[Music] hello ladies gentlemen and as always thank you for watching has a lot of viewers asked to see the our Western star Vulcan v70 axe and since I don't normally operate it talent or one of the other guys normally does we've got a job fairly close to the shop that I could come down and help Talyn get a hook-up on so I thought I'd take a short video it won't be a full video like it normally would if I were operating the truck but we're going to get it hooked up and you might hopefully be able to see the v70 in action for a little bit all right you just gonna stay in here bud all right a gift oh these before they want button okay well they're not easy I've never had one like this I can't figure out how to get keep it from flying back well you can see where someone's towed it before and they haven't kept it from sliding forward backwards you have to use the full hooks as change our anchor points and also the bumper yes it but I couldn't figure out how to get it and still on the slide you don't want to use the bumpers I mean no don't want to fork them offer and materials to thin on it and the IRS and lock mechanism they've got there you can't grab hold of higher rails yeah I wanted to grab the frame right there but the handle gets this one yes what about Utah Forks I thought I did but the handle other side over there okay what what about the risers is the risers and then the top points yeah let's try that yep oh yeah there's always a way always the way risers not here I'm not used to this drug other one on the other side both no risers are okay a little bit a little bit or you couldn't have called that any customer you dartie up on blocks the talon was here earlier we got called away for an emergency job so we had to come back it does happen from time to time but since this one was in a parking lot sir hey Talon down if the handles are an issue when may take the riser mass take the risers and turn them around Oh we'll see get get tall Forks and we'll go from there the idea is you want to get a get your hookup point as far forward as possible to get your best mechanical advantage kind of like a wheelbarrow longer the handle to left you have less your Houseman having to lift sorry now that oh that's your okay at your medium at your medium no this is a medium height pork that's all you can get this truck doesn't have tall Forks the truck should have talked for anything well so here's your wide which is what you need my gosh I don't see you Tom Horner he got the he got the tall's in the slide and there's the medium in the wide well let's see what can you even get in there what can you get underneath it with the what's feet let's see what we can do with those first if we have to go with the tall wives we can but pivot men Vulcans a little bit different than the centuries the centuries have a detent ball that holds the tea head in the center position the Vulcan doesn't it's free-floating and it has a pin that locks it into position you've got to remember to pull that pin or else they won't pivot like it's supposed to which is not a good thing oh look all right now go forward or out I'm sorry well okay go up there yeah okay now I meant you got yours turned which way nope hold on I'm hitting the tip I might turn around I think we're going to go with things tall's all right you can go up and I'm like scoot it in as we go up had the tapered side headed down towards you me no I'm sorry towards me yeah your your side tapered side towards me and then we'll have to push it in as you go up a little bit alright go up okay I've got it here as long as we clear the cleared handles okay are you good on your side what about if it's slide I know but is it going to run into your lock mechanism pivot slide take it as far forward as you can to begin with go ahead you're not you're not pulling it over here okay all right you're good yep take it up here right up against the lock mechanism but as you tilt it up it's going to carry away from them there you go you got it just like anything else up here go over the top of your frame rail there and then you tag in through your chain hook on your ride that'll hold it into the cradle you're not going to slide side to side because you're you're doing a frame take then you can take your breakaway come in underneath here until your tow hooks or wrap it around the frame either way needs a little bit of reorganization all right oh you get break cakes okay all right now the thing about the Vulcan you can have the head pulled all the way in and still allows it to pivot with the centuries you cannot do that nope don't like it they could fall out now fingers all right what I did down I went behind the tow hook so that is pulling on the tow hook as well yep there turn around the other way so that the tip is pointing backwards that way if it should happen to break loose it's calling into the throw to the foot there you go just like that and logorrhea little bit all right there do you by far even though I will be escorting Talyn back still hook up the light bar just because it's a liability if we don't have it on and I think I want to try to find a little bit higher okay come on you let's take that lose a bit little higher higher higher yep organ on it not there yet we're going on there yo I like that better oh there we go black bar ready all right Shafi out go ahead little circles maybe oh my hat they know we're not under the heat warnings anymore it's still hot what Alan's doing now is just tying the steering wheel with the seatbelt to help keep the wheels from turning out in tow there's a lot of times they'll want to turn out on you and you'll be over with I don't have my tools with me not in rollback I just came down to help okay you got your polar tools ah yep what talents talking about this is one of the worst guys Shasta trad pull it's the old bull what we call full circle shaft with the drive in u-joint caps they can be a real pain in the butt to try to remove sometimes these are better to try to tow from the rear rather than have to pull the shaft or you can pull the axle shafts which I personally don't recommend but I don't love people do it you maybe you'll get lucky Venegas ah Oh they don't have the locks on no lock pads okay then they're locked I did no tab okay some of the older ones had tabs that would fold over the flat ears on the bolts to keep the bolts from turning out and you'd have to take a screwdriver or a chisel or something to pry the private tabs loose before you can turn the bolt the newer ones I just put Loctite on the bolts hopefully the cats come out as easy as the folks did that's rare or they get their thing tight whole tour I got the block okay I works we may have to go old-school with it well maybe the first time and make puller tools for this type of the u-joint driveshaft i've got again the rotator I keep one with me this truck used to have one in it not sure where it went so without a pillar tool we may have to go hold school if we do we'll show you what what we got to do there