when this Bentley arrived on the back of a transport truck it front suspension was lifted as high as it goes and the rear was slammed to the ground which is strange because its auction photos showed something a bit different this Benta retail for nearly $200,000 new and I just bought it totally ases for a fraction of that price from a leasing company where it was listed with an inoperable air suspension luxury cars are commonly equipped with air ride as it's super plush comfortable and customized ible but with these systems comes a lot of extra complication that is notoriously expensive when it comes time to fix since this Bentley isn't really that old and the auction photo showed it sitting super low I figured it just popped an air shock or two after running over something but when it showed up basically squatted I was really confused I mean if it's sitting like this well something is still pumping air and something is still holding that air so I started thinking about all the different modules controllers and sensors NE necessary to run an air suspension this sparked a flashback of the last Bentley we bought and all the electrical problems that came along with it what a piece of junk this thing is that's unfortunate hold on stay there I'm going to pull this nothing nothing what is wrong with this what's wrong with it it's a piece of junk Sam it was infuriating and I swear i' never do this again but when the deal is this good you buy now and think later not to mention this car has much more modern technology so I'm hoping our experience will be less like standing in line at a post office and more like using stamps.com which is the new school way to ship whether you're running a small business or your name is Paul ismus stamps.com has the tools and Technology postage to get you started and a free 4-we trial but you got to use my link it's all over at stamps.com samrack oh my God here's a here's a bump test here we go this is there's definitely a fault with the suspension oh oh that's a big one right there okay okay just a few more miles to the farm and now the suspension is all the way on the ground and before I get under the car I'm just going to shut off the air suspension as it can self adjust and move around while I'm working on it and I only know about this from dealing with a few other Audi's which is basically all this Bentley is in this case there's a quick setting that just turns it off with one tap now because the front is hanging so low I still had to use a lowprofile jack on the side of the car to get it high enough to slide a few ramps under the front and when I was looking around there was something instantly obvious you can see these two little hanging rods they almost look like sway bar end links but they're not they're level sensors and the way they work is simple this link should be connected to a control arm and the upper part of it is on a lever and as you move about the road it sends data to different computers so that the car knows how to control certain systems like your adaptive headlights but they're obviously also used for your air suspension the information from this sensor is used to inflate or deflate the suspension in order to keep it level when I got closer to these sensors you could clearly see the problem the stud that extends out of the sensor and fastens to the control arm is completely broken off on both front Corners if we just had one broken sensor I probably wouldn't spend any time thinking about this but fact that we have both front sensors broken in the same exact place in the same exact way I can't play through very many scenarios where this could actually happen I mean if you look at the bottom of the control alarms they're a little bit scuffed up but like nothing out of the ordinary the only thing I can come up with is that this was a man-made issue like uh if a Repo Man was coming to get the car and somebody wanted to make it really difficult for them to get they could break these front sensors and you see it slams the car to the ground and there's a lot of toe companies that don't want to take the liability of damaging an exotic car an expensive car like this Bentley and they just won't go get it but uh I didn't get any repossession paperwork with this car I don't have any reason to believe it was repossessed let me hear from you guys down in the comments how do you think this happened so just to test this out I've got a zip tie holding that in the place it should be now any sudden jar movement that will pop out of place but I just want to kind of get it off the ramps turn the air suspension back on and see if a zip tie either side will cause our suspension to air up and then listen for any air leaks and see if we have a blown shock all right so both level sensor arms are tied up nice and tight they're no no longer hanging you can still see it is in its slam position in the front this is going to be interesting if we could fix this with a couple zip ties obviously not our permanent fix but we'll go ahead start the engine before we reenable the air suspension I will go and put this in Reverse just just going to pull it off the ramps very slowly here all right park now we'll check one more time off the ramps still slammed settings servicing air suspension all right here we go let's get out look at that look at that before I could even get out of the car passenger side is sitting normal look at this rear end looks a little high I think it might need a little drive to even itself out we'll take it really slow just around the property here all right we're going to take things really slow but I also want to take him Offroad because I want to move the suspension around as much as possible got the windows open I'm basically listening for like an air compressor noise now this is a bent Le so they might muffle it really good but anytime I've ever dealt with a leaky air shock one of the symptoms is that you'll hear a compressor running like all the time trying to just send air to that shock uh the other thing is is usually it's pretty noticeable you you'll hear like a clunker it will just ride kind of poorly so it's riding better than the first time I drove it let's see here let's check out the level wow that actually looks like really good looks like the front came up just a hair and it's sitting like perfect now this is just like so cool when this car came out I had no idea I'd ever want to buy one but when I saw the deal on this one I couldn't pass it up this is one of the newer cars maybe even the newest car I've bought and it's a Bentley let's take this on a more extended test drive on the road it seems hard to believe that cars like this are dumped at the auction when in our case all we need is a really easy and what should be a pretty cheap fix uh but you know this was sold by a leasing company and I would imagine a leasing company makes a lot of their money up front when they sign the lease and probably during the term of that lease and when someone returns this car in the condition that we got it in they probably pay for any of the damages so the leasing compan is really not the one out the money