He said it was louder at speed than other cars in the same class. Bummer since it's a highway cruiser. That should be one of the top priorities.

No air suspension option on a car this expensive is also perplexing. Not only for comfort, but for protection against scraping.

Blind spot camera image shows up in the driver's cluster when using the turn signal, ala Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Rear seat passengers look so far away.

Great that they're getting them out the door but ugh, those aesthetics are going to date quickly. Looks a bit like a tricked-out VW Jetta to me.

I don't know why anyone would buy this over a MS or EQS.

Edit: and why didn't they lead with the Gravity SUV. The luxury EV sedan segment is getting crowded.

hello and welcome back to another out of spec reviews video welcome to arizona and welcome to the lucid air you guys are going to join me for the first time we get to go for a ride in the lucid air dream edition performance we got the maxed out one for our first experience can't wait to hop in and go for a ride one quick clarification i wanted to bring in because uh i was so excited yesterday driving the car i'm editing the video to go live right now is i had already been in the lucid air i kept saying ride in it for the first time what i meant to say was drive it for the first time i rode in a lucid air grand touring in florida about three months ago at the amelia island concord elegance if you go to inside evie's us channel that video will be over there and so what i mean is in this video it's my first time to drive the lucid air and wow what a cool experience this was can't wait to share this video with you guys just for reference this is the lucid air dream edition this is a limited production model we are also going to be driving in the dream edition p which is for performance so about 490 480 miles range something like this you can get a performance uh range that will have 520 miles of range and yeah crazy acceleration we're going to experience 1 111 horsepower at full uh battery pack charge ours the car is about 50 state of charge right now and so we are going to be of course limited on the max power this isn't the exact car we're going to be in we're going to be in a brown one and i'm looking forward to getting it out on the road and seeing how it drives so join me inside with a couple of my friends as we go for a ride in the lucid air for the first time you join me inside of the lucid air now we are in the dream edition performance performance which is the 1111 horsepower at least it would be if it was fully charged we're about 50 state of charge so we're gonna see how fast it is of course we'll try that i'm joined by my two friends ricky and tom in the back and my new friend david up front here david works for lucid and is properly carsick after driving with tom i'm sure at least i am just joking uh so we had an absolute blast right now uh just in terms of the way we have the car set up is we have it in a few different driving modes the first is smooth so smooth suspension smoothest power curve we have the uh regen set to full yes which is off throttle only regen no brake pedal blending and then we have hold mode on what i'm curious to find out though is how the low speed tuning of the motors are so i'm just going to inch up and down this road it's going to feel kind of weird just for a half a second so i lift off the throttle it pulls us all the way down to zero miles per hour and it holds us there that was so smooth now we're talking if i tip into the throttle lightly do we feel some motor cogging releases the brakes very nicely and so smooth when i went for a ride in the lucid a few months ago i mentioned uh that we had a little bit of motor cogging at low speed here it feels really great um it does let the car roll though we're on a little bit of a downhill when i lift off it does eventually grab the friction brakes but we're coasting now it grabs friction brakes very nicely tuned i'd actually like to see that time decreased a little bit to bring us to a full stop sooner but that's nice uh air conditioning fan is going to be loud for this particular portion it has to do some extra cooling because it's freaking hot outside here in arizona do we know what the temperature is it is 91 degrees nice and yeah one pedal driving doing a really good job pulling us down to a stop here interesting the turn signal noise is this very odd electronic signature and with the turn signals we get a visual representation in the screen as to what's happening on the side of the car you guys have seen us test hyundai kia products before specifically ev6 recently it does a very similar thing although i have to say i think this looks a little bit nicer uh 209 miles 208 miles of projected range right now with the battery sitting just left of 50 that's impressive do we know if that's a guess oh meter or if that's a rated range calculation it's a rated range rated range calc so similar to the way tesla does it which is um you know i would tend to keep the cars in percentage mode since i drive a little bit quicker than most but those who drive normally should be able to uh achieve that rated range at least we'll do some testing later on of course steering's nice and light heading east towards tucson so a left up here yes we can do that david's gonna be giving me directions so we don't get lost out in the wilderness with a uh not yet released lucid air we're gonna do some gentle accelerations up what i'm really curious to find out now is suspension tuning nvh and overall ride comfort you know this is not certainly it's crazy fast and everything like that but is how is it going to be in everyday driving so i have to say steering weights up nicely but it's nice and light steering wheel itself is a very thick rim