your way down into this hollow and um the further you get up into the hollow like there's no two ways out once you get up there like you got to walk all the way back out i fished this two three days ago and i first saw goliath it took me probably an hour to get out i didn't even fish that far up into it just because it's so hard i mean you're literally climbing up these hills which i don't know how steep it looks on the gopro but you definitely have to be in shape or at least a little bit of shape to get up in here to begin with well guys it's officially thicker than a snicker uh i'm not even sure if i can get down right here i think i'm just stuck in the brush forever rest in peace i might just lay down here and curl up in a hole so i just have to go down and hope i don't die you know what i'm saying typical adventure don't break a rod aside from falling and breaking a leg breaking the rod is the next worst thing imagine walking down here all the way breaking a rod and up not being able to fish all right so now i've hit a cliff right here i don't know if you guys can see it very well it's really thick but i mean if i jumped right here i'd probably fall 12 14 feet and this is the brush pile that i just kind of came out of right here i climbed down this little steep embankment about to step off this edge and there is no ground definitely not coming back out this way that's for sure all right so that fish was nine and a quarter inches i measured them here in the net before i released them nine and a quarter first fish of the day first cast of the day nine and a quarter inch brookie um i would say the holy grail for brick trout is probably like in that 10 to 12 inch range but to catch a fish like that off rip first hole is just doesn't get any better so i'm gonna keep moving up here i'm gonna actually try to record next time the only reason i didn't record in this hole is because i cast it here when i was here two days ago and didn't catch anything and if you don't know this usually this time of the year brook trout um [Applause] usually this time of the year like when you start moving in the summer for whatever reason the brook trout tend to stay in the same general holes so i'm hoping goliath is in the same hole there's like one or two other big fish up here that i spooked and didn't catch so i'm gonna be really careful when i come up to the hole and hopefully i'll catch a bunch more fish like that for you guys all right guys i was literally stepping up here to fish i saw on like the so this is just the editor's note i'm sure a lot of you guys noticed this fish eating dry flies and the run just above the one i'm fishing in and i was so focused on what i was doing at the time that i didn't see it but i've looked at this footage in slow motion back and forth and this fish is massive i know it's hard for you guys to tell scale because you're you've never been to the creek but i promise you that this fish is over 12 inches easily and i never caught anything out of that hole so i honestly think this is a second goliath anyway just wanted to point that out and get back to the video far side of this current steam over here i saw a brook trout looked like a good one come up and eat a dry it's another thing like when you're fishing always pay attention because you never know what you're gonna run into out here bad cast got him it's a nice fish too real nice fish that's another like eighth 10-incher it's not quite as pretty as the other ones but man it's the one i saw came up and eat he was on the left side but brook trout aren't too particular so i went ahead and cast it to the right side we caught him it's probably eight maybe nine eight or nine chill let me show you off real quick and then you can go bye-bye look at the colors on that one real light colored one but the the pink uh colors on that one pink sorry spots thanks buddy not even taking out the cam big camera for like eight inches anymore that's when you know it's being a good day telling you guys this creek is unreal all right guys i see a fish he's currently feeding i'm gonna catch it right here watch this got him oh it's a nice fish too i was like oh look there's a fish feeding immediately catches it hey buddy relax relax that's another six center let him go quickly there he is guys mega giant see ya broke me that was goliath he broke me [Music] that's 5x tip it guys and the three weight with all the protection in the world oh my gosh i think that seems huge guys i can't believe it broke honest to god i cannot be broke when he didn't even i didn't think he pulled that hard i bet had a weak place in my line or something unbelievable that thing is massive [Music] unfreaking believable well um goliath bested me i don't know i assume it's a native i mean it's possible that it's like some other just like stalker wild trout that somehow ran up into this hole and ran up this creek pretty far and then got into that bigger hole because it's a relatively big hole and a stretch of not too big holes um but i know that i've caught natives all the way up to this point and then all the way after this point there's a chance it's a massive native um so i hooked or i missed him once two days ago so i came in here today and i decided i was going to shoot this video it's probably one of the best native streams i've personally ever fished at this point and i fished like four or five since i've been here and then who knows how many before i moved back up here and he beat me i mean i must have had like a nick in the line from one of the other fish and he just or she snapped me so what i'm going to do is i'm going to try to come by one day after work and i probably won't fish all these holes up to this point i'll probably just try to come straight to this hole and um catch that fish because i just want to know what it is if it's a native i mean it's huge i mean that thing was like 15 inches easy 15 inch fish so yeah i guess as depressing as it is that i it broke me or that i lost it i guess the story of goliath will continue until i eventually best the mountain beast so yeah i'm going to continue up here though because i know there's