and they're not in the business of refurbishing and flipping used cars so they just send these things by the hundreds to the auction where they get sold thought for sure we'd be buying a couple new Bentley air shocks for this car but that's the gamble we took and it really paid off I remember a while back my dad had a Lexus with an air suspension and one shock started to leak he took it to the dealership they quoted him $3500 to place two because they do it in pairs that was a long time ago so imagine on Alexus if it was $3,500 for two what it would have been on this car for two at a dealer either way it feels awesome it drives really solid but I did notice one other issue hopefully it's a little issue that's that it's blowing warm air I have the AC button switched on I have the temperature all the way down and just what's coming out of the vents is warm so we'll check that out in a bit right now I'm just going to call the local Audi dealership see if they sell just these studs if they do we'll be able to fix this problem permanently and I imagine for next to nothing oh no there's a speed bump coming up here and we're still just held together with zip ties I'm going to go over this real slow let's see if it holds up I think it should this isn't that high of a speed bump and you got to love these luxury car air suspensions they just kind of float over everything and I think we we made it I think we're all right so I just got off the phone with the dealership and of course they won't just sell you the stud they want to sell you the entire sensor assembly Audi wants over 300 bucks for one of these things for fun I went to a Bentley part site and uh they had them listed for 250 so a little bit better but of course way too much for what we need fixed here uh and since this part was so commonly used for the last several years and so many Audi there are a ton of Parts Breakers that have these things used online anywhere between 30 80 bucks a piece but it's still too much for two studs so I went ahead and called FCP Euro and asked around over there and they led me to TGK Motorsports which is a company that has a lot of aftermarket solutions for Audi air suspensions things like lowering links or controllers to make your factory air suspension work a little bit more like an aftermarket air suspension and Tyler over there told me that he had a handful of these these things just lying around from cars that he's worked on in the past he was happy to send me a couple so we got two of these studs totally for free and they installed really easy you just have to be careful when you press them in place again you're dealing with a lot of plastic here so you don't want to bend or snap anything but just keeping everything taught and pressing everything in place with a big Jaws plier got everything done in five or six minutes now moving over to the air conditioning side of things the hookup for a set of gauges is under the windshield cowl right here so I set everything up and started the car and you can see the needles on both sides move while they look to be in different spots if you focus on the actual numbers they're nearly identical both the high and the low side are reading around 60 now I really don't know the technical side of haa systems very well but from the limited amount that I do know when you have identical numbers like this basically it means you got a dead compressor which is strange for a car that's only a few years old I did some looking around around online and found a Porsche form where others had failed compressors on their relatively new cayen which is again another variant of this same car so well it's another job at least it's good to know we're not the only ones we use this vacuum to capture all the refrigerant out of the system before we started any disassembly then we po the Bentley up on the lift and right under it Splash Shield you can see right here the AC compressor well everything in this engine bay is a bit tight this looked like one of the simpler things to get to but after taking out just a couple bolts it wasn't moving at all so instead of guessing where all these Fasteners are that are holding in the uh compressor I went and just bought a uh workshop manual here so this is basically what a tech would use at a dealership to figure out how to do pretty much any job this is the HVAC section and right here one of the first things it says air conditioning compressor to remove and fit and it's one of the first pages in this manual so I pulled this up right here air conditioning compressor to remove and fit and I just started pulling up the diagram so right there it shows the belt and the tensioner holding in place we actually were able to get the belt off with a little issue and then we go down and here's where things start to get a bit tricky you see that green diagram here that's a pipe that's in front of one of the Fasteners you need to get to and this pipe is basically right up against where the whole entire radiator support is so I'm like okay I started reading remove the fixings from the charge air cooler that's the pipe and then it it says remove the fixings the fixings are all the Fasteners and so I'm like reading remove remove like you can get to it you can see here is the top of the compressor but like clearly there's no access to all that so I started over again because you know I tend to just start running through things a second I see them and I start reading line by line and right here the first thing it's says is to remove the air conditioning compressor the frontend module will need removing and when we finally get to this section it explains everything that's in the front end module all you got to get out of the way is the radiator condenser the ATF cooler the bumper beam the charge air coolers and all of the sealing Elements which would be like the ducts that lead to all those coolers and then it starts showing you the tools necessary for the job including an engine hoist and an engine support bar so we've gone through multiple Pages just in this section and we haven't even hit step one on how to remove all this stuff from the front end of the car but it continues on to say make sure you remove both front Wings in order to get the front end module off wings I think are European for fenders and uh It also says while the fenders are off you're going to have to take all the wheel Arch liners the wheels themselves and well anything in the way out so I think we found the real reason why this car was so cheap it had little to do with that air suspension fault much more to do with the fact that we've got a black on black Bentley now in Florida and uh well we need that air conditioning so make sure you're followed Along by hitting that button down below so when I release the next video on this Bentley you're the first to find out also if you're not already following me on Instagram where I post updates to the project cards before anything goes live here well you can find me here just hit that link down in the description guys I can't thank each and every one of you and for watching today and I'll catch you very [Music] soon