okay and we're going to go west towards san diego cool and you know very partial throttle here consistent power output shows good motor calibration that it's not decreasing or increasing with speed it also shows that the acceleration target is done at a g rate not necessarily a constant power output this is the way to do throttle pedal tuning for an ev um since there's no one behind us let's test a little bit of the regen so i have the power gauge trying to get it in the coasting position nearest makes no difference i'm gonna lift off huge amount of regen of course brake lights are on at this point and it felt really nice and firm uh good regen of course we're in the smooth throttle pedal setting so when i hit my foot down on the accelerator pedal it blends in very nicely and it sort of gives you i would say a cushy cloud-like driving experience uh david would you mind turning us up into swift mode and where would you recommend we used swift move is this more for back road blasts uh this is a really nice blend of handling and ride comfort it's going to be great on those canyon roads it's going to be great if you just enjoy more of a spirited drive okay very cool i can instantly feel it sharpened itself up there um so throttle itself you know when i mentioned it felt like a cloud before i'm gonna tip into it now yeah a little bit sharper for sure and uh you know definitely nice control throttle to regen you don't hear the motor rocking on its motor mounts doing throttle region i don't want to get you guys sick but that shows really nice motor bushings because of course it's so much torque output and regen um if you don't mind i'm gonna try some of the driver assistance functions and so i hit the left button to engage the system the center will be our following distance yep and that's this button on that side so this one this one here this one to engage this oh i see in this little scroll wheel so i have it set at 74. now i have it locked in at 75 which is the speed limit it gives me an indication to pay attention to the road i have one two three four different levels of following distance which is great and the display is really cool so i have a pay attention as soon as i look away and look down at the screen it knows apparently uh which is really interesting says keep hands on the wheel i just want to test since no one's around how it's going to get my attention if i don't touch their wheels so fully paying attention ready for any particular scenario but i looked ahead so uh ricky would you mind watching the front of the road for me and tell me if we're about to hit something this is really dangerous i don't recommend you doing this outside of a tested scenario do we have any indications to watch the road at this point no maybe i should look down look up look down we can always do this testing later on doesn't matter what matters most is how the car drives on the system and i have to say extremely competent lane centering no ping-ponging between the lanes i think in terms of noise levels on the highway i just got out of some very nice other premium cars that compete with this car and yeah it's a bit louder i have to say on the highway so it just shut off lane centering it said pay attention the road now it locked itself back on that was quite interesting but lane departure warning kicked in there and pushed us back in so that was nice but yeah i think my only complaint at least so far is just the nvh on the highway is a little bit louder than i was expecting for the car it's not the impact noises it's more the cavity noise within the inside the tire and that could of course change to final production we'll have to wait and see for final judgment this is still an early car and how long would you say we're back on this highway for uh we should have another two miles another two miles cool so what i'm gonna do is turn off driver assistance at this point so i've disengaged all driver assistance throttle pedal mapping is pretty interesting when that happens and if you're okay i'd like to try a little bit of acceleration in the middle swift mode let's go for it we will do it so let's uh not see it we'll use this guy as our gauge he'll be freaked out that's okay foot down so that's a big number we don't need to share what it is of course allegedly uh and extremely smooth acceleration at high speed i think something i experienced when i was able to go for a ride months ago at amelia island with the lucid was the crazy performance after 50 miles per hour in this car which is truly insane and we're not even in the sprint functionality now the dream edition that we're in has two different versions you have a dream r for range which gets 520 miles of range is it you got it okay and then you have the dream p which is the power but you lose a little bit of the range because you get the big wheels uh and maybe some other things and what is the range of this particular car 471 miles 471 miles which is still a ton of epa rated range so we'll be exiting here and we have the car in swift mode so if you don't mind i'm gonna do a little bit of a braking test since no one's behind us when we get off is everyone okay all right you guys really hold on because i'm gonna stay on the brake pedal great abs calibration through the pedal so i could feel it kick on obviously strong braking performance it's a heavy car it's a hot day we're going to have good grip but i thought that the abs calibration kicked on soon kept the tires at threshold braking you could hear him screaming it's exactly what you want about 10 slower rotation than the car's movement speed i have to say really impressed with that pedal firmed up really quickly as well so now moving on to the right david since it's a pretty empty road would you mind if we do a little bit of a sprint start let's go for it