some bigger fish up in here i spooked one that i was probably pushing 12. uh last time i fished this two days ago that was up here somewhere i'm gonna fish past that it's uh noon right now so i still have like four hours so i might like i might go up a long ways and see if i can't find another goliath because if there's one in here there's probably more you just got to find the right holes in the right cover and stuff like that so let's keep going see what we can do [Music] [Music] [Applause] god so good news is i'm still catching some good fish i literally just caught and released the one that was probably oh he's still sitting here what's up buddy he's probably um nine inches or so ish i got the release on him but i unscrewed my gopro to do an underwater release and unfortunately i don't know where the little screw bolt is that goes back into the chest piece in the gopro so i'm kind of out of a camera for the day so what i'm going to do is i'm going to scout up this creek a little bit and since i'm gonna have to come back in here anyway to try to catch goliath whatever it may be i'll leave this portion of the creek untouched for the most part so that i can we can film i can film another video here when i come back to try to catch goliath so um yeah even up in this little hole right here i i just caught about a ten inch fish nine to ten inch fish so yeah i'm super happy uh it's been an outstanding day it's starting to get cloudy i think there's a storm rolling in which might help but one thing i've noticed that these fish are like being super spooky right now and i think it would help us it would help me tremendously if we got a little bit of rain just a little bit of rain i don't want it to be like muddy or anything but just enough rain so that um this fish don't spook as quickly i think would help me tremendously all right guys mission get the creek is successful um i actually found a new way to access this creek on my way out last time i found a access road so it's a little bit rougher than i thought and yeah we made it i'm gonna start fishing up here so i don't have to fall on my butt to get in here which is awesome makes my life easier i'm gonna grab the streamer rod and the three-way because looks like the cream the stream is higher but it's not muddy which is fine with me i'm probably gonna bring both the streamer and the dry fly and i'm gonna hit some of those holes where i lost fish last time or didn't catch anything last time to sort of complete this little um this little series this little goliath mini miniseries and hopefully catch goliath and hopefully it's a native and it's a mega giant native so let's get going get geared up and get out there [Music] all right so i'm not sure if you guys can see it or not but i cast it in here that fish came up didn't eat my dry so i switched dries cast it back in there and caught the fish i think the driveway is working because he nearly swallowed it i mean i had to do like i had to get my pliers out and actually delicately get the hook out of it luckily it was barbless so it wasn't a big deal but yeah it's a good sign we're going to keep moving up all right guys this hole right here is the hole with the two fish in it that i saw yesterday that were both like ten inch inches eight to ten hopefully with any luck one of these fish will hit and i'll get showed off for you guys [Applause] [Applause] let's go there he is boys beautiful brook trout let me show them off real quick there you go guys that's a 10 inch brook trout i'm gonna let him go so we can bye buddy so oh my gosh i just caught a massive native brook trout he might be i'll have to get the measuring tape on him he might be like 11 12 inches maybe this is 11 and one quarter inch native just measured it um i'm probably not going to get this tape on film but i'm still going to show off the fish sitting like kind of near the measuring tape so you put this down at zero that's the tip of its nose back up there and it goes back this is the straighten it out this is the 11 inch mark the tail i don't know if you can see it but it's back right in here i mean just a big old native right there boys that's a big fish i'm gonna try to get them up here in the slack water right here so i can release them and get a better shot for you guys focus focus focus all right oh [Applause] oh he's gone now unfortunately it's getting dark enough now that getting a good release is nearly impossible especially when i'm trying to release the fish healthy it's just like it just ain't happening so uh that was a tough release sorry about that guys but i will say i had to cast that several times and i had no idea that fish was in there and he was sitting at the edge of this big rock here so it's cool to know like fish like that are sitting in these little pockets and um i think the next hole is going to be the hole with goliath so fingers crossed that goliath is going to be just as willing to eat as all these other big fish are but um that's my biggest fish of the year at 11 and one quarter so i'm hyped i'm happy about that all right so came up to goliath's hole which is right there behind me and i threw my dry fly in there uh you know 10 15 casts which for a native brook trout stream if they didn't hit by then i mean it's probably not going to so anyway i um realized i didn't have my streamer rod so i had to walk back down like a couple hundred yards down the creek to get the streamer rod when i say stream rod it's just a five weight with like a little um it's like a weighted it's like the size of a woolly bugger basically but i think it's like more of a sculpin pattern and i was starting to get concerns like i can't believe i haven't moved the fish you know like maybe last time i was in here i spooked it in the left or something like that so i snuck up here on the left side of the hole and made a few casts with the streamer and about the third or fourth cast um i thought i hit a rock on the bottom and i pulled up and i saw the fish the big brook trout i mean he's huge came out and followed the streamer back into the hole and then turner went back up into the hole so he's still there