both hammer at ain't much of a hammer nope that's not words that ain't that ain't a big enough hammer too high talent get hammer will inside joke and talons already got the spring breaks caged if you can see where I'm pointing up there you've seen me put them in before the bolts that caged the spring that holds the brakes and that spring actually was perfect I'm sorry the bolt retracts that spring and releases the parking brakes manually since this is a spring ride truck does not have air ride simpler to do that one block yah all right I can get over here out the way still going to have to have your hammer yep I'm clear yep broke I'm here in activate there you go a little bit more damn pretty close you'll have to lift it up a little higher maybe I think I think I think then you have to go back out with it because it rolls the driveshaft when it pulls it to you and going up there you go now what we're doing or what talent is doing is putting blocks under the driveshaft and then we'll use the weight of the truck we'll lift the truck up and set it back down set the driveshaft on the blocks and put some pressure on it and then tap on the yoke to knock the Catholics going to have to go I have to have a different combination or turn that top block flat see if that works maybe you're at an angle your that bottom block is cut at an angle nope don't like that at all use that as your top block and turn it flat use your other one as port yeah lay down flat there you go you know the block don't like having to do them this way but sometimes this is what you do should have all kind of blocks still left in there from that job over in Paducah digger his yep I have some short small one right that we can do right all right someone has removed him or left and sitting somewhere all right now you got a good base will that other one fit there and you're gonna have to go higher to get it up all the way against the front Oh ready for my time yep then you guys turn your turn your other block differently there you go that's still ain't enough about turning one of the short blocks up on end they're like that are you do what oh shoot everything's too short at an angle well here turn your angle towards the yoke there you go okay there you go still could use a another two by see if ya and watch yourself Eminem now remember it's going to the shafts going to roll as you push it down so you're going to come in and there you go down a little bit any end down and in and guilt and watch rid you got plenty of room up here you still you're still eight inches off the ground there you go now take her down there she popped and that's pushing her right on out go ahead go ahead keep going down keep going down there she goes now I'll lift her up and I bet you'll come right out for that now yep probably pull the cap right out work smarter not harder it does appear that way all right cap come out now there you go cap came right out here you go I got it now to add it all right cord do what to pick up this piece of junk yeah just finishing getting the driveshaft out get the breath in style cap so they can be a pain sometimes where you move it oh he's got a remote control under there hey freak yeah yeah is that insane nobody in that dress now roulette the keys in it okay all right thanks sir thank you I guess you've seen the clutches all headed floor we had we've been having problems with it push it almost all the way through floor to get it started today was our first day back that pushes over here Freightliner is probably got a hydraulic clutch doesn't it don't give me line I imagine it does probably the slave cylinder would be my gas either that or and then batteries is almost dead just foreign air okay just back right then push click it three or four times I push it again that lets come back that one and I get I'd like it call you get a fix it again having problems with that clutch anyway yeah like what you know about my have it done no sir I don't we'll get it in there and then turn it over to Bob Talon and I handle getting them into the shop and then Bob handles getting them out of shop Talk being dragged here guy yep yep that's Bob no where it is absolutely mechanic guy over here in the traffic give us they called it he called the back bucks if you got here watch yourself down you get teeth right underneath right above you those teeth yeah we got called away on an emergency Stalin was here earlier and Talyn was here earlier he had it up on can pull it loose you ought to be able to knock it out with a hammer the rest way still need to come loose some more you got it sweet old school method but you've already got it figured out what's wrong with it right well I got an idea he is posed but we don't work all that well now I work on them too but I work on we work on different stuff on our side of the shop we work on a lot of emergency service vehicles fire trucks ambulances police cars school buses then getting the work was really hard to start because when you push to put you together it is what start I'm wondering if this sentence the freight liner if it's got a hydraulic clutch if it does I got a pretty good idea what's going on with this morning when we push it down in there they just stayed wouldn't come back okay get low see you over yeah probably the my guess is going to be the slave cylinder probably blew out on it I could be wrong but if that's what it is about how long you don't know yeah that that be Bob and whether freight liners got one or not if that's what's wrong with it I can't guarantee that I know it's been been acting out to class president lat where we work every other week so about the last month it's been getting worried sometimes it takes you have to hit a clutch you might have to take my daughter try to do it really some 10 or 15 times before to start now if we get down from under there I can pop the hood open I can tell you pretty quick that's gonna I look what's hard I just think that I think just I sound I'm coming under the front yeah it's a hydraulic clutch [Music] hydraulic clutch hopefully something just as simple as blades owner rather than average change the clutch itself no their batteries they came they that problem answer okay fail once you get it started about there's a special apparel that you have to wear required by the fr a federal railway administration be able to work on or near the rail of railroads high vis hardhat steel-toed shoes electrical conductive all that stuff of course we wear all of that apparel since we work on end near the railroad tracks quite often but anytime a trains rolling they don't want anybody near the tracks there could be something on the tracks that loose and will spit it out they almost fit in there all right good boy jump for it I'm used to operating I'm not used to standing back and watching man that's a good yep double-check everything I'll fall in behind you you got shaft tied up good bricks cage light song throw that way after town you're driving you go whichever way you want yeah ah all right