cool so we have it in full crazy mode just going to make sure no one's around a little bit of downhill don't use anything here for 060 calculations is there a launch functionality on this car okay so we'll just smack it down full throttle and go hard 50 miles an hour really ramps up and just pulls harder and harder the faster you go pretty insane uh i have to say the the launch is not as violent without the full uh crazy launch mode which i believe will be coming for final production um but once you get this thing off off the ground then does it really motor that's impressive in terms of steering calibration and sprint mode hard to tell on a straight line i have to say the car is pretty soft it's meant to be no air suspension on this particular car coils all around active dampers depending on the mode that you're in though uh and those are just electronically controlled dampers as you would expect um hopefully you guys are okay i'm just gonna do a little bit of a slalom here we won't make too much of a scene i don't think any cars with blue lights are around holding on okay do it all right so yeah so you can feel the initial weight transfer is controlled really nicely for being so compliant on the road i have to say it really does firm up once the weight moves over that felt great steering felt precise and you know it's hard to get an impression on a straight road like this of how the car is going to handle on a back road of course we'll test this when we get it back to colorado and shred it up the canyons and everything but again that's not really the main point of this car the real point of this car is to drive it in smooth mode how i would drive it every day kick back relax try one of the two massage settings air conditioning seat cranking away doing a great job and just chilling how are you guys doing in the back by the way it's comfortable back here i wanted to ask you about how do you feel about the seat uh the front seat yeah uh yeah no problems at all you know it's not meant to be a performance seat doesn't hold you in i think it's quite firm on the bottom and uh overall there's a lot of room to move around if you're a larger person you're going to fit great in here i think and but you have a ton of leg room back there yeah it's got great space back here i'm not too tall but we still have a ton of of uh seriously a ton compared to tycon especially i mean it's just a whole new game and the back of the speaker does slope down fairly aggressively and they still manage to get a good amount of headroom up here very nice and ricky your impressions of the car overall obviously you haven't driven it but i'm curious what you think as a rear seat passenger what the hell is it the first thing that jumps at you is the leg room the leg room this feels like like s-class kind of levels of you know like at least you're getting an e-s kind of a range yeah leg room absolutely um super comfortable the seat's back here and it's not like david has his knees in the dash either you've got plenty of room up here too yeah it looks like he's yeah he's got yeah so really really comfortable seats all around cool levels of tech the sun shades are really clever on a hot day like this i like the surfaces too yeah it's got the uh sun automatic sunscreens that come up in the rear windows windows yeah auto sunscreens all around so here are my initial impressions three things i love about the car obviously the acceleration is insane and again we're only at about 50 state of charge with a higher state of charge of course the car is going to pull harder i really thought the driver assistance systems were tuned wonderfully well and it's going to be great for a long trip all around and i also think just the the low speed motor calibration really shows me the work that they've done over the last month and a half two months maybe even three months since i last drove this car to really fine tune in the low speeds and left turn here and then i would say some of the things i would like to see some improvements on are noise vibration and harshness i think it's a little bit noisy on the highway compared to rivals i don't like the steering wheel in particular i don't like the rim it's a very thick rim it's a very luxury car oriented right or left side here left side here great and um yeah so steering wheel i think could be i would prefer to see a thinner wheel i think it would give it a more uh luxurious car feel this is a little bit padded i think you lose some of the the real feedback in from the road and then lastly i think the car is pretty soft of course a lot of people will do the straight line acceleration thing it's perfect for that very comfortable for long trips but i think when you really start turning it up on a back road we haven't really felt the the rotation point of the car how it's really set up on a on limit handling perspective but i would say it's definitely geared a lot more towards road trips comfortable daily driving in an urban environment but without having sort of your air suspension and your riding on a a spring setup i think it you do lose a little bit of this uh juxtaposition between a comfortable car and then a on track or highway cruiser or sorry an on track or a highway cruiser so overall super impressive car from a technological standpoint huge range great efficiency um and then you know i just think it's for the target audience of this car blowing away everyone lucid's coming in hot i've really enjoyed driving the car david thank you so much for taking us on this tour today my pleasure really really thank you for all of your knowledge and helping us get around without getting lost of course and uh yeah thanks to lucid for inviting us out to arizona to drive this thing we'll see you guys in the next video thanks guys in the back appreciate it bye